I'd give this visit a 3.75. Not quite a 4. The food was very average. Not seasoned at all. It was me and 3 friends. One gal- her pancakes were raw in the middle and she didn't eat them- but also wouldn't send them back as it brings her anxiety. So they didn't get a chance to remedy the issue. Can't fault them when they didn't get the opportunity to fix it. Just overall not impressive food. Service was gracious and friendly and fast. Thus the rating. They have opened a brand new coffee shop when you just walk in. It's beautiful and looked lovely with a pastry case as well. It was steady with customers. The rest of the restaurant not taken by the coffee shop remodel- is not updated and is almost in need. It does look clean and that is something positive. I felt the prices were a bit on the steep side for the restaurant atmosphere and food. Overall- I wouldn't take someone here to impress them. I can definitely say the food was good. This is the third time I have been here over 10 years. I try not to go but I went today because another place for breakfast was way too busy. They had bloody Mary's and mimosas on the menu however when I asked for a mimosa they said they don't sell alcohol anymore. I asked for a water with lemon but the lemon didn't quite make it. I got a Greek omelette with fruit, white toast and jam. The omelette was really good not greasy and a good amount of feta. I feel the jam was homemade, but I got a streak knife with a cut of cantaloupe I had to cut myself. I cut the melon as good as I could with the knife. Overall pretty good. Its the third time I've been the in 10 years I can't say I would bring someone there ever but if I want a Greek omelette I may return. Maybe. read more

What was once owned by two settlers is now recently owned by a new family that decided to change nothing of the menu when purchased because of what a local favorite restaurant this is, and I can see why. Warm welcomes, great staff, amazing and well-priced drinks! No wonder this place is a spot for locals and travelers! My mom got the Greek breakfast, my father the biscuits and gravy and I got the chicken and waffles with ROSEMARY SYRUP. oh-em-geeeeeee that syrup was so good I think I'm going to start infusing my syrup with it at home! Needless to say, we all devoured our delicious meals and my mom and I usually don't finish it but the lamb in her omelette was juicy and crispy that just perfected the omelette. We had a great brunch at Melrose this past weekend. A little fuzzy from a family reunion the day before, this seemed like the perfect place for some comfort foods and a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary is absolutely crazy looking when it arrives at your table. I got the Greek Bloody and it can with half a meal attached to it. I was afraid I was going to be full by the time my actual food came. The skillet was pretty good. Nothing that stood out specifically but exactly what it was billed to be. Pretty good American family diner, but they have rather limited hours now. I most recently came for breakfast which was good but not better than the other area family diners. A few years ago when I came here, I remember seeing some Macedonian or Albanian dishes, I can't remember which but they made the place unique. Now they have only a couple of Greek dishes, or rather Greek-American dishes which are okay. I wonder if they changed hands, or the entrees I'm having trouble remembering just weren't big sellers. Food was good though they were out of a couple prominently featured menu items. They managed to do a perfect poached egg which lands them in four-star territory. Melrose is very unique for a Greek family restaurant and their breakfast is great. They have different kinds of homemade jelly, fresh cream for your coffee, pancakes made fresh from scratch, delicious cubed potatoes, and I'm sure there's much more I haven't mentioned or tried! The first thing that will capture your eyes is the entrance, the ceilings architecture above really stood out to me. The restaurant is very clean, the staff has always been great, and the food is normally really good. I say normally because our last visit we had the tzatziki sauce with the Greek omelet and it had a large amount of garlic in it making it almost inedible; I've had it before and I will say that's not the norm. On the plus side, your coffee never goes empty! Overall, good breakfast spot and I recommend giving it a try if you haven't already! read more

I have eaten here several times in the past as it was recommended by my niece and her husband. Now after taking my dad here one day, this is where he always wants to go. Very good selection of different items as I have had a couple different Omelettes (Pack attack, Ham and cheese), Gyros, turkey club. Everything I have had has been very good! Dad owned a restaurant in Illinois before retiring, so he appreciates a well run establishment. My sister has come with also and her grandkids love Melrose as well. The biggest complaint I have is that my camera is broken so I couldn't take a decent photo of my gigantic and delicious bloody Mary. The gravy boasted two kinds of sausage... while I still think my own biscuits and gravy are better, theirs is solid. Sliiight complaint about the bagel sandwich (blat? I think it was called). The eggs were not folded or molded at all, so it was near impossible to eat the sandwich in the traditional way of picking it up and putting it in your mouth. The eggs were at least an inch all the way around. (First world problems, I know). Boyfriend says they slice their own bacon. I wouldn't know, but it was as delicious as any bacon... so? Helpful? Haha I apologize; I'm useless. So okay. I saw some people fussing about the carpets in their reviews. I, for one, did not even notice if they were stained. Our service was excellent. The food came out hella quick. The patrons are primarily families and older people... not a bad thing, just a statement. So! Go. Plan on waiting a few minutes and dropping at least $15-20/person. Undercooked waffles, soggy frozen chicken tenders. Waitress did not check up on us till the end of our meal to "see how everything was". Complained about the chicken and waffles and she still brought us the whole bill. Had to argue with the manager just to get half off one of our two dishes. Manager stated, "I can't just take a dish off because you don't like it" and "I like the chicken and waffles". Paid and left. Will never be back. Highly advise anyone to NOT GO HERE! Overall, they had a large selection of food options that looked good and the standard diner decor. I ordered a Bacon Avocado Lettuce Tomato Bagel -- because I order anything with avocado! However, it came without avocado. I asked my server about it next time she came back and was informed that they were out - I would have liked to know that before I ordered and there was no offer of changing it. It was okay, but not what I ordered and I much preferred my Mom's pancakes (light, fluffy and huge!). When I paid, a man who I'm assuming was an owner or manager asked how our meal was and I said I was disappointed that they were out of avocado for my sandwich. Instead of expressing any apology, he said that they aren't out, but rather the avocados they had weren't ripe enough to be used. It seemed like he was more focused on defending the circumstances of the avocado then making sure a guest was happy. I'd settle for clean, quick service, and food that doesn't come out smelling like wet puppies (true story about a different breakfast place I went to in Cudahy with my parents..). But that's not the Melrose! Melrose is clean, service is great, and their menu is huge! We stopped in for breakfast, and we're all pleased. I got pancakes with cherries (the dark kind) but passed on the whipped cream. (Noticed that so many of their pancake/french toast offerings seemed smothered in sweet, buyer beware). Pancakes were great, and my coffee never went half empty. My son got some kind of sweet pancakes on special, and those things were even more smothered in some kind of syrup than even the picture detailed. Just make sure you have a sweet tooth or get the topping on the side. As far as generic diners go, Melrose is alright! read more

I finally visited this restaurant after work. I had only tried their lunch take out before. Someone picks it up for us since it's very close to work. They have big servings even for take out. There is plenty of leftovers. I remember ordering a fruit platter along with my panini before and you are given a big container of fresh fruits. I think I had half of a melon, bunch of strawberries, and more. In other restaurants, you will be lucky enough to get a small bowl of fresh fruits. Now that I have actually seen the place, it's a big dinner. A lot of seating area. Its nothing fancy. The staff is very nice and helpful. I ordered the broasted chicken tonight and they give you half a chicken with your choice of potatoes. The chicken was tasty! The meat was moist with crispy skin even after my long travel back home. Their mashed potatoes with gravy was very good too! My hubby said one of the best he has tasted. The meals come with soup or salad and dessert!! I am not a big fan of the chicken dumpling soup. It tasted bland to me. They have a variety of sweets from pies, cheesecake, and cakes all displayed in a big glass display case. The young man serving the desserts was very nice. He was pleasant even if I had tons of questions about the desserts. In my defense, there are no labels identifying the sweets. I have yet to taste the cake and cheesecake. We're from out of state and dropped into Melrose on a Sunday morning before traveling home. We were so pleasantly surprised by all of it! The food was excellent (omelets and a waffle) the coffee was absolutely delicious and fresh. Our server, Maria, was just perfect. Our drinks stayed filled, questions answered, food came as we'd ordered it, etc. I was also impressed that management was handling an obvious staffing issue excellently. We waited 30 mins for a table, when I went to the restroom a whole 1/4 section of the restaurant was empty tables. Kudos to management for prioritizing quality over quantity!!!
