Coming from playing frisbee and football on the sand, a big waffle cone of ice cream sounded beyond amazing. As cheesy as this sounds, I like their sign/ logo. It's simple and reminds me of something I'd see in the 1950's. That lured me in , rather than going to the big food stand where they serve everything else. At Coney's Cones, the focus is on the sweets. The first and only strike against them came right when I walked into the establishment. I was browsing the menu, taking it all in, when the cashier was really pushy about asking for my order. If I'm going to spend $5 + on an ice cream cone, I would like to take my time deciding what I want. This has happened to me before and I've completely regretted the end choice I was rushed to make. I decided on a double scoop waffle cone with a scoop of mint chocolate chip and the second of chocolate. The server actually was giving me MORE than the two scoops that I'd ordered, so for the first time ever in this city I had to tell someone that they gave me too much ice cream! My friends and I ventured to Coney Island on this hot and steamy July 4th weekend... And what do you need to cool you down??? Ice Cream and Icees of course!! They advertised themselves as having homemade ice cream and Icees so I thought it was worth a try. It was a busy day for them but the line went quickly and the orders were completed efficiently. (You order and pay up front and then they call out your number when they're ready to serve you your treats!) A small cup was $3 (totally reasonable... After paying $4 for a Nathan's hot dog...). We ordered passion fruit and watermelon. I liked that both ices weren't too sweet and that you could actually taste the flavors. The watermelon tasted a little more like bubble gum watermelon but still tasty. I liked passion fruit the most and ill come back for that! ... Came here at night on Labor Day. It was pretty late, so there was no line. Just order and then head to the ice cream station where you can pick your flavors of ice cream or ice. Oh, FYI, all their ice cream/ice are homemade! I selected the coconut ice cream after taste testing it. Soo good! It has little flakes of coconut in it & it wasn't too sweet at all. For $4, they give you a generous scoop on either a cone of your choice or a cup. Next time, I'll probably get the strawberry ice cream since it looked so creamy and delectable. The bf got a pina colada ice for like $3. I tried it, and it was good as well! I normally find a lot of pina colada flavors to be.. meh, but this was pretty spot on. Also, I couldn't even see the small plastic "spoons" they expected us to eat with. The flavors I had were good, but just so ordinary. Nothing special. There was no pizazz. So, I had a raspberry and a coconut river down my arm and that was well, not refreshing. As of March 15, 2015, Coney Cones is under new management. Valerio Ferrari of Luna Parks decided he wanted his friend from Italy to have a wonderful business. He approached the owners of Coneys Cones with an offer they literally could not refuse. In March the business was turned over to Luna Park for a fair price. Luna Park now owns Conys Cones. Valerio's friend now manages and makes all the Ice Cream, well not exactly, He now produces Gelato. Gelato has less fat in the cream and is churned slowly so as not to have much air. His gelato tastes great with very rich flavors and a silky texture. That said He charges $4 plus tax for a Kiddie portion cone. The pictures you saw year for a single are bigger than the double this year. Is the Gelato that much better as to warrant a premium price on Coney Island. Do the folks that come to Coney Island really want Gelato. A big fat Ice Cream cone called "Bear Turds" is as American as it gets. Although I love his flavors, I am not in love with the price. His friend proudly told me that the only good ice cream comes from Italy... We shall see... There are many other offerings in Brooklyn with the same or better quality with much more value. In the end we wish Valerio and his friend great success for their success is our success. I just wish the gelato master realized where his Ice Cream Parlor was and create an amazing product for our community that we can afford. I am giving this 3 stars because he has truly created amazing flavors. This is literally one of the most flavorful ice cream cones I've had ever. I couldn't lick the ice cream quick enough. Something told me not to give a care about how it was dripping on my hands and to lick my hands even. I'm an ice cream snob as I hate cheap ass tasting ice cream. I read the reviews and decided to try the place. My girlfriend and I first ordered a veggie panini sandwich and a couple of bottles of water. The panini was delicious! The price was very reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients and the taste. About an hour later we returned and each of us had two scoops on a cone. I had the strawberry and mango and my girl had the cookie monster and vanilla fudge. WOW! We both agreed that we haven't had ice cream that good in a long time. Ok so I already paid but because they are all standing there and there friend was paying after me they should get served first. Makes no sense.
