Once to Fry's and another time to another mom & pop repair. Both were over 10 years ago and both times I felt I was ripped off. I had 20 or so years of mp3s, photos, movies, and videos that was lost when my single volume D:\ shared across two 512gb hdd was removed causing all of my data to disappear. Solomon was able to recover 99% of the data and back into its original folders. I'm giving a four star instead of five because the service was relatively pricey $699 compared to other quotes I received, however HDD Recovery was a lot closer to where I live. Also, because my hard drives were relatively full, some important financial files I had in the root directory were not recoverable. Regardless, I'd still recommend if price is not a concern and if you value years worth of data recovered for whatever reason, convenience or sentimentality.

The effort of recovering the data ended up being very challenging and took longer than any of us expected, but at the end Five Star was able to recover over 99% of the files--and I'm happy to say, the 1% of files were not important to me, so the 99% they recovered covered everything I needed. Despite that significant extra work, they invoiced me only for the original quoted amount. I'm happy with the results but also the professionalism. When I first reached out to Five Star, they got back to me at the start of the next business day and, after answering a few follow-up questions, I had a quote and scheduled to drop off my drive the same day. I was unable to recover data from them in different ways. Disc one was an external drive that would not power on. I tried removing it from its external enclosure and powering it from another, more different enclosure to no avail. The system was indeed down. Disc two was an internal drive that used to be my C drive- my boot drive. I removed it from an old computer after it stopped booting and put it into an external enclosure. Several different computers (Mac & PC) would recognize it sporadically, though none could access the data on it- error codes always came up. Before I removed it, from the old computer, I tried booting from an optical disc and other assorted methods, many other assorted methods... I believe I was very thorough in my efforts. I sent both in and received near 100% recovery. They said it was 100% from one and 99.9% from the other but I am unable to find that .1%. I got all of this for just barely above the $300 price in their name (each, not total). So for about $600 total (including new discs on which my recovered data was transferred and return shipping) I got this incredible service. The total price I paid for both discs at 300DDR is less than I was quoted at several other places for one disc. At each step they were great communicators, from their receipt of the discs to my receipt of the recovered data. I hope I never need their services again but should, I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. I highly recommend them.

Before contacting 300DDR, I took my drive to a local computer repair shop. They had it for more than a week, and every time I followed up, I was told they would call me back. After several days, they finally contacted me, likely because I kept checking in, and unfortunately told me they could not recover the data. There's an $89 diagnostic fee, and if repairs are needed, part of the $89 fee can be used towards the cost, which felt reasonable. The next day, Martin called to let me know there was no damage and that he had cleaned the affected keys. He explained that my laptop passed all tests, but the battery was consumed. When I wasn't sure what that meant, he patiently explained and advised that since the battery wasn't swelling and the computer was still performing well, there was no need to replace it unless I noticed issues. I really appreciated that he took the time to explain everything and didn't try to upsell me. I was able to pick up my laptop later that same day which was less than 24 hours after dropping it off. I paid the $89 diagnostic fee and understood that it would be applied toward the repair cost if I moved forward with the repair. That policy is completely reasonable. After diagnosing the issue as a failed motherboard, however, I was told they could not obtain the necessary Asus part and therefore could not perform the repair. I later learned that an authorized repair provider could obtain the part and complete the repair. My frustration is not that they charged for diagnostic time. My frustration is that no one mentioned before taking my money that they might not be able to source Asus parts or complete the repair. Had I known that, I would have taken the computer directly to an authorized repair provider. The laptop is currently being repaired by Geek Squad. I intentionally support small local businesses, and Di-No is close to my home, so it seemed like a win-win. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When I asked whether a refund was possible given that the repair could not be performed, I was told no. Consumers should know there is a possibility they may pay for a diagnosis, only to discover that the shop cannot complete the repair and that they will need to start over elsewhere.

I called this morning to ask what they charge for installing a new hard drive in a desktop. I had ordered one from amazon to make the slave on my desktop for more mass storage of data (muhahahaha - I am running NORADS backup servers over here LOL - not really just lotsa videos, pictures and music) and the hard drive did not come with an install kit (no cables, casing etc) so instead of trying to rely on the guys at Major Retail Computer Store to help me figure out what I needed, I called Chuck. They don't normally work on Sunday but I told them about my urgency in getting my laptop repair. They made an appointment with me and met me at the front door. We communicated over multiple days, and he was always easy to reach by text, very responsive, and extremely attentive. What really sets Jose apart is that he explains everything he's doing. You can stand there and watch him work, ask questions, and actually learn. He also gave me great tips for maintaining my system going forward. With all the time, effort, testing, cleaning, upgrades, and communication involved, he charged only $85 for the service -- which is incredibly reasonable. On more than one occasion, she and technology...just don't get along, and everything went FUBAR. Here's where Sam comes to the rescue for both my MIL and me. My MIL can trust that Sam will get her tech up and running, and I, from 3600 miles away, have complete confidence that Sam knows what he's doing and then some. At at the latest tech incident at my MIL's house, Sam went above and beyond the call of duty. The fact that he has great with older folks is a big plus in my book. I know some people might balk at his rate, but you know what, Sam is worth it.

Ok the weird thing about this place is it's not exactly "on-site" . . .I had to call the number…read morefrom the parking lot b/c I was confused after finding a sports gear store at this address. The address is for a sports racket store where there's a random stack of printers in the middle of the store. Mike and/or his team I guess (?) pick up and drop off and you pay the guy at the counter who knows nothing about printers. I never saw the printer guys; just talked to Mike on the phone. It took almost 3 weeks, but at least prevented me from buying a whole new printer. If I spent another $100-150, though, I could have just gotten a new printer the next day. So this is the kind of situation you're dealing with.
