As far as Colectivo'a in Milwaukee (and a few in surrounding areas), this may be the most cozy, friendly, and clearly community oriented one. When I've stopped by on the weekends, there is always a vibrant chess gathering going on. It's very much a local gathering place. The food is the same as that available at the other Colectivo's around. I appreciate their breakfast sandwiches. Honestly, those are probably the only food I've had in these coffee shops. It's a unique coffee spot (despite being sort of corporate overall) in a unique neighborhood. I imagine that makes all the difference! read more

We love Colectivo! It's our go-to order ahead coffee run when we're on our way to work or weekend activities. The signature/seasonal drinks are always unique and worth trying! All of the food is phenomenal as well. The burritos are on the smaller side I should say as well. The chicken bacon avocado sandwich is pricier but is SO GOOD. Worth it in my opinion! Colectivo Coffee originally was Alterra Coffee. I drink it almost daily under that brand name. I love the decaf and the French Roast the best. The three men that started the business really fulfilled their mission. They moved into opening coffee shops and selling delicious baked goods. I'm sorry to say that they were not around the last time I drove through Milwaukee, Wisconsin. You can be sure I will stop in to one of their many locations when I pass through. Colectivo has really grown on me over the years and are my go to for coffee in the area. I go to this one and the prospect Avenue one allot - and their arrangements are so similar I get the layout confused ("hey, why isn't the bathroom on the right? Oh, because I'm at the riverwest location not the east side one.") These cafes are great places to get some work done, meet up with friends, or just relax and enjoy your weekend coffee and muffin. Colectivo on Humboldt is open for curbside coffee, and I'm happy about it! There's nothing I miss more than spending a morning in a coffee shop with a book or my laptop, but hey I'll take what I can get! I've always enjoyed Colectivo's food + drinks and was excited for them that they've reopened. My husband and I took a walk to this location and figured we would give them a call before arriving to place our order, as that's how many places are doing it. However, once we approached the building we realized the now have a curbside window set up - how perfect and innovative. They have quite the large patio/sidewalk area surrounding it, which is nice because there were quite a few people who had the same idea as us, so everyone could spread out and keep their safe difference. We ordered at the pick-up window that was covered partially with a plastic screen. The employee behind had a mask and gloves as well. It wasn't long before our iced lattes were ready at the pickup window. There's something about Colectivo's coffee that is just different. Its creamy-goodness honestly made my day! Looking forward to the day I can come back and spend some time here, but until then, I'm so excited for this business to be making small steps. read more

Good coffee and pretty barista, but... Coffee cups are now teeny-tiny (and the texture of the cups is unpleasant); refills are super-expensive. A coffee addict on a modest income can go broke quickly and would get a lot of exercise getting back in line at the counter after every few sips. Hours are short: I want to stay late but they close at 5. I remember when they were open until 10 before covid. But why stay extra hours when it would cost half the week's pay just to keep the cup full. Environment has a nice color scheme but too cold and also pretty noisy. Bathroom disgusting. Maybe try back in several months to a year to see whether anything has improved. Lots of good coffee around these days, just don't need this. read more

Coffee coffee coffee!!! I'm from Chicago and visited Milwaukee and when I needed some coffee I went to Colectivo. I recognized the name as I think they have some locations in Chicago and maybe sell coffee in some stores as well. I was surprised that the company headquarters was this location in Milwaukee. From the outside it looks like a factory or warehouse, so I wasn't even sure it was a coffee shop.... But it's not your typical coffee shop. When you walk inside you realize why it looks like a warehouse outside. The front of the shop is like any other coffee shop until you look further behind and see everything..... They have stacks and stacks of coffee beans piled up on shelves, and have huge coffee roasting equipment right there. You can't beat fresh roasted coffee which is something you won't find and most coffee shops. Definitely worth the experience and checking out. read more

I don't live in Wisconsin, but I fell in love with Colectivo's cafes the first time I visited. After four years of regular visits, I usually have Velo whole beans as my go-to coffee option at home. A friend traveling between Milwaukee and DC even made sure I was set with a 1lb bag just as shelter-in-place orders began. I didn't ask for more because I had two Wisconsin weddings that I was supposed to attend in the past six weeks. While the marriages began, the wedding celebrations did not take place, of course. Although a 1lb bag typically would last me a very long time because I drink the coffee at my office and only get to enjoy Colectivo Velo French Roast in my French press on weekends, I've been home a lot more recently, and ran out weeks ago...I've been surviving on some other, ho-hum French Roast since. Since the reserves are also running low, I ordered a 5lb bag of whole beans from Colectivo earlier this week! It saved me a few dollars per lb, arrived mere days after ordering (hello long weekend coffee bliss --and please remember those who have served, ya'll), and I got free shipping! Apparently, I helped support the United States Postal Service (USPS) because that is how Colectivo shipped the coffee beans, which makes me even happier! I didn't get to apply the order to by Colectivo rewards card, since that only works for cafe purchases. Hopefully Colectivo changes that limitation soon for out-of-town fans like myself. I can't visit the cafes, but would still love to earn up to the birthday coffee gift! If you are near a Colectivo, I presume you can buy bags of coffee for pick up and get rewards. I still love this Colectivo location the most. They have a new spring/summer menu and everything is fanTAStic. The drink highlights for me have been the turmeric ginger chai latte (or frappe!) the bloom latte, and my absolute favorite, the bloom pomegranate lemonade. There are so many more new things to try as well. I also have to HIGHLY recommend their chipotle chicken sandwich with tangy slaw, pickles, and chipotle mayo. Colectivo on HumBoldt saved me from this crazy Midwest winter! I'm from California so it was really started sinking into my bones. My Airbnb host recommended the place to me and I'm so glad I checked it out! Let's start with the avocado toast. Super good! Loved the chimichurri sauce they used to top it! Adds some nice zest to tie the tomato and avocado together. The toast normally comes with an egg but I opted out of it because I'm an abnormal human and don't like eggs. But I was super impressed that the person helping me out at the cash register noticed that I asked for no egg and when I got my latte they double checked to see if I was ok with regular milk! Which I totally was but that's super observant! I may have been vegan! And it was only $6.50! That price would start a riot in LA. Now the latte, it was pretty good. Nothing to really write home about but I did order a large and I always feel that with espresso drinks the larger the drink the harder it is to really do something special with it. The atmosphere of the place is really nice! Tons of seating and brick walls with huge windows! Plus you can see into the roastery and all that's going on in there. Oh and the soundtRack they had going today gave me life. It literally resurrected me from my frozen grave and gave me the strength to write this. *Review for an online order* I used to live in Milwaukee and always enjoyed Colectivo coffee (and Alterra before that), so I decided to order some nostalgia beans to brew at home in San Mateo, California! I ordered a 5 lb bag of a really dark roast I remember liking, but when they arrived something didn't seem right with them. They tasted burnt and I couldn't really use them even though I tried brewing them a few different ways. It's possible I just really didn't like this specific bean, but it seemed like there might have been a problem with that batch. Anyway, I contacted the company and got a reply from Robin who immediately offered to send me replacement beans to make it right--even if it was just that I'd accidentally picked a bean I really didn't like. I picked out another favorite and got them within a few days! And now I am enjoying some delicious coffee :) They were so nice and helpful! I would 100% recommend ordering from Colectivo. read more

This Colectivo location is quickly becoming my go-to location for studying prior to class at UW-Milwaukee. It's far enough from campus that it is not overrun with students, and there's plenty of free parking nearby. Plus, you get the usual great coffee and food options that Colectivo offers. The only downfall of this location is that they are producing coffee in the back, which smells amazing but can be rather loud. I personally like the background noise when studying. However, it can be distracting when meeting up with a friend. read more

Went there to see TV Girl but they wouldn't let me in because I did not have proof of vaccination or proof of a false COVID test prior. This was the only time I had any notice of these requirements, and because of this my boyfriend and I were left in the rain to go f**k ourselves. Take into consideration we are from Minnesota, and drove 5+ hours to see a band that we paid almost 200$ for, just to not be let in. There was no choice to even wear a mask. They have potent, unique, and delicious flavors in their drinks and food. Their lattes are fantastic, and when I have a sweet tooth the mocha shake is life. I love that they have different flavored quiches of the day. Make sure you ask for extra salsa when you order, because once you have tried their salsa you wont be the same. I'll start by saying that I like their coffee and this location has solid wi-fi and room to chat with friends or fire up the laptop and get work done. My main complaint with this store and a couple of the other Collectivo locations is the speed at which the workers deliver your order. Unless you're ordering a drip coffee, you end up waiting a ridiculous amount of time. The last time I was there, I waited 15 minutes for a simple latte and there was no one else waiting for orders! There were two people at the coffee machine; one was filling orders and the other was on her phone and they were intermittently chatting. There doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency from the staff. So I will go there for drip coffee only. It's a shame because they could be so much better. read more

The service was a little slow and I was a little surprised how many baristas they had with only one making coffee. No one was in front of me and it took him 10 min. to make a cappuccino. I should preface this by saying that I am not a huge coffee drinker, but the coffee at Alterra is darn good. My wife got a pound of Ethiopian for her birthday, and I got a pound of an Alterra blend a week later for my birthday. We love them both. I really like the atmosphere at this location. It's comfortable and warm, but has a cool industrial feel as this is their main roasting center. I think it's pretty cool that you get to watch the coffee get roasted. The coffee drinks and other liquids they make in-house are great, and though I haven't tried any of their sandwiches myself, the wife says the Smoked Salmon sandwich is really good. read more

Good espresso, they had a Tanzanian coffee dialed up for the day. I tried this as a mocha and it had fairly balanced flavor. This one might be better as a latte. I'll go for that next time. They do their own roasting to supply their satellite locations. Huge Probat (possibly a GO75, circa 1960's) roasters with conveyers to load the hopper and vacuum chutes to raise the cooled beans to a hoper near the ceiling for filling bags. Colectivo (formerly Alterra) Coffee's new brownies are super disappointing. They are dry, dry, dry, don't have a nice crispy top, chewy edge or fudgy center. The flavor is only marginal. Their old, old, old cream cheese brownies were a Milwaukee favorite. WHY did they discontinue for this downer brownie? Notes: Love watching the bakery. Coffee orders were quite backed up considering the tons of people working behind the counter and I didn't see a lot of curbside orders. Just my two cents (which doesn't go very FAR here). This Riverwest Colectivo is no exception to that statement and is one of their better locations with lots of lovely outdoor seating available for when the weather is nice and warm. With it's close proximity to bike trails, this Colectivo is a popular pit stop for cyclers looking for a quick break. Their food options are on the slightly smaller size, which makes them a great choice if you don't want to feel bogged down the rest of the day. You can't go wrong with the Troubadour bakery items, but some of my favorites are the coconut macaroons and breakfast burritos. Yum! read more

Good coffee, nice space for working solo or meeting a friend, excellent staff. This clientele is the sort that fills the bike parking, and the car parking lot is rarely full. There's a better selection of food than other coffee shops, some of the breakfast choices go beyond just a light breakfast. For example the breakfast sandwich with the egg and biscuit is actually pretty big, filling, and messy (can't eat it riding on your bicycle, or at least not without getting into an accident). Some sketchy vagabond types hang around outside, this made me a little uneasy about my bicycle. Smells great! Aroma of Coffee is everywhere in this warehouse-like location. Industrial Machines are not only visible from the coffeeshop, but they are rather giants busy at work gently vibrating the room. Loud rumbles are soothing, not disrupting. There is a sense of calmness and peace here. I ordered a coffee that would have cost me $5-$7 at Intelligentsia and at Alterra it was only $2.50 for a large. I watched her filter my fresh ground beans with carefully measured hot water at the precise temperature for a desired outcome! What a treat! All the tables were taken so I asked a stranger if i could join her. She was friendly i sat and worked for two hours uninterrupted. They also sell food, baked goodies, and elaborate coffee and tea drinks. The ambiance is industrial, modern, clean with somewhat of a warm lodge feel. Our family go to this location often, I haven't always liked the lattes or food at Colectivo, but their regular coffee is usually a winner. I tend to get my lattes at Starbucks, anyway me and my wife along with my wife's grandmother went to Colectivo this past Wednesday before Thanksgiving; my wife ordered a Cowboy cookie which is significantly smaller than previous years. My wife ordered the Chorizo Burrito and a Chai Tea, she had no complaints. Grandma who is vegan ordered a Chai Tea and some vegan sandwich she enjoyed. I ordered a regular medium coffee and a Sunrise Breakfast Sandwich which was very good, but a bit small. I would suggest they offer more than 3 orange slices with the sandwich especially given the price of the sandwich. This leads to my biggest complaint about Colectivo, which is the price of their food. I figured that's due to the fact they usually buy local products. My other complaint is that a lot of their food is microwaved, oddly enough the food is still quite tasty. Overall, we enjoyed our experience, we met some friends and had a good time. read more

Met with some individuals for the first time today at the Humbolt location. Been to other Milwaukee Colectivo locations and this was a really nice spot. The blend between coffee shop and brewery had a very crafty, urban feel. It was beautiful out so we sat out on the patio/garden which had the most relaxing atmosphere. I've had an excellent experience at both the Lakefront and Oakland Colectivo locations and this one set the bar for top outdoor spot. I'll be going back again. read more

I am a fan of this location over most others for a variety of reasons. -Brew bar = you can get pour overs -Outdoor seating. Doesn't compare to the lakefront location, but the lines here are shorter, plus its across from a park. -THEY HAVE AN AMPLE PARKING LOT. And if you prefer to bus, they're very close to a variety of stops. -This is where they roast all of the Colectivo beans! Peak over the bar and get a more behind-the-scenes view of everyone's favorite local coffeeshops. Downside? The registers are kind of cramped by the front door, so when the line is longer, it can be a bit tricky, but that's not really a big deal. Thumbs up! read more
