Colonial Cafe has been around forever. A staple in Naperville. My family came here every Sunday after church my entire childhood. I live across the country now, but stopping here is mandatory when I'm in town. The wait staff are as nice as they always have been, the food is delicious, the ice cream is even better! Hehe! They have really updated the place while keeping the charm it always had.

I have a lot of fond memories of Colonial ice cream, so on a recent trip to Chicago, we decided to get a quick meal and treat ourselves to some of their delicious ice cream. Boy, were we surprised. The food was delicious! My husband ordered the chicken and waffles, and said it was the best he had ever had. The chicken was crisp and juicy, and the waffles were soft and tasty. The chipotle butter, maple syrup, and pieces of bacon complemented the dish. I had the onion soup, and it was rich and tasty, and covered with a layer of toasted cheese. It really hit the spot. Then came the ice cream, which lived up to expectations. I had a two-scoop turtle sundae with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, caramel, and pecans. I was disappointed they didn't have any butter pecan ice cream, but I quickly got over it. The place has a cozy, old-fashioned ice cream parlor feel, and the staff was friendly and quick to help. Prices are reasonable for the portions, and it's a fun stop whether you're with family, friends, or just treating yourself.

Quick service, big portions, and clean! The food is tasty too - good diner food, and their cinnamon roll pancakes taste just like cinnamon rolls. Great spot for families with kids.

Everything was clean, tasty and inviting! Service tends to be on the slower side, but all our requests were attentively taken care of (except for "gravy on the side" - we got gravy on the side, but also gravy on top... my poor lactose intolerant hubby)

When my kids were little, we came here often. I mean ice cream and burgers are a kid's dream dinner. This isn't going to be a mind blowing meal, but for little ones it's great. Edward Hospital is really close by. Eons ago, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and we left the hospital, baby in tow, and stopped at Colonial Cafe because I had no food at home. Baby tucked safely in her carrier with a blanket over her, so no one would breathe on her. I always think of that day when I drive by. The food is mid. The ice cream is mid. Not bad by any means, but not out of this world. This place is iconic in Naper though. It's been around for ages and kids love it. Recently, my daughter came home for a visit and we'd been shopping at TJ's which shares the same parking lot. On a nostalgic whim, we decided to eat there so she could relive her childhood. Besides better buns, it hasn't changed at all and I hadn't been there in close to 15 yrs. We all had burgers except for my youngest who daringly ordered salmon. I questioned her judgment in ordering salmon at Colonial Cafe, but she swore she liked it. I guess I'll have to take her word for it. I'd return if one of my kids requested it. It's not a date night for adults though.

Fresh Baked Meatloaf (After 4 Pm)

Pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I had the meatloaf served after 4pm with corn and mashed potatoes. The portion size was great. It included three mini meatloafs. I liked the spiced ketchup they included. It also came with cornbread and honey butter. Delicious! I would get this meal again! Kids meals were very affordable. My son had chicken nuggets with broccoli. It came with milk or choice of drink. My son was very happy with his meal. We were eyeing all the sundaes coming out. I definitely want to come back for dessert!

Steak and eggs

Steak and eggs were a delight only $24.99! In addition to their pancakes which we do huge. And the server was very attentive and friendly. I can't wait to come back and try their omelette! I love their spuds. Perfectly cooked roasted spuds.

Swedish Crepes, Breakfast Burrito

We have heard SOOO much about Colonial Cafe from our local Napervillers so we knew we had to check it out!! Ended up going for breakfast today, Sunday morning, with no reservations. We probably waited only for 15-20 minutes, which was great! We ordered Swedish crepes combo and a breakfast burrito for 2 people! If you're thinking of trying the breakfast burrito, let me say that it's definitely shareable! It comes with TONS of potatoes and beans on the side!! The burrito has chorizo, chicken, cheese, eggs, avacado, and so much other good stuff! Pair it with some hot sauce and you've got the perfect bite! The flavors were so amazing - the sauce on top of the burrito was perfectly tangy and flavorful! The Swedish crepes were unfortunately not as great as we were expecting. Even though the portion size was great, the crepes felt a little over cooked, and the lingerberry topping was not as flavorful as we expected. We did get the Nutella crepes to go which were a lot better but again, we have definitely had more flavorful crepes in the area. Overall, had a pretty good experience for our first time. If I were to come again, the burrito would definitely be my go to!

Parking was not bad at the time we arrived but it can get obnoxiously packed. I like the Downers Grove one because they have their own parking lot. We were seated immediately even though it was starting to get busy. They have a lot of seating inside. Our waitress was very attentive and sweet. I ordered the stuffed breakfast biscuit and it came with farmhouse potatoes. When you cut into the biscuit, you'll find bacon, scrambled eggs, and cheese. The biscuit itself was soft to cut and I liked the gravy. My cousin ordered the strawberry crepe and my girlfriend ordered the fried green tomato benedict. The portion sizes are enormous, you could make two meals out of this. I would say the prices are fair since they do give you a lot of food. If you find them expensive, Denny's and Ihop are cheaper alternatives. Everything was delicious. I forgot to mention but I recommend getting the strawberry orange juice. You won't regret it.

The reservation process has also vastly improved after the transitioned to a new system. As for the food. We get the kids menu options which our kids love (chicken tenders and grilled cheese). I usually do the stuffed biscuit but this time decided to try their special skillet with beef and Brussels sprouts! It was hearty and I would recommend! I asked them to make eggs with olive oil and they were able to accommodate this! My husband got the fried chicken skillet which he has ordered many times before. The honey butter pancakes are our favorite and we usually upgrade that side to this variety. Service was quick and friendly - I continue to recommend Buttermilk!

We sat in a corner booth area which was perfect for us because we have a very active 1 year old plus diaper bag, car seat etc.. it was spacious and perfect for our size family. The food was very very tasty! I will include pictures in my review so you can see for yourselves. My daughter said her pancake and eggs were so fluffy and delicious ^-^ and her bacon the perfect crispness. My chilaquiles were the perfect amount of mild spiciness. I am glad I chose the red sauce over the green because they were Delicious!! They come with a side of rice and beans that tasted very authentic also. The avocado was the perfect ripeness and so creamy! My husband's house potatoes and biscuits and gravy were also great. He really liked the gravy and asked for a side of it because he likes extra gravy on his biscuits. We also ordered the Nutella crepes and they tasted pretty good. They had a hint of cinnamon in the crepe mix so keep that in mind, next time I think we will ask to exclude it now that we know. Still they were very good We will for sure be back again!

From the moment we checked in, the room had no hot water. We contacted the front desk and were told to let it run. It never got hot. About an hour later, we realized the heat was not working either. We contacted the front desk again and explained that we would be leaving around 6:00 PM for New Year's Eve plans and would not return until after 1:00 AM, giving the hotel over six hours to resolve both issues. Maintenance came by and assured us everything would be fine. It was not. We returned around 1:20 AM, went to sleep, and woke up around 8:00 AM to a freezing room reading 52 degrees. The outside temperature that night was about 12 degrees. There was still no heat and no hot water. We contacted the front desk again and immediately checked out. Despite the room being unlivable and unsafe, management told us they would not issue a refund or credit. No heat. No hot water. No accountability.
