Been here several times, and the experience has always been very good. It's located on a moderately quiet street in Hartland. It has a few small tables outside in front. Inside, there is seating downstairs or upstairs, which tends to be a bit quieter (my choice). Also upstairs is a meeting room that you can reserve. The counter to order is at the back of the shop, which can feel a little distracting if you are sitting downstairs, with people lining up across the room. On this visit, I got a super friendly greeting from the cashier. Ordered a London Fog Tea Latte (a little vanilla, a little lavender, extra foam) in a mug, and a blueberry lemon scone. They do a nice job with the latte, and the scone was very good (might ask to have it warmed up next time). The place has a great vibe. The staff seem to enjoy themselves and treat everyone with kindness and respect. It's a great example of what a coffee shop should be. read more

I'm neutral on this spot. Things I liked: location (in downtown Hartland), seems to support local causes (IAT!), affordable and tasty seasonal drinks (hello, small pumpkin pie latte for under $5). Things that were off-putting: seems like a local fan-favorite and outsiders passing through are "meh". Not the warm and fuzzy welcome / vibe I typically find and enjoy at a coffee shop. Also the main entrance is not accessible. However, we did discover an accessible ramp on the side of the building (all under construction / roped off at the time of our visit but good to know for future visits). Lastly, it's a small and cozy place but there was a lot of merch scattered about where maybe an extra table could have been squeezed in. Just some thoughts! read more

Surprised this place was closed on Sunday so we headed back Monday to try it. I had a hot latte which was very good tasting. I brought home two iced lattes which were happily received. The place was busy with lots of people chatting and working. They have some nice conference rooms if you need to host a meeting. There is seating up and down stairs (hint: upstairs was nice and quiet). Staff was super nice. Loved this stop. read more

Love our local coffee shop! They have solid drip for my husband, and fun seasonal drinks for me. The açaí bowls are a great breakfast option, and they have other muffins, pastries, overnight oats... The staff is all so friendly and it's a great place to hunker down and do some work. There are also rooms available to reserve for small group events. read more

I went into Birch and Banyan today to meet a friend for coffee. Both of us are in our low 50's and have both lost our husbands very suddenly as of recent. We were meeting each other to share in some of our grief. We were sitting at a very small table for 2 talking for about 5 minutes when an employee (or maybe the owner) came to us and said "you need to order something...we expect all of our customers sitting at table to order something and not just use our tables". If we wanted to just sit at a table and not order food why would we go there? Oh, we wouldn't...and why the rush...we were literally sitting there for FIVE minutes crying to each other...she was SO rude and SO unpleasant that my friend and I just looked at each other in awe and walked out. I will never give my business to them. read more

This place is really cute and intimate. The birch theme is great, used in the decor and the merch. There are multiple places to sit with groups, big or small, as well as alone. There are games, books, and even a TV on the wall above a cute fireplace. The coffee is terrific! Most of the time when I order an iced mocha, the mocha is overwhelmingly sweet, but this was perfectly blended. The blueberry cheesecake muffin was moist and flavorful, too. The staff is so sweet, they greet everyone who comes in and one of the girls asked me about my day while I was waiting for my coffee. Having worked in the food industry, I appreciate the extra effort to connect with customers. I was offered a punch card from another girl on the clock, and I took it knowing I would be back next time I'm in town. A great place for well priced, tasty pastries and coffee! read more

Great local coffee spot. Good coffee drinks and friendly staff. The owner is super nice and energetic as well. They bring in sweets and food from other local spots which is a fun and nice perk. I tried a Turkey Panini the other day and it was pretty good. What I love about this place is they have two rooms you can reserve for a client meeting, a private video conference, or a small study group. In addition they have a two levels and the upper level is quite and a great spot to work. They are not in a rush for you to leave like some spots these days and I will be more than happy to purchase coffee, snacks, lunch, and drinks throughout the day to have a nice place to get out of the house for a workday. read more

These people know coffee and they are the real deal. The friendliness of staff was above and beyond and yes they use espresso... real fresh made espresso. Exactly what the Lake Country needed... a warm, friendly and delicious coffee shop! The owner is an absolute delight and so welcoming. Coffee is delicious. I've gotten a dirty chai latte and coffee and both were fabulous. It's a great place to grab a great drink and/or grab a drink and stay a while.
