Caramel Tres Leches Cake: Ethiopia is where wild coffee plants originated on our planet, but Yemen is where coffee was first harvested, roasted, and brewed back in the 15th century. Coffee is now ubiquitous with daily life in America, which brings me to Qamaria Coffee. Hatem and Munif are two Yemeni entrepreneurs with a passion for Yemeni Coffee and the joint goal of wanting to share it with the world. They founded Qamaria Coffee in 2019 to accomplish this task and in January 2024, they opened a location near Milwaukee in Greenfield, WI. Qamaria offers a variety of dessert options, including a Chocolate Tres Leches, Pistachio Tres Leches, and Caramel Tres Leches cakes. I went with the caramel version, which is described by the cafe as "A decadent caramel treat inspired by tres leches cake, creamy, sweet, and irresistibly smooth". If you've never had Tres Leches Cake, it's a light sponge cake soaked in three types of milk (evaporated, condensed, and whole) that's popular in Latin America. The cake originated in Nicaragua during the 19th century, so on first glance it's not exactly a Yemeni dessert. Doing some research, Middle Eastern variations exist that feature cardamom or rose water and some Qamaria locations do have a Rose Tres Leches. It's fine that the Greenfield location did not have that variety as I honestly would have got the caramel version anyway. My slice was perfectly moist as there was plenty of milk soaked in, but not so much that it made a mess or compromised the structure of the cake. The bottom layer was soft and Tiramisu-like in texture, while the cream on top was rich and thick. Personally, I found the caramel flavor to be mild, but delicious. This coffee shop/cafe is definitely the place to be! I discovered it recent when a new friend suggested we got get a coffee and hang out! It's such a cool space with a nice vibe during the day. It wasn't really busy for loud on an early evening on a Saturday, however I did notice that later in the night it got extremely busy! The coffee I ordered was really delicious and the service was friendly. The place is really clean and there were lots of different options for sitting, which I thought were nice. Stopped in Saturday afternoon it was pretty busy but I was able to find a nice spot to sit and enjoy my lovely Carmel macchiato latte and pistachio cake. The service was fast and friendly. I loved the atmosphere plenty of seating, even though it was full it wasn't super loud still very relaxing. My only suggestion would be if they could put the pagers on vibrate instead, I like the idea of the pagers so names are constantly being yelled out but the pagers going off none stop was a little bothersome to me. Back at Qamaria again! I got the oatmilk shaken espresso and it was perfect! Not too sweet, but had just enough flavor! I wasn't the biggest fan of the potato pie (the pastry was very thick and kind of sweet), but the filling was tasty and it was nice to try something different. I had a bite of my friend's pistachio tres Leches and it was fantastic! It's very sweet, but that's to be expected. The space is quite large and a lot of seating. I was surprised at how big this place is! Plenty of spots for meeting up with friends, working or enjoying your own company. I stopped in after an appointment and ordered the Qamaria latte with a the honeycomb cheese bread. The qamaria latte is a specialty of theirs. When ordering they asked about my milk choice and if I wanted more sugar. I went with regular milk and didn't add more sugar. After ordering, they give you a pager and you can head to the counter. I didn't realize how big this coffee shop was! It's beautiful and very open. The service was great. We got a beef, chicken, and pizza hand pie. All were delicious, but our favorite was the chicken! It has the perfect calm, but modern vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. We ordered the Iced Caramel Apple Crisp Latte and the Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso, both were so good! The flavors were balanced, and you could actually taste the good quality coffee while still getting the sweetness and seasonal notes. It wasn't very secure and when taking the first sip it popped completely off and spilled everywhere, including clothes (total heartbreak moment)! It's big and has lots of tables to accommodate a large crowd, which is nice, since it does look like it gets quite full. Being on keto, I just stuck with the coffee and skipped the pastries, though I've been hearing good things about them as well. All the coffee comes sweetened unless you ask for no sugar. Maribtheir medium roast with cardamom. I did enjoy the ethnic experience, though I must say, I've never had coffee with cardamom before so it was a bit powerful, though pleasantly so. Try this with spice on the side! Or the Sana'a, which will have cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. Sheeba Cascara coffee is more like tea than coffee. It's brewed with the coffee husks rather than the beans. It's actually a very nice tea, but if you need more coffee, this is not it. I asked for the spices (ginger and cinnamon) on the side, to try the tea/coffee on its own. After the first few sips of pure tea, I added the spices, and it was definitely an added experience. The pistachio syrup (very green) was drizzled onto the cup's bottom, and friend really did give it a big stir with the straw, but you could see the green still sticking to the bottom. Had a really nice time at Qamaria Coffee yesterday! The Adeni Chai was some of the best chai I've had. Not too sweet and perfectly spiced. But the Honeycomb Bread is a must-order at Qamaria. When I arrived, I saw folks ordering it by the tray, so I figured it must be good. It was. The bread is fluffy and warm with a rich cream cheese filling topped with a generous drizzle of honey and what looks like sesame seeds. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered a second piece to take home with me. The barista was pleasant enough and service was efficient. The pager system was so nice -- I've never seen it implemented at a coffee shop before. It was refreshing to be able to get settled instead of hovering near the bar lest you miss your name being called. It was definitely on the warmer side inside the coffee shop, and at one point mid-morning the temperature felt a little uncomfortable. I'd recommend avoiding a seat by the windows since there aren't really any shades to adjust. Also, Qamaria was jam-packed by 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning, making the volume a little loud and the space feel a tad cramped. If you're sensitive to those kinds of things, maybe go on a weekday? It has a large seating area, with plenty of spots for groups of 2-6 people. The chairs are comfortable. It's bright with lots of windows with a southern exposure. The noise level was not too bad. You could have a conversation without raising your voice. I ordered one of their special tea lattes, Aden Shai Latte. It has a strong flavor, due to the Cardamon. I learned earlier that it's a perfect companion to one of their many delicious pastries. I would normally get one of their excellent leches cakes, but today I got the "Cheese Honeycomb Bread". A filling treat, that has soft dough, like a honeycomb with everyone filled with soft cheese. It was warm with a little honey drizzled on top. I went for the Mufawaar, a medium roast coffee with cardamom and cream. Cardamom is a spice that comes from the seeds of plants in the ginger family. I combined it with the pistachio tres leches. The tres leches was out of this world, perfect, just perfect. Man, did I enjoy that tres leches. The only downside is that it's in the opposite direction from where I usually head, as I tend to go downtown. A unique touch I appreciated was the free Qur'ans available, thanks to the Islamic Society. It was a lovely way to embrace the shop's cultural vibe. While it was absolutely delicious, I was expecting the inside to be creamier, but it had a flaky texture instead. I highly recommend checking this place out!
