    Club Sandwich and chili
    Jim M.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday at Gus' Deli. It's in an unusual place but definitely worth finding! I was meeting a colleague ahead of an afternoon meeting and Gus' was close by. I had the chicken tacos and my colleague had chili and a club sandwich. WOW! That was a lot of food! Definitely a good value. The food came out quickly as it did not seem very busy for lunchtime. We grabbed beverages from the cooler and ordered at the bar. We sat down and the food arrived in minutes. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The host and the cook/owner both stopped by to check on us. The food was tasty but I thought the chicken in my tacos could use some seasoning. This was easily resolved with some salsa. We were in and out quickly and with leftovers. Gus' is definitely worth a visit!

Best lunch place. Gus and his wife are the nicest people! Food is amazing. All food is fresh and cooked by Gus himself.

In addition to serving amazing food for both breakfast and lunch (my go-to's are the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast and the club sandwich for lunch), Gus is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Since I became a semi-regular customer a couple years ago, it's hard to tell which one of us is more excited to see there other when I come through the door. Even if he's busy he always takes a moment to ask how my family is doing and he often shows me something he's cooking up special. Equally, first time customers are treated with warmth and appreciation like you've been a customer of his forever. The world would be a far better place if more people were like Gus.

WOW doesn't look like much until you walk in

I have been tryin to get in here for a while now but the hours are weird, I forget about them or I drive past when they are closed and it never worked out until today. The place is in what looks like a dead mall with a TV station and nothing to look at from the outside but the inside is really neat with a bar, comfy puffy chairs, tables. TVs, pictures and kitsch everywhere with exposed brick and ceiling. The guy working the kitchen is super friendly with his customers and keeps you updated on your order while he is making the orders before me. The turnover case is filled with ridiculous huge pastries. For a deli I hated the menu because it didn't have a lot of sandwich options and it had Mexican and middle eastern options with breakfast and no Italian sandwich option. I opted for the most pricy sandwich which is the club which I thought was pricy thinking of previous clubs that I have had. I don't do club sandwiches very often but it's all I liked on the menu and I do occasionally order them. OMG this is a Fu%#ing monster master piece club sandwich like I have never had the pleasure of being introduced to before and it's epic in it's raw form. The club was fu%#ing delicious on bakery toasted fresh white bread with thick sliced ham and turkey, tomato, lettuce, cheese, bacon and mayo. OK I see why it's $10 because it's not the typical whimpy club sandwich because it's more like a gourmet club with quality fresh toppings and meats and no skimping on anything. The cold fresh toppings were very refreshing on a hot summer day. Did I mention that's it's piled high with the container barely able to close and you need to be a snake and unhinge your jaw to eat it but it's well worth getting. I have never had a club sandwich executed so well above the average and it definitely shines. This is the best club sandwich that I have ever had and it's playing at a level that few can compete with because they don't try, passion and vision is behind this sandwich and it shows. I'm definitely making this place my go to place to get a club sandwich. Nice job. I don't give 5 stars that often on my reviews if you follow me and my reviews because I feel that a 5 star is only worthy when I get blown away with an experience so the highest star is not given lightly, today Gus deli entered my 10% club and they earned it, see my pictures.

    Lamb Gyro w/ fries

Lovely place tucked away here. Food was absolutely excellent, I had a lamb gyro sandwich and it is top tier compared to other places that offer it. Staff were so wholesome and kind and I will always recommend this place to anyone I see.

Stopped in to Gus's Deli this morning...you might remember Gus and not even realize it. He is a sweet, funny, one of a kind gentleman. Back in the day, he owned The Unicorn, a punk/alternative club and music venue in the basement of the Sydney Hih building that many now-famous musicians played at including Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins. He also used to own Gus' Mexican Cantina and several other restaurants before retiring to North Carolina. Retirement didn't serve him well. He lost everything in a hurricane a few years ago, came back to MKE and here we are today. He's just as delightful as he always was and the food was amazing. You won't be disappointed. Pro tip: the entire menu is available even at breakfast!!

The food was excellent. Owners were some of the nicest people I've met. Giant portions. I'll definitely be back!

Chip's and salsa, chicken quesadilla. Fantastic, fresh ingredients.

Very fresh ingredients and great service. The people and surroundings were awesome. I will definitely be coming back.

Date of visit: September 16, 2025…read more This was near some friends and they raved about the food--especially the breakfast items, which they serve all day. I should have listened to them because I went with more of a lunch/dinner type item and it wasn't made the way I asked for it. My husband also went lunch/dinner and also did not get what he asked for. Staff was frustrated and apologetic, but I didn't love the delay after a long day at work. Thankfully the second time was the charm and my bananas foster milkshake was quite good and definitely something I would recommend. A member of staff had their little one hanging around, and while I don't normally care about that, when they wandered outside and were playing a bit closer to the street than I was comfortable with, I knew it was time to go. The outdoor seating is directly on the sidewalk, so if that is not your jam, look to sit inside instead, though this did not bother me at all. Next time I come I would listen to my friends and hope for an error free breakfast item instead!

Got happy hour drink, Water of Life which was good. It came in a flamingo cup. We ordered two food dishes to share and were not very impressed. Portions were small for the price. The island stir fry was bland, the teriyaki sauce on the side was needed. We added jerk chicken which helped with the flavor. But disappointed in amount of veggies. The Wauwatiki smash was alright. The smash patties were a little charred. The pineapple was not very juicy and the burger could have used more sauce. The burger came with crack fries which were just seasoned fries they were good but nothing special.

We arrived with three people (one a regular due to GF dietary needs) and started at the bar while waiting for a table. Right away, the service felt off. My friend asked about a martini -- understandable if that's not offered, but the bartender's response came across more curt than courteous. When she explained she was hoping for something more savory, that could've been a chance to suggest alternatives, but instead he just walked away. My own drink, which I'd ordered before, was supposed to come flaming with a cinnamon stick, but it was served plain. Without the flame, the cinnamon stick added nothing. We also weren't given straws and had to grab them ourselves. The bigger issue was around my friend's gluten-free needs. When she asked about the coconut water, the bartender admitted he wasn't sure but assumed it was fine because "that's the restaurant's thing." Instead of checking the container or showing her the label (which is standard at most places), he told her to look it up online. That felt dismissive and concerning -- especially since the brand isn't certified GF and could risk cross-contamination for someone with celiac disease. We decided to stay and order food: crack fries, chicken tenders, pork tacos, fried rice with jerk chicken (suggested by our waitress as a protein add-on), and a Caesar salad. The fries (with volcano ranch) were excellent, as always -- honestly the highlight of the meal. The tacos were good, and my friend enjoyed her tenders. But the rest fell flat: the salad had brown lettuce, and the jerk chicken in the fried rice came shredded and bland, almost boiled, instead of the grilled/seasoned style we expected. The rice itself was gummy and lacked flavor. My friend didn't touch it, and the waitress didn't seem to notice or ask about it. When the bill came, they did credited $5.50 of the $6 for the chicken add-on. No offer of to-go boxes, despite lots of food left behind. Overall, the service felt inattentive, the drinks underwhelmed, and the food was hit-or-miss -- especially for the prices. It's frustrating since this is one of the few GF-friendly spots for my friend, but based on this visit, we may just stick to at-home dinners together instead.

We had maybe 4 bites leftover, and no room for dessert, it was a personal victory. I'm sad I didn't get photos because I love the feel of each unique area that's here. The restaurant is bigger than you think because it's subdivided into smaller rooms. We had a group of 7 for a work event (which meant I kept my phone put away) and were in a cozy little nook in the back by ourselves, I'd never even noticed this little spot. It's a great environment with a lot of good drink options. I always opt for the Parker rolls which are tasty but again expensive for the amount you get, I typically order the trout (which until coming here I didn't realize was essentially the same as salmon). It's very good and the potato pancake is a nice touch. Over my visits I've also enjoyed trying the short rib gnocchi, butter chicken, and brussels. They also have a small party room which I have attended an event in before which is always a nice touch. When I first pulled up to the building it was 7:30am, and they were open. But the windows somehow made it look dark inside, and I literally had to put my nose to the glass to see any activity. Otherwise I might have thought they were closed and kept going (special glass that cuts down glare inside?). Once inside there are several different areas for seating; the bar with stools, the front windows ledge with more stools, or the center area that has larger tables for various size groups. Lots of natural light from the front windows. The interior design, is a bit industrial, well lit, and welcoming. Things were neat and clean. Inside there was a short line to the counter which was right ahead. Took a few minutes to arrive at counter and order. Got a pleasant greeting and help with the order. I ordered the usual London Fog Tea Latte (little lavender, little vanilla, and extra foam). They didn't have much in the way of pastries/bakery. They were out of the Coffee Cake, but suggested the Apple Galette supplied by Miss Molly Bakery. They don't have the ability to warm up the bakery, which was a little disappointment. They took their time steeping the tea, which is a good thing. It came with a nice head of foam, had great flavor, and was the right temperature (148F). Texture-wise it could have been a little creamier. The Apple Galette was amazing. The crust was flakey and nicely sprinkled with course sugar. The apples had great flavor and were moist. The atmosphere was relaxed and most people were having quiet conversations. There's a very chill cat (Sugar) roaming around the place, and occasionally keeping people company. Not my favorite, but definitely a place that I would return to.
