There are not many bakeries in Milwaukee that have fun/experimental flavors so this is one of those few. They do stay busy on a Sunday morning when I came there was a line but they moved quickly. It's a smaller shop but they have a great selection. The workers were very nice so great guest service. I got the Strawberry Chinese Knot and it was fabulous. I definitely would come back.
Top 5 cinnamon roll I've ever had in my life and the zaatar and olive focaccia bread was to die for.
I never knew this place existed until today. It is tucked away on Ivanhoe, which is now closed with tables in the street which would be nice if it was warm out. But not today. It is a popular place and I can see why. Everything is so fresh and the cinnamon roll was like a pillow of yummy dough with cinnamon and cream cheese frosting. It was so light and satisfying. Unlike some cinnamon rolls that way you down. The coffee was hot and flavorful and there's even an option for oat milk out with the half-and-half for your creamer. Staff is so welcoming and all of the other items look fantastic. I can't wait to go back!
I was told to come here for the cinnamon rolls, but the real showstopper was the caramelized onion and mushroom croissant. I'm not sure if it was a bit of gruyere on it with the fresh thyme, but whole combo is beyond delicious!! The croissant structure is so flaky & crispy - I haven't had one this well made since France a few years ago! Also highly recommend picking up a brown butter miso cookie and sesame (with tahini) banana bread - you will not regret it!!
I became a fan of Poppy Bakery at the Brookfield Farmer's Market, and now I try to make the trek to the east side bakery whenever I can to score some goodies! The service is always excellent, and if you can grab a table it's so nice to sit by the window, enjoy a Valentine coffee drink, and dig in to what whatever goodness you ordered. When the weather is nice you can sit outside at the picnic tables in the plaza. My favorites are the bacon brioche buns, the brownie, the cinnamon rolls, the coffee cake and.... Let's be honest - I love literally everything on the menu! Don't miss out on Poppy Bakery.
First time here. Have been wanting to come since they opened and were reviewed in the paper. Came on a Sunday morning before noon, and there was a line pretty much out the door. It didn't take very long to get to the counter. As you wait, you get to check out all the amazing looking pastries and bakery items that they offer that day. There are a few small tables inside, or you can sit outside at some picnic tables that are in the closed off section of the street. Got a friendly greeting from the cashier and help with the order. We ended up with a couple of items to eat right away: Ginger Apple Scone and Cardamom Knot. We also got a Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie to take home. We would have liked to get a couple of hot teas, but all they offer is coffee. They have water available, so we had that instead. After a couple of quick minutes, our box with our order was ready. We sat at a table by the window. It's close quarters, so it's very likely that you'll be hearing (and possibly joining) other conversations. The Ginger Apple Scone was amazing. It has a thin sugar glaze, bits of ginger and apple, and a nice texture. The Cardamom Knot was a disappointment. It's made with brioche and was just not very substantial in taste or texture. Glad I tried it but would choose something else next time. Definitely a place that I would stop in again. Hot water with tea bags would be much appreciated.

I drove out of my way for this treat and it did not disappoint! I parked on Prospect Ave at Ivanhoe and found this cute bakery in the secluded area between Prospect and North Ave. I arrived 10 minutes before closing so the bakery case was rather empty. But I easily found two things I wanted to try. I was greeted so kindly and my cinnamon roll and coffee were prepared quickly. I could not resist an additional coffee cake and sat down to try them all. As the young man behind the counter said, the cinnamon roll and coffee cake are the best around. Yes they are! I am not a coffee connoisseur by any means, but I immediately knew this was the smoothest coffee I have had. The cinnamon roll had just the right amount of frosting on it, and the wonderful cinnamon cake came through well. The coffee cake was another perfectly made treat and I have to admit I ate them both at once, not wanted to waste a moment of their flavors. The bakery is little and inviting. I enjoy watching the baking process in action and my diversion to find a great coffee and treat did not disappoint.
Poppy Bakery is such a great spot for a morning treat. We picked up a bunch of yummy goodies, and the cinnamon roll was absolutely amazing. They do have a few tables to sit and enjoy your treats, but space is limited, so grab a seat when you can. A perfect way to start the day.
The baked goods at this bakery are so good, I kind of don't even know why I bake myself. I had a perfect chocolate chip cookie, a perfect chocolate brownie with sea salt and that's really all you need in life. But on top of that, I got the bacon, parm, and goat cheese brioche bun and the strawberry rhubarb brioche bun with chamomile cream and a poppyseed crumble. Sooo yeah, hanging up my apron and just going here when I need baked goods! There are still things I want to try like their sesame banana bread and miso brown butter cookie. Be prepared for a long line when you go, but rest assured, it moves quickly.
Loved the lineup of baked goods here! Everything was beautiful, creative, and truly unique for Milwaukee. If it's in Chicago there would be a line haha. My picky toddler loved the miso chocolate cookie. The bakery itself is super cute, and we only waited about 5 minutes for our order on a Saturday at 10am--not bad at all. There's some indoor seating and a shared patio space (from the old Crossroads Collective), which makes it a nice spot to hang out, too.
Love when new spots open up in Milwaukee and I was so glad a friend asked me to check out Poppy Bakery with her! Everything was so good and flavorful and felt homemade. I loved the open kitchen concept and being able to see into the baking area and seeing the ladies at work! The coffee cake was moist and flavorful and my sisters brownie was super dense and delicious and my friend's pastries were incredible as well! This focaccia bread was to die for. I dream about it and will be back for it. The place has little seating but with the patio/outdoor space outside it is totally okay! I will be back again for that focaccia.
I love that we have this bakery in town now. I went over the summer when it first opened and have been back multiple times since. The staff is great, parking isn't, and seating is limited. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the treats I've picked up. Some of my friends and family's favorites are the coffee cake, cinnamon roll, brownie, chocolate chip cookie, and any of the brioche flavors they've come up with. I'd definitely recommend a visit!!
I had never been here before but have seen the hype! It did not disappoint! So many options especially with fall flavors right now! I went with the bacon brioche bun and it was delicious! My friends all got many different things, and everyone said it was all delicious! It was packed in there to order, but there is a lot of seating outside to enjoy your pastries. With the line being line, it still went very quickly! Will be back to try more goodies! read more
If you haven't been to Poppy yet, GO!! It's amazing. I haven't had a pastry I didn't like. They're all so so delicious. They definitely don't cut corners. The ingredients are always seasonal and fresh. They do have some staples, but I love that they change up their menu a bit depending on the season. A couple must haves are the ham & cheese croissants, coffee cake, cinnamon rolls, and whatever knot they have available. The cookies are also delicious. You really can't go wrong. The interior is cute too, but has limited space! Luckily there is an outdoor area with picnic tables right outside. Can't even keep track of how much I've spent here now, but every penny is worth it!! read more
Poppy Bakery is hands down my favorite bakery in Milwaukee! Everything is delicious, but the brownies are absolutely award-winning and seriously to-die-for. There's something about the quality, creativity, and homemade feel here that keeps me coming back. If you have a sweet tooth, Poppy Bakery is a must. One of my favorite spots in the city and always worth the stop! read more

Just went for the first time around 9:30am Saturday. I figured it was best to go early before they run out possibly? There was a line but we made our way through quickly. I'm happy the cat cafe was repurposed and the design of the space works really well for a bakery! Excited to see what they offer in the future. Currently hours are limited to Saturday and Sunday but they have plans to expand that in the future. So we chose 4 items to try today but will definitely be back for other items like the biscuits and brownies! The owner was working the register at the moment and was very friendly. Here's what we tried, all were delicious and fresh tasting. -Sour Cream Coffee Cafe -Strawberry Rhubarb Brioche Bun (our favorite of the four!) seasonal -Sesame Banana Bread -Raspberry Rhubarb Bostock (seasonal) Happy to live close to this bakery and look forward to trying more things soon! read more

Love love love! I've actually never had their pastries before coming to their storefront so everything was a nice surprise! I love the rustic vibes, a few tables and chairs inside but the alley has some nice outdoor seating available. Everything we got was 1) too pretty to eat but also 2) so good. Their brioche was soft and pillowy, I liked their seasonal pastries (had the rhubarb), and just everyone was so sweet and welcoming. I can't wait to frequent this place! read more
Super fluffy big cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. But what made it big and fluffy was what left it just short of 5 stars. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed this pastry treat. It just had a more cake like fluffy texture than some other cinnamon rolls, making it almost cake/breadlike. Great frosting! Cute shop and the croissants looked amazing- want to try next time! read more

The freshest baked goods! We had a hard time deciding which ones to get so we tried so many and they have their regulars but seasonals as well. They know how to perfect their bread in different items and the level of sweetness too is perfectly made and not overbearing. Sweet sweet staff too! I came at around 11am so I think there weren't too many baked options left. The place had got such a cozy atmosphere, very fall-esque and has an easy vibe to it. I got an apple brioche bun because I was feeling fruity and it was actually so so good. I was worried that it was going to be too sweet with the cream filling but it was just the right amount of sweet. The service was quick as well which was amazing because I just wanted to get my pastry to go! I would def try to come here earlier in the day if you want more options. read more

Best bakery in Milwaukee. Easy. As someone who is always hunting for pastries, I was very excited to try this place. The wait was definitely worth it! I had never had her baking before, but I was blown away. I've been three times in three weeks, and every time I try something new. There really isn't a bad option. The cinnamon buns are exceptional, but I am always biased towards a good cinnamon bun. I would recommend going out of your way to try some of these baked goods, there is no chance you will regret it. read more

We were welcomed warmly when we walked in and the cashier gave great recommendations. we got the pesto focaccia, salted chocolate chip cookie, blackberry brioche and all were delicious. One of the best bakeries we've been to across many cities. read more

Just incredible! We had the bacon brioche buns & coffee... both excellent and we took plenty of cookies for later. It is just so beautiful in there! Minimalist and super comfortable. We felt very welcome by the entire staff. I wish we lived closer so we go every chance we get! Looking forward to our next visit and all the exciting additions to come!! read more

Everything was SO good!!! So happy a new bakery opened in Milwaukee. Has the most perfect and unique treats that taste delicious. Staff is incredibly sweet as well. Cinnamon roll was my favorite! read more
