This is a nice local spot. It has the menu of one of those classic diner spots that every neighborhood should have. I didn't know the restaurant it was before so I can't comment on the change. We all ordered too much food, as you usually do at brunch. The portions are hefty and priced reasonably. Our server was attentive and sweet. She dropped a pancake on the floor and made up for it with free chocolate milk. (Not necessary but appreciated!) I went in here for brunch with my family and a couple of friends. We are big soup fans so we were happy to hear the soup du jour was one we liked--chicken dumpling. And it did not disappoint! My friend and I ordered large to-go containers after eating it with our meals. I had the meat lovers skillet without bacon, add avocado, and over easy eggs. It could use a little more flavor, but the cholula hot sauce I added helped with that. I got pancakes on the side so my son could nibble on them (he's 10 months old). He enjoyed the pancakes, but was surprisingly a bigger fan of the soup! Everyone enjoyed their food & we will be back!

84th Street Cafe is one of my usual-go-to spots for breakfast or lunch. Their food is consistently VERY good. Portions and prices are excellent. All the folks that work there are friendly, efficient and really try to give all their customers a good experience. I like the fact that one can have fruit instead of potatoes on all meals with no up charge. Sandwiches come with both fries and a cup of soup. Speaking of the soup, their soups are house made and outstanding. They have chalk board specials every day, though I tend to just order off the menu. The location is the old venue for Johnny Vee's, from a few years back. The location has lots of windows, so natural light permeates the dining area during the day. They've recently built an outside patio for those who want to eat al fresco (when its not freezing outside). Parking is a breeze. The location is in a strip mall with a large parking lot right next to the restaurant.

We have been to 84th classic Café multiple times. We are always able to get a seat even though they are generally pretty busy. The servers and staff are always very nice and pleasant and accommodating. The food is delicious. I have only been there during breakfast times and each time the portion sizes are very large and they always give you enough cheese And additional toppings. The waffles are delicious just like hotel style Belgian waffles which I love. Highly recommend. The ambience is perfect also for a diner.

Met a few friends for breakfast on Saturday morning. The restaurant is fairly large with tables and booths on both sides of the dessert cases and area you go to to pay your bill. We were seated immediately and were given a choice of a table or booth. We chose a booth. The waitress came by and took our drink order and since my friends and I were catching up we hadn't looked at the menu when the waitress returned. She seemed annoyed that we weren't ready to order and came back quickly 2 more times. We ordered and about 20 minutes later we received our food. I had a vegetable omelet with hashbrowns and toast. It was a generous portion and I only ate half and was able to bring half home for later. Everything was delicious. Only reason I am not giving a 5 star is because the waitress wasn't very friendly. I understand if she wasn't having a good day but when working with the public you need to have some pleasantries.

Cute old school diner/café. We stopped by for breakfast during a weekday and we were greeted as soon as we walked in. We sat at the counter and was offered something to drink as soon as we sat down. The service is pretty casual and allows you to sit and talk with others or watch tv while enjoying your breakfast. There are lots of options for food including pancake, eggs, waffles, crepes, French toast, and more for breakfast. We had a egg breakfast and skillet with coffee and juice. The waitress kept our coffees warm, and the food came out pretty quick. The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The other side of the restaurant is reserved/opens for lunch and dinner, lots of tables and bar. I would go back to enjoy a nice simple breakfast, and might try lunch or dinner soon.

After learning that a new restaurant opened where our beloved Johnny V's used to be, we couldn't wait to give it a try. I wonder if the owners are the same. Other than the name, the atmosphere and style of the diner is pretty pretty much the same; the food is good, so we were happy with our breakfast. To me, the difference was in "the touch", the customer service. Our server was fine but she refused to take our picture, and didn't take care of us much after that. Breakfast was good but it wouldn't be my top choice right now.

I stopped here for lunch at 11:15 am and ordered a Ham and Cheese club sandwich with a bowl of Chicken and Dumpling soup. The soup looked better than it tasted, it really looked wonderful, but the taste was lacking flavor, it still was good, just not as good as it looked. The sandwich was disappointing, it only had two slices of ham, the same thickness as the cheese along with a thick cut tomato. It would have been much better with double the meat, even if they had to charge more. Overall, I wouldn't be back, I was not that impressed.

The waitress came by and gave me a specials breakfast menu and took my order and off she went. It was large enough for me to ask for a to go container to put in half of the biscuits and gravy and half of the hash browns. We both ordered the 3 piece cod dinner which came with a cup of soup, choice of potato, Cole slaw and a basket with bread, crackers and butter. I ordered the chicken and dumpling soup and my husband had the clam chowder. My soup was very bright yellow with a lot dumplings. It was a little salty but good. My husband liked the clam chowder but mostly only broth. We both had fries for our potato choice. The fries and fish were both crispy and good. The fish was breaded not battered. I liked the creamy coleslaw. Not much of a vinegar coleslaw fan so I was happy. The price of $14.99 for the fish dinner I feel was very reasonable. It is not a fancy place, a cozy diner type restaurant. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Overall a good dinner.

But once you know where it is, it's easy to find and worth it. I went in during lunch one day and it was quiet. The hours are limited, as they close early afternoon. I ordered the lamb gyro plate with the french fries - and Gus said, you can get fries anywhere, try my rice! And so he served up the rice and asked me to try it right then and there. I asked for my feta on the side, and again he was insistent I try it then. The portions are gigantic - it was enough for at least 2 meals. We talked about his background in ethnic cooking. I was impressed they opened up around the time Covid-19 was raging and they've managed to stay in business despite opening up during a difficult time. The food was good, the portions are generous, making it a good value for the money, I enjoyed meeting the proprietors, and I'm looking forward to returning and trying out some of his soups and other lunch items.

Gus clearly loves his job, and it shows in the food and the service. My wife ordered sausage and French toast, which was wonderfully eggy and rich. I got a chorizo breakfast burrito -- delicious, served with a perfect (for me) salsa -- medium heat and rife with cilantro. The place had just opened for the day and we were the only ones there. The place is large and clean; understated but inviting. Gus doted on us, bringing out some freshly fried tortilla chips for me to enjoy with the burrito and salsa. The seasoning on the chips was a nice touch. The burrito was humongous -- too big really, as we had no way to store it, but we're not going to ding a place for that, and if you can take home leftovers, it's two meals for the price of one. Gus is a gem -- a wholehearted, full FIVE STARS for this place.

I so rarely get to Greendale (honestly, can't say that I had ever been to anywhere in the village besides the mall) and I liked that we could make a reservation, making it a nice change of pace. The decor is lovely, very Art Deco, a nod to Eleanor Roosevelt, the namesake of the restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the interior was given that the exterior is essentially a strip mall. What's that old saying about books and their covers? Service was great, both attentive and timely, and everyone very much enjoyed their food. Monte Cristo is one of my favorites and this one was done very well. My coffee was also good and she kept it coming, which I also appreciated. Really the only sour note in the entire experience was being asked to vacate the table. While it was not handled terribly poorly, I would have recommended they offer us something to shift to the bar to not end the meal on a less than positive note, but that's just me.

Their website has a popup on the home page saying it comes with fried haddock, potato pancakes, applesauce, and rye bread, but the popup doesn't list the price and it isn't available through the online ordering function. I ended up calling in an order to go, substituting wheat bread for the rye, and also added a piece of lemon ginger coffee cake. The lemon ginger coffee cake tasted fine, but man was it dry. Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.
