Come for the famous Chinese chicken salad, stay for the comfy ambiance. Sometimes the line is super long, but if you know what you're getting, go and grab it. Closed on Monday and Tuesday, also closes early. Always a great place to have brunch and spend the day in San Anselmo. Take a stroll around the Holidays, go to the local library, and check out the shops. Friendly neighborhood, dog-friendly, great vibes - so lucky to have Comforts nearby. 'Til next time ~ cheers and see you on Yelp (SYOY)!

You'll find Comforts on the main street in downtown San Alselmo. As others have stated, they are known for their Chinese chicken salad. So as a dutiful Yelper, of course I had to try it! When I was there, it looked like they were renovating the patio area so unfortunately the windows that adjoined the patio area were covered. Nonetheless, the ambiance is light and airy with interesting light fixtures. Prepare yourself for lots of chewing. The salad has all the elements of a good meal: protein, fiber, yumminess. Alas I bit into something hard and pokey. A clump of the rice noodles that would normally get deep fried into crispy and airy goodness had missed the frying pot. Instead it ended up embedded into the roof of my mouth. Ouch! Eating this could be an occupational hazard. Thankfully the rest of my salad was fine. The restaurant adjoins a deli area where you can buy said salad in bulk to take home. They also sell the dressing separately. Would be interested to try out other items from their menu next time.

Classic. I was here 40(?) years ago when their infamous Chinese chicken salad came in the scene. My grandma brought me. It may have been the first time I realized salad could be delicious enough to be the first choice for a meal Came today because we were in the area and felt like salad. Nostalgia aside, and now that I'm a "foodie" and used to awesome salads , I can say the salad is still great. It has a good balance of almonds and chicken taste and the chicken is cut about the same size as the nuts. I'd like some cabbage added for health. But yeah, a good salad Bathroom grade: A. 2 single serve rooms. Clean and bright with nice smelling soap

Really enjoyed the Chinese chicken salad. Service was quick and friendly. It can get busy, but I never felt rushed to finish my meal. I'd happily return.

One of my favorite parts of this shop/restaurant is the location!!! Down town San Anselmo is soo charming. Perfect for exploring and then stopping at comforts for a bite. We got the Chinese chicken salad as raved about on the internet (disclaimer: I don't love Chinese chicken salads I think they are good but like other salads better) BUT it was a really good chicken salad! The stand out dish is the French toast!! Pecan crusted and filled with some delicious custard! This made the meal worth it! They only serve breakfast until 12 btw! So crunchy and delicious. Service was fine. Nothing stand out but not a bad experience. We are outside and it was lovely. Indoor and outdoor options. Definitely will come back for the French toast!

Only half the small Chinese chicken salad it was huge and so good!

The food was awesomely dying in the dining room. The new remodel is amazing. Service was perfect. I only have one complaint. They have these fancy salt and pepper shakers on the table and it is so gross dirty. I don't even wanna touch it on the table next to me.

This was my first time coming to this particular restaurant and OMG it was so cute and quaint!! My brother and sister-in-law came here and said they have really good brunch and Boy where they right!! A lot of people were getting takeout items and apparently their construction/remodel just started the day before we arrived. Everything looked a little chaotic, but I guess they were pretty busy for a Sunday. I saw a number of customers walk by and then come back and ask if they were even open. After their response they were seated or got takeout! Lol I felt kind of bad for the employees working in such hard conditions, but they seemed to have everything pretty well organized even though they're walkway is a bit shorter and there's construction/plywood up all over the place as well as plastic tarps sectioning offered in areas. Lol we sat outside with our puppies and we were able to be seated and ordered/received our food within 10 minutes! I was actually a bit worried since I ordered the French toast and there was a sign on the menu stating it might take 15 minutes to make. I was very impressed with how speedy the service was!! I also wanted to order an iced coffee, but didn't get a chance to since the server seemed a little busy as well as the host who was trying to seat people and make sure the takeout customers were able to go inside to get their takeout, as well as dine in customers could get pastries from the takeout counter which was on the other side. It seemed as if they had two different registers inside, but maybe just getting into the swing of things or the new swing of temporary remodeling things caught the employees offguard? Nevertheless, I would love to go back to the place again and try more of their items since we loved the, fish tacos and the pecan crusted stuffed French toast!

Carmel bar - super thick layer of Carmel split 4 ways

Had lunch with a friend and brought home a bunch of sweet treats for the family. The rosemary chicken sandwich was wonderful- love the light airiness of the toasted sourdough. Solid sandwich - I'd come for lunch again The pastries however were a big let down. Not sure we would do pastries here. Apricot bar- had chopped diced firm dried apricots. In theory this may sound good, but the chunks of firm tart apricots was not to our liking. Wish they had reconstituted them or did a quick cook / breakdown for something soft and maybe sweeter. The oatmeal base - delicious. The raspberry strudel - looked amazing but the filling was made with frozen, bland berries. Hubby thought the topping was good. But this is going in the bin. Perhaps holding off on this variation until fruit is in season. Carmel bar - if you're craving Carmel - this is that!! Lots of Carmel on a shortbread crust. So rich we cut into quarters - not sure we would do this again personally. But if you love Carmel you should try. Coffee cake- was moist nice flavor and we enjoyed the following morning with our lattes. Total bill $47

They have a bit of everything here

I loved the ambiance here, it had a very chic vibe with modern decor. As always, I'm on the go so I grabbed the chicken salad, chicken parmigiana, macaroni & cheese and skipped the available sauce opting to just stick with the dressing which came with the salad. I liked this place and kinda wish I had just stuck with just the salad. The cold chicken and cold Mac & Cheese ruined the meal. I guess I was expecting them to heat those up and should have paid attention, my bad. I took the cold food home, heated them up and the taste improved exponentially.

I love this restaurant! My go to brunch place and it is reasonably priced. I love my French toast and their's is my favorite in all of Marin, keep in mind they only sell until 11am and then their lunch menu. The French toast is nice and fluffy with a pecan glaze and pecan pecan pieces, I love my pecans! The plate is worth ~$18 and a couple could comfortably eat for $40-50. They also cut a part for to go food if you dont want to stay long and it's really convenient, just take number and they will call you and you order.

My friend's parents use to order the Chinese Chicken Salad here, which I hear is the BEST! I have tried it and it IS good! Recently, I met up with a friend and stopped for brunch here. We got there at 10:30am and was able to get seated quickly. Had we waited another 1-1.5hrs, there would've been a wait. They have a good amount of seating inside and out. Place is clean and lively. Bakery area on one side; seating on the other. The service was ok. Our waitress took my friend's drink order and didn't even bother to ask me what I wanted and was about to walk away until my friend told her to wait. She would check up on us; but she didn't stop to ask, it was in passing. However, I noticed she was the only person waiting on all the tables outside. I feel for the workers (esp after the pandemic); so overall, she was great for the number of tables she had to wait on! The food was great. I had the mushroom and polenta with my eggs sunny side up. This was SO good and filling. I'd order this again next time I come back! Also, I had a vanilla latte w/soy milk. It was good but not as great as the coffee roastery just a few blocks down. Overall, I would definitely come back here again. I wanted to try their scones as I heard it's the best; but, I was so full that I had to pass on it.

Do they still make chocolate covered sunflower seeds? 🌻 🍬

Good question, I picked up a bag last time in, but that was awhile ago

Does anyone know if Comforts cooks their burgers over open flame / grill? I definitely prefer flame…

I prefer mine the same way and enjoy their burgers. Haven't been in the kitchen, but based on eating experience, I say open flame. I'll go this week and eat one to be sure :)

Tye, our server, was friendly and kind and on top of refilling waters, offering drink suggestions, and grabbing to-go boxes before we even asked for them! I had the chicken parmigiana, which was light and flavorful, and the steamed spinach that went with it was delicious (and I HATE cooked spinach, but gave it a try and actually enjoyed it for the first time ever!) The andouille sausage that was served with the pesto risotto was smoked and you could really taste it, and the spicyness was just perfect. The pesto sauce was heavy on the pine nuts in the best way. It wasn't oily or heavy on the basil or garlic like a lot of pesto sauces can be, and that left the risotto so light and almost citrusy. My cousin had the harvest garden dish, and they were stunned by how delicious it was. As a vegetarian, they are particular about their veggies, but everything was 'perfectly cooked'. At the end of the meal we were surprised by the panna cotta with the fruit remoulade, which we devoured in like three minutes haha! We really enjoyed all of the food, the service, and the ambiance. There was plenty of outdoor seating, but inside felt pretty cramped. I ordered the crawfish omelette, expecting fresh crawfish sautéed with onions, cilantro, and garlic (you're welcome for the free menu idea ). Instead, it arrived as a basic omelette stuffed with crawfish gumbo. The whole thing tasted oddly sweet--almost dessert-like, which wasn't what I wanted for breakfast. The only silver lining? I take my latte unsweetened anyway, so at least I didn't have to stress about my blood sugar spiking too much. Service was a little chaotic; they seemed short-staffed with just one server hustling between the patio and indoors. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the crawfish omelette. That said, I'm not totally writing the place off--I'd come back to try a different breakfast dish.

Having visited New Orleans earlier this year, I was so excited to try this place! As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was transported back to NOLA! There were beads hanging and Mardi Gras decorations throughout the restaurant. Since it was a weekday, there was no wait and we had our choice of sitting inside or out. We opted for inside. Our server was warm and friendly, bringing us water promptly. We started off with an order of beignets. It arrived with three big pieces. They were freshly fried and doused in powdered sugar. So good! My daughter ordered the chicken and waffles, while I decided to try the everything gumbo. The chicken and waffles was huge! It came with several pieces of fried chicken that was topped with freshly minced garlic and came with a homemade spicy sauce. My daughter loved it! I tried a bite and thought it was tasty as well. She ended up taking half of it home. The everything gumbo was also delicious! It was a little thin in my opinion, but the flavor was amazing! It was truly authentic and I could taste all the seafood that was in it. I finished my entire bowl! Unlike the chicken and waffle, it was appropriately sized. When I went to pay the bill, there was a sign that said "free beignets if you pay cash." So of course, I paid our bill in cash! Luckily, I had enough cash on me. Can't pass up a deal like that! All in all, it was a very enjoyable meal! If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely go back to The Hummingbird!

Amelie Cafe and Wine Bar continues the tradition and I'm not mad about it. With outposts in both San Francisco and New York City, Amelie sports a nice pedigree. The Fairfax location is dialed down a bit - perfect for the neighborhood it serves - and makes for a comfortable place to enjoy any meal however you might happen to appear that day. It's a simple cafe and, though not inexpensive, certainly less so than a trip to Paris. Two of us recently dined here, late afternoon on a weekend, sharing a burger ($23; comes with fries and a salad), a lager ($8; they have no IPA), and boquerones, the latter of which I fully regretted having to share. Whenever I see boquerones ($12) on a menu I cannot look away and in Marin, finding such an offering is a unicorn. Delicious; I might sneak back over solo just to enjoy them again. The burger and fries were also good, with a profile a bit different than what one would get at a non-French-centric spot. Amelie is a good place to drop in before or after a movie or a show in Fairfax and equally wonderful to pop into for a morning coffee drink or an afternoon glass of wine. Extremely Disappointed -- Terrible Food & Worse Customer Service…read more I've been coming here for months and have even brought family and friends because I genuinely wanted to support this business. But the past few visits, our orders have constantly been always mess ups, and today was honestly the last straw. How do you serve food looking like this and think it's acceptable? The quality was awful, the presentation was sloppy, and the whole meal was disappointing. When I asked for my order to be remade, they said "okay" and told me I could keep the food. So naturally, I waited assuming an entirely new order was being made... only for them to bring out ONE pancake. Seriously? What kind of customer service is that? It's frustrating because I've continuously supported this place and recommended it to others, just to be treated like this. Instead of properly accommodating a loyal customer, they handled the situation carelessly and made it seem like my complaint didn't matter at all. At this point, I honestly wouldn't recommend coming here. The service has gone downhill, the orders are constantly wrong, and management clearly doesn't care about fixing issues the right way. Completely ridiculous. Look at the before picture once I first started compared to now... like come now... absurd! Literally could've went to Denny's... smh!
