I went to Brunch It Up with a few friends the other weekend and had an okay experience. They have the important stuff down - food and drinks were all great! We got the mimosa and Bloody Mary flights. They even flavor their own vodkas in house for the bloody's! Online it said both kinds of flights were included their special if the day, which was BOGO half off, but the staff told us the bloody flights were not included. We ordered a skillet, burrito, and harvest hash. Everything was great and came out quickly! What the restaurant is lacking is in overall aesthetic and cleanliness. It seems unfinished inside, has chipped paint, the canvas on the seats is ripping, and the floors were quite dirty where we were seated. We visited when there was only an hour left of them being open, and the staff made it seem like they were wanting to close up. If some of these items are addressed, this place has potential to be really great! read more

We really wanted to Brunch It Up...we love a good brunch place...so much. We left wishing we'd gone somewhere else. Brunch It Up (possibly in the middle of rebranding to just "Brunch.") is a classic breakfast spot in downtown Milwaukee...we were there on a Sunday morning...high brunch time, and were seated quickly upstairs. The place had an overall run-down vibe to it...scuffed paint on the walls and a general feeling of not quite matching the quality of the upscale brunch spot implied by their modern logo. Menus...I normally don't comment on the menu itself but our table featured no less than 4 different menus...the regular menu, a drink menu, a specials menu and a mimosas menu...choices are wonderful, but the immediate reaction is this is a whole mess of menus on the table, and I don't know what to look at first. It felt haphazard. Let's move on to the coffee...Coffee is an essential part of the brunch experience. Even at a diner, you want it to be strong...the mug it came in was nice, but it was weak coffee. I need coffee to kick my butt, and if you're serving what's close to "browned water" at a breakfast place, you're missing the mark. How about the food? I can't fault them for the generosity of the portions, but will say individual dishes were way too much for my wife and I...we wish smaller portions were available, so so much didn't go to waste. My wife had the Egg and Waffle sandwich with waffle fries. It was fine. I had the Harvest Hash made with egg whites...the eggs were a little overcooked. (Egg whites require a thoughtful touch when cooking them so they are finished white and not browning all over.) There are plenty of fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, and peppers in there (I guess that's the extent of the harvest in Milwaukee) The hashbrowns it all sat on were undercooked. We were excited about the croissant beignets...Available were the regular ones with chocolate or strawberry dipping sauce, and a special with a fruit dipping sauce. They couldn't mix and match sauces, so we got the special. They were okay but a bit over-fried, losing the croissant texture altogether ...I mean, there's nothing wrong with deep-fried dough with sweet things to dip them in, but we do wish they hadn't fried the croissant out of them to give us the unique experience implied by the name. The menu has plenty to choose from...every breakfast savory or sweet thing you could imagine...and on the nicely designed, modern-looking menu at looks like it could be amazing...but everything we got, plus the experience of sitting in a place that felt a little rundown, left us overall disappointed. read more

Extremely disappointed with the service here. We ordered a single Quinoa Power Bowl, and after 40 minutes, the food still hadn't arrived. To make matters worse, our waitress never came by to check on us, offer an update, or apologize for the delay. Waiting this long for a simple order with zero communication is unacceptable. Solid breakfast/brunch place. I love how this is actually located downtown which makes it a very easy spot to hit up when visiting museums (which is what we do when we eat here!) plus it just isn't as busy on the weekend as other brunch spots located outside Milwaukee's downtown proper. The portions were large and we didn't have to wait for a table on a Sunday morning. They had booster seats and high chairs for littles which we appreciated and two single use bathrooms. Nice menu with some things you don't see elsewhere like the croissant beignets. I loved the lemon berry pancakes but these didn't come out as I expected - I was expecting some whole fruit I think and instead it was three sauces. The lemon curd topping was delicious! Next time I will ask for extra plus powdered sugar just because. Prices were very reasonable too we paid $40 for two meals and two coffees. I have been to Brunch at both of their locations, and preferred their old location over their new. Kind of a small space and not as accommodating. Their food is ok, I like their breakfast BLT, but sometimes can be a little cold and nothing to run home about. I do like their selections of bloody marys, and they offer a flight which is fun as well if you want to try the variety of infused vodkas they have! read more

Great downtown location to have brunch. This place has two levels so plenty of space. Do prepare to get in line on a weekend if you're going with a group. They have a good selection of brunch entrees with gluten free options! The Crepe French toast was a novel and new idea toe so I tried it with a side of scrambled eggs and Bloody Mary with a chaser. Honestly was super super excited to get brunch here with my friends. Turns out they're literally out of everything at 12:30pm on a Friday. My friend was not able to order the skillet he wanted. Another friend was not able to order the Bloody Mary flight as they were out. Pros for this place is that the bottomless mimosas and pricing is good esp with the choice of different juices. Downside is the juices came in basic plastic cups. Also downside is that the service for refilling the champagne was painfully slow. Table service was non existent unfortunately. The indoor is cute. Maybe I'm spoiled but generally at a breakfast restaurant don't they ask if you want coffee when you sit down? Five minutes later when they tip our order we asked for coffee. Bright and cozy restaurant with limited tables. It was already busy when we entered early this morning and so we sat at the bar. We split some croissant beignets which came out hot and lightly sugar-dusted, with a crisp outer shell and chewy inside. These were nice and we dipped them in raspberry sauce. My biscuits and gravy Benedict was the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. A soft biscuit topped with a crisp tender sausage patty, perfectly poached egg and covered in delicious thick spicy gravy loaded with sausage chunks. This is the biscuits and gravy I'm looking for. It came with a side so I added on a berrylicious pancake (additional charge for pancake of the month) which was good, with a dollop of sweetened sauce and fresh berries. My companions enjoyed an egg breakfast with crisp hash browns, and a pretty avocado toast with a softball sized- burrata. The wait staff was very nice and the restaurant soon filled with lines of hungry people and they started a wait list. We enjoyed our breakfast and definitely would return! Stopped in for a quick breakfast before heading out of town and I don't really get some of the lower reviews. Granted it was fairly early in the morning (just after opening) and we were the only two in here... The space is really cool; neatly laid out, cozy and unpretentious. The service was quick and our server was very friendly and attentive. Sometimes service can be poor and slow when it's dead, but nothing to complain about here! I had the lemonberry pancakes and they were AMAZING! The pancakes themselves were light and fluffy and the toppings were very fresh tasing and complemented each other very well. Came here for Sunday brunch. The restaurant looks run down. I ordered a cold brew and the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles were advertised to come with pickles, pickled onions, and maple chili sauce. When the dish showed up it had not pickles or onions and the waitress said they were out of the sauce. The chicken was dry, the waffles were just ok, and my breakfast potatoes had no seasoning. It wasn't a lot of people working so it took us a while to have a seat but when we sat down quick to wait on us appetizers, but they were nice to us they came after. From service to food to cleanliness, this place is absolute garbage! We arrived around 10am on Saturday. When the host finally came over, she asked how many and we said "three". She sighs and then says "I guess I gotta wipe down a table". Way to welcome diners, lady. We sat down and our server got our drink orders. I then went the bathroom and was appalled how disgusting it was. I've seen port-a-johns at music festivals that were cleaner. Disgusting bathrooms are usually a sign of a bad restaurant. When I sat back down, I then noticed the general uncleanliness of the place. Baseboards and floors that need scrubbing. Food on the floor. It was then both my husband and I noticed there wasn't a single employee on the floor. Not sure where they were but they definitely weren't cleaning the restrooms. Our meals arrived and I didn't think it was possible to screw up eggs this bad. My Florentine omelette was inedible. The eggs were way overcooked. The spinach tasted like it came from a can and was stringy & undercooked. Even the breakfast potatoes were bad. My husband said everything in his southern hash tasted like "dirty old grease". I searched online and perused Brunch It Up's menu, then joined their live waitlist, which feels less intimidating than "making reservations" somehow. I was by myself and I moved up the line fast. I wound up seated at the bar which is fine by me. I was hungry and I knew I wanted my own French press of coffee. The beans were from Valentine. I'm normally more of a savory breakfast person but I succumbed to the temptation of the chocolate churro pancakes. They were appropriately decadent and filling. This poor service continued through our stay, with barely a word coming from our server. One of the few times she spoke to us was to ask if I really wanted what I ordered because it wasn't showing up on the system she was ringing me up on, but if I really wanted it she could check with the kitchen. This just felt off-putting, like I was inconveniencing her. We ended up ordering a southern hash, benedict, and a single pancake. The hash ended up being very, very bland. It was completely unseasoned. The table salt, pepper, and cholula could only do so much and I didn't end up eating more than half of it. The benedict eggs were cooked almost completely through like a hard boiled egg. The syrup with the pancake was very clearly the cheapest they could get and wasn't enjoyable. The service here was a bit confusing. They meant well but couldn't seat people. They had tables that were dirty for a while. I was almost tempted to bus them just so others can sit. They didn't beak up their tables so 2 people were sitting at 4 tops. This was the situation for 6 of 7 tables. Also the manager I'm assuming has their stuff all over the bar table up space.
