Computerland has the capacity for thinking outside the box. After 4 other attempts at other service provider places, (including apple support and apple genius) took on my troubled Mac book pro. The first 4 attempts I was left with, "its dead it's not worth it. Buy a new one." Computerland of Berkeley for a small nominal fee diagnosed that all I needed was a keyboard!! A small repair to get everything back to normal. And by that I mean work, production and deadlines that lead to invoices, 'back to normal'. Just think. Apple and others said I needed a new one. As a road warrior creative director I completely rely on my 17" top of the line (even by today's standards) Mac book pro. Could not have expected more!!! I had troubles with my Macbook (covered by my workplace under AppleCare), and instead of heading to the Apple Store, I thought I'd try Computerland. The experience was amazing. I got attention immediately upon arriving to the store, and was out in 5 minutes. Two days later I got my Macbook back with motherboard and screen replaced, and the whole computer looked like new (and my data was not deleted so I could just start working). Again I had to wait no time at all, and was out after a nice chat with the technician that worked on my computer. I'm was extremely happy with the service, and the staff, would definitely go there again if I manage to mess up my computer again. read more

They were great! My laptop was running slow and I believe it got affected with a virus. They help me reinstall Windows. The inside was dirty and they cleaned it for me as well. The prices are more reasonable than taking it to Best Buy or Fry's! Thank you! read more

This review is long overdue because I went in just over a month ago. My HDD fried completely and I was having trouble removing the screws from the hard disk bracket and what not, went down to Computerland to see if they could help me out and lo and behold, my computer was magically disassembled and reassembled that afternoon back to it's shining glory. The two owners have been in business a long time in Hayward and recently relocated to Berkeley. They're really friendly and incredibly helpful, and they're an authorized help center for pretty much all computers, so you won't have to worry about destroying your warranty either. I will definitely go back when any computer trouble arises (though I hope I won't have to!) read more

Yes, top notch. The only way I could get a repair done more affordably is get my mom to do it (seriously, she's a mac genius, and I don't mean one of those trademarked "Geniuses" that work at Apple Stores) and since she lives across the country shipping it to her would cost as much as it cost me to get the logic board cleaned, a new OS installed, and a new airport card. I will say that after getting the logic board cleaned I had to bring it back in to get the airport card issue fixed, but that was my mess up. Good guys, and they won't dick you around about a ding in the case like Apple stores will. I'll have to restore my data from my backup, and we'll see how it works after that, but so far I'm really pleased. read more

Had a fantastic experience here. My Mac's keyboard had major problems and took it for repairs. They repaired it within 3 business days and my computer is as good as new! They even replaced my battery for free which apparently is connected to the keyboard. Super happy with this company. read more

I am always looking for good technicians. Good service , expert knowledge and fair prices are so hard to come by. When you find all 3 in one place it's like finding gold! I first came to Computerland to install some RAM in my iMac I just didn't trust myself to do it. They were fast, friendly, and the bill was not sticker shock. So when one of my back-up drives died on me, with well....back-ups, and I had not backed-up my back-ups, I kind of panicked. But they were the first place I thought of. I figured if they could not retrieve the data I would just have to suck it up as poor planning on my part. (I still have to suck it up. lol) Not only did they retrieve my data, I did not faint at the bill. And was quite surprised that it was not more. I am eternally grateful that they were able to help me out in my desperation and I really want the world to know (or at least the bay area) that this is the place to go if you have computer trouble! I live in Alameda, so I have a bit of a trek to get to them and would gladly do it again and again. I high recommend Computerland. This place is really great. The "h" key of my laptop stopped working. I went to the Apple store, only to be told that the walk-in waitlist time was a couple of hours. I went to Computerland the next day and talked to Tony. He told me that the normal repair time for a keyboard is around a week, but I needed my laptop for my classes and I told him that. He was very nice and waived the rush fee for me. I got my laptop fixed in one day. The service here is wonderful. read more

So my fan in my laptop starts sounding like a lawn mower and I call Apple. They suggest Computerland (my macbook was still protected under its warrantee, and these guys'll fix it free for ya). Friday, I drop my laptop in and casually add that the touchpad hadn't been working for a while, either. Got a call Monday when my laptop was finished and ta-da! All fixed, ordered and installed a new fan, the touchpad's a million bucks, and I guess they did a little extra cleaning inside too. I had my Mac into Computerland three times for the same problem. My overall dissatisfaction led me to bring a Consumer Advocate with me on my last visit. Bottom line, they appear nice, but they are cut throats who say they are the only authorized Apple repair shop in the East Bay. That may be true, but I've found other Berkeley shops that offer better service and a 6 month warranty on Mac "mother boards." They offered 30 days which had me paying for two mother boards inside of three months. read more

After my cat knocked a glass of water over all over the keyboard of my MacBook Pro, Apple wanted $375 and two weeks to fix it. Um, no. I saw that this place had great reviews, both here and on Google, so I took it in to them. These guys saved my bacon! They tried to clean off the damage twice, and when that didn't work, sent away for a new keyboard right away. I had it back within a week, with a brand-new keyboard and zero data loss. They even cleaned the screen! And all both faster and cheaper than Apple would have done. If I have any computer problems in the future, I'm taking it straight here. And I was really impressed with the customer service, too - both guys were very friendly and attentive (they even remembered my name on sight when I went in to pick it up), they very clearly explained what the problem was and what they were going to do about it, and their prices were extremely reasonable. read more

Deceptive business practices and poor customer service make this a computer repair store to avoid. They state that they will purchase parts directly from the manufacturer, but buy them instead on Ebay and bill you for the cost of the part as quoted by the manufacturer at a greatly inflated price. When I asked the actual cost of the parts purchased (which knew from checking Ebay), the technician refused to share that information with me. ADDENDUM: Apparently, some of the above derived from miscommunication with a member of Computerland's staff while the boss, Gus, was out of the country. On his return, he was quite helpful and did his best to correct the misunderstanding and alleviate the unhappiness which arose from the situation. In short, he was extremely professional and indeed raised my opinion of Computerland significantly, particularly as part of the issue was a result of the manufacturer's slowness. Overall, then I would be happy to trust Computerland with another repair were one needed and recommend them, though do lightly caution that you do check on the sourcing of parts and the delays with particular manufacturers. read more

I went in there two times in the last 6 months. The first time my HP laptop was infected with viruses I could not even restore it on my own. Brought it in and the serviceman explained what needed to be done. They gave me a call the next morning saying it was ready to go. All my data was still intact which was a big worry for me. The second time was last week. My laptop was overheating and would slow down after a few minutes and I could not figure out what the problem was. They told me that this time it was the hard drive that needed to be replaced. They gave me the quote and explained it would be a few days for the new part to be there. I have it back and the laptop is running fast like it's new again. I could not be happier with it. Overall I am very satisfied with my experience dealing with these guys. read more

These guys and gal, are awesome!!! I had a 2009 MacBook that crashed yet again, and they were able to fix her up without replacing the hard drive since it had already been replaced. I even ended up paying less cause they're such experts! I also spilt coffee on my 2012 Mac Book Pro and they cleaned it out and replaced the top deck for $260! Apple was going to charge me about $800-$1000 and I have Apple care! These guys are extremely professional and know what they're doing. As someone who has had horrible experiences at the Apple store in Berkeley and Emeryville, I will be coming here instead for all my Mac issues. Not very good experience. I found there was at least three stains inside my camera at the back of my iphone(I could not fix it myself), after getting it back from Computer of Berkeley (because of cracked screen). There was nothing there before the repair. I made an apointment for Genius Bar at Apple and went out with a brand new phone after 20 minutes. read more

I highly recommend Computerland. My MacBook Pro had been super slow and crashing regularly. I worked with Apple support three times. I did a lot of troubleshooting with them and even replaced the hard drive, but my problems continued. I finally brought it into ComputerLand. I gave them the brief history and the very first thing they told me was that there was a recall on the motherboard for my MacBook. WHY didn't Apple ever mention this? Because they can't admit their products aren't absolutely perfect? Computerland ran a test and it failed. Therefore the motherboard would be installed for free. Two days later it was ready and my computer is working great. I wish I had brought it to them right away. read more

These guys were, simply put: Amazing!! They gave me an extremely reasonable price on some pretty serious repairs that needed to be done. At first I went to Keane and they were trying to charge me about $700. At Computerland I got the same amount of work done for $380. Additionally they go it done ahead of schedule for me so I could have my computer with me before I left to travel. Best customer service I have ever experienced. read more

When my MacBook stopped working properly on a Thursday, and none of the Apple stores in the Bay Area had a Genius Bar appointment until the middle of the next week, I was really worried. My business is entirely based on my computer. No problem, though. Computerland replaced my broken trackpad and I had my computer back the next day! These guys are really nice, professional and prompt. They even called and told me my laptop was finished a couple hours earlier than they had anticipated, so I could come get it early. And it was all covered under my AppleCare policy! I'll be back to Computerland! read more

Amazing and speedy service! After my 10-month old Toshiba Qosmio had a hard drive failure, Toshiba customer non-service said it would take 7-10 business days at their repair center, not including the shipping to and from (which I had to pay). They eventually said that the repair would be covered under warranty at Computerland, 53 hours after dropping it off, I had it back. CL is a lifesaver for this stressed-out grad student with a thesis due in 1 week. read more

I could not be happier with my experience with Computerland. My two year old MacBook Pro screen completely stopped working after having a few other issues--camera not working and some lighting issues--and after messaging with Apple all morning and not making any progress I decided to call a few computer stores in Berkeley. Most said it would be around 6/700 bucks to replace the screen since all other tricks to fix it hadn't worked. I decided to go with Computerland since my roommate had had a similar issue with her MacBook Pro previously and had a great experience with them as well. When I called they said they would take apart the computer before replacing the screen to make sure it wasn't just a minor issue they could fix more easily (basically looking to save you as much money as possible) and when I went to pick up my computer five days later they didn't charge me a dime! They maybe took a couple days longer than other places but it was totally worth it--my computer is working great and didn't lose any data in the process (even without having backed it up basically ever). Service was super friendly and seemed like they genuinely cared about their customer. Couldn't recommend enough. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Computerland last week. My computer was having problems and wouldn't start at all. I had some important files on my computer that I needed in a few days so I decided to remove my hard drive and take it to a computer repair shop to transfer the files to my external hard drive. At first I went to Authorized Computer Repair on MLK, but they said 80 dollars if nothing is wrong and it starts at 100 if something is wrong. 80 dollars! For a file or two?! No way. Then I decided to try Computerland. The workers were so nice and generous! One of the workers was really helpful. He checked my hard drive and it was corrupted. I left it overnight and I came in to pick it up the next day. The files that I really needed were saved was well as a lot of other material which was really nice to get back. He didn't mark up the price just because my hard drive was messed up and charged me less than any other place. I was more then happy with their service and their price :) The worker also helped me figure out how I could fix my computer on my own. We talked extensively about all the options I had and guided me through the steps of each option. I decided to try to use the same hard drive and not spend money on a new one. The worker formatted my hard drive and told me the different ways I could install a platform. He was very nice and patient. He didn't mind spending extra time explaining things to me even though he didn't have to. I highly recommend this computer repair store to everyone. They have wonderful people and excellent service. I ended up fixing my computer within the next day. From my workplace, I was able to get Windows 7 so I just installed it with a CD and my computer has been working smoothly since; no problems with the hard drive. If I ever have problems with my computer again, I am running to this place no doubts about it. read more

My laptop started smoking one day, seriously, out of the usb port. I shut it down and brought it in to Computerland. The guys told me what needed to be done and explained exactly what they were doing, which is helpful because I don't know much about hardware. After cleaning the internal compartments, they discovered the processing card was the issue. They quoted me a very reasonable price and got to work. They even called to update me as the work progressed. Very friendly and professional. I am new to the area, but I have now at least found the place to go for any computer repairs I need. read more

These guys are great--much better than the Apple stores that take days to get an appointment just for a diagnosis. (And days more to get the problem fixed.) There were two things wrong with my computer--a failing hard-drive and a defunct track pad. When Apple didn't send a new track pad, they sent me home with my computer and a mouse they lent, rather than keep the computer in the store until the track pad came. They also let me sit there for hours until I was absolutely sure I had all my data. And they made a personal call to Apple when I couldn't download iTunes.. Totally stellar. read more

Great service experience at Computerland! I took my MacBook Pro in for a warranty repair of the display ("staingate" issue). The service was efficient and friendly and turnaround time for the repair was around 1.5 days (after they had estimated 3-4 days). Now I am back up and running with a perfect new display just in time for a work trip! Totally saved me! It's noteworthy that I first tried the Apple Store who told me I needed an appointment and that the repair could take as long as 2 weeks! I called Computerland today for a price for a battery replacement. The price was $91 more than Apple's price. Also $55 above the cost for a well known local authorized Apple service provider who does 24 hour turnaround time. What's going on with this? I'd suggest some comparison shopping. read more

I spilled water on MacAir that I use to work on from home! Although it took replacing the motherboard twice they guys were incredibly patient and flexible with me....and I'm a little embarrased to say I was pretty demanding and don't know anything about computers. read more

My Macbook Pro went out on me in a middle of a project. Since it was still under warranty, I took it to the Apple store, they told me that I had to call and make an appointment for them to just take a look at it, then it maght take them 2 weeks before it's fixed OR I could take it to Computerland if I need it any faster. So I did. The guy at Computerland ran a diagnostic on it wright away and told me that he would replace the HDD in less than 3 days, and for a very small price he could transfere the data from the dying HD.
