We stopped in this morning on our return trip and my husband and I were not disappointed! He ordered the turkey egg Mcmuffin with a cup of dark roast coffee while I had the croissant ham and egg and a cup of mocha. All were well-made and tasty! Very nice service and outside patio to enjoy. But the as advertised crossaint breakfast sandwich for $12 was disappointing. Instead of actual slices of bacon there were only a few tiny microwaved pieces of bacon bits sprinkled on the fluffy scrambled eggs and cheddar bits. I've only had their coffee and pastries (berry and chocolate muffin - delish) and I'm very impressed at the quality. Their coffee is very flavorful, and their cafe au lait (coffee with steamed milk) is strong in the best way. The location is super cute and there's lots of parking. Restrooms are clean. I hope to go back to try some of their lunch options, as they have a great kids menu that I think my 6 year old son would love. Disappointment! They swapped out their homemade chips with low quality bulk chips. We have had several good experiences here, close to our home and convenient on occasion. My pregnant wife and I were feeling like takeout so we decided on Trailhead, it has been consistent to this point. We got two sandwiches and their nachos, which used to come with house-made potato chips that were really good and made this place stand out to us. Looks like they abandoned those delicious chips and have decided to buy stale bulk low-quality chips. In my opinion, a poor business choice, I would rather have prices go up and pay for quality than see a business reduce quality. The people of Marin want quality and are willing to pay for it. We come here every Sunday now. The space is huge with multiple bright areas to get cozy and a lovely outside spot where you can sit and look up at the mountain. The espresso is always excellent. On par with specialty roastery coffee shops in my opinion. They offer a variety of milk options too. We always get the breakfast burrito which is excellent. They grill it and the ingredients are fresh. It comes with a generous serving of fresh made salsa that is crazy delicious. As an avid hiker I find the outdoorsy vibe to be delightful as well. read more

Came here again Sunday morning with my boyfriend. Whoever took our order was on it and very welcoming. I got a sausage egg burrito and the same order of my iced matcha (oat milk + sweetened with honey). He ordered a warm Oat chai. I had no issues with my sausage egg burrito, it was absolutely delicious and filling! It came with a spicy salsa which added a nice kick. I did have issues with my matcha. It definitely depends on who makes it! I was looking forward to having one again because of how awesome it was made last time but this time, it was not good. The matcha wasn't mixed well so the drink was gritty and it was too milky that the matcha flavor wasn't there. My boyfriend has a sensitivity to whole milk so he orders oat milk. Once he got his drink, he had me try and compare it to my drink because we both had ordered oat milk. The person who made his Chai had added whole milk rather than oat milk. I really like this concept , the vibes are very welcoming & the beer is legit ! Reading other reviews , I do have the sense that we just never have ordered the right thing . The pretzel w melted cheese seems like a natural pairing with good cold suds , we did like it , only enough to eat half . Two people should have been able to easily finish it . We also had the spicy nuts , 7 bucks too much , they were stale . Lastly we had the Caesar Salad , just old lettuce and not good . Any place that serves a good Caesar , I am pretty much hooked , it's a simple salad , but must be done in a way that as u are finishing , u are thinking , when can I have this again ? All the customers seem like regulars and all seem so enthusiastic, The only beers we have tried are Fieldwork , amazing beer , I love this brewery , that's why 4 stars . Really the beer is most definitely 5 stars . We see them on door dash & I have not tried any breakfast items , we did try a cookie and again , it seemed stale ? They were doing outdoor pizzas , which was buzzy And not bad at all ! The outside is maintained nicely & the inside as well Lots a bike riders frequent this place . I really wanted to like this place. I have visited six times in total, once for a happy hour type of visit, and the rest of the visits have been various mornings after hiking on Mt. Burdell. The location is excellent as it's on my way home from the trailhead. I usually order a smoothie, but have had the avocado toast. Sometimes the smoothie is frozen and well blended, other times it has been soupy with chunks of fruit. The avocado toast has been good. I have concern about cleanliness/sanitation in the food prep area. It appears to me that gloves are not a requirement of food prep staff. And more than once I have observed the person making my drink to use their bare hand to handle ingredients, the same hand I just observed wiping down a counter with a rag. I'm surprised I haven't developed an intestinal issue. I have returned, always hoping for a better experience, because when the smoothie is made right it is very good! But last Sunday was my last visit unfortunately. Too many other options in town. read more

When I researched cozy coffee shops, I found Trailhead in Novato. I was so impressed! Its's the biggest and coziest coffee shop I've ever been to. It was cool to explore and see so many nooks and crannies to sit. The only thing was that the cool looking couch in the front entrance area was surrounded by flies. I sat there for 5 minutes and got tired of swatting. Could be that the trash bins by the front door were the cause of a bad time. Other than that, I loved the half moon booths in the back seating area. The OG salad was so filling and exactly what I expected from a typical delicious cobb salad. I did ask for some foam on the chai latte but the staff didn't seem to know what I was talking about and so I enjoyed a regular chai latte as it comes -- don't expect above and beyond here. Menu Change...they used to have house made chips that made their dishes stand out. Last time we ordered some sandwiches and an order of their nachos expecting to get like we have in the past. We were disappointed to open the nachos and not have their house made chips as the base and even worse they were substituted with cheap STALE tortilla chips. The sandwiches had just your regular chips instead but the nachos really made a big difference in the overall dish. Will not be ordering from here again unfortunately. The main reason we had even placed an order from there was for their nacho dish that had previously been very delicious is now not worth it. I do not like sweet coffee this was so good just a hint of sweet and enough ube flavor to let you taste all the components..I really love this Latte..I loved my breakfast sandwich and old fashioned Maple donut..The service, we had the nicest young lady help us..So upbeat and just had a really good energy I forgot to get her name, reddish short hair, white leggings..Ty for being our server you made the visit even better, even places with awesome food can make a person cringe if there's bad service.. This is the kind of place you'd eat while stuck at the airport at 10pm for a layover. They have a kitchen, technically, but the vast majority of the items come premade out of a refrigerator. My company orders lunch weekly and today we tried the newly opened Trailhead. While it's not the kind of place I would choose to eat at, I enjoyed what I got. The packaging for to go orders is cute. There's not a lot of menu options, but there's something for everybody's taste. I got the lobster roll which is pricy for a sandwich but it's filled to the brim with fresh lobster. There's different parts of the lobster in the sandwich and has multiple textures. It was a refreshing flavor, not sure how describe otherwise. The bread they have is really good and I'm very particular about bread since it's not my preferred carb. My coworker who picked up the order said they spoke to the owner for a while and he was really friendly and thankful for the large (10+ people) order. So excited to see this place! The plaza needed a coffee place and we walked in for the first time tonight around 7:30PM and was pleasantly surprised to discover what Trailhead offers. I opted for the Cortado which is half milk & half espresso. I requested to add sugar-free vanilla syrup to it and it was delicious. A great little evening pick-me-up before we headed home after a dinner night out. I met Brad while waiting for my order and he was super nice. They offer a nice selection of canned alcohol and wine as well. I hope they stay so let's support Trailhead! Their hours are 6:00AM to 8:00PM. So happy they are going to try to stay open longer than when Starbucks previously occupied this space. Sometimes I crave a little coffee in the evening on the way home. read more

Wonderful to see this shopping center revitalizing itself and this is a great addition to help anchor the space. Whoever envisioned a coffee and beer brew spot hit it right on. I only imagine that staffing those long hours could be tough at time but I hope I'm wrong. It's been a great hang out spot morning and evening this summer. My UNSWEETENED almond milk latte was right on! I've often gotten Equator lattes like this at Equator and they've had that bitter/sour after taste. This was smooth as silk and as it should be. I greatly appreciate the unsweetened milk since sugar and I don't see eye to eye. Menu seems big enough and I will jump into food at a future time. Staff is friendly and settling in. About 10 draft craft beer choices plus cans to choose from and a decent non-coffee, non-alcohol menu too. Hopefully the beer menu will change often enough to keep it interesting. Cozy spot that really drives the community of San Marin. Much needed gathering place for all ages. I am here often, and am proud that we have a cafe within walking distance that serves great snacks, beer, and coffee. The owner goes out of his way to make you feel welcome, never too busy to stop for a chat. Equator coffee is served and every coffee drink tastes luxe because they use high quality ingredients. My usual is a latte with whole milk. I haven't had a bad meal here - my favorite are the Pliny Beer Cheese bites. The only thing holding me back from a 5th star is that they don't love when you customize breakfast sandwiches, but as a vegetarian vs vegan I just want to remove the meat off of one of the meat options (ok to pay full price). I'm also not a lover of fake meat so their veggie options are not as enticing for me personally since they're centered around these products. I usually go for something off of their "bites" menu or a panini - which is always next level. Great place to go with or without kids - plenty of room inside and out. I'd probably be here every day if the prices were a bit more economical - they are aligned with a sit down restaurant in town ($12-15 for a sandwich). The ingredients are very high quality and there are always a lot of folks on staff so it's not without reason. Very grateful to have this place here and I hope to see it continue to thrive - as it brings life to our sleepy hillside. read more

The best thing about Trailhead is it's walking distance from my house. Oyster Thursday is a fantastic reason to go! Grilled oysters in garlic butter or a spicy bbq sauce are unreal. We had 2 dozen. Probably could have had more. The appetizer menu is really good. Roasted feta cheese with crackers and roasted shishito peppers with a fabulous dipping sauce. Holy moly. I don't drink beer or wine and it would be nice if they had a full liquor license. At least something like canned vodka drinks etc. Such a fun local place! read more

Ordered the Mediterranean Salad today and was extremely disappointed. The couscous was cold and lumpy instead of fluffy, the felafels were unrecognizable with no flavor and the entire dish was refrigerated too long before it was served to me. I asked to speak to the manager to give constructive criticism and was told there was no manager on duty. The most insulting part was the price of $16.50 an outrageous price for such a poorly tasting salad. read more

Let's start with the welcoming patio that is clean, and welcomes at table ordering for folks with dogs. I am in the habit of leaving my dog in the car while I order, pick up my food and get situated at my table, then going to get my dog, but you can order from your table - which I didn't know until I got here. I love that. When I got to the counter I was warmly welcomed by the staff at the register, I was given a recommendation and the veggie breakfast burrito was delicious, along with one of the best chai lattes I've had in a long time. Went to Trailhead last nite for their "Smashburger". Saw it advertised as the Monday special. Was not disappointed as it not your typical fast food or restaurant burger. Cooked just outside the front door, it was as though it was cooked on your backyard BBQ. Generously served with fresh onions, tomato and lettuce and a side of Tailhead's home made potato chips. We paired our burgers with a well poured glass of Walt Sonoma Coast 2020 Chardonnay.
