I was invited by one of my friends to have lunch with him and his buddy. I ordered the Thursday lunch special, Chopped Steak Entree. I got a dinner roll, a very loaded baked potato with butter, bacon, chives and a dollop of sour cream. I also ordered a Coke-zero. The service was wonderful and refills were quickly available to our table. The potato was huge and the steak came with a generous layer of grilled mushrooms, sliced onions and green peppers. Updating my review from 5 stars to 1. Wish I could give zero to this terrible restaurant. We were dining last night, with my parents and sister. One set of food came out and nothing else for 10 mins. Very odd because it always comes out at once. My wife's chicken fajitas came out and the rice and the chicken were cold. The woman "server" came out and told us the food wasn't cold. My wife explained that it is cold and she could touch it to see for herself. She rudely said that's too bad cause it was hot when it came out ( 3 minutes prior) and that we can get a refund but they won't make or reheat the food? Never ever had service this terrible. I will never come back to this place and I also think they should look at more cleanliness in their bathrooms and the floors. Place looks pretty disgusting and obviously not managed very good. Hope their corporate office can get rid of the trash and get a better staff. read more

9er's Grill is an interesting place for breakfast. I didn't know this place was here to begin with. I've never heard of 9er's Grill prior to the visit. The building looks like it was a previous Applebees. There is an outdoor patio which looks like it would be a nice place however this visit kept me inside. Walking up to the counter this looked to be a sports themed restaurant. This also looked like a western themed restaurant. Pictures of football but also basketball and cowboys were hung throughout. Standing at the counter looking at the menu on tv's behind the counter I saw what I wanted. Until I was informed that the item I asked for was only available Monday through Friday. Then can't the menu be edited to only show what's available on the day that I'm looking at said menu? Three order was brought to the table and the sever was great with being attentive and keeping my coffee filled. I'm still confused on the decor but I'm not confused on the food. The food would bring me back, which would then give me another opportunity to figure out what theme 9er's Grill is gong for. read more

Not a bad spot. I visited two day's in a row for breakfast. The format is stand in line, order go sit and they bring the food to you. I had breakfast both days the short stack combo with a side of potato's. It was very good, hence why I had it for two days! I visited on a Saturday and Sunday morning about 10:30ish and seating was wide open! The do have a few tv screens should you want to watch sports. Overall good spot and I would visit again. First off didn't like that I was gonna leave the tip on my credit card and the kid told me don't do that cause it doesn't go to anyone. To leave it at the table. Well I don't carry cash. Went there and got their Weekend catfish special which they increase the price by a $1 and took away the salad. Apparently they are pinching pennies and apparently fries too! Why would anyone think it's ok to package food like this and serve it to a customer. No wonder the place was EMPTY on a Friday evening. Won't be back! read more

We have been in lunch/dinner often and recently came in for breakfast. All the food we have tried has been delicious. The staff is courteous and welcoming, food comes out fast and is good quality. We love the outdoor seating in the warm weather and can't wait to enjoy it again in the spring. Highly recommend visiting if you haven't before. read more

This place was built a while back just after I moved to the area. Since I was hoping for more bar-like restaurants for the evening and socializing, I didn't give it a shot when I found out it was just a regular restaurant (although they do have a decent selection of beer). Today I tried it for the first time. I ordered the Big Time Burger which is topped with bacon, jalapeños, and a fried egg. It was amazing. The lettuce was crispy fresh, the egg perfectly runny, and the burger perfectly cooked. My only complaint is that the burger is so big that once you get started you won't be able to eat your fries or take a drink: it's a full two-handed effort all the way through! The place is clean, the people friendly, and it has an outdoor seating area. I'll definitely come back here to try other menu items. read more

If you want to gain few pounds after dinner then this is the place to be. Large servings, a lot of fried options, and very reasonable price particularly on specials, giving you opportunities to order more :-) Fast and courteous service. Never a time that I had a major problem with my order apart from that one time I called-in for a take-out order which they made me wait for 10-15mins. I guess they were pretty busy that day. So I would suggest to just go there for a casual dining experience indoors or enjoy their outdoor patio. They have ample space for large groups as well. I got hooked with the Chicken Fried Chicken. Yes you heard me right! I guess that's a Texan thing. You could also mix and match your sides (rice pilaf with veggies, steak fries with slaw, rice and beans, etc). They won't nickel and dime you for customizations. They also have steaks but don't expect premium cuts though. Again it's a good place for a low-key family friendly dining. read more

I love supporting local businesses. I'd rather go to a family owned and operated place than a chain restaurant. Out of the five meals that we ordered, only one was worth eating. The rest of us didn't finish our food. Mine specifically was not made with fresh ingredients. The bun on my burger was so dry that I removed it to eat the burger plain. That didn't help. The bacon was like rubber and the burger patty itself was so over cooked. The fries were soggy with no salt. Nobody had any seasoning on any of their dishes. Fried catfish wasn't crispy. I could keep going but I think you get the point. Sometimes stuff like this happens bc of a lunch or dinner rush but not the case here. 4:30 on a Friday afternoon and there was only one other table sat while we were there. I should have known it would be dog food from the empty parking lot. No wonder why they make you pay when you order. If this showed up at my table like this I would have walked out. Never going back. Great burgers, great portions! When they opened the owner walked around and talked to customers asking them what they did and didn't like. I suggested sweet potato fries. It wasn't long and they were on the menu. The staff is polite and efficient. I've been there dozens of times and never had a bad experience. Excellent food! Got the grilled catfish it was done perfectly it came with a loaded baked potato that had chives, sour cream, butter, shredded cheddar cheese and bacon. Also a bun and side salad. It's only $9.99 on the weekends. Make sure if you pay at the counter with a credit card DON'T put the tip on your card. The waitress doesn't get it. Give it tip to the waitress. Tips left on card goes into a jar up front and get split between the counter people. Watched the waitress run like crazy. For no tips. We handed her the tip so we know she got it. I've eaten here a few times and have had mixed results. The staff is always friendly. My kids think the Mac n' cheese is great. The chicken tenders are always gigantic and delicious. I've tried the chicken fried steak twice. Once it was perfect and once it was awful. The boudin balls used to be my favorite item but they seemed to have changed the recipe. I ordered them yesterday for the first time in awhile and they were just breaded Italian-style meatballs. It was odd. I hope they change back soon because no other place near me sells boudin balls. The Greek salad was ok but I wish the dressing was on the side, especially since mine was a to-go order. I think 9'ers could be quite good if management focused on consistency and details. read more

This place opened on the site of the erstwhile Applebee's (a wretched establishment I maintain exists for people who don't like to eat). I love the wide open country out here near Stately Breakwind Manor, but in many ways it is mostly a culinary wasteland. Chains. (thank Dios for the Mexicans, who have the only places with decent food that isn't corporate-controlled) So any new place gets my attention. I can't figure out what the "vibe" of "9'ers" is supposed to be. There is a large mural about Vince Lombardi. There are myriad photos of Firemen. Nothing ties the name of the place to the place, however. And a deeper look shows this is a small chain itself, based mostly in suburban Texas. How in hell did they choose Montgomery, Il for an outpost? The Menu features Chicken, Burgers, and Fish. A lot a of fried stuff. And Huge-ass potatoes. Big seems to be the idea here. Portion size is big and bigger. My wife swears by the Potatoes. I don't eat many. But the one or two I tried were really tasty. I've been getting the Fried Seafood platter with Shrimps, Crawfish and Catfish. all New-Orleans style breaded, light in nature. Very fresh and yummy. The "Tartar" sauce is heavily informed by Tarragon, too much for me, even though I like Tarragon. I ask for their fine Ranch dressing as a dip for the seafood. The red cocktail sauce is spanky indeed, with a good dose of Horseradish along with the Tomato. The Burgers and Chix Sandwiches are pretty good. Edible. and BIG. They advertise breakfast, but the place just doesn't have the "breakfast" vibe. Ain't been here for that yet. In fact the place just confuses. The wife likes it, so we keep going back. Haven't had a bad meal yet, but it's not a home run for me. If she didn't want to come here, I'd never enter the place. I've said more than once, I just don't trust it. What the hell is THAT? Went for the first time last night. We were greeted by a gentleman who explained we ordered at the counter and then sat down and a server would then bring out our food. The menu was huge and had lots of options. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my girlfriend had a burger. While sitting down I had a chance to look over the decor and I thought to myself, "if the foods as good as the decor then it's going to be great!" Our food came out and I was delighted to see the portion size was huge! Everything tasted great and I couldn't finish everything. I thought the value for the price was great. It turned out the food was better than the decor! To those who think this is fast food because you order at the counter and sit down and have your food brought out to you are sorely mistaken.
