Stopped in around 10:30 on a Tuesday morning after a surf. I needed to do some work and a strong coffee. Communal provided both a quiet, quaint place to get some work done, as well as one of the most delicious coffees I have had in a while! Get the coconut cream cold brew and your life will change for the better! The folks who worked there were kind and friendly, and the back patio is an amazing place to enjoy some outdoor vibes and get your work done. This might just become my new go to spot! read more

Amazing ambiance and such good coffee. Their seasonal specialties are usually super good. They also have some good pastries and a small breakfast and lunch menu. Last- they serve some cool cocktails / drinks too! read more

I walked in with my family to order a quick bite and coffee. One of the workers asked if I needed help and I said, "oh it's my first time here, let me take a look at the menu." She didn't suggest anything and just walked away. There were two other younger girls who were standing there by the espresso machine talking amongst themselves having a conversation. I asked them what was good here and they continued to talk amongst themselves some more as they stared at my husband whispering something about him - blatantly ignoring me. Although I wanted to walk out, I did order a latte - only because i was needing some coffee and was already there. We did not stay to order any food at all. Overall the workers were rude and the caramel latte I ordered was just OK. Needless to say, I won't be back here again. I hope the owner reads this and has a talk with their employees about how they need to treat customers and not stare at people and talk about them. JUST RUDE! read more

Communal Coffee - Pizza - Cafes Near Me - Oceanside, California

We visit Oceanside frequently (and used to live here) and LOVE the coffee. Best lavender latte! Which is the only reason I chose 2 stars after our experience yesterday morning. The girl making the coffee messed up our 3 kids steamers and forgot the syrup (no big deal). When we asked for syrup we ordered (and also paid extra for), she was rude. Then she just refused to complete our coffee order and didn't make my husband's americano. He stood right at the counter and nicely reminded her he was waiting for his coffee every five minutes. She would say "I'll get to it" with an eye roll, then he waited 20 minutes!! We counted as she literally made 27 drinks for people who ordered after us. I cannot figure out for the life of me what her problem was with my husband, who couldn't have been more polite. I finally had enough and got another employee involved and asked for an explanation as to why she was refusing to serve us. I think this was the most bizarre restaurant experience I've ever had. As much as I love the coffee, we won't return. read more

Love the smoke show and the goat cheese toast with figs. It also has an amazing outdoor space. My kids love going because they can run around. I love it because there's enough space that we don't bother anyone! The people that work there are friendly and make great suggestions read more

Honestly by far my favorite coffee shop in the area. The lattes are delicious and creamy. I loved their different flavors but a plain oat milk latte is also top notch. Their food is the best too. Super flavorful. Cute spot with really good service too. I love the spacious outdoor patio. Super fun for kids to play. Can't wait to come back. read more

Bright and cute. My drink was yummy. Nice place to hangout. Will be coming back when I'm in the area.

Great atmosphere, service, plenty of seating, etc but parking can be challenging. Check it out

First time visiting this coffee shop and my experience was absolutely terrible. We visited this location around 11am today and My sister had asked the baristas a question about seating our party and instead of giving us a straight up answer they instead gave us attitudes and sarcasm. Please DO NOT waste your hard earned money at this heinous place. Communal ? It was far from the advertised name on the building because it was giving division instead of community. I'm from Oceanside and it's sad to feel uncomfortable in your own hometown. read more

Went to this place with my husband to try something new for a weekend brunch. Line to order was huge so we ordered at the table using QR code. I wanted to add 2 eggs to my avocado toast but there wasn't an option for quantity, so only 1 egg to 2 slices of bread. Was tasty, but wish I could have more protein. Had a lavender honey latte, which was also really good. Service for me was disappointing. Food was delivered to the table but drinks we had to go and grab with the baristas, which is fine for me, but when you get there there's a lot of drinks and the barista doesn't seem to be happy to point which drink belongs to who, since there were no names and everyone was asking the same thing. Also had to ask for my sparkling water that wasn't served. Ambience was ok, nothing special IMO. I'm giving some stars for the food but this place needs a service upgrade, not pleasant to start my day with a moody barista. read more

Everything here is delicious and the environment and aesthetic is great! The only advice I have is get your coffee in a to go cup. They use very large coffee mugs and it gets cold within 5 min. The maple sandwich on a bagel is insanely delicious read more

The atmosphere and the amount of seating both indoors and outdoors is really nice. I will say that the tables indoors are so close to each other, if I don't have headphones, I get to hear personal conversations with no space. The coffee here is just okay. For the price, I'm not a fan at all and you can get better coffee at other places in Oceanside for cheaper like at Vigilante or Captains. My main caveat is how mediocre the food is here and how they really do scam you. I ordered the Caprese Toast which in the description says it has "basil" on it, but when I tell you they gave me the TINIEST single basil leaf on my toast, it made me laugh. That toast was $13. The food just doesn't really taste good, it's not quality food where they can get away with charging so much. I don't like cafes that have mediocre food. If I come here, I only enjoy the interior design and the outdoor area. read more

cam on a quiet friday afternoon for lunch. hubby had the vegan breakfast sando which was excellent. I ordered the squash pizza (made vegetarian). it was good but could use more flavor. the aesthetic inside is super cute but there were no seats available due to patrons on their laptops. i wish there was limited seating for laptops so that folks who want to eat aren't forced into the cold outside. read more

Communal is our new favorite coffee shop in Oceanside. The staff is so friendly and inviting and the food is really delicious. I've been her several times since our first visit last weekend and so far the service has been consistent. I've gotten an iced americano, iced latte and an iced coffee and all were made to perfection. As far as food, I've had their communal avocado toast and their herbed cucumber avocado (my fave). Both were fabulous. I really loved the vibe here too. Lots of people socializing and working on their lap tops. Seems to be very busy with locals so on weekends, expect longer lines and wait times. Trust me though, worth the wait. read more

Pros Great outdoor space Some good food items on the menu Comfortable place to work Location in Oceanside is walkable Staff is friendly Great loyalty program ( ~10 drinks get one free ) Cons Extremely long lines for no reason (10+ minutes w/ 2 people in line) Extremely long wait times for both food and coffee (10 + for coffee 20+ for any food items like a toasted plain bagel) Most egregious is their inconsistency with coffee. It will never taste the same ever. Been to this communal at least 50+ times and never had my coffee taste the same once. There is very clearly a fundamental issue with Communal as of late. I hope they are able to get their act together as there is no reason to go to communal in Oceanside with all the other options so close. Edit: Pictures of the $12 avocado toast with prosciutto on four separate occasions over the last month with no consistency. Either great construction and a fair amount of toppings or a joke of a sliver of bread with a quarter slice of a slice of prosciutto. This is what I mean by just terrible consistency. read more

So frustrating. Stopped on way to event. Husband ran in to get coffee.... Which was fine. The kids and I wanted hot chocolates. Mine a large, extra hot..(maybe 8 ounces barely warm came out). All of ours had peppermint added. Might be liked by some but not us, not what we ordered. So $16 for small 6-8 oz barely warm drinks. No time to go back, reorder and wait. What a waste of money read more

Came here on a holiday to hang out and get some side work done. The place is very hip and modern with tons of natural decor - very IG worthy. There are tons of places to post up and work and even an outside patio that is very cute. The coffee and food was very good! They really put in the effort to make great coffee and eats. If you are looking to come here to work be sure to get here early. We were there for the majority of the day from noon till almost 5pm and there were a few rushes of people so it might be hard to find a work spot if you needed one. Overall, it's a super cute spot that is cool to hangout or work if you can get a space. We will be back for sure! read more

My favorite coffee shop in Oceanside! Coffee is high quality and the food menu is great too! I recommend any the maple sausage breakfast sando (elevated McGriddle - hokaido English muffins are amazing), croque madam, and the Rueben are all fantastic choices. For coffee I like the sweet mint cold brew and their lemonades are a great choice if you aren't a coffee person! read more

I love the vibe, the offerings, the decor etc., but the need to install fans to keep them he flies out. I normally don't order pastries when I see flies inside the pastry case. The outdoor patio behind the car wash needs fans too. The employees have become complacent to the flies. If this was a not so posh looking place, this would be a health hazard. read more

Cutest neighborhood coffee shop! But it's so much more! My wife and stopped about a month ago during a weekend excursion. It was a bit busy, but not overwhelmingly so. As we stood in line, we soaked in the warm ambiance and low murmur of customer chit chat and perused items on the display (which I might add is perfectly used as a guard rail for the order line). The coffee shop is attached to a really cool plant shop with an open floor plan from shop to shop the space feels extra large and airy. The have a bar! You can literally come for coffee and eats, but seriously also come and have an "adult" beverage! We did not order any food this go round but what we saw coming out of the kitchen looked scrumptious. They also had some pastry options in the case at the register where you order. I ordered whatever the house brew was and my wife ordered a decaf Americano. Both with oat milk (no sweetener please! We're insulin resistant around these parts!). My wife's decaf Americano was okay, but my house brew was "basic". Most times they are, that's why I don't typically order them. My typical order for a new coffee shop is the iced cold brew with oat milk. I should have stuck to my usual. Order and delivery times are excellent, but there was a weird machine snaffu while we waited for our drinks. The espresso machine stopped working! What?! We ended up waiting 20 minutes before our drinks were ready! The manager jumped in to help, quite honestly 10 minutes too late because the orders kept stacking up. It was painful watching the baristas struggle trying to figure out what was going on. In the end she got it working, we got our coffee and headed out. Unfortunately, while we waited we noticed a couple of "no no's". A lady came from the kitchen with her personal travel mug, refilled it with coffee, then proceeded to grab the half and half from the counter top fridge next to the baristas after touching and looking at all the containers, no less. Doesn't sound like an issue, right? Maybe not, if she had not grabbed the container by the area you pour from. Putting the germs from her personal mug and hands all over the half and half used for customers drinks. A lot of room for cross contamination here. We also noticed one of the baristas had a friend walk up and say hello. They gleefully shook hands as they said hello. Here's where it gets hairy... The barista went back to touching the machine, coffee, customers cups. Again, much too much room for contamination. We were just a tad mortified. So why did I give this Communal location 5 stars? Because I had a long conversation with my wife and we talked through all of the things that occurred and that we saw. I realized some things were out of their control, and others were easy fixes. I told my wife I would go back and try the cold brew. Guess what?! I went back and the cold brew is amazing! Service was fast (as always). All of the staff were warm and inviting (again). I signed up for the point program because it's near my job. Moral of the story, sometimes the stars just aren't aligned the first time around trying out a coffee shop or restaurant. Be discerning and offer a bit of grace and give them another chance. See where that road leads. My suggestion, get y'all's behinds in to Communal Coffee in Oceanside! Order up a coffee or a cocktail, sit and relax with a homie and enjoy the good vibes. read more

Communal Coffee - turkey pesto - Cafes Near Me - Oceanside, California

A great looking place with a great idea and austenitic, and a great addition to Oceanside. Hurray for gentrification, I guess... But, there is always a "but" in 3-star reviews, the staff are so weak and unprepared for large crowds. A six-person line took about 30 min, and then we got to the front cashier somehow could not properly take out the order and forgot one of the items that we ordered. And don't get me started on the wait times for coffee, let's just say if it took them a little longer, I would've died from old age. So, please reconsider all your business processes to accommodate for peak hours, even in "these uncertain times". And I wish you more than luck in the future. read more

Locally owned upscale indoor-outdoor coffee house. Location: Corner coffee and flower shop allows easy access and street parking. Ambiance: Beach industrial with a comfort and refreshing feel. Perfect for whatever apparel you've got on. Just bring a smile. Service: Order at the counter and they call your name or provide you with a table number to bring the big orders to you. All the staff was helpful, polite and fairly quick to serve. This isn't a Dunkin drive thru so you won't get the order in under a minute but you also won't be waiting half an hour for staff to stop talking about their personal life to make your morning Joe either. Coffee/Food: Excellent! Love the croissants, and really enjoyed the Latte Flight of coffee. Just can't go wrong with fresh coffee and pastry in the morning...unless you're a curmudgeon or acting like one. Cleanliness: Despite the beachy feel with large garage door entry and spacious openings to the outside this place was clean throughout. Overall: Moved to the top of my list for Oceanview coffee shops. Looking forward to getting back there again. read more

Food is very good. Coffee is awful. I've always felt like the coffee drinks here were super water down or mostly just milk. I ordered a double shot of espresso today and there was maybe three sips of liquid in the paper cup that she handed me. Now it all makes sense. They just don't put any coffee in their coffee! Every single drink I have ever ordered from this place has been terrible. Come for the food, get coffee elsewhere. read more

One of my favorite places in Oceanside. From their ambiance and decor, food, drinks, service, space, it's all 5/5! They have a huge outdoor patio for extra with a basket of toys for kids to play with. They have a flower bar and tons of cute, carefully curated items from jewelry, kids clothes, books and home goods to buy! You must try their pastries! They have so many flaky layers, are crispy on the outside yet soft and moist on the inside. They are absolute perfection. read more

Great coffee shop for studying or catching up with friends. There is a ton of seating both inside and out (don't miss the back patio!) and a range of seating, including a few benches and couches. The drinks are $$, but what you'd expect for the area/vibe of the place. I had the lemon almond latte iced ($6 + tax) and it was delicious - a unique flavor, smooth and not too sweet! For any parents looking to catch up with friends, this place seems to be very baby friendly - I counted at least five little ones while I was there on a Friday afternoon. I was there to study but didn't feel like the number of children made it harder to focus or anything. Overall a cute little gem for a range of needs, with a very creative menu! read more

I'm OBSESSED. I was blown away by the quality of the coffee and food I ordered. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The ambiance here is amazing. I ordered an vanilla bean and salted caramel iced latte with oatmilk. The barista was so nice and asked exactly how I wanted it made. It was the best coffee I've had. You can taste the quality. I also ordered the avocado toast. I didn't think it could be that good by just looking at the ingredients but I was so wrong. It had sooo much flavor and was presented so nicely.
