This Memphis establishment has a real hometown feel. I ordered the Southwest Salad with Blackened Catfish, which was super tasty. The catfish was well seasoned, and the salad toppings paired nicely. I was excited for the cornbread that each dish was served with, but it was very dry and low-key hard to swallow. My boyfriend ate it without complaint, but I really wanted to like it. My boyfriend ordered the Blackened Salmon Plate with a side of Collards. We split a side of Sweet Potato Fries that were simple yet delicious. However, I'm not a fan of how much plastic they use. Each patron is served a drink in a plastic take-home Soul Fish Cafe cup. If you need a refill, you get another plastic cup. I can't imagine the amount of cups that they have to order and serve on a daily basis. I'd be open to coming again and would love to see them swap to a more sustainable drinking option. read more

Average food. Chain ambiance. Decent service but essentially, across all three categories, I have to rate this as meh. I had the blacken catfish and it was okay, cooked properly but there was a funny tinny taste to it. The greens were bland. I wouldn't say I would go back. read more

The thing I love about Soul Fish is how consistent they are. No matter which location you go to the food is the same. The service is also always great and the atmosphere is always family friendly. I had a taste for salmon and the cajun cabbage and they did not disappoint. read more

Stepped into Soul Fish Cafe after coffee at Congregation Coffee across the street. The staff were all quick, friendly, and inviting. The fried catfish and fried okra were both delicious. The catfish is slightly smaller in portion than I had hoped. I just didn't care for water served in plastic cups and styrofoam take out containers. In our time where microplastics are ubiquitous, I'd like to see business take up on more environmentally friendly and health friendly materials such glass cups so our water doesn't taste plastic and our hot food doesn't melt the styrofoam container we take back home with. This message is by no means targeting Soul Fish Cafe, but many restaurants in Memphis in general. read more

Great meal, atmosphere and service. The catfish was perfectly fried, and the macaroni, green beans, and French fries were all fresh and flavorful. I even tried the PB&J -- simple but surprisingly good. Staff was friendly and fast, and everything came out hot. After picking up my mom from airport, we wanted seafood for dinner and thought Soul fish was the place to go. Placed the order via phone and waited in the parking lot until the time has passed. I walked inside and was greeted. The interaction was great. My food was ready so I tipped and walked out! When I got home and opened my food, I was so disappointed. It was the smallest fried fish I had ever seen. The salmon was more than blackened that I didn't even finished it. I lived too far to call and make a complaint, so thought I would share my experience here. This was my first time at Soulfish in quite a while. Not sure that I will be back. read more

We had a fun time seeing old friends and eating at this delicious restaurant. My wife had the blackened shrimp and I had the catfish tacos. They are the best with the guacamole and salsa. My wife thought the Mac and cheese was some of the best she has ever had! It was our friends' first time and they loved the friend shrimp, catfish plate and grilled shrimp with a baked sweet potato. They handled six people comfortably around a round table. Our server Virginia was excellent. We are sad there are no restaurants like this around us. read more

I came here with a group and am not a big fan of their "seat the whole party at once" policy. We were all coming in after work down the street and planned to spend at least an hour or so eating and chatting about the book we had read, so we were all coming in at various times. To be honest, if I had known they had this policy I wouldn't have picked it because it definitely doesn't suit our needs. The food was just ok. I'm not a huge southern food person, so take that as you will. I adored the hushpuppies here but really didn't like my shrimp tacos. 5-17-26 We were there for lunch. The food is good but the portions has been cut. The menu needs to be changed. A jumbo shrimp is not a small shrimp size. The shrimp is not even medium size. The fried catfish is cut in half the size and has mostly batter than fish. There ice has an aftertaste that is probably from the ice machine not being cleaned. Most likely black mold. I don't know why we keep coming back. It's seems that profit is more important to them than anything. I guess that they don't care. We will NOT be back. read more

Customers be aware! We were here for lunch. The staff didn't seem too friendly. We ordered our meal and drinks. The drinks had a moldy taste like the ice wasn't clean. The food came out but the portions were not the same as in the past. They had cut the size of the food. The fried shrimp were small and not even able to taste the shrimp itself. Let me preface this by saying that I never have liked catfish. I grew up around some of the best fishing lakes in the lower 48, and developed a strong affinity and appreciation for northern pike, walleye, perch, bass, etc. Given that, I have found that this restaurant produces a deliciously well-crafted southwestern style salad, with plenty of tasty black beans, and also with animal protein toppings (if so desired). Also, their hush puppies are very good. The side items are also respectable. All of the portion sizes are generous, and some come with unexpected extras, like cornbread muffins or hand-cut French fries. I can say that they do a mediocre job with the boneless chicken wings appetizer. The chicken can't be really tasted because of the ridiculously overly-thick breading. Also, my southwestern salad came with a side of (overly salty) shrimp that wasn't actually ordered. I usually just have a family member bring me some take home food, since I don't care for the uncomfortable chairs at the restaurant. As long as my family keeps eating here, so will I. Here's to hoping that this joint will import some walleye from Canada. read more

Friendly service, order was ready on time and easy to pick up at the bar. Restaurant was decently busy on a Saturday night, but looked to be reasonably comfortable. This had been one of my favorite locations until last night. I was served a sweet tea with a metal screw inside the bottom of my cup. Due to the tea being dark I did not see it until I had drank the entire thing down. I tell my waitress and she gets the manager and she comes over and tells me it must have come out the container that holds the tea. She says she's going to comp my meal well my ticket was $58 she takes off a $16 fish plate and brings me back the balance of the ticket after I drank a tea with a screw in it. I was gong to try and let it go but the more I thought about I felt traumatized that I could get sick from drinking behind a rusty screw. read more

Decided to have a family outing and dine in for some good olé Southern style Fish. I am thoroughly happy that Soul Fish Cafe didn't disappoint. The Lunch/Evening rush confirms why this place is such a hot commodity. Personally, I love the freshness of the each dish that's prepared (especially) the fried fish. I have to admit I ordered a lot of fried on this visit, but I still enjoyed every bit of my meal. The potions are very decent for the price. I also had plenty to take back. Soul fish is appealing to any crowd, including your little ones. Not pictured, were two other popular dishes including the "fish tacos & the po boy sandwich." Private parking lot. This is right beside a movie theater. They have specials written on the board every day. The inside is a pretty open concept. My family tried the fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were pretty thick. I wish they had cut them thinner. Your drinks are served in souvenir plastic cups that you can take home. Great advertisement idea. I ordered 2 whole bone-in catfish. The fish was tasty. I didn't have a problem getting around the bones but I know some people need filets. Cajun Cabbage was the best thing I ate at the venue. Fried okra was decent. We used to go to Soul Fish for fried catfish, which is excellent, but fattening. Then we decided to try the blackened catfish. Ohhhh! Two big fat fillets that were much less fattening than the fried. I usually ask for the lightly blackened. My husband and I have traveled all over Europe and the world. We just got back from 23 days in South Africa. The first thing we did was go to Soul Fish for lightly blackened catfish. I think it's a the best fish I've ever eaten. Very generous portions. Great price value. We found this place along our route to Arkansas. The reviews were great, so we made it a point to stop. We got catfish filets. With a side of okra. I wasn't a fan of any of it. It was okay. There's nothing to go crazy over or rush back to. The staff was great and friendly the the bathroom was very clean. We possibly just didn't get a good chef that day. read more
