This shop is such a gem, offering classic bakery staples, delicious macarons, and fun, bakery-themed items. I especially love their "kindness coupons"--such a thoughtful gesture for anyone who could use a little treat. I attended one of their macaron classes, and while I don't know what their kitchen looked like before, it had been fully transformed into a student-friendly workspace with stations set up for each group. After signing in, you're directed to your station and handed an apron. The spots are semi-assigned--if you booked with a friend or a small group, Kasey does a great job placing you together. Everything you need is laid out and ready to go. Kasey walks you through the whole process, checking in along the way and sharing helpful tips she's picked up throughout her macaron-making journey. You and your partner split the batter, but you each get to do your own mixing, choose your colors, and pipe your own shells, which makes it a really hands-on experience. While the macarons are baking, you're treated to sweet bites like brownies or crispy rice treats. Once the macarons have cooled, you fill, package, and--of course--sneak a few tastes along the way. The whole class is so fun, approachable, and well-paced. Afterward, you even get the chance to take home some bakery goodies at a discount! I absolutely love their bakery items, and the class was such a blast. Can't wait to go back!

Date of visit: January 26, 2024…read more Our January version of "Coffee & Kringle" brought us to Batter and Mac in the Falls. A friend had heard that they had gotten some flack from the local Republicans for being pro-LGBT and that was enough for us to go pay them a visit. Staff were wonderful and friendly, even suggesting that I get the Wicked-themed matcha latte with strawberry cold foam, something that I did not think I would necessarily like, but she pushed it hard and you know what? She was right! It was a delicious drink that I may or may not have licked the lid to ensure I got all of the cold foam... My ham and cheese croissant was quite good, though I think it would have been better had it been warmed up. And then I went back for a Scotcheroo and that was fantastic. I had intended to just have a bite that morning and finish it later but there was no way I could do that, I ended up eating the entire thing while we were visiting. Outside of the room temp croissant, the reason for four stars instead of five here is because the bakery gets VERY cold everytime the door opens, I probably should have kept my coat on the whole time we were there. I think one of those ceiling-mounted air units would help mitigate this and get me to stay a bit longer (and order more food!) in the colder months.

The cookies are large so snacking on them is a dangerous road to go down, but oh, so worth it! I left then on a plate on my counter and as the day went on the cookies started to disappear. Luckily I had family to help me, but these are great cookies! No pictures of the whole cookies because they were started on before I could grab my camera. They will be gone by bedtime, I'm sure. These have flavor, unlike some others that are just plain dough with little flavor except for the chips or m&ms. Every bite is great!

There was one customer ahead of me, who seemed more concerned with making conversation with me and asking me what I would be ordering, rather than making his own decision. After it was finally my turn, I asked the employee if a specific product contained custard or pastry cream, and the answer somehow included telling me the history of the owner attending pastry school, a list of their locations and hours, and a tour of everything they carry. I was just looking to get in and out, and apparently this is not the place for that. I am used to big city bakeries, and I would say this is a small town bakery. I'm sure it's fine if you have time to kill, but I wasn't looking for that. I decided on a dark chocolate croissant. It was $6. The small part that had chocolate in it was WONDERFUL, but it was just about a dollar coin size of chocolate in a large croissant, so it was almost entirely just a plain croissant. For $6. I wanted to like this place, especially since there don't seem to be other bakeries in the area, but I likely will not be back.

Nothing Bundt Cakes saved my party planning life recently…read more Ok, maybe an overstatement, but they really did come in clutch! I was planning a dinner birthday party for eight and had ordered a pie from another business. I remembered their pies to be large but when I got it, it was smaller than I had remembered and I suddenly was concerned that it wasn't going to be enough for folks to be able to enjoy without having to get only a small sliver. The birthday guy loves all things citrus so my plan was to get a sad grocery store lemon meringue pie to help cover my bases. I was in Brookfield picking up party supplies when I saw Nothing Bundt Cakes and remembered they have an incredible lemon bundt cake. I dropped by without a lot of hope that they'd have one I could pick up on such short notice, but they did! They have multiple sizes from bundtinis that are just a bite or two to their Big Bundt that serves 18. I went for their 'the bundt' size which reportedly serves 8. It was a perfect supplement and most folks at the party couldn't pick between the pie and the cake and chose a small sliver of each and were equally wowed by both! Their cakes are flavorful and moist and just some of the tastiest cakes around without being overwhelmed by frosting. The prices aren't bad. For the size I got, it was 32ish dollars (which I'd paid $40 for the pie, so that felt reasonable!). They have a cute little shop that's neat as a pin and service was lovely as well. Get to it!
