This quaint little bakehouse never gets old. On the latest visit, my kiddos were excited to try a cinnamon roll knot (I think that was what it's called), covered in frosting. I mean what kid wouldn't be excited for that? So many freshly-made options to choose from, and this one was a winner. Definitely a very sweet-treat, and worth splitting a handful of ways, but boy was it tasty! I also grabbed a latte for myself, which I always enjoy here. I will say however, I wish they had other milk options beyond oat and whole milk. I say this with no means to complain, but both of those milk are very 'heavy' so whenever something like skim or almond is available, that's a personal preference for sure. Saturday, December 2025: My husband and I stopped at Matilda Bakehouse for a coffee and snack. The staff were very friendly and the cafe is spacious. They had a variety of baked goods to choose from- we opted for the cinnamon roll and the seasonal danish. We also ordered a cappuccino and an americano. The baked goods we had were okay. We were disappointed they wouldn't heat up the cinnamon roll, the reason they gave us was because the frosting would run and be messy. So the cinnamon roll wasn't very enjoyable. I liked the filling on the seasonal danish but I asked for it heated up and it was served at room temp. The coffee was good- we both thought it was weak for our liking but it had good flavor. Also to note, this place is very family-friendly. When we were in, there were a lot of children and families enjoying the space. I would love to come back and try the monkey bread; they were sold out when we arrived this morning and we were told it's a top-seller. read more

My first introduction to Matilda's was when a neighbor brought over a box of goodies to welcome until into the neighborhood. This happened again two weeks later from another neighborhood at which point I figured this was a local favorite. Since then, I've gone twice and had a variety of items: almond croissants, cookies, ham/cheese croissant, scones, cheesecake, etc. I have yet to be disappointed. Date of visit: September 15, 2024 We've started hitting a local bakery with some friends once a month with our first visit being local gem Matilda Bakehouse! The selection is a bit limited, especially on the savory side of things, so make sure that you get here early for the best options. We ended up staying for nearly two hours and never once felt like we were getting "the glare" to leave, which was nice. Also nice: The water available at no cost on the side counter. I didn't see an option to heat anything up, but maybe you just have to ask? Next time I come, I will try a coffee drink as well, this time around was just bakery items. My kouign amann was nearly as good as the one I had in Paris, though that one was salted caramel so it's a bit of an unfair comparison. This was my first stop at Matilda's and I'm already planning when I can go back. I got a box of 6 pastries to share with my friend and her kids- the four of us devoured them! Everything in the box was Abolsutely amazing. The crusts were so buttery and light! The fillings were packed with flavor, and the cheese danish was light and citrusy!the employees were so nice and welcoming. I was offered so great reccomdations! The prices were very reasonable- 5 pastries costs $22 and was worth every penny. If you are in the Fox point area, make it a point to stop for something sweet or savory! Very cozy place, although also spacious - you can bring a laptop and sit there for a while. I was asked if I'd like my danish warmed up; it turned out a little more crunchy than I prefer, but still very good. I will definitely come here again in a future. :) read more

I've enjoyed finding Matilda products in the past but was glad to see a brick and mortar! The location is easy to find, despite being in an area with not a whole lot around it. Our group enjoyed the chocolate almond pastry which was very good but very messy. The kids loved the cinnamon roll, and we also grabbed a to go back of the shortbread bites which are very tasty. They make a good iced chai too. They had a small side room with a large table which would be good for large groups or a smaller meeting. The spot is not a super convenient one but will definitely be back when I'm nearby next. read more

Great experience at Matilda's Bakehouse! Store was very large interior (enough room to do work for school/work) and comfortable seating. Staff were super friendly and very helpful with our orders! The coffee was very impressive! I got a hot coffee but my girlfriend got an iced oat milk salted caramel latte which she thought was the best coffee she's had in months. The food was also very good! We had the s'mores croissant, ham and cheese croissant and confetti cookie. Our favorite was the confetti's cookie, it was delicious. Overall, if you are looking for high quality baked goods or maybe just a stop in for a quick bite and coffee, Matilda is definitely a spot I would recommend! read more

The coffee shop is very pretty, and the croissants are beautiful. They have the normal price for a croissant around 5dollars. I just thought even they were beautiful they didn't taste amazing. I had a chocolate croissant and I only ate the chocolate, and left the left over of the croissant because it tasted nothing. , the coffee shop wants to give us a French cafe feeling but nobody speak French, some translation of their products is funny, like google translate. I don't have a sweet tooth, and I really dislike extreme sweetness of pastry that the typical bakeries in the US (e.g., in grocery stores) serve. The pastry from Matilda Bakehouse is different and more like the pastry that you get from European cities. Its croissant is typically soft and flakey but not too sweet. We have been going to this place since it was a famers market stand. It is great to see how it has grown. The staff is very nice and has great suggestions. The shop has a very open feel and the food is fantastic. Lots of natural light makes it feel so open and welcoming. I would say it's fairly expensive but a nice treat. Been wanting to stop by this store since following them on Instagram. Had very high hopes grabbing a variety of pastries to take to a friend's Sunday Brunch party. That will be the last time I stop there. Not only was several selections like Pain au Chocolates and Seasonal Danish so dried out they cracked when you ate them. We had to stand over the sink because when you bit into them every cracked making a mess on you and table. My first clue should have been the darker color of them. The cranberry orange scones were good with a lot of fruit in them. The only reason why I didn't give them a lower rating. But I would have to be close by to stop, not something I would go out of my way for. What angered me the most was the owners customer service. While she was waiting on me someone she knew came in. Instead of finishing with me she started talking over me to those people. I had to repeat myself several times. She then gave me to the guy working without any reason and he finished helping me. No smile, no why, nothing like suddenly her time was not worth helping me. No one should be made to feel like that. I did make them aware of our experience via the payment link but I guess Customer Service is not a strong point. You need to treat people with respect when they come into your business. read more

I recently learned that Matilda Bakehouse has a pop-up location within Bavette on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 0730-1030. So, I stopped by this morning for a sweet treat after my morning walk. I had a delicious cinnamon knot and a cup of coffee. While there's a competing coffee shop next door, they're NOT a bakery. I do not say this lightly, but their apple croissant things are the BEST baked good I've ever had. I'm a fatty who loves sweet and I bake myself, I really mean it, I've never had any pastry this good before. The people who helped us were hella sweet and the place is super cute. We traveled to stop here and didn't realize we were getting cold stuff, but the guy who helped us even gave us ice and a bag to fill our cooler. We will DEFINITELY be back.
