Don't let this quiet kinda tucked away restaurant fool you! For a long time, I've only picked up banh mi (sandwiches) from here which are always great and stuffed. Today I decided to visit and have lunch there. I ordered the banh hoi thit nuong and tom nuong (grilled beef and shrimp with vermicelli rice sheets). It reminds me of home cooking. The seasoning was perfect and the green onion oil used on the banh hoi (vermicelli rice sheets) was subtle was a perfect balance of bringing the entire dish together. The vegetables was fresh and great but I wish I had more of it (but I do eat a lot of vegetables with my meals). My friend got the bun bo hue and as soon as it hit our table I could tell by the aroma it was amazing. He said it's the best he has had in Houston. I'll be back for another visit soon.

It was the weekend and I just wanted some Vietnamese food. My boyfriend and I came here to try their food since we were also going to go to the market in the same plaza. When we came in, it wasn't too busy but there were a few guests sitting and eating or finishing up their meal. We sat down at a table and the waiter provided us menus once we picked a table. He gave us some time to look over the menu and then came back to take our order. I ordered Mi Bo Kho and my boyfriend ordered Com Tam with beef. We also asked for waters. We also ordered spring rolls for appetizers. However, our food came out before our spring rolls came out. The spring rolls were alright, mostly filled with noodles instead of meat but still good. The Mi Bo Kho was on the sweeter side, and it barely had any meat in it. There were probably only 5 small chuncks of meat which was disappointing. My boyfriend said his food was alright. He has had better but the meat was flavourful. The rice was alittle dry so using the fish sauce definitely helped and he had to ask for more. The utensils weren't originally provided to us until the waiter saw my boyfriend lift up his bowl of soup to drink it then he came over to provide a spoon to him. But by that time he was done with his meal so he declined the spoon. I might come back but try something else on the menu instead. Pricing isn't too bad and it's got alot of space for groups of 6+ to sit together. It can get loud because there's an echo in the restaurant.

Came in on a Tuesday afternoon before my flight out of Houston and happened across this restaurant that was aptly named after one of my favourite vietnamese rice dishes. It was not too packed, and I was able to get a table by the window overlooking the busy plaza. The owners are a friendly vietnamese couple, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered a vietnamese coffee (ca phe sua da), the BBQ pork vermicelli (bun thit nuong cha gio), a broken rice house special with pork chop (com tam thap cam suon) and one of the owners recommended the rice flour egg pancake (banh bot chien). Everything tasted delicious and appeared carefully made. I previously read this place can get really busy on weekends, which can be the bane of any restaurants existence as they can get very busy but today was a mellow day and I was able to enjoy a hearty lunch in a relaxed restaurant some decent views along the Sam Houston 249.

We came here for dinner after going to grocery store. The owner is very nice and sweet. We all ordered com tam since it was our first time here. The meat was very tender and egg cake was delicious. The price is very reasonable. We will come back to try other dishes.

They have a BBQ section now.

We would give this place a ZERO rating if we could. Terrible service, horrible food. We ate here once before and didn't remember the experience, then today I was craving for Broken Rice, which is its namesake, so thought we'd give it another shot. Upon entering, we saw several tables, so we thought it was a good sign. Some employees were cleaning tables, some ladies were running around cashier area, but no one greeted us. We walked up to an employee and asked if we could sit anywhere. After sitting, one of the young waiters handed us some menus and walked off. Shortly after, a woman came by and asked if we wanted to order. As she was talking to us, she was pacing and looking at other tables. It seemed like she was ready to walk away because we were not giving our orders fast enough. We got 2 Durian Smoothies with Boba, 2 Special Pho noodle soups, 1 special Banh Mi and a Broken Rice Combo plate. The Broken Rice (Com Tam) plate came out first, then the Banh Mi. The rice and everything on the plate did not look fresh; I touched the rice and it was barely warm. Thit Nuong and Cha were dry and definitely re-heated in microwave. The egg was overcooked, dry, and had no yolk left. The Banh Mi barely had any meat and filling it in. The Pho Noodle Soup was probably the worst we've ever had in a restaurant in Houston. The broth was dark, had no flavor and tasted like bad watered down stock. The Durian Smoothies came out last and they were the brightest, most yellow Durian Smoothies we've ever seen. After taking a sip, it's apparent it was mostly coloring and artificial flavoring and no signs of real durian fruit in the drinks. On top of horrible food and terrible service, they never once came back once to check on us or food. They were standing around chatting and did not pay attention to customers at all. They had no napkins at table of anywhere in sight. We had to go to the restroom to get paper towels. We will never ever return and would not recommend this place to anyone.

Either they changed the recipe or ran out of pork and the big prawns that usually have. It is now made with ground pork and small shrimps.

Oh no! The grande deliciousness of the banh xeo made me review them positively, despite their attitude towards lettuce cleanliness. I just ate here yesterday and found that the recipe is different now. Instead of large prawns and pieces of pork they use ground pork and little shrimps now. It wasn't as crispy either. Plenty of oil but it wasn't cooked on high enough heat so the oil soaked into the batter. We don't notice the familiar old owner here. Perhaps they changed ownership? Might not come here anymore, rather go grab banh xeo from a place that makes it crispy and per my usual.

With so many great Vietnamese noodles houses in the vicinity, Com Tam falls short when it comes to food and service. The location is the what this place has going for it. It is located next to a Vietnamese gambling "cafe" Tell tale signs are tinted windows, flocks of middle aged Vietnamese men, and dressing up as a coffee house. A lot of hungry gamblers drop by for a break. Our waitresses were young women, probably high school aged. The service they provided was well, confusing. One one come over, try to take our order, and then a few seconds later, another would try to take our order. Apparently there are not assigned sections. There is either a tip pool going on, or they do not keep their tips... Not sure which because we kept getting both girls stopping by our table. One girl dropped off some napkins for the table, except that she dropped off one napkin... for two people. Erm... no. Anyway, onto the food. The menu is very typical for a Vietnamese establishment... not as much variety as other places. We ordered the Mi bo kho, bun rieu, and eggrolls. The crispy eggrolls were the best part of the meal. One order comes with four and a one giant lettuce leaf. The filling was very tasty. Could eat a few orders of these as a meal, and I would be happy. The mi bo kho was okay... not horrible, but definitely not up to par with some of competition nearby. While the flavor was good, it was missing some of that deep aroma I love in a good beef broth. As a general rule, if I have to add a lot of condiments to the broth, it's not as good as it could be, and I did doctor it up a bit. The bit of sweetness was pleasant though. The bun rieu was not good at all. While you could taste the nice crabby flavor, the soup itself was on the bland side, and after a dousing of salt, it was still just not very good, which is a shame because this is one of my favorite soup dishes. Left not very satisfied, but it wasn't the worst I have ever had. Try one of the many other noodles houses close by for a real treat.

Their bánh khọt was crispy, sweet and savory, and went well with the fish sauce. Although the portions initally look small, they are very filling. The bò né was filling and sizzling when it came out. It also came with a side of salad. The meat was tender. I really liked the bánh khọt and would definitely come back for them. I couldn't have been more wrong. Xeo Yum (#1) as it turns out is one of the most legit Vietnamese places in Midtown serving up some of the city's best banh xeo and banh khot. Located inside of a Food Hall (#2) in the back corner, they have low-key become a destination and without question, the most popular stall in the entire place. The fan base didn't happen overnight but is a direct result of Chef Cuong Nguyen's commitment to quality Vietnamese fare. Banh Xeo is their signature item, which is also known as a sizzling crepe or pancake made of rice flour, tumeric, and coconut milk. The banh xeo holds well, is perfectly crispy, and is nicely stuffed with an assortment of beans sprouts, shrimp, and some of the best grilled pork belly I've had. Another specialty item that doesn't get enough mention is their banh khot, which is similar but has a mini muffin / cupcake like appearance made in a specialty cast iron mold. This version is wonderfully crispy and pairs perfectly with fresh greens and fish sauce with some funk. It is my favorite item here. Some have argued they also serve one of the best bo ne (#3), the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs served in a skillet. The chunks of beef are nice and tender with just a tad of char, served with two fried eggs, and a banh mi baguette with a mix of butter and spare. Normally I think of spam or sausage included with the meats, but Chef Cuong's spin is with cherry tomatoes. It's a different approach and I'm not mad at it. Folks not looking for this can shoot for bo luc lac, aka shaking beef, which is also recommended. The staff here is sweet, hard-working, and very friendly. They also make a mean Vietnamese coffee and offer free iced self-serve water. The prices are what I would expect in a Midtown food hall, and there's plenty of seating. Anyone checking out the food hall need to make Xeo Yum as part of their eating itinerary. __________ (#1) A play on the Vietnamese sizzling crepe, Banh "xeo" and yum" (#2) Previously the Conservatory and now Stestí Food Hall. When I arrived there was nobody dining in the restaurant, that was a bit worrying, but I figured it was a bit early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd. Food & Drink - 4.5* First up was the noodles, I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't say the hype I'd heard about from some others was there. They had nice flavor, but there just wasn't anything "special." 3.5* Then it was on to the crawfish, and my oh my. Superb, the flavor is delicious and unique. This more than made up for the noodles dish. The potato and corn was good too. Service - 5* Solid. When I first arrived the owner was quietly reading a newspaper and eating his own lunch. He paused to greet me and advised that I could sit anywhere. He provided water and adequate time to determine what I wanted to order. The food came out quickly and he checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok. As time went by, the crowd of folks showing up increased quite a bit and he still managed to check in on tables consistently. Pricing - 4* This is where it was odd. Always subjective but I found the noodles to be overpriced for not only the size but what I felt was a pretty simple dish. The crawfish on the other hand was priced very competitively and made up for the overpriced noodles. I provided pics of the menu for someone to make their own assessment but in general I thought many of the dishes were pricier than they probably should be. I know inflation is certainly killing many businesses and consumers but even these felt a bit off. Overall - 4.5* This is definitely going to be one of my go tos for crawfish when in the area. The flavor is fantastic, the pricing is good, the size of them were solid. There are a couple of other dishes I may try on the next visit. We were reseated after spotting a cockroach under our table. But even so I would come back to have this amazing food any day.

The service was good, the ambience is super casual but the menu was phenomenal. They had artichoke and salmon pho! I clearly love a good pho and I was all for it! I got the artichoke pho with chicken and it was a 10/10!!! I wish this spot was in Atlanta where I live. I would most definitely be a regular. The fried rice and green beans chicken was awesome too. It was a 10/10 full flavor bomb. recommend.

There is a mural of Vietnamese landscape and an aquarium of arwanas. We started with mango salad with grilled pork and papaya salad with shrimp. Both dishes came with sweet and sour dressing. Mango was sweet and grilled pork was yummy. Papaya salad was fresh and a bit more subtle. We also ordered the fresh spring rolls. The old Saigon rolls came with mango and pork. Always liked mangoes. The other was regular fresh spring rolls with shrimp. The rolls came out last after when we got our Pho. Would have enjoyed it more if it came after the salads. I ordered the combination Pho with all the ingredients (brisket, eye round, tendon, meatball and tripe)a. There is only one size. There was a lot of noodles for the size of the bowl. They were generous with the meat. Wish they would have more soup. The soup itself was ok. Thought it was a little bland compared to others. Service was quick. It didn't take long to receive our order. They offer reusable wooden chopsticks. Will plan to try the other dishes other than Pho like rice plates next time.

My friends ordered the filet mignon and the chicken and they were equally as impressed! I ordered the espresso mousse for dessert which comes out in the shape of a coffee bean. Cuteeee and perfect! This is a higher end fine dining restaurant so you should expect the portion sizes and price to be pretty comparable to a lot of other finer dining restaurants. Overall the food's flavor was fantastic. I ordered the king salmon clay pot. I thought the salmon was so tasty! They added pepper and sauce to the salmon - It was tender and flavorful and paired nicely with white rice. The quail (not pictured below) also was super flavorful and was cooked so well it tasted like beef. The soup was also light and refreshing, similar to a west lake soup. It was thicker consistency and had cilantro and chucks of lobster. The drinks served were also super balanced. We ordered the mojito and the dragon fruit cocktail. The mojito was the right balance between minty and sweet with just a hint of alcohol flavor. For the dragon fruit cocktail, it was very fruity, on the sweeter side but not overpowering and was topped with egg whites to give it a little bit of frothiness. I will say, we are slightly underdressed to enter this establishment. Everything seemed so luxurious and many people were in formal business wear! Keep this in mind if you go! There is a parking deck right next to the location as well, both self parking and valet!
