So I came here for the first time today and I was excited that there were so many places to sit. They have a bunch of tables inside as well as outside on the front patio deck area. I was disappointed that there was a homeless man just sitting inside talking to himself, another man asleep on the couch, and dirty tables. Someone literally left their muffin crumbs, wrapper and empty coffee cup... the audacity of some people. But other than that, it was a good experience. I got an iced coffee and the Ham Sandwich on a biscuit for breakfast. The biscuit was perfect! This coffee shop reminds me of the Daily Grind in Fells Point, which I love. Chaotic atmosphere. People go there for the whatever vibe it has. I had maybe two drinks and matchas that were okay, the rest sucked. Honestly, instant coffee and matcha made at home are so much better. The workers are apathetic and disorganized. I just moved to Baltimore - and Hampden - a few weeks ago, and I've already been to Common Ground several times. It's great to have such a great little coffeeshop and bakery in the neighborhood! I usually order on ChowNow, because the line to order can be pretty long (especially as they only allow one party/person in at a time to order due to COVID). You can order on the app or in person, but you pick up from the window either way - so if you order ahead you can just walk up to the window, tell them your name, and get your coffee quickly! I'm not a very adventurous coffee drinker; I'm a pretty loyal Americano drinker (hot or iced, depending on the weather), but their Americano is good. My family tried a few more creative coffee drinks, and they liked theirs as well. I also tried one of their Pride shortbread cookies that they're making this month for Pride; it was delicious. I'm a regular patron of Common Ground Bakery and Cafe, and have been for around a year. I live nearby and Common Ground quickly became one of my favorite neighborhood establishments. The coffee is great as well as the service and ambience. However, following a morning trip for breakfast with my friend, I was abruptly dealt extremely poor- if not hostile- service from an employee of Common Ground who has previously been rather cordial with me. After we received our breakfast, I went back to the counter to request more almond milk for my coffee. The person who served me seemed to slam the carton on the counter, then whipped around and stormed off. They seemed eager to get away. My friend and I were having a private conversation about Emma's candles (a seemingly new employee) on display, which we've found absurd since we first saw them, having previously known and been through tribulation with Emma. She previously tried to physically assault my partner and verbally abuse myself when we were formerly affiliated. After this account I ended any and all forms of communication with her. While my friend and I waited on our order we noticed Emma was working and immediately began to feel uneasy. This resulted in us laughing it off to ease the stress of seeing her and continued on our way after we received our food and beverage. After leaving the establishment I received a direct message, from Emma's personal Instagram, declaring that I am no longer welcome at Common Ground Bakery and Cafe (making me banned?). The message she sent can be reproduced if need be. This is unfortunate and quite frankly not only immature but also highly unprofessional. Upon receiving the direct message, I find it odd that my friend did not get banned as well, seeing as we were both apart of this unknown situation. I'm perplexed as to why an employee would deliver this information instead of a supervisor and or manager/owner. This is the cutest coffee shop. The owner was nice, sweet, knowledgeable. I loved my coconut latte. It had the perfect amount of foam and sweetness. And then dangerous chocolate chip.... DANGEROUS! It was sweet and massive. Literally the largest muffin I've ever seen. The place was a bit small for a group of people but it felt cozy. I struggled getting in and how because of how narrow the doorway is. We took some muffins to go and my wife got the largest breakfast sandwich that was on this fluffy fresh croissant! I am really a fan of common ground. However, they tend to turn off their online ordering whenever they are busy or short staffed. They do not allow telephone orders, which is frustrating, because they could just give you a time estimate if they are backed up instead of just refusing people to call in their order. read more

How Sweet!!!! I ordered a bag of coffee, a croissant, and a latte for preorder delivery for my best friend's Birthday. Speaking of slices, I got two of them for the Spinach Pie and side salad (instead of chips), with the world's thickest plum-colored balsamic vinaigrette that you literally (has Rob Lowe completely killed legitimate use of this word?) have to spread with a knife. Did I say huge slices? The server (you get on line to order) cooly steered me away from my original choice of gluten-free spinach and feta quiche as a better size and taste deal. This was a thicker phyllo (if that's the term) sandwiching beaucoup de spinach between--and easier and less messy to cut than thin phyllo pies of this sort (pet peeve). I tried a coffee place nearby and was disappointed with my drink so much so that I tossed it after only a few sips. I decided to try again with Common Ground and I'm so glad I did. When I walked through the door, the first thing I noticed was a substantial food and drink menu, with gluten free and vegan options. They also have multiple dairy free options for your coffee (score!). I got my coffee 50% off with my Yelp check in (yay), and ordered an iced latte with coconut syrup and oat milk. It was delicious. I also tried a chocolate mocha muffin which was gluten and dairy free and it was so good, large enough to share! The shop is small but there are a few tables to sit. Service was prompt and friendly too. Solid coffee shop with good coffee, good food and yummy sweet treats. I would definitely come back here next time I'm in the Hampden area. read more

the people here are extremely rude for no reason. We placed a to go order and went to pick it up. No one was answering at the window, so my sister went up the stairs to see if she could get someone's attention. The worker snapped at her and told her to get off the stairs so someone could go out of the building?? Common Ground is the perfect neighborhood cafe. I live down the main avenue and, when I am not working, I like to spend my mornings walking to Common Ground to enjoy an everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese and americano. The americano is a consistently tasty treat, they brew their espresso really well and no matter the variety in extraction that day, it tastes delicious. I like it when I get a mug, which is not the most important but for some reason it feels better to drink out of. Sometimes I'll get a chai instead and I think both of their chai options are wonderful. I like their masala one the best and I think it is the slightly 'spicier' option. I've had so many of their muffins, and used to get the vegan ones when I was vegan because they were the best non-dairy ones I'd ever had. Once I stopped being vegan, I tried some of the regular muffins, which were good but the gluten free and/or vegan options are just so much better! And they mix up the types of muffins they offer every day. The bagels are great, the vegetable cream cheese is a nice detail, and I also really enjoy their Nova Sandwich. Zeb, who works most of the days I end up in the shop, always makes it a point to greet me by name. Not something I normally care about or expect in any employee but he is so kind and intentional with his greetings and interactions. I'm not sure I've ever seen him have a bad day because he is just so personable and good at chatting. I certainly hope he only has good days because his warm welcomes make me feel appreciated in a way that I don't deserve haha. Honestly, all of their staff is exceptionally friendly. I'm bad with names and only remember Zeb's because he remembered mine so quick. But everyone has only been sweet and efficient. The manager is a really nice woman who lets me sass her and will give it back in a kind way, which I appreciate. It helps to be able to have real human interaction and not some food service show that seems stale. I end up getting my drink, at the longest and the busiest, within 3 minutes (seriously, it's impressive how quick). The food, understandably, might take a few minutes longer but I generally get my food within 5 minutes. The only struggle I have, especially as of late, is that it gets so crowded and there is such limited seating. It's not their fault, necessarily, they have as much seating as they can fit in the space. It's just such a cozy spot, so it totally makes sense that it would be crowded. It just makes me sad when I can't hang out! There are a decent amount of places to plug in computers and phones along the walls and their WiFi is always working smoothly for me. Food is pretty good - expensive and terrible baked goods but with tasty sandwiches - but the service is atrocious. One guy working the entire place on a crowded weekend morning? No one ever paying attention to the order window so you have to awkwardly wait to go in until the guy finally notices there's a line and starts serving the people behind you because you have to wait in line to go inside and they only do online orders from the second window? Are the owners really so greedy that they won't to pay more than one person to work peak hours?
