Actually ate fish tacos around the corner ( 5 stars) and bought 2 Brixton hats ( 5 stars) - I also will be back for the to go cheese/gift shop- and peeked in to the surf shop who had the friendliest owner and wonderful clothing that my son would love- I wanted to shop for a bouquet of flowers that I could see in the distance - they were gorgeous!!! but because the tables for people to eat were full and directly in front of all of the flower arrangements I could not get up close to even try grab anything - maybe the flowers could go next door at the plant store ? which seemed empty - Great addition to Oside!!!! read more

Great coffee, plenty of seating inside and outside and out the back on their patio. The coffee here is always amazing and their baristas to a great job. The breakfast food items are delicious (somewhat small portions for the price tag, but certainly creative tasty and flavourful). Service can sometimes take a little while, but it's obvious that care and attention goes into every drink! I have been a little reluctant to cruise by for a to-go coffee when I'm on my way to work in the mornings as the line and service time can be longer than convenient. I'll try ordering a to-go coffee using their online ordering system and let you know how that works out! read more

Great spot service and location. Love it for when I need an "office" space outside of my home for a few hours. Great rewards program and drinks. read more

Great place to hang out and work. They have great variety of food and drink options. I really liked their latte flight. They open until 10pm for those who want to stay late for work. They also have alcohol too, which is very interesting. Stable Wi-Fi, indoor and outdoor seatings with multiple outlet, which is very great for work and study. However they can get very busy on weekends and loud, at least when I was there on a Saturday, which might be distracted for those who want to come for work/ study read more

It's tough to leave a review like this because I've thoroughly enjoyed a lot of the drinks from here. However, as of late I've noticed an uptick in subpar lattes. They either come out perfect or lacking in coffee flavor and sweetness, just coming off as bland. It's especially disappointing after spending basically $8 only to receive a drink lacking in taste. I regularly get the hazelnut brown sugar and sometimes it just tastes like milk with a hint of coffee. read more

Cute, trendy coffee shop in Oceanside if you're looking for that young, hip vibe-this is the place. Right next to a Brixton which has cool clothing (Oside originated company). PARKING is NO BUENO unless you get lucky, but what can you expect in this area of Oceanside. Yeah it sucks, that's it. 2 hour street parking except one day a week on each side (check the signs!!) also that road is pretty sketch, constant honking and almost collisions happen often-probably people looking for parking lol, just be aware and drive safely :) Are you craving that oat milk iced vanilla latte and avocado toast while you scroll through pinterest and try and but ultimately fail to solve wordle? You've come to the right place. Good customer service, nice workers (which is refreshing since trendy places tend to have snobby workers-Carlsbad, I'm looking at you *cough cough*). Tried the iced matcha with oat milk, was pretty good. Pretty standard. They serve the typical pastries and snack foods here as well. Dog friendly :)) They also sell very cute stationery, gifts, decor and knick knacks (the boho-y vibes are strong-ya feel me?). Seating is decent, some outlets available depending on the location of your seat, and it can be VERY glare-y and a bit TOO bright depending on where you are sitting and facing since they do leave the windows open so beware of that. You may not be able to see your laptop screen or your friend or partner/anything because you'll have the sun in your face. Sunglasses may be needed. Bathrooms are clean too. Always a plus! Wifi is decent. Also a plus!! read more

This place has a nice vibe. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It gets busy quick though. Food is good (chilaquiles and pastries). Didn't get to try their coffee this time but maybe next time. read more

Extremely overpriced for below mediocre food. Tiny portions and very inconsistent. Took forever to place my order and even longer to get my one drink and sandwich. Barista had a nasty attitude. Only reason this review is getting 2 stars is because of the older gentleman who was running food. Absolute sweetheart!! He needs to be running the place! read more

Wife's favorite spot while we are in are for are yearly summer getaway from home the coffee is great service is on point too

Love the look of the place! So many cool things to check out and everything! The coffee is good and strong! I needed to add some extra cream and sugar at home. Parking can be a little tricky since it is a busy neighborhood/area. My friend saw some ladies outside having something in a bowl she thought looked good. I told her we should ask the girls what they ordered. She did not want to do that, but I wish we would've done it! Instead we got oatmeal. I was shocked to see the cashier grab a pre-made oatmeal cup from behind the counter. I thought maybe she would pour it in a bowl, but no lol! She did add some fruit which was cool, but a $2 up charge. I must've misread the menu since I thought the oatmeal came with lots of fruits, but this was not the case. The oatmeal was fine, but small. I don't think I have had an almond flavored oatmeal before. For $6, I could've walked to the liquor store around the corner and got an oatmeal cup for way less. I would like to try something else next time. The people next to us got bagel sandwiches which looked much better! read more

So great to see this part of downtown revitalized with cool spaces like this. Communal is a great place, with coffee, flower arrangements, food and very lovingly selected gifts and home goods. We've already visited several times and will continue to return. read more

The cutest little coffee shop! Had a business meeting there yesterday. Love all the options. I got one of the herbal teas and the communal avocado toast with an egg. Both were really good! Only complaint about this place is the service did take a little longer but other than that it was great. read more

Can't say I'm super happy with my experience. I came in on Sunday with my wife and had a great time! Service was decent, most things were clean and the coffee was amazing. I had a flight and a toasted croissant. Great! I came in again today, and I don't think I'll be coming back. Service was absolutely abysmal. I had to interrupt the baristas' conversation to just put in my order. It was made very obvious to me that I was a nuisance and should be disregarded. I wanted another flight and a croissant. I asked for it to be toasted, just like last time, and lo and behold, they "don't do that here". Fine, whatever. I go to find a table, and there isn't a single table that has been cleaned. Each one has crumbs and coffee rings. I clean the table myself. After I finish my coffee and untoasted croissant, I head to the restroom. The scene is something I expect from a dive bar. Trash can was completely full, with paper towels mounting up on the counter. Normally, I try to give the benefit of doubt to the staff, but in this particular case, after being disrespected, I could not. And that is not to mention that there was PLENTY of staff to take care everything. I'm talking 6-7 staff members hanging out by the cash register. Do better. read more

Everything is solid here: coffee, food, atmosphere. Another awesome coffee shop in Oceanside.

Love that this place has it all - coffee, food, even drinks!! Had the avocado toast with gluten free breads (yum) and the elder flower spritz (YUM), super super recommend!!! It's so cute and great to hang out read more

I used to love communal, but this location is horrible. I sat at the register while the employees kept talking to each other right in front of me, not even paying attention to the person waiting in line. Then the lady who rung me up was rude, and then proceeded to keep talking to the other girls while no one bothered to make my drink. The drink she did make was horrible. This location needs to seriously pay attention to their horrible employees who have made me never want to come here again. read more

Dope spot. Space: open, airy, abundant and welcoming. If west elm had a cafe/wine bar People: the staff is kind, constantly testing out drink recipes and freshness ( I think - they definitely label so that's a good sign of hygiene). when busy just remind them if they forget your pastry or something bc they're people too. I used to bartend, so shit gets hectic and I get it. patrons are chill and helpful. good amount of foot traffic, but not a crazy volume where the staff is overloaded and drinks are missed. the customers are friendly so the vibe check is on point Coffee: Great drinks so far - the cold brew mint thing and house brews are good. Their lattes are good too. It's coffee, so it's hard to mess up. I love coffee and pull my own espressos so I don't expect a highly dialed in grade of quality anywhere. They make their drinks well, and if you don't like it just talk to your barista and work with them. Work/study: Great spot to study or work from. Plenty of outlets. I love this place. One day I'll snag a cinnamon roll! haha it sells out by 11:30 am on weekends. note: Restaurant industry is struggling everywhere. Some places are short staffed while other places deal with shortages. You'll notice anywhere that people are training others. Take it chill, give space, and just work with the flow of things. Give helpful feedback rather than aggressive criticism. This is just a personal note to the public that I'm going to share on my reviews. read more

I ordered a small mocha, which is a whopping $6.50, and replaced the milk with almond milk ($1 charge). It came in a tiny, ~5oz mug, and it was awful. The drink tasted sour. And it wasnt hot, just barely warm. The ham and cheese bagel that I ordered was so small, it wasn't the size of a traditional bagel, but all least it tasted good. There were gnats and all over and they disrupted the experience. I will not be returning, not with those ridiculous prices, the sloppiness of the staff (beanies and sloppy clothes, and zero smiling), and all the gnats. read more

I went in for a coffee and a quick breakfast and I paid $30 for a coffee and the smallest breakfast burrito I've ever seen. I was highly disappointed because the food is so expensive for how small it was. It was not filling and I wouldn't have minded if it was half the price but for how much I paid I was expecting the best burrito and coffee of my life. And the cashier was rude after he took my order and no longer had to work for his tip. I got up and asked quick question and got the rudest response. read more

Communal is the quintessential hipster coffee shop! The vibrant ambience is inviting and picturesque. When one sees a "hipster" coffee shop on the television, particularly set in California, you invariably end up with something rather like Communal. Complete with patrons glued to various devices such as iPhones and laptops, paying no attention to those around them despite the close proximity of some of the tables. I have only had the avocado toast (and the cucumber avocado toast that is not currently on the menu) but I love it. It is my go-to for a brunch. read more

Service was great but the place could be cleaner. Crumbs on floor and some even on tables.

Dirty counters that have not been wiped in weeks full of dust, old dripped coffee and hair right where you prep your coffee. Restrooms had brown streaks running down walls below hand dryers, slimy sinks and hairy floors too. Would be afraid to see what the kitchen looks like. Coffee was so green tasting like beans weren't even roasted. My first and last time visiting I was so disgusted. Would not recommend read more

Dear Yelper, So excited to welcome this coffee shop (and more!) to North County! I would have given five stars for how great this place is, but I would encourage staff (at least the one staff member who took my first order here) to be more warm. I ordered a latte and chocolate croissant (huge, see photograph), and yummy! Why so great? This venue is on a much more quiet street in Oceanside, with ample outdoor seating, refreshing interior design (that opens well to the outside), coffee, pastries, bar, floral shop, and more! Well wishes, Communal, in serving to the local community. Sincerely, Anna read more

I used to love this place because of how great the quality of food, drinks, and service were. The service used to be exceptional and I always felt very welcome and happy to be there but my last two visits have been uncomfortable. My husband and I went around 11am and a male barista with a green shirt looked very unhappy and we tried to ask a simple question and he could not be more annoyed that we were asking him something. Usually the drinks are beautiful but it looked like they just tossed the milk in without any care. Once we got our food I said thank you to the food runner and she just stared blankly at me and walked away. A simple "your welcome" would've sufficed. This is the second time this food runner did the same thing. I expect more out of a place that is definitely overpriced. The girl with wavy blonde hair was very nice and pleasant so I would say good job to her. They could learn something from her. Not sure if they are not being compensated well or they just have bad management lately but it seems like a mostly unhappy, bad vibe crew nowadays. read more

Stopped by here on the way to Tijuana because of the high rating and reviews. The restaurant/ coffee shop itself is cute and "aesthetic" but the food was so bland including the pastries. Really awesome place to work and great vibe! I got the lavender honey latte and loved it :)

I'm not sure where to leave this review as it's for their flowers- not the cafe. Having been to the store and seeing their gorgeous flower arrangements I was very excited to have an opportunity to order a flower crown for my daughters 16th birthday. The communication was great ... the product was disappointing. There was a great difference between the online photo and the product we received. It almost felt like the main flowers were missing. I went to JoAnns and bought silk flowers to finish it to expectation before her event. I didn't say anything on picking it up because I didn't want to embarrass my daughter. I emailed the florist and received a 'sorry your disappointed but that's what it is' response in return. So, in an effort to save others from the disappointment I felt- understand that what's online is not what you will get, even accounting for seasonal availability in flowers. read more

One of my friends told me this was a really good spot to go to for studying and that they had really good coffee so I decided to give it a try. I came today around 3:30 and it is a really nice coffee shop from the outside but the service completely ruined the experience for me. I saw a cute card on my way up to the cash register, so I brought it up to the counter to buy it. A lady with curly hair and a beanie walked up to the counter to help me and I handed her the card so she could scan the barcode. After she scanned the card, she literally tossed it onto the counter in front of me while I had my hand out to grab it back. After a moment of disbelief, she said "anything else" and I ordered my coffee. She submitted my order so I could pay and then walked away without a "thank you" or "your order will be out in a moment". I walked around, looking for a table for a couple minutes but was unsuccessful. after a few minutes, someone left the bar seating, and I was able to grab their spot. The coffee took almost 10 minutes to come out and was subpar to be completely honest. I wanted to like this place but it felt very pretentious and uncomfortable. I ended up only staying for about 10 minutes until I decided to go to my regular coffee shop, which I should've done from the beginning. read more
