So I came here for the first time today and I was excited that there were so many places to sit. They have a bunch of tables inside as well as outside on the front patio deck area. I was disappointed that there was a homeless man just sitting inside talking to himself, another man asleep on the couch, and dirty tables. Someone literally left their muffin crumbs, wrapper and empty coffee cup... the audacity of some people. But other than that, it was a good experience. I got an iced coffee and the Ham Sandwich on a biscuit for breakfast. The biscuit was perfect! This coffee shop reminds me of the Daily Grind in Fells Point, which I love. If I lived around the area I would definitely come here often to get work done and grab coffee with friends. read more

Food and service were great. You should get a jalapeno biscuit if you can. Great coffee too!

What a treat! I came here twice for coffee and a sandwich (chicken salad), and both times I was not disappointed. I'm a coffee drinker, and I had a great time. As someone who prefers freshly brewed coffee, this cafe will satisfy you. On a Sunday morning, enjoying my coffee and sandwich in the restricted seating area was a fantastic way to start my day. The other delights deserved special notes because they were both attractive and delicious. I'll return to try more. It's a must-try, so stop by or stay a while! read more

From the moment you walk through the door, you know this place is special. Wonderful staff, delicious drinks, and the right mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The perfect place to bring your own coffee mug, admire the art on the walls, and catch up with friends. read more

I love the vibe of this place. I always make it a point to stop in and grab cafe mocha and their pastries. I did give the gf options a shot but it was a little too dry for my taste. Try their croissant, danish, black bottom cupcake and liked it a lot. Only reason why I didn't give this place a 5 star is the inconvenience of not being able to place a call order. But other than that, I recommend you check this spot in Hampden! read more

came to do some work around 11 it was pretty busy and was a bit tricky to get a table but the cafe cleared up and calmed down at around 11:15. I got a dirty masala chai latte with oatmilk and it tasted great! some cafe chais are way too sweet or lack flavor, but this one was rlly good! the barista (baby bangs and cool facial piercings) was super nice and friendly read more

Employee owned business. It's a great spot to grab some breakfast and coffee in Hampden.

So glad this was reopened! Staff is welcoming and the whole place has a cute and cozy vibe which is missing in a lot of other shops. The pastries are amazing, just tried the almond croissant. Great coffee too! read more

If your closing time is 3, closing the kitchen 10, 15, or 20 minutes beforehand is complete nonsense. Why is anyone being penalized for coming in during your stated open hours, but then unable to order what they came there for? read more

So I went here to grab coffee for a friend and thank goodness they wanted something cold because that's all they had. They were out of alot items and that's not something customers want to hear. This place is definitely a hipster spot and I would recommend it only if you come early so you don't run the risk of them running out of items. read more

Good selection of pastries, food and coffee/tea. I like that they serve Rishi tea and have a variety of lattes, including MAPLE which I love! I don't recommend their Sugar Free Vanilla though, which was super artificial tasting. Loved their almond croissant and selection of macarons! read more

I just moved to Baltimore - and Hampden - a few weeks ago, and I've already been to Common Ground several times. It's great to have such a great little coffeeshop and bakery in the neighborhood! I usually order on ChowNow, because the line to order can be pretty long (especially as they only allow one party/person in at a time to order due to COVID). You can order on the app or in person, but you pick up from the window either way - so if you order ahead you can just walk up to the window, tell them your name, and get your coffee quickly! I'm not a very adventurous coffee drinker; I'm a pretty loyal Americano drinker (hot or iced, depending on the weather), but their Americano is good. My family tried a few more creative coffee drinks, and they liked theirs as well. I also tried one of their Pride shortbread cookies that they're making this month for Pride; it was delicious. They also offer other treats! And their service is great. I'm definitely going to be a regular! read more

Baked goods are top, especially muffins. The bagel sandwiches are huge and yummy. Excellent coffee & atmosphere. Always great service.

Pleasant assistance and delectable treats! Amazing range of baked goodies and coffee! Every time I enter, I get a craving! The employees are all very friendly. The environment is cool. Despite its modest size, there is a large amount of seating. The only aspect of this establishment that I would modify is the coffee, which is adequate. read more

Cute little place, they offer vegan options and tons of drinks to chose from. You ordered inside and wait outside for your items to be handed thru the window. Definitely a trendy spot. Chaotic atmosphere. People go there for the whatever vibe it has. I had maybe two drinks and matchas that were okay, the rest sucked. Honestly, instant coffee and matcha made at home are so much better. The workers are apathetic and disorganized. There was no apology when my drink was wrong and I had to go and ask if they were making it again since they literally forgot as I stood there and waited. If you want to wait 20 minutes for a mediocre drink and people who treat you like less than a customer, this is your spot. I tipped and I wish I didn't. read more

This is the cutest coffee shop. The owner was nice, sweet, knowledgeable. I loved my coconut latte. It had the perfect amount of foam and sweetness. And then dangerous chocolate chip.... DANGEROUS! It was sweet and massive. Literally the largest muffin I've ever seen. The place was a bit small for a group of people but it felt cozy. I struggled getting in and how because of how narrow the doorway is. We took some muffins to go and my wife got the largest breakfast sandwich that was on this fluffy fresh croissant! It was so delicious! She let me have a bite! I will definitely come back when we visit Baltimore again! read more

The baristas here are rude and inconsiderate. Although the coffee and tea tastes fine, in my opinion, it is not worth dealing with the baristas here. I will never come here again. Ordered a chai and a latte. Chai was sweet and almost flowery in flavor, but not overwhelmingly so. Latte was good! They only allow one person inside at a time and deliver food/drinks through a window to folks waiting on the sidewalk. Friendly service and overall great vibe! read more

Common Ground - Window where they deliver food/drinks. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

I'm a regular patron of Common Ground Bakery and Cafe, and have been for around a year. I live nearby and Common Ground quickly became one of my favorite neighborhood establishments. The coffee is great as well as the service and ambience. However, following a morning trip for breakfast with my friend, I was abruptly dealt extremely poor- if not hostile- service from an employee of Common Ground who has previously been rather cordial with me. After we received our breakfast, I went back to the counter to request more almond milk for my coffee. The person who served me seemed to slam the carton on the counter, then whipped around and stormed off. They seemed eager to get away. My friend and I were having a private conversation about Emma's candles (a seemingly new employee) on display, which we've found absurd since we first saw them, having previously known and been through tribulation with Emma. She previously tried to physically assault my partner and verbally abuse myself when we were formerly affiliated. After this account I ended any and all forms of communication with her. While my friend and I waited on our order we noticed Emma was working and immediately began to feel uneasy. This resulted in us laughing it off to ease the stress of seeing her and continued on our way after we received our food and beverage. After leaving the establishment I received a direct message, from Emma's personal Instagram, declaring that I am no longer welcome at Common Ground Bakery and Cafe (making me banned?). The message she sent can be reproduced if need be. This is unfortunate and quite frankly not only immature but also highly unprofessional. Upon receiving the direct message, I find it odd that my friend did not get banned as well, seeing as we were both apart of this unknown situation. I'm perplexed as to why an employee would deliver this information instead of a supervisor and or manager/owner. This has now made me specifically feel targeted without any further explanation as to why I am not welcome at Common Ground Bakery and Cafe. read more

Second of all, Wi-Fi and low-key, friendly Boheme atmosphere. Third, the music can sometimes take a left turn from oldies or folky to heart-palpitatingly drumbeaty to annoyingly high pitched bluesy. First of all, add up the dedicated staff, quiches, panini, coffee, tea and desserts--plus the ability to hang out and read or work on your laptop, at least until 5 p.m.--and you have one of the better places to have a bite in this slice of Baltimore called Hampden. Speaking of slices, I got two of them for the Spinach Pie and side salad (instead of chips), with the world's thickest plum-colored balsamic vinaigrette that you literally (has Rob Lowe completely killed legitimate use of this word?) have to spread with a knife. Did I say huge slices? The server (you get on line to order) cooly steered me away from my original choice of gluten-free spinach and feta quiche as a better size and taste deal. This was a thicker phyllo (if that's the term) sandwiching beaucoup de spinach between--and easier and less messy to cut than thin phyllo pies of this sort (pet peeve). The slices were so big, I literally had to take the other slice home. Space water is free. read more

How Sweet!!!! I ordered a bag of coffee, a croissant, and a latte for preorder delivery for my best friend's Birthday. I wrote a message to the delivery driver to let him know to call her and asked if he could tell her Happy Birthday from me & Common Ground saw this and added in a bag of muffins with a sweet personalized note on it that said Happy Birthday! For the customer service alone, I would keep going back. But the muffins here are SO delicious. I usually get the vegan cranberry muffin. I'm not a huge baked goods person, but I go here whenever I'm in the area. These are the best, I've tried so many of the muffins in all seriousness. The coffee is good too! I recommend stopping by in the A.M. & trying it out. read more

Everyone says you have to call ahead here. They clearly care more about their to go orders than their in house orders. We found this place to be over priced with terrible service. It took 20+ minutes to slightly toast a crappy English muffin and pour a cup of black coffee. I understand staff shortages these days but this was ridiculous. read more

I ordered Saturday morning coffee to have on a rainy day. I ordered online, I loved the customizations and options that they have. I'm pretty sure I will be returning. read more

I am really a fan of common ground. However, they tend to turn off their online ordering whenever they are busy or short staffed. They do not allow telephone orders, which is frustrating, because they could just give you a time estimate if they are backed up instead of just refusing people to call in their order. read more

I tried a coffee place nearby and was disappointed with my drink so much so that I tossed it after only a few sips. I decided to try again with Common Ground and I'm so glad I did. When I walked through the door, the first thing I noticed was a substantial food and drink menu, with gluten free and vegan options. They also have multiple dairy free options for your coffee (score!). I got my coffee 50% off with my Yelp check in (yay), and ordered an iced latte with coconut syrup and oat milk. It was delicious. I also tried a chocolate mocha muffin which was gluten and dairy free and it was so good, large enough to share! The shop is small but there are a few tables to sit. Service was prompt and friendly too. Solid coffee shop with good coffee, good food and yummy sweet treats. I would definitely come back here next time I'm in the Hampden area. read more

I visit this place EVERYTIME I go to Hampden. It's a great spot to get coffee or awesome muffins, that's what I go there for at least. They also serve sandwiches and other pastries. the people here are extremely rude for no reason. We placed a to go order and went to pick it up. No one was answering at the window, so my sister went up the stairs to see if she could get someone's attention. The worker snapped at her and told her to get off the stairs so someone could go out of the building?? When we paid they awkwardly asked us aloud how much to tip, when we didn't want to leave one due to their inconsiderate attitude.
