Not sure why this place is even open, worst service and food I have tried in a very long time, over priced, quality and flavors of most of the food is terrible, plates and utensils not clean, selection not worth the money. I was visiting Memphis with family for the very first time, and wanted to check out this p!ace based on all the good reviews about the restaurant and how good the food was, our bill for 6 people was $153, thought we were going to enjoy this place and it was going to be worth it, but to our disappointment nothing we read about this place existed, seems all the reviews written about this place either were paid for, or written by the owner to boost his reputation, what a waste, totally Do not recommend read more

Nothing beats a really good buffet and this on definitely is one of the very best in Memphis! The food is always fresh and plenty. The bar is clean and food appealing. The restrooms were descent and cleaned. The place is huge but not overwhelming. They offer soul food and chinese cuisine at a good price. Service is good and staff is nice. I stopped by on a Friday evening with a party of 7 around 7pm and it was busy but not crowded or people waiting at stations for food. read more

Dined here on a Thursday evening around 6 PM and had a great experience. There was no wait when we arrived and we were immediately seated. The buffet was very clean and fully stocked. Once seated, we were asked for our drink orders, which came out quickly. The buffet offered a wide variety of both American and Chinese dishes, and everything looked fresh and inviting. There was an impressive selection--fried chicken, baked chicken, BBQ chicken, bourbon chicken, pork chops, hamburger steaks, neckbones, yams, mashed potatoes, greens, pinto beans, green beans, cabbage... honestly, just about anything you could think of. My first plate had neckbones, pinto beans, cornbread, and a hamburger steak--everything was delicious. My 2-year-old really enjoyed the spaghetti and fried chicken, while my son loved the hot wings and rolls. It was truly a delight, and they even had a salad bar. The only downside was the dessert bar, which was pretty underwhelming. There were mostly small tea cakes, along with some cobblers and Jell-O. Unfortunately, there was no ice cream, which definitely disappointed my 2-year-old. The waitresses were attentive, frequently clearing finished plates and offering refills. Even as the crowd picked up around 6:30 PM, the buffet remained clean and well stocked. This restaurant is about a 30-minute drive for us, but it's always worth it read more

If you like variety, you should definitely grab a bite here. The food is usually good when I go and I would definitely be the one eating all of the peach cobbler crust. The food is always hot and you can catch some pretty interesting dishes sometimes. Staff is always friendly and attentive. As for the environment, it reminds me of an old cafeteria. It could definitely stand some renovations, but overall not a bad place to grab a bite (dine in or takeout). read more

If you want a variety, this is your place. Soul food, Chinese food. It's busy, so don't go on a Sunday. There is a line.

I genuinely do not know how this place has 4.2 stars. It's a Chinese buffet that has more "Southern Cooking" than Chinese food, half of it is cold, the other half just wasn't that good, and I could tell almost everything I ate was frozen. I am pretty upset that I paid $46 for overpriced garbage for me and my wife. Oh, and to top it all off, the waitress made me show her my receipt before she would even take our drink orders. The actual restaurant itself was pretty dirty. There was some kind of weird black stuff on all of the yellow walls in the foyer. Floors were dirty too. I don't expect the world when I go to a Chinese buffet, but I expect much better than what I received for $46. I will not be returning and do not recommend this "Chinese" restaurant. I should've just gone to Panda Express. read more

I hadn't been there in a while but I decided to give it one more shot! I should have gone somewhere else! The place has continued to get worse since the first review that I gave 7 years ago! I got there when they opened and the only fried chicken they had was wings and some of them had fur on them! There were no fried chicken breasts and they used to have the best fried chicken in the city! The rice and broccoli were thin like it was watered down! The spicy baby shrimp was the best thing I had on my plate! The service was pretty good and fast but I can't go back there again because nothing is as good as it used read more

This is the best place to bring a group of friends from out of town. The cost has gone up but it is still a great deal. The addition of honey gold wings are a plus. The servers are very friendly especially Ken. Ken makes the best sweet teas. Thank you so much! read more

Fantastic and delicious food! Well seasoned! The staff was friendly and helpful! Great!

So glad we came here for a family gathering. Most places have staffing issues and cannot handle large parties but this place was easily able to handle a party of 16. We were seated immediately and got our drinks in minutes. The staff was really nice and the buffet was not too busy on a Friday evening. I was happy with the selection. Some food is decent but other food is below average. This place is definitely worth the value. read more

Okay so first off- this is not my plate.....a colleague raves about this place having delicious food. So myself and two other colleagues placed an Uber eats order. I ordered a General Tso chicken- which was plentiful but not appetizing (to me) but I did give it to someone who enjoyed it and said it was delicious (I didn't get a chance to take a pic of it). The pieces of chicken were gmo huge. The spicy was too sweet for my liking. My colleague ordered a two-meat entree (I think that is what it is called) her order consists of Hog Maws (did I spell/say it right?) and pig feet... I'm not sure which is which in the photo but when I tell you she left nothing but BONEZ (not bones) that was all that was left along with the rice... apparently, they did not give her "rice & gravy" as she requested. She said the coleslaw was good but it doesn't look like it has any seasoning JMO.... I decided to post this review for those who considered eating here for pig feet/ hog maws..... read more

Chow time is my favorite buffet in Memphis! It's one of the local favorites. You get soul food and Chinese food all in one day. They keep the food fresh and the price is just right. It's conveniently located right off the highway. I come specifically for the rice pudding...it's just like my mom use to make! read more

Food : there are different choices to choose from in food ! I recommend the dessert in the photo !! Service : friendly never rude ! If you have a large party or over 3 you will be charged $5 ! Not good at all. I was very disappointed. From walking into the restaurant employees were not friendly they just wanted you to pay the expensive buffet price and move on. The food was very blend and very salty. The Asian food was not cooked well enough. Not going back ever read more

I could only give it three starts because there is not a lot of variety in the food. The service was great very accommodating. However the food average nothing out of the ordinary, it's pretty much a combination between some Panda Express and some Cracker Barrel. If you go on a Sunday be prepared to make food lines that can take up to 15 to 20 minutes to get through. Ambiance was ok, we were seated next to an dry aquarium which wasn't kept up and looked a little gross other than that the very else was well cleaned. Unfortunately this would be the one and only stop we make here. read more

I think it's weird to have Asian cuisine and Soul Food in the same establishment but new city, new experience. The soul food was GOOD. I tasted everything on the buffet line and nothing was disappointing. From smothered chicken to the cornbread, I was satisfied. Definitely recommend if you're looking to fill up on some home style cooking. The Chinese food did not look appealing like the food wasn't being stirred. The rice looked dry and I even heard a woman comment about the rice being undercooked. I'm adventurous so I was going to try until I saw the chef eat out of the wok with HIS BARE HANDS. Instant turn off. Bathrooms need major work. DEFINITELY GO TO EAT AT THE SOUL FOOD BUFFET. read more

I was trying to give it a 3 1/2, but it won't let me do it. I guess so you guys probably take an average of all the reviews. This restaurant was a welcomed surprise: Chinese and Soulfood in two different buffet lines, but in the same restaurant. Loved the different menu choices and the food that I tried was very good & well seasoned. The wait staff in bringing your drinks and picking up your plates were punctual and kind. My husband had eaten at this place about five years ago and we went back because he wanted pig feet. Lol according to him and his sister they were absolutely delicious. I tried eggrolls, noodles, shrimp, fish (I believe it was cod), cabbage and lima beans. All were very good. I did not see a black cook so I was surprised to see Asian's cooking soul food. The only thing I didn't like was that kids were allowed to go up and fix their own plates and there were a lot of kids allowed to run around, I don't like kids playing over my food... so I question the cleanliness of serving areas. read more

Interesting place with a mix of Chinese and southern American style foods. Good variety. We were there after 2pm. There was a steady influx of customers. The food was freshly prepared and well stocked. The restaurant was pretty clean despite it was following the lunch crowd. Staff was serving from the buffet due to Covid. The restrooms were clean and well stocked. The food was average buffet styled foods. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat there in the future, but I'd go back if I happen to be in the area. Lunch prices were reasonable. read more

I would give this place a high rating but the atmosphere wasn't enjoyable as no entertainment was presented of either music and/or tv. Tv was showing no signal. One of the TVs was mounted ontop of an empty fishtank. Otherwise food was pleasant and service was quick but needs more servers. Huge building, needs some renovation performed to expand the bathroom. read more

Terrible customer service. came with my family and the host was rude and impatient with us.

The variety of food is unmatched! Let's start with the great social distancing practices they have in place. Once guests get to the start of the buffet line, a worker hands you a place, you select what food you want on your plate, and they put it on the place for you. Loved it! The food is delicious! They have a wide variety of food: Chinese, soul food, and traditional American food! My Favorite station was delicious the Chinese food bar -sweet and sour chicken! Not to mention, the cost is not expensive at all! read more

Awesome food best food I have had since I move to Mississippi.... Little Chinese southern soul food

I LOVE this restaurant. The food is one of the best in the city and I go there anytime I am starving and want to fill up my belly with as much food as possible. Personally, my favorite is eating pig feet with white rice. I get it everytime I am there. I believe this is the only restaurant in Memphis which serves hot and delicious pig feet. I am more so vegeterian now so I now eat the potatoes and veges. This restaurant is the perfect combination of southern food and chinese mixed. Buffet price is also reasonable. Try it out. You will love this place! read more

Food was generally hot and fresh and good! The place has gotten old and needs a good floor to ceiling cleaning, especially the salad bar and dessert area. They were pretty much out of desserts. They have great TVs on the walls but none of them were working. Good news is they were busy. With all the things that are distracting and need work and made me wonder if this restaurant will survive, I still really enjoyed the food. This restaurant is a paradox! read more

So even for a Chinese soul food buffet, Chow Time leaves a lot to be desired. My family likes this place so I was obliged to tag along. The restaurant is not well lit and felt a bit dirty from the moment I set foot in the door. I'm always challenged by restaurants that have poor lighting because it makes me think they are hiding something. The staff was nice enough (for a self-serve buffet). If you are in a party of 5 or more, you're automatically seated in a large dining room in the back of the restaurant with large 10 person tables. It makes it difficult to socialize with a small party, but that's how they do it at Chow Time. Well the buffet itself left a lot to be desired. It's basically set up in 4 parts. Chines food, Fried food, sides and desserts/salads. And yes, the desserts and salads are all in one bar together. I didn't try the Chinese food, so I can't speak to its quality but the fried food was just that. Fried, and fried some more. They have everything you could want and imagine fried. It wasn't especially tasty, but if that's your thing, well this is your place. I will add that they also serve "delicacies" like pigs feet, hot water cornbread and sometimes chitterlings. SO, my grandmother was in "hog heaven" - her words, not mine. read more

After my first choice restaurant (Maharaja) was closed due to "electrical issues" (at least, that's what the sign on the door said), and my second choice restaurant was seemingly nonexistent (Woodlands), I found myself driving aimlessly up and down Hacks Cross in the rain, confused and hungry. I was with a friend, and we were both nearing the point where we were about to give up and give in to the Steak Escape drive through when he saw something promising: Chow Time, a Chinese and soul food buffet with a sign ringed in brilliant white light blubs like a theatre marquee. It seemed like a good idea. And was it ever. First of all, while most restaurants have the basic "No shoes, no shirt, no service" rules, Chow Time is the first place I've ever been that has an entire wall devoted to rules and regulations. No sitting for more than two hours. No miniskirts. And everyone must be wearing a shirt at all times. There were so many of them (and they were so specific) that I have to wonder how many of them were written to address a real-life problem. We were seated immediately by the security guard, and a friendly waitress brought us drinks. Families were eating from plates piled high with food, single men were watching football and we were standing there wide-eyed, staring at the buffet's sections - "China Inn", "Southern Home Cookin'", "Grill USA" and "Salad Bar". I started on the soul food side of the buffet. It was sprawling and complete with its offerings of Southern staples (think mac'n'cheese, greens, mashed potatoes, cornbread) and delicacies (like pig's feet and chitterlings). And then, just because I could, I plopped two egg rolls from the Chinese Buffet on my plate, setting them atop my fried catfish to keep them from being soaked by the juice from my greens. The soul food was all pretty tasty, but I have to give high marks to the greens, which (with the addition of a little vinegar) were close to perfection. As I ate from that first plate, I came to two important realizations about Chow Time: 1. Chow Time is kind of brilliant in its ability to please just about everyone (except, sadly, vegetarians); and 2. Chow Time would be amazing if you were drunk. On my second trip to the buffet, I went for the Chinese section. I loaded up my plate with Chinese vegetables (water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, celery and baby corn), pepper steak, zucchini in some kind of clear sauce and some rather delicious fried potato wedges. While most of the food was decent, you don't have to worry about legions of pretentious foodies flocking to Chow Time. The food is good (and some of it, like the greens, is really good) but it's designed for maximum efficiency. But the quality of the food doesn't really seem to be the point at Chow Time, and that's more than alright. The point is that it's a place that just about everyone can agree on. It's inexpensive (dinner for one with a drink is about $12). It's an excellent people watching opportunity. It's got the kind of concept that seems like it would only work in Memphis. read more

Honestly I don't think I am coming back. I got each kind of chicken they had and it they were all very very mushy. Almost like an apple sauce mush. Definitely not what you want from chicken. The rice was meh, and the bread pudding was absolutely awful. Very nice place. I wish the food had matched it. I walked in hungry and left, hungry. I don't leave reviews but this place was I felt egregious and I'd hate for anyone else to have to eat what I just ate. UPDATE: I got sick after eating here read more

Interesting fare: Soul food and Chinese food. Buffet nicked sweet-n-sour chicken, fried rice, spring rolls and egg rolls, chicken-n-broccoli, noodles, salad w/toppings, candied yams, greens, smothered chicken, liver, corn bread, black eyed peas, and southern fried catfish, I could go on but I'm hungry. Comfortable atmosphere during non-peak hours. Booths and tables available. Prices are moderate, but drinks are extra. There is a mandatory gratuity for parties of 5 or more. **If you are impatient avoid going to this place during peak hours they serve slow and it gets very crowed during lunch and Sundays. Decided to stop by here for lunch at the recommendation of a friend. Good food and friendly prompt service. Having a security guard at the door is a little weird, don't think I've ever seen that at a restaurant. The Chinese buffet items are fairly decent. They seem to be connected to the China Inn buffets. I haven't been to China Inn in a while, but a friend with me said that the items tasted very similar to China Inn. The Southern Food section is decent. I had some catfish and some sausages which were decent. The sausages were a little cold, but were warm enough to be edible. The catfish however was fresh which offset my slight disappointment with the sausages. Overall I'd have to say I'm impressed with the selection and the overall quality of the food. I wouldn't be opposed to visiting again if given the opportunity. read more
