    Unassuming strip mall goodness
    Steven T.

This was the new restaurant of the week and I would stop over for breakfast because of one menu item which is the shakshouka. This is basically a hipster bakery serving up in house amazing baked goods with different breads and sweet things that look like more the artisan quality. It's Culver's style, pay at the register and put your number on the table. Service was fast for how full the small eating areas filled up first open on a Saturday. The age range was kids to seniors and everyone in between. Shakshouka is not on many menus in the Milwaukee area so when I see one I will always try it and like bbq sauce each one has there own idea of how to make it. It's basically a tomato stew with onions and peppers topped with eggs and served with some form of bread. This is the most basic version I have had with just stew and 2 poached eggs with 4 slices of toasted baguette. There is no meat in this dish which is unusual for me because I'm a carnivore and a testament to my honest foodie in me. My first thought was that it's delicious in its simple style. The toasted baguette was nicely toasted but not enough for the bowl. I had an order of breakfast potatoes not knowing what they would end up being and to my surprise a potato pancake hash browns with real potatoes golden outside with a crispy shell. Ok separate paragraph for the 2 poached eggs because this one is the star of plate. Big pat on the back for who ever mad the perfect poached eggs which are messed up so often in restaurants and come out of a mold. This is the real deal poached eggs in its truest form with the perfect yoke, thank you for your mastery of the poached eggs. Overall this place this is like a triple D's episode with a a strip mall cranking out an amazing dish and hitting it out of the park, nice job SFBC.

Heard about this place because of its great cinnamon morning bun and it certainly didn't disappoint. The service was great and atmosphere was great with a great layout of bakery goods behind the glass panels. You have to go here for one of the best bakeries in town and the best morning buns! Highly recommend!

Great all around experience with Sugar & Flour! About a month ago I reached out to order custom cookies for my son's birthday party. Karen was really responsive and helpful on getting it all set up. I simply sent some images via email that I had in mind, and the bakery team made it come to life. The order was for two dozen cookies - half lightening smiley faces, and half checkered in the shape of a "1" - loved how they turned out! The price was $45 for the #1, and $39 for the faces on rounds. Seems a tad pricey but I also don't have anything to compare them to. Either way, they were great and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the birthday party! When we went to pick up our order, we realized it is indeed a full cafe with plenty of breakfast and lunch items. Good timing because we were starving. My husband ordered the Turkey & Bacon sandwich and seemed to like it. I opted for the harvest salad and thought it had lots of flavor. Atop of mixed greens were craisins, pumpkin seeds (my fave), chunks of goat cheese, apple slices, and most notably big pieces of thick bacon. The tarragon vinaigrette dressing was really good also - I'd love to have a bottle of that in my fridge. Thanks S&F team!

I don't understand how this little suburban downtown area can have such a high concentration of cute breakfast and coffee cafes. Excellent coffee and real croissant, right next to a Post Office, peaceful and spacious. Lots of very good baked goods. Plenty of tables for a leisurely peaceful coffee and scone. Wonderful place.

Enjoyed a great breakfast at this cute little place. Ordered at the counter & staff brought out our food. Very courteous service and delicious food. Enjoyed the croissant sandwich and a vanilla bean latte. Couldn't resist bringing a morning bun home to share with my family. Definitely recommend. Next time, I'll need to get cookies too.

    Pot roast sandwich

Sugar & flour is a great little bakery and cafe that makes surprisingly good food in addition to the yummy treats like cookies and pastries (on top of their coffee which is good too)! I came into Sugar & Flour and had an iced vanilla latte which was delicious and I drank the whole thing in about 3 minutes. I'm not sure if they make their own syrups but the vanilla flavor was nice and strong which I liked. After my coffee I decided to stick around the cafe for lunch. I had a pot roast sandwich which comes with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and melted Brie cheese on a nice soft piece of bread. The Brie made the sandwich creamy and rich, the onions provided a nice sweet element, and the pot roast was flavorful and NOT dry as pot roast can often be. I was very pleasantly surprised by this sandwich. Because of all the dessert options tempting me, I couldn't resist getting a sweet treat after I finished my sandwich (which also came with chips). I had a homemade oatmeal cream pie which was very yummy. I was very satisfied with my meal as well as the service I received while visiting Sugar & Flour. The space itself is a nice size with about 7 tables inside and there is a covered indoor space with full windows (kind of like a greenhouse) right outside of the cafe that is shared by all the establishments in this particular part of the strip. They have wifi so you can sit there and do any work you might have if you are getting tired of other coffee shops. I'd recommend giving Sugar & Flour a try if you are in the Greendale/Greenfield area - I'll definitely be back!

This is a great option for breakfast or lunch when in the Greendale Village Center. Even worth a special stop. Not a large menu but all are interesting Had omelette the other day - made to my order - light and fluffy - with lots of sliced ham And recently for lun- tomato basil soup and a grilled cheese - what could be better? My wife had the quiche - done just right - crust firm not mushy Relaxed casual dining room Get your own coffee refill. And I challenge you to leave without having a cookie or other some other treat Greendale need more dining options like this. Check it out Back again for breakfast. Great Quiche. And we never leave without cookies

This is the most adorable cookie shop. I first found them via a specialty website, and when I was in the area, decided to try them in person. Sugar and Flour has handcrafted cookies, in small batches. They always have at least a dozen different types, both soft and crunchy, to satisfy any preference. This was the first time I'd tried a freshly-made gluten-free cookie and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The texture was slightly different than a flour cookie, but not so much so that it was noticeable in a bad way. Of course, anything in chocolate is going to be good and I'm not convinced that the chocolate wasn't what made it good. I also sampled a cranberry oat cookie and I was sorry I hadn't picked up a couple of extras to eat later. It was chewy and sweet and tart all at the same time. I don't think you can go wrong at Sugar and Flour. Cookies are a nice alternative to the cupcake shops that seem to spring up everywhere. Cookies are less guilt-inducing and easier to hide when you don't want to share.

Cut-out cookies that coordinate with the current season this one was back to school! Art class!

Coffee is now ubiquitous with daily life in America, which brings me to Qamaria Coffee. Hatem and Munif are two Yemeni entrepreneurs with a passion for Yemeni Coffee and the joint goal of wanting to share it with the world. They founded Qamaria Coffee in 2019 to accomplish this task and in January 2024, they opened a location near Milwaukee in Greenfield, WI. Qamaria offers a variety of dessert options, including a Chocolate Tres Leches, Pistachio Tres Leches, and Caramel Tres Leches cakes. I went with the caramel version, which is described by the cafe as "A decadent caramel treat inspired by tres leches cake, creamy, sweet, and irresistibly smooth". If you've never had Tres Leches Cake, it's a light sponge cake soaked in three types of milk (evaporated, condensed, and whole) that's popular in Latin America. The cake originated in Nicaragua during the 19th century, so on first glance it's not exactly a Yemeni dessert. Doing some research, Middle Eastern variations exist that feature cardamom or rose water and some Qamaria locations do have a Rose Tres Leches. It's fine that the Greenfield location did not have that variety as I honestly would have got the caramel version anyway. My slice was perfectly moist as there was plenty of milk soaked in, but not so much that it made a mess or compromised the structure of the cake. The bottom layer was soft and Tiramisu-like in texture, while the cream on top was rich and thick. Personally, I found the caramel flavor to be mild, but delicious. As it is served chilled, it paired nicely with a hot cup of coffee (which they have a plethora of options to choose from). Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews

In front is a sunken tree garden that must be a neat place to enjoy your food when the weather is nice. It's very shaded and has nice benches and a relaxing vibe to it. It's also the only place that I saw to sit down and enjoy your food. Inside the building is quite large but only has about 4 tables to stand next to without any seats. I think most people either go eat the food in their car or take it home. I ordered 2 scoops of their frozen soft serve custard. The flavored scoops were vanilla and turtle pecan. It cost $5 and change which was a real value too. I stood in a short line and had my dessert in less than 5 minutes. They have several lines to stand in to serve the many customers who come here. The vanilla scoop was rich and delicious. The turtle pecan scoop rocked my world! It had many half pecans in it and the custard was perfect in a buttery like taste that made me what to order another serving but in the interest of my waistline I decided not to. This custard impressed me. They also serve burgers, hot dogs, etc. too and I am sure it's all good here. This is a big operation that serves many people. I counted somewhere between 15-20 people working there all dressed in their white uniforms behind the counter. I wish we had a Kopp's where I live!

I would habe given 5 stars if it were for custards only, but burger and fries were quite poor…read more Reading thru a lot of old and new reviews, both from Yelp and internet in general, I got the sense that burgers used to be a lot better in the old days. Having tried them for the first time, I have to say, I can completely understand why they would say that, even without prior knowledge. I could definitely see the potential from the first bite of the burger. Patties were cooked right and gave me pleasant feeling of decent bite, except for being a bit bland. Buns definitely did not add anything to the totality of the burger, staying consistent with what everyone says. Made me wonder what kind of buns they used to use that made it better. Did not care for the soggy, green leafy part of lettuce they shoved into it. Like a normal person, I prefer a bit of crunch in my burger lettuce, but it did nothing but take away from the experience. I was sold on the idea of fried onions, but my onions didn't look or feel fried. Maybe my expectations were different on what fried onions meant? I was imagining deep fried battered onions, but maybe what I got was non-battered fried onions. Either way, it didn't leave any impression. I think I also made the mistake of asking for ketchup and mustard without specifically asking just how much. My burger ended up being too sour due to too much of both. I think I read on their website somewhere that I was supposed to be able to taste the specialness of their Wisconsin cheese, but everything else about the burger was so overpowering that I barely could tell if there was any cheese at all. Fries were SUPER soggy from the get go. I *only* brought the bad outside to open it immediately after grabbing them, so it wasn't like they stayed in the bag long enough to get soggy. Now.. having said all that. Custards were amazing! Definitely at the top of my list of frozen custards I've had thus far. The girl at the counter had me try both the daily specials and both were super good. So good that I'll probably drive my girls an hour out here just to buy them custards, especially as it gets warmer. If it were just for burgers and fries, I might have given them two stars. But since the name of the institution is Kopp's Frozen Custard, I'm more inclined to be a bit forgiving.. I had them at 3 stars originally, but I think I'll bump it up to 4, landing them personally at 3.5.
