I was in a rush and found that there were not as many cafes in Rosslyn as I would have expected, at least not within a short walk of the metro. Stopping in here led me into a large multilevel space. They had a wide beverage menu with some alternative milks and such, and I got a strawberry matcha. It solidified oddly into a sort of gel after a few drinks. An AI search suggested to me that this was due to having too much matcha, which I suppose is better than not enough, but it was a little weird. To be fair, they had offered it to me with ice and maybe that would have been a better decision. A coffee cake was basic but satisfying. I got good service (they even asked if my name was with an H or not). The quality and distinctiveness was not what I would have gotten if I'd traveled for the best option, but for convenience, my needs were met. read more

A coworker took me to Compass Coffee during a lunch break, and it left me refreshed and ready to finish out the work day. We went as they were showcasing their springtime specialty drinks. I got the Cherry Blossom Latte which is this pretty pink color but tasted like a regular vanilla latte in my opinion, but nevertheless it was still really good. The space was clean and really big (2 floors), the workers were very sweet, and the coffee is yummy. The place is also located on the corner of the street directly across from a food hall which was very convenient. Service here is next level. When I went, there were a lot of baked good samples (coffee cake and banana nut?) which were also delicious. I also ordered a lemon pound cake and after went to visit the food hall next door. When I left the food hall next door, I saw a woman flagging me down from down the street. I had left my lemon pound cake and this lady was seamlessly trying to find me in the streets. This coffee unfortunately just tastes like any regular Dunkin' Donuts coffee and was not worth the $8 price tag. I asked for a pumpkin ice latte with no ice and it had 0 pumpkin flavor and a lot of ice. Gave it an extra star for a nice working environment with plenty of restaurants around, other than that, would not come here for drinks or food again. Food Tried the cinnamon roll and liked the flavor. Not too sweet and not too mucb icing, which is my preference. Also tried the gingerbread latte and it was petty good. Hard to explain but it tasted better towards the bottom of the cup. Service Straightforward. Walk up to the counter and order. Had the cinnamon roll in my hand immediately and just a couple of minutes for the drink. Ambiance REALLY like the interior. 2 floors, couple of fireplaces on the first floor with 1 lit this cold/rainy day. Airy and bright inside. This continues to be my favorite compass coffee in the DMV, and my favorite coffee shop in Roslyn hands-down The main reason is the staff, it's a friendly and warm cast of regulars over the years and drinks have always been made promptly . The entry area and coffee bar itself feature gorgeous, live edge wood, which really lens an upscale ambience. There's cozy seating by a fireplace with tall floor to ceiling windows, and ample workspace upstairs as well. I appreciate the part positioning of conversational seating downstairs and space to get work done or read upstairs It's definitely the best coffee shop in the neighborhood, and I appreciate their steady expansion of the menu. read more

I tried the maple iced latte, and while it was tasty with a decent espresso flavor, at over $7, I didn't feel like it was worth the price. This Compass Coffee is only a couple blocks away from my office in Rosslyn and the metro. If I can help it I always try to take the train in because parking can get crowded and expensive in the nearby garages. As others have mentioned there is more room upstairs to settle in and work or study. If you're with a larger group there are 2 longer tables and a bunch of smaller nooks and smaller tables with varying degrees of access to power outlets. The first time I was here I got a coffee and pastry. Both were fine. The second time I visited they weren't as busy so they were friendlier and took a little more time with the latte art which was nice. Bad coffee, good location. Something is always up with this branch (Ballston and others don't seem to have these problems) it's always having issues. It's likely they don't service their equipment properly (or they don't get the weights and measures right). Either way the espresso, latte, cortado, etc all universally bad - even if you ask them to remake it (probably don't bother). They charge top dollar for drinks, but they really are bad. In such a competitive coffee area, just go across the street. (Separately - they no longer bother to actually show their menu or prices on their menu board, not even a QR code at the counter - you should just guess what they have and how much it costs) I live/work nearby and have given this place a lot of chances but they just can't get ahead basics right. read more

Breakfast in town. I was in Arlington for a class and this was the closest coffee spot. Uber-modern decor, a bored acting staff, and poor food quality made this an unfortunate experience. Other than a cup of regular coffee, I can't in good faith recommend Compass. There are better choices around the area. read more

A really good cold brew! If you're anywhere in the DC area near a Compass Coffee during springtime, then you must try their Cherry Blossom Cold Brew. This beautiful pink coffee drink has the flavor of cherry vanilla. It's a limited offering that is basically their classic cold brew that is topped with their house-made vanilla and pink cherry blossom syrups. It's unique, and very good. I think the cherry blossom syrup gives it the pink color. Some of the the other menu items are the mint cold brew, turmeric honey latte, lavender latte, and so much more that may also be seasonal. They have different teas as well. You can also get a cold brew growler which I thought was cool. I didn't see any K-Cups there, but I ended up purchasing some online just to try the coffee. The Waypoint dark roast coffee is very good. You get free shipping on orders over $35. I would have bought them at the store but I didn't see any. I love the bi-level layout of this shop in Rosslyn. There weren't many people there at 7:00am. I was told that many people still work at home. But, people are slowly getting back to the morning commute again. I sat downstairs near the fireplace and had a nice view of the city streets. I headed upstairs just to see what was there. It's a very large space. Plenty of places to plug in to work, or to study. There's even a large room in the back for groups and meetings. Lots of different types of seating as well. This coffee roaster is local to DC, and was founded by 2 Marines so it's a Veteran-owned company. I didn't know any of this when I was visiting the Rosslyn area. I was just happy to see a local coffee shop that was close to the Hyatt Centric hotel. A coffee shop that is not the usual Starbucks. A place that makes their own simple syrup. A good staff who work quickly to get your drink made in a reasonable amount of time. It was a great visit. read more

Their cold brew has just the right kick to it, notes of carmel, bracing. But you know, there's a reason I keep coming back to the Rosslyn Compass Coffee- the service and the staff. They are so nice and they try really hard to make you feel at home, even when there's a line out the door in the morning. I've watched people on their first day at work try really hard to learn the ropes. It made me feel great. There are other coffee shops in Rosslyn, but you'll notice- the line is out the door here, because this is the one everyone prefers to go to. read more

Not much of a coffee drinker so I am glad that they have tea options! The gentleman serving me was super friendly and assisting with my order. I ordered the raspberry rose tea (which i didnt know existed) and it was so refreshing. Can definitely taste both the raspberry and rose. I stopped over here before entering into the metro, and this place was everything I have ever wanted in a cafe. Inordered an expresso shot and also a Hot Honey breakfast sandwich to scarf down really quickly before aiwent to work. I would definitelt consider this cafe a nice place to hang out or come and do work. The place has twonkevels with many large tables and seating options that are just awesome! I'm talking about cushioned bench and lounge chairs wjere you would hardly ever see at an average cafe. There were also at least seven employees behind the counter who were happy and ready to help. Good roasters, decent coffee, good place and friendly people. They don't have a lot of options but you do get basics like espressos and latte's along with some of their special cold brews. If it's your first time, you'll be confused since they don't have a menu, not even online. Just 5-8 options on the wall behind the baristas. Staff is friendly though and will help with selection. They have quick bite options. Place is clean, table seating is available. It can accommodate around 25-35 people easily. Service is quick. There's street parking in the front for 3 cars along with parking structure nearby. read more

Cute location with a lot of seating options inside. When I was there they had two types of different bread/pound cake samples like the lemon frost and pumpkin frost and wow those were delicious. The lemon had a strong tart flavor that you can tell real lemon was used and the pumpkin flavoring was just enough and tasted amazing. I appreciated that they were able to accommodate to various dairy preferences and the staff were very friendly. The only issue is that despite their matcha as ceremonial grade, I felt the flavor did not speak to that qualification (and I'm a matcha girl through and through). I stopped drinking coffee as a New Year's resolution going into 2024 so maybe I would return for their pastries or something else but certainly not for their matcha! read more

Compass is probably the most popular go-to spot for coffee in the Rosslyn area, especially after the former Starbucks branch that was across the plaza was shut down pre-pandemic. TBF though, compass also provides some of the best coffee in the area, with a healthy mix of seasonal drinks and cold brews. I almost always get their Vanilla Cream Cold Brew, which is a perfect blend of sweet and refreshing. When I'm craving a snack, I always end up going for their almond croissant (which is enough to fill me for lunch alone) or a brownie (if I'm feeling extra good that day). Honestly, I haven't had a bad experience yet. They have both downstairs seating (next to the fireplace) or upstairs seating, which features two large communal tables and a good dose of two person cafe-style tables tucked into some noise-cancelling booths. Great place to study~just be ready to jockey for outlet space if you're expecting to stay long! read more

This location is near ABC news. Metro is nearby. There is also a parking garage across the street. The location has seating upstairs too. It is a great spot to grab a pastry & beverage with a friend. Many of the drinks can be made cold. The Chai Latte is my go to choice. The employees are nice. They will heat any pastry for you. read more

We happened upon this place when looking for food while changing trains. It has great vibes! The staff were all extremely friendly and so willing to answer all of our questions. They gave us samples to try and the drinks we did order were amazing! I had a nitro cold brew with maple and my wife opted for "fall in a cup" as she put it, hot apple cider. The restrooms were clean and upstairs had room to play games, read books or even just get some work done. If we are back in the area we will most definitely be stopping by again. read more

Good service, OK pastries, subpar coffee. I went on a weekday morning and was able to place my order within three minutes of arriving despite a line. I ordered a dark roast and the lemon pound cake. The pound cake was fine, with a good frosting layer and appropriately sweet and lemony. However, the coffee which I had black was weak, watery, and flavorless.
