I hadn't been to their new building yet and was pleasantly surprised to see some really cool retro pictures, hand stitched artwork, and classic wallpaper. It's a fun space and felt very welcoming. The chilaquiles were fantastic! They make their own hot sauce in house that was a good addition to the dish, along with chorizo. Highly recommend this one. It was also a huge portion and ended up feeding me for two meals. Make sure you get here early to avoid the extremely long lines; we planned to be there right when it opened and by the time we left, there were already people having to wait outside. Huh. I've heard good things about Honeypie and I'm confused now. I tried to get brunch with my family at another area spot, but the wait was too long so we opted to try Honeypie. We reviewed the menu while we waiting for seating, which took far longer than we wanted, more than 30 minutes standing in the cramped lobby area with a bunch of other people. Hats off to their host for being friendly and even a little entertaining and I like that you can order coffee at the register area and drink it while you wait. Too bad you can't get a cocktail out there. The menu sounded great and we were ravenous so we were excited to order. By the time we were seated we were limited to about 40 minutes to get to a ticketed event, all in. I told that to our waitress so she could pace the meal accordingly. While I understand that she can't control the kitchen time, I don't think she showed any expediency or attention to my statement. Spoiler alert - we were late. Two of us ordered the biscuits to start with jam. I was happy to try them and they were good. My coffee based martini hit the spot, but it was spilled a little when it hit the table and our server didn't say anything or wipe it off. My mom liked her bloody Mary and it was decent. When our food came I was immediately disappointed by the appearance. My chilaquiles looked like they had sat under a heat lamp for ages - the egg was dried and over firm. My chips were spicy, but 100% soggy and nasty. My black beans were - meh. Not a good dish overall. My mom actually didn't find fault with her Honeypie Benedict. I tried the hollandaise and it was fine. My cousin did not enjoy her Hopple Popple skillet at all. (Potatoes, bacon, caramelized onion, mushroom, bell pepper, cheddar, two scrambled farm eggs) She found it difficult to find any egg, as it was apparently shrunk into tiny bits. The potatoes were like fries and it was overall bland. Not a winner. We certainly won't be back. Here's what my mom and I split for lunch: Fried chicken sandwich w fries: Crispy chicken thigh and the harissa sauce gives some flavor. The pickled daikon cuts the richness. Fries surprised us as the MVP of this dish. Spinach artichoke dip: Super rich and flavorful. The goat cheese adds tang and depth. Crostinis were good, but - the fries as a vehicle. Trust me. House salad: We got this because we were guilty for ordering the Artichoke Dip and Fried Chicken. And it turned out to be much needed balance to this meal. I love the vibe of this place. It's cute and cozy and makes you want to eat comfort food! My cousin and I recently came here for a quick dinner. We both had the Chicken and Biscuit pie. It was good although the biscuit was really huge. I love the crusty top, but maybe could use a little more of the stew part of it. She loved it and pretty much finished the whole thing. Service was fast and friendly. Great recommendations, so I want to come back when I have more time and more room for dessert! Admittedly, I am not a huge pie person (I know, I know...) but when I come here, all of that goes out of the window. When I come to Honeypie, not only do I have a difficult time choosing just one but I love every single bite of whatever I choose! The selection is always epic, between fruit pies, chocolate pies and unique flavors of the week/ season. This visit I chose the lemon blueberry because it was the end of summer and wanted something fruity and I wasn't sure this summery flavor would be available if I were to visit in the fall or winter months. Of course, it was perfect. Crust was light and flaky with exploding blueberry and lemon flavor in each bite. Although I came here for pie after dinner, I somehow had room to finish every last crumb of my pie. I've also been here for brunch (bar service) where nothing was less than perfect and exactly what I would hope for in my brunch experience. The bar staff is also fun, friendly and speedy, no matter when you're here. The food was amazing- my friends said it was "one of the best breakfast burritos ever". I love their coffee and also enjoyed my ham/egg croissant breakfast sandwich- lots of flavor! The cream pies are always on point. My fav is the black bottom banana cream pies. Don't ask what it is. Just get here and try it. We were greeted, warmly at the door by a woman who was putting out the daily specials and then warmly again by the host at the host stand. It was already busy, but we were seated immediately. Our server Jen was fantastic - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We really felt welcome and cared for throughout our whole visit and would love to have Jen as our server again in the future! We ordered the banana waffle and the breakfast casserole. The banana waffle was tasty without being overly decadent as some sweet breakfast dishes can be. The breakfast casserole was rich, hearty, and very flavorful. I loved the amount of black pepper in the gravy and the biscuit was really good. The portions were good as well. I took home a bit of the breakfast casserole and finished it later in the day. They offer comfort foods - highly recommend the burger (SO juicy and flavorful) and the Pesto chicken salad sandwich (so so fresh and full of flavor) . The fries were crispy. The side salad was so fresh, and I loved the ranch! It wasn't super creamy and they didn't drown the salad in dressing. As far as pies, you have to get one! Made yet another trip to Honeypie, this time for lunch. It has yet to disappoint! The macaroni and cheese was gooey, creamy, and delicious. The additions of the bacon, toasted bread crumbs, and ribboned green onion really made the dish dynamic -- plenty of textural interest that you don't always get with your run-of-the-mill mac and cheese. At $18 it was a little pricey for an entreé, and though it was delicious, I might try something else in the future. The Bay View Breeze mocktail was to die for. The flavor combination of pineapple, ginger, lime, and mint worked exquisitely. Once again, a little pricey at $7 for just a mocktail, but I might just catch myself ordering it again. For dessert we went with the salted honey pie, per the recommendation of our server, and it was hands down the best pie I have ever had. The custardy filling was held together by a perfectly buttery and flaky crust. The brûléed top added depth to contrast the sweetness and the whipped cream was just the right touch to round it all out. Our server Rin (Ryn?) was spectacular. They were always attentive and friendly and knew the menu well enough to offer some top notch suggestions. Honeypie Cafe is not cheap, but you really are paying for quality. Both the interior and the patio seating make for an ambient experience and I've never had a bad server. Be prepared to spend upwards of $50 (before tax and tip) for two people. And whatever you do, don't skip out on dessert. The pie truly is amazing and worth the $9/slice price tag. read more

Wow I have not been here since they moved to a new space and apparently that is already 5 years ago now! The new space is open and spacious and has a great vibe. The bar is open and bright. Honestly would've sat there if I didn't go with my family. I ordered my usual - pork fries and pie. The pork fries hit the spot as usual although they now serve it in a bowl where it used to be on a plate. The is impacts the longevity of the fries crispyness. Still just as dense and heavy and plenty for a meal on its own. I also has the breakfast casserole with my nephew and wow that was flavorful and heavy too. Be prepared to take food home here! Three of us had brunch at this restaurant on New Year's Day. The interior was decorated cheerfully, very fitting to the mood of the day. The place was full when we arrived, but there were no other customers waiting, although several other groups arrived shortly after. Our wait for the seats was probably less than 10 minutes; after we placed our order, however, it took more than half an hour for our food to arrive, indicating that the kitchen was quite overwhelmed that day. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito, and my companions ordered the Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Cobb Salad, respectively. We all liked the food we ordered. The Breakfast Burrito was the best I'd had in MKE, and I would rank it slightly below the best breakfast burrito I had in a NYC restaurant a few months earlier. The toasted croissant that came with the Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich, which I also tasted, was very good - buttery, soft and almost crumbly. Honey Pie in Bay View is everything you want in a neighborhood spot--a welcoming, cozy space with a retro vibe. From the moment we walked in, the friendly staff and inviting atmosphere stood out. The Lavender Sparkle mocktail was a refreshing start. They had a nice selection of mocktails and NA beers. It's hard to decide which entree was better - the Hopple Popple Skillet with its incredible aroma and steaming-hot deliciousness, or the Pesto Chicken Salad Croissant - perfectly flaky and so flavorful. And then there's the pie. Wow. We tried the Key Lime Pie and Cherry Pie--took them home to savor later. There is no better place for comfort food. Grilled cheese and tomato soup is a go to for me. Honeypie's version comes with fries and housemate pickles. The soup is thick and perfect for dipping your sandwich into. We also love going to Honeypie for brunch as well. The breakfast pork fries are lovely when you're super hungry. Pulled pork over potatoes with a sunny side egg pickled jalapeños and green onions. It's messy but wonderful. I have tried almost everything on the menu and you can't go wrong but the pork fries are a must try! When you're feeling the need for sweets you can't go wrong taking a slice or two of pie home for dessert. I'd recommend any of the fruit pies. And if you're there for brunch, try the 'Sconie mosa - traditional mimosa with some cranberry wine. It's tart and refreshing! read more

Who says you can't have pie for breakfast? You absolutely can, as much as some might disagree. I had an amazing start to my day at Honeypie Cafe! Before we allowed myself to get lost on not one, but two pieces of pie, we chowed down on the Breakfast Casserole. This is a party in a bowl, filled with biscuit, roasted potatoes, the most delicious house made sausage gravy I've ever had, white cheddar, and chunks of bacon all enveloped in a sunny side egg. It was hard to get a good picture, but the video says it all in 8 seconds. This dish was indulgent. Once that was well polished off, we treated ourselves to slices of Strawberry Rhubarb and Lemon Icebox pie to try a fruit and cream. Both were EXCELLENT. The Strawberry Rhubarb was wonderfully sweet and tart and yummy. The Lemon Icebox was topped with real whipped cream and based on a crumbly graham crust. It was refreshing. We hardly left a crumb behind of either. The service was excellent! Our server checked on us periodically and always made sure our coffee cups stayed filled. I highly recommend this place! It can get busy so I suggest you get there early! read more

We went to Honeypie Café on a Saturday night and had no issue getting a table. Our waitress was great and so friendly! We were a little bummed right in the beginning because my mom tried to order the Airline Chicken but they were all out for the night. Then turns out my dad got the last Chicken and Biscuit pie of the night (this was at 6:30pm and they are opened until 9). The grilled cheese was great. Super buttery and great cheese to bread ratio. Dipping in the tomato soup was a must! The fries were so nicely seasoned, but sadly they were cold. If they were fresh out of the fryer it would have been a top tier grilled cheese meal. I had a bite of David's burger and it was delicious but messy. I also had a bite of my dad's chicken and biscuit pie (also great, really enjoyed the biscuits). Now the biggest debate of the night... were the pie's sweet enough!? My dad and I did not think the mud pie or pumpkin cream pie were sweet enough at all. Crazy enough, the coconut key lime was my favorite. I had high hopes for the pies and unfortunately was let down by them. However, David and my mom both felt the pies were sweet enough and they really enjoyed them. Overall we really enjoyed our time at Honeypie cafe. Cute spot in downtown Bay View. Bit of an old school diner vibe with some fun vintage decor. It was definitely busy the Friday night we walked in. We approached the bar and asked for a seat there which worked out since there were just 2 of us. Bartender was busy but took our order in a timely manner. Food was great. We got the dinner rolls, spit a chicken and biscuit pie, and finished with black bottom banana pie. Perfect for an indulgent fall night. Definitely want to try the burger and soups if we come back. The two touted entree dishes were poorly prepared and unpleasant. Salmon: sweet potato puree? An easy to execute dish, but this was thin, oily, yellow, sour. Parsnips so undercooked they crunched and were unseasoned, flavorless. Braised greens- perhaps two leaves of greens, if the leaves were tiny. The salmon was a nice cut, but request for lemon to brighten things up begrudgingly yielded a few tiny pieces of lemon used by the bar as drink garnish. Steak frites, done medium? Fat hunks of mushy potato, filet cooked to leather and served in strips on top of the potatoes, the whole covered in thick gravy - effect was like an unappetizing poutine. The dish needs an accurate title, but best avoided even if renamed. read more

While we waited just 10 minutes for a table--as Honeypie doesn't take reservations--I ogled the needle-punch and embroidery-style artworks on the wallpapered walls, and checked out some of the merch and pie making gear you could purchase and take home. (If you're looking for a fluted pie plate from a local business, hit up Honeypie!) Once we were seated, our server was very attentive as we ordered an entree and a slice of pie to finish. If you're smart, you'll ask for the pie menu at the same time as the entrees so you know what kind of pie you need to save room for. I was excited about bringing new people to this location. I've been here multiple times before and bought lots of slices and a few whole pies. Very disappointed this time. They don't accept Apple Pay or any tap to pay payments anymore. They used too. There's no sign or notification of anything saying they no longer accept it. This was a long time bookmark and the new restaurant of week which is very popular for weekend brunch and has a line waiting before they even open. I got there 25 minutes early to get a table and the which I did because it completely filled up in minutes. The server tried to offer me counter seat vs a booth because it was only me. F that because I'm not spending $40 with tip for breakfast just to eat at a lunch counter like George Webb. The decor is like library casual and nicely done. I ordered the Bloody Mary spicy with the breakfast casserole right away so my food came quick before anyone else because I knew exactly what I wanted. The Bloody Mary was average and not too spicy with an olive, green bean and chunk of meat stick. The breakfast casserole looked amazing with the sunny side up egg and baked melted cheese. The breakfast casserole is biscuits, roasted potatoes, sausage gravy, white cheddar, bacon topped with a sunny side up egg. This was so amazing and delicious, just a genius idea. The bacon was completely drowned out by the super chunky sausage gravy. The sausage stood out as flavorful so the biscuits and gravy must be very good on its own because it was great in the casserole. The economy must not be that bad because lately I'm running into packed restaurants with wait lines if you don't get there at first open, I was in and out in 30 minutes with a packed restaurant and people waiting. Walking in you immediately get the cute diner/cafe vibes with the pie case and artwork you're met with. We went around 2pm and we immediately got a seat and great service. I ordered the burger after a server recommendation and it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly and the toppings all melded together amazingly. We also ordered the corn muffins which had a hint of sweetness and were perfectly warm. Others ordered the Caesar salad, breakfast casserole, and the hopple popple scramble. Rave reviews for those as well. You get your moneys worth as well, there is LOTS of food in each option. We also got slices of the Chocolate Cream Pie and Salted Caramel Pie, so glad we did. The Chocolate was perfectly rich with great whipped cream. The salted caramel was one of the best cream pies i've ever had. The chocolate crust and whipped cream tied it together perfectly with almost a cheesecake vibe. SO YUMMY! I am a huge ranch person and after asking the server, he said the ranch was wonderful. Fantastic Food, Service, and Atmosphere! Stopped into HoneyPie in the mid-afternoon and loved everything about it--bright, clean space with fresh décor and comfy booths. My wife's Cubano was spot-on (she's a Miami regular), and my Salmon Nicoise salad was loaded with crisp veggies and perfectly cooked salmon.
