We have eaten here many times and have had good prompt service and well prepared food. Today we did not have that experience. It took about 10 minutes after being seated to put in a drink order. I total it took more than half an hour for our food to come out. While other servers were constantly moving around the dining room, ours seemed to be hiding in the back. When our food finally came out, parts of my dish were cold and the eggs were drastically undercooked. They remade the eggs, but still undercooked. Stopped here after Sunday church. The place was busy but we were seated immediately. Our server Emma was very friendly and took care of us. I had the Wild West burrito with the Yukon gold potatoes. The burrito is massive! I'm usually a big eater but I could only manage to eat a little over a half of it. It was stuffed with eggs,peppers, onions, jalapeños, and potatoes. It was so delicious and had a nice kick! No hot sauce needed! The "yukes" potatoes were very good with the additional onions and cheese. It's been years since my only other visit to Sunny Side Up Cafe, so I thought I'd stop again since there was an omelette that caught my eye and I didn't recall if that's what I had on my previous visit. I called in an order to go that consisted of the Munster Monster Aahh!!! omelette, which comes with pancakes and smashed Yukon potatoes on the side. The pancakes were meh. Not exactly fluffy, but not dense either. They had almost no sweetness to them and needed the syrup that came with them in my to go bag. The omelette and potatoes were equally meh. I don't get the point of including huge chunks of bland potato in the omelette if you're also going to have the omelette come with a side of bland smashed potatoes. There was some "spicy" seasoning on the omelette, but not enough to be noticable other than the color it added. The omelette is large and I appreciate the use of muenster cheese as it's my favorite cheese, but neither of those points make me want to have it again. read more

I went with a group today. They were kind enough to do separate checks. Hurrah!! The waitress was efficient. I ordered a Wild West burrito. When it arrived I asked for salsa. She brought a a small container and said there would be an upcharge of 75 cents. I said no thank you. Can you imagine serving a burrito with no salsa? Neither can I. I wish I could give a better review, but alas we (wife and I) walked in at 1:31 pm today and were ignored for about 3 minutes before we decided to walk out. The server stood in the back (kitchen) in the doorway talking to someone. We could easily see her and she could see us. She didn't look over or acknowledge us at all. There was 1 other couple in the restaurant, sitting in a booth, and they would look at us, then look back at the server, then back at us and shrug. This was unexpected, but very pleasurable first time experience. I've driven past this little restaurant at various times over the past few years, but I never seemed to have time to stop. Today I did. Only open for breakfast and lunch. I asked the waitress for a recommendation for my breakfast, her suggestion was the waffle. I enjoyed my meal and had a side of the bacon which was crisp not hard, thick cut Jones cherry smoked bacon. The waitress/hostess was friendly and sat me immediately. Great local diner in New Berlin. The owner is very friendly and talkative and strives to welcome everyone. They have an extensive breakfast menu with both your standards and savory options. And the portions are huge as well (most omelets or scrambles have a minimum of 4 eggs). Prices are very reasonable and service is good. The food as last time was very good but if I am being honest the service was not. It was brunch on Sunday but this business was hardly crowded we waited kind of left out for at least 40 minutes with only our drinks in front of us , finally our server who had been very busy doing carry outs noticed we didn't have food and realized he forgot to put in our order ... by the time the food came out the place was very crowded and everyone was eating but us . We had a fun breakfast and a show this morning. The owner is very entertaining. Their meats are delicious, especially the bacon and ham. There are usually a little miss or two when we eat here. Today my wife's eggs were way undercooked and the new server forgot about our toast. The prices are quite high here but the plates are enormous and the food is excellent. They are also expanding and doubling their size. Overall I really like this place They got the last 4 meals I've had here absolutely perfect so I've added the 5th star. Well earned! read more

Loved this place for years. Can't tell you how many people I recommended this place to. After the last three times I was there, and the horrendous service I received, I will no longer be eating here. The last two times I didn't get any meat in my omelette. The first I tried to get my waitress's attention for at least 10 minutes. She was to busy visiting. Today, I was able to get my waiter to look at my omelette He looked and told me " there's a lot going in there, I can't tell if there's any meat in there." He asked me if I wanted another omelette, I asked to just be given a piece of ham. My $3.88 coffee was never even offered to be refilled. When I was done eating, I waited for my wait staff to come get my money. Finally I had enough, I went and took my own to go box. That seemed to get his attention. Won't EVER be back. So sad. Am of the opinion that breakfast is typically the easiest and cheapest meal to make at home, so don't normally dine out unless craving something more labor intensive like Belgian waffles. Also been checking out places within biking distance of our house to help burn some consumed calories as well. New Berlin doesn't have a lot of breakfast options so there was a steady flow of patrons, but we were seated pretty quickly. Plastic tarp separator was a pretty good indicator that they were in the process of expanding. Our waitress was very friendly and joked that after we drink her extra boozed up mimosas that we should be sure to ride closer to the curb. I ordered the Belgian waffle with eggs and bacon. My breakfast companion ordered a burger with egg and bacon and a side of potatoes. We were very satisfied with our choices! At one point, a man who appeared to be the owner, went from table to table checking in with guests on their meal. I even heard him sing the Itsy bitsy spider with a child at one of the tables. How cool is that! We were also pleasantly surprised to see that your first Yelp visit here gets you a 15% discount. Bonus!
