I don't know if it's just this particular one, but I was not happy with my experience. Firstly, we had to wade through all the people standing at the front door. I guess they were waiting for takeout because the dining room was practically empty. The server seating us ushered us to a booth, and our server came right over to introduce himself. Very pleasant and attentive. We hear screaming and shouting coming from the other side of the seat, and thinking someone is arguing, I don't turn around. But then we realized it was someone watching a horror movie! At full volume! We had to practically yell at each other to have a conversation. The food came out quickly, 1/2 a slab and a chicken sandwich, not pleased at all... the sandwich was dry, basically a piece of chicken breast on a hoagie bun. No sauce of any kind, not even a piece of lettuce! The ribs, although cooked well, were sub-par, in my opinion, to the ribs I've had at the original Commissary. I was very disappointed. Back to the person watching the movie. It turns out it was an employee! I sincerely hope she was on her break! We were the only ones in this part of the restaurant, and again, the place was empty, so why seat us there and isn't there a designated area for employees to take their breaks? When we left, again, there was a congregation of folks at the podium where the seating person stands, this time mostly employees. It was a bottle neck as if you're merging onto 240 from 385. The bill came out to $50.00, and I truly believe I would have been more satisfied had I gone to Pyros or Outback for that amount. Not happy at all. read more

Arrived with a large party, we called ahead so, they had two tables for us. The staff said they could combine the two together, but it would be an L shape, which would give them room to serve our meals. The portions were great, not bad for the price. Our waiter was great, and funny. As we joked around with each other, he joined in, after being drawn into our group. What a job in keeping up with who ordered what. We ordered pickup yesterday as we were in town. We had the brisket sandwich that didn't have hardly any fat, loved that. The pulled pork sandwiches were tasty and we were given healthy portions. The mac and cheese was not good according to my 15yo. The ribs were tasty but hubby didn't like the membrane still being on the back. The pig chips were fun and tasty with a good dipping sauce. They messed up my order in the drive through during Covid-19. I called up and the manager made it right, as he should have. The food did taste good and the manager and drive thru staff was friendly. I've been to the one in Germantown so I was glad to see this one in Collierville open especially since my go-to place (rhymes with porky's) has gone down hill. Got a full slab and and jumbo pulled pork shoulder sandwich. Sandwich was stacked with meat which was nice to see. The ribs looked really dry, but when I tasted it, my fear quickly dissipated because they were moist inside. Good flavor too. We were in Byhalia, from out of town, for a wedding, and a few of the locals suggested to try Commissary. We had such a great Lunch there with a fantastic waitress, I believe her name was Melissa. She was so sweet and suggested everything we ordered, and it was fantastic. We had the brisket, slaw and deviled egg, barbecue pulled pork, and their mac & cheese. Notice I didn't say the best BBQ; that honor might go to a different spot, but when you factor in the quality of the sides and desserts and the excellent service, Collierville Commissary blows the other places out of the water. The place looks modern and old-timey at the same time; it's spacious and shiny but has a charm to it. The service is very friendly, attentive, and efficient. I was super unsure about coming here just because if I go get commissary, I go to the Germantown commissary but this location was actually good! I ordered the bbq pork nachos with pig chips instead of tortilla chips. I ask for pig chips just because I think they're a bit crispier and have more flavor than tortilla chips. My favorite place for Bar-B-Q when I visit Germantown has always been The Commissary a small place with a large history right in the heart of town. Now they recently have built a new much larger location in the neighboring community of Collierville. This location is probably more than three times bigger than the original location. The food is still amazingly delicious. We went there today for lunch and were not disappointed. I ordered my favorite, The Boss Hog Salad. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos. Both were large portions pilled with meat and mouth watering good. Our server, James, was outstanding and made sure our food was fixed just the way we wanted it. We've stopped ordering from this location because the front staff is amazingly incompetent. Everytime. But we inadvertently ordered from that location on ChowNow today. I arrive at 5:05, when the order is supposed to be ready. Wait my turn. Tell them my name and that it is Chownow. They look at ALL the bags on the counter tell me it's not ready yet and go on to help other people. I sit there another 15 minutes. I walk up again and said, the order was marked as complete at 5:09. She looks around, looks at the bag next to her (that's been sitting there since I walked in) and says, oh here it is. Okay, things happen. What really got me annoyed is, I muttered under my breath, "you've got to be kidding me". She goes, "well we are kinda busy." I just walked out but I wanted to say, "yeah, I get it, but I waited my turn and then you helped a bunch of other people, you actually looked at the bag 15 minutes ago when I first came in." Being busy has nothing to do with it. All she had to say was, "I'm sorry, I totally missed that one." Being dismissive and rude when you make a mistake is entirely poor service and ruins a customers experience. What was once my favorite bbq restaurant in Memphis has now become mediocre with poor services. After placing a pick up order, I got home to discover the chicken for the Boss salad was missing. I called to let the store know, they said they'd have it ready for me by the time I arrived. They didn't. Not only did I have to make the drive back, I was shocked and dissatisfied with how small of a cup they gave me for what was once a generous salad with a good portion of protein. They didn't offer anything to make up for my troubles. Their sauce has also lost the characteristics flavor it once had to now tasting generic and meh. First time at the new location. I got our order "to go". The front staff was very friendly and were very efficient. It wasn't that crowded so I immediately placed my order upon entry. Got my order in about 10-12 minutes. The girls at the counter thoroughly checked my order before bagging (that's a plus). We ordered a salad with smoked chicken and a BBQ plate (comes with 2 sides and bread). All was hot and fresh and delicious. I am so glad to have this in our neighborhood. WOW! I can't say enough good things about this restaurant, starting with the service. My husband and I had car trouble during a long trip and ended up in Collierville with our dog while the truck was getting serviced. The staff graciously opened their back patio for us so we could sit outside with the pup and enjoy a meal. Beyond that, the food was amazing! My husband is a Texas brisket snob and was raving over the smoked flavor and over the slaw. I personally loved the BBQ sauce over pulled pork and the beans. Plus, the banana pudding was bomb and you must order it even though you're beyond full at the end of your awesome meal. After all the hype I had heard I was really looking for eating here, and after skipping lunch I arrived at around 4:30pm. Being sat next to the only screaming child in the restaurant didn't help. I ordered the ribs, baked beans and coleslaw. It wasn't long before my food showed. Both the ribs and baked beans were cool. The coleslaw was too. The bread wasn't worth the effort. Really not good. As it took a while before anyone came by to check on me, but by then I'd eaten most of my meal. You get that feeling that the food was the leftovers from lunch that had been set aside for later. Hmmm, this place is worth giving a try but I hesitate to say it's something special. I was in Memphis for three hours today and took a customer to lunch. The service was awesome, attentive and food came out fast. If you come in the parking lot from the mall side, the building isn't super well marked, but my customer knew where he was going. The indoor space was large and empty since we arrived at 1pm on a weekday, yet we were sat next to the kitchen, I never love when that happens. I was a hostess once, no big deal. The nachos. I want to love the nachos. The pork and sauce is good. Even the chips are fine. The nacho cheese is a little concerning. It's industrial nacho cheese. Maybe they should switch to a shredded cheese if they aren't interested in making a homemade queso. I realize they are backyard bbq style and maybe the industrial nacho cheese fits that vibe. There are jalapeños as well, but no other toppings. Maybe give folks the option of adding tomatoes, lettuce, onion, beans, etc so it isn't just a plate of chips with meat and cheese, pictured here. I still ate almost half the plate... Deviled egg was fine, coleslaw was good (not soupy and soggy), beans were pretty good. tasty butter rolls! I called in an order for 16 people with additional sides. I called it in hours ahead of time for a specific pick up. I arrived five minutes early and although they knew about the order they didn't start putting it together until I was there. I understand they don't want to get stiffed with a large order, but I would've gladly paid in advance if I knew the order would be ready for me to pick up, on time. They had the best thin crispy tortilla chips, and call me weird, but I love the fake nacho cheese sauce over real shredded cheese, makes the best nachos hands down. Very Disappointing!!! It is ridiculous how bad this is compared to Germantown Commissary. Gtown is a 4.5-5 most times. I can't believe how this place could mess up everything down to the beans.
