Stopped in one weekday morning for a hot beverage and some bakery. It's part of a larger building with large windows on the front. There are a couple of basic small café tables out front. Inside is a large space that is brightly lit through the plate glass windows. There are tables set up throughout, mainly for couples, but they could be combined for larger groups. There are also stools at the counter for seating. There wasn't anyone else in the place when I arrived, so it was very quiet. Got greeted by the friendly cashier/barista. I wanted to get a London Fog Tea Latte, but they were out of Earl Grey, so I ordered a Chai Latte instead. They didn't have a scone, but the cinnamon roll with icing looked pretty good too. Offered to warm it up, and I said definitely yes. It took a few minutes for the drink to be ready, which means they let the tea steep properly. When it got delivered to my table, I was pleasantly surprised by the latte art in the foam. I have never had a barista give me that special treatment and was thankful. Canary has been my go to coffee shop to study! I appreciate that they're open until 9pm, which is a lot later compared to the other coffee shops nearby. They have your staple classic coffee drinks, but they also have a seasonal menu with more experimental options and a variety of sweet treats too! The baristas are always super friendly and helpful if you're not sure on what to order. Coffee great, however staff is absolutely abysmal!!!!!! We were visiting for the weekend and came in the first day and experienced great coffee and service from a young gentleman. We came in the next morning and it was like a different coffee bar with brand new employees. We ordered 2 coffees to drink at establishment. When my son went the to counter to get the coffee that we had ordered he realized that the rude OLDER male worker who was making the coffee put the coffee in a paper cup. My son asked to have the coffee put in a ceramic mug and the rude male worker said "you won't take it?" My son responded politely that he would like it in a ceramic mug as he ordered. The OLDER guy got pissed and dumped the coffee from the paper cup into a mug creating a huge mess. When my son brought the mug with the coffee in it to the table there was coffee all over the mug and plate and we had to wipe it off. The worker then proceeded to purposely not make the other coffee that we had ordered. After he delivered several orders and approached our table with something (a sandwich) we didn't order he said "what the fuck?" and continued to walk around the coffee bar to find who had ordered a sandwich. When I said to the guy (after 15 min of waiting for the second coffee) that we were waiting for another coffee, he asked what the other order was and proceeded to make it and bring it to our table several minutes later. The way he acted and treated us was AWEFUL and EMBARRASSING!!!!! I'm glad we were only visiting Milwaukee for the weekend. The chances that we'll ever be back in Milwaukee are slim as we were only there for the Marathon that was taking place. I really hope that this coffee bar gets their act together, however I have a feeling that this Older rude gentleman was the manager I didn't ask as it didn't matter because we won't be back! read more

I liked the coffee here quite a bit and would definitely go here again. It's very aesthetically pleasing as well and water was provided for customer's to get themselves. These are not your gas station or Starbucks coffees, where you have to pour all kinds of stuff into it to be able to drink your coffee. These are coffees that you want to try on their own. I'm sure their lattes are great as well, but do yourself a favor and try one of their roasts black. If I lived here, this would be a weekly stop. They have all the standard espresso beverages and some seasonal specialties. I ordered the salted caramel mocha from their seasonal menu, which was lovely. It was prepared as a usual caramel mocha with the addition of sea salt sprinkled atop the foam. This is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to prepare a salted caramel mocha. The espresso was smooth though not overly rich or strong (I prefer strong). The beverage was sweet by not overly so (which was good!). The service is kind. The atmosphere is chic and comfortable. It's been some times since I've been to this cute coffee shop! Popped in recently to do some co-working with a friend, and to grab a tasty drink. They have a simple menu, but in a good way. Pretty much all the cafe drinks/staples you need. Today I opted for a chai tea latte, and boy it was tasty. Here they make your drink in a lovely mug if you're not taking it to-go, and there's something about it that makes the experience better. The chai wasn't too sweat, and the fluffy foam on top was just right. The cafe itself it's nice and airy, with high ceilings and big windows. Not over done with decor, just simplicity in their plants. Their music is good vibes and I found both employees I talked to to be very friendly. They have plenty of plugs for you electronics, and various bench, chair, couch, and outdoor seating options. I'd say the only bummers here are that parking isn't a treat, and the area does have a few homeless folks around who like to wonder inside the coffee bar. read more

Another first in Milwaukee for us was Canary Coffee Bar as the start of our day exploring the city. The cashier was very friendly and courteous. I ordered the Coffee all day = in a mug and a cinnamon roll. My daughter ordered an Iced Dirty Chai Tea Latte and the Ham and Cheese Tartine. The coffee was just the way I like it, not strong, but mellow. The cinnamon roll would have been so much better had it been warmed, which was not offered. The icing was very hard as well as the roll itself. The inner portion of the roll was a bit softer and the cinnamon was dispersed throughout. My daughter's latte was was sweet to her liking and the expresso wasn't very prevalent taste wise. The ham and cheese tartine was ok. The sourdough was very good, but the ham was thickly cut and the substitution of Cotijo cheese on top (they ran out of Gruyère) changed the entire flavor profile of the Tartine. Also, they didn't ask if the substitution would be ok, they just did it. If asked, she would have declined it. Overall the place is cute and has a relaxing vibe. Came for the avocado tartine. They were already out by 10:45. I got the last of the cold brew. Settled for the ham and gruyere tartine but it was a disgrace. Thick cuts of cold ham and unmelted cheese with too much mustard. When asked about having it toasted properly was dismissed and told the bread was. It was very lightly toasted. Especially displeased since waiting for it took forever (why since it wasn't properly cooked), so no lunch break and starving. Stopped in as I was attending a trade show at the WI center, and even though I'm local I wanted to change up my work day. Upon entering Canary it was already loud and chaotic in a sorts, similar to an overcrowded bird cage(if we want to keep on theme). There were no open seats and I honestly didn't know how to order a drink nor who worked there. Luckily someone had just left and I grabbed their table. I took their dirty dishes to the counter to try and figure out how this place worked. A man behind the counter who was actively working on making a beverage approached me and took my order. I didn't pay, but he ended up bring me my drink, food order, and bakery item. I had to ask him for water and silverware/napkins because they had none to help yourself to-- which is an area for improvement, especially with what appeared to be only one employee working. I inquired about the wifi password, the password worked but the wifi did not! I brought this up to the same guy who took my order and he said: yeah a lot of people are on it now, try restarting your computer.....well let's just say that was not a very productive morning. Surrounding me were several people on live Zoom/Teams Meetings in addition to a 5 person group meeting which all contributed to the loud noise level. So I basically took in the plants and enjoyed my coffee and food. Expect for the muffin was a waste of calories, it was super dry. They do not have matcha, which I found interesting for a coffee shop of their caliber. I had to go back to counter to pay for my items, which I found extremely odd for todays mannerisms-- given I didn't receive table service. I don't think I'll find myself returning here to work ever again, only for chatting and coffee. It's nice to have another option for visitors to the area given the amount hotels nearby, but I guess as a local I'll stay away. read more

Great little coffee spot in downtown. When I stopped in late morning on a Friday, they were slammed. A line to the door and just 2 people working. I came here to switch up my study spot since I am back to studying for my second licensing exam. DRINK: I ordered a 12oz caramel latte (total of $6.75). The latte art is gorgeous. The caramel was lightly mixed in and the drink wasn't too sweet. I really liked my order. SERVICE: Overall, the service was prompt. Of note, for coffee shop studying, you will need to purchase something. Luckily, everything here is very affordable. The staff was super friendly. PARKING: I paid $7 to park in one of the lots right by the coffee shop. Unfortunately, free street parking was limited. WIFI: This is where Canary lost stars. The WiFi connection was horrible. I was only there for an hour before I got kicked off the network and couldn't get back in. It made my studying extremely difficult. I ended up having to go back home for more reliable WiFi. VIBE: Around 10 AM, the coffee shop got way too noisy. I had to bust out my headphones and that didn't really help. This is more of a social coffee shop rather than a study spot. read more
