After purchasing some additional equipment to supplement my home Cold Brew set up, I was able to cold brew and make home pour overs that I flash chill in a ColdWave Beverage Chiller. When you home brew, you need roasted coffee beans. Since I was largely homebound in the early Pandemic days, I was motivated to buy the best coffee beans from US roasters who ship to my house in CT. JBC from Madison, Wisconsin is one of the roasters that appeared on multiple best US roaster lists. In addition, JBC is one of the roasters that regularly submits its coffees to "Coffee Review", which performs blind taste reviews, scores coffees and reports the scores on its website. Especially within its normal price range, JBC is one of the highest scoring US roasters that I've noticed. That's why JBC is the roaster I order from most frequently. My orders in the past two months have included coffees from Kenya, Ethiopia, Columbia and the Indonesia island of Sumatra. "Coffee Review" rated five of the six JBC coffees I ordered as 94 or 95, which fall in the Top Rated Category. I suspect the other hasn't been rated yet but will score similarly. Many of the other roasters that routinely score this high charge much higher prices than JBC. In this regard, JBC's cost for 12 ounce bags of whole beans in my recent order ranged from, prior to the 10% discount, $18 to $20.50. At these prices, I actually save money home brewing high end coffee instead of getting whatever the local drive-thrus are selling. I can't speak highly enough of JBC's customer service. My recent order is representative. Over the July 4th Weekend, I ordered three bags so I could receive a 10% holiday discount and free shipping. JBC fresh roasted the coffee on 7/6 and shipped my order that day. I received a tracking number, but I know not to worry with ever-reliable JBC. It was waiting in my mailbox for me on 7/8 - high-end coffee, two days after it was roasted. Not to bury the lead, JBC's coffee is routinely fresh and outstanding. Their flavor notes listed on their website and bags are right on. If you home grind and brew, I highly recommend JBC.

If you order in they serve the drinks in glassware. I enjoy sitting on the patio which is very inviting and lined with plants. WiFi works outside too. The only downside is in the spring/summer bees seem to hang around and pester you from time to time. It depends on when you stop in but I've noticed the crowd ebbs and flows during weekdays and the inside seating area is small. If you're looking for a quiet place to crank out some work this probably isn't the best spot. I usually overhear many convos while trying to catch up on emails. They also have a designated parking lot which is awesome! Overall it's a great spot to check out and in a cute, more off the beaten path part of Milwaukee too.

When I arrived, I got a friendly greeting from the owner, with an immediate offer to sample many of the different items. Tried several of the different versions of shelled pistachios, which was helpful in making my final choices. I usually ask for it in a mug, but unfortunately they don't have mugs, so you get a paper cup. I asked for whole milk, a little lavender, and a little vanilla. After I got it and looked inside, I was seriously disappointed. It was pretty much a cup of hot milk with a tea bag floating at the top. It was hot and had reasonably good flavor (the bag was still steeping), but there wasn't much latte texture at all. I didn't even finish it. They have a nice selection of different bakery items, cakes, and cookies. I saw many people enjoying these, but I didn't get anything myself. Service: The folks taking the order were nice. They seemed to know lots of regulars who came in for beverages and food. Atmosphere: The place is super cute. It has an old-time feel to it, with a tin ceiling, wood floors, period lighting, and a cast-iron radiator. The roaster sits in the middle of the place, with a counter all around it for enjoying your drink. Other seating options are along the outside walls and near the front windows. The ivy climbing the side of the historic-looking building along the Milwaukee River fit the exact description I was looking for. Inside, the space is spacious and already decked out for fall. There seemed to be a mix of regulars who joked with the barista and newbies like me, but I still felt completely comfortable in this unique space. My go-to is a latte with almond milk and stevia, and the barista offered to steam the stevia with the milk. Such a small detail, but I loved it! The latte was beautifully crafted and even came with latte art. Since it was my first time, they suggested trying one of their fresh-baked daily goods. I went with the cranberry orange scone, which she said might still be warm ... and it was excellent. The sugar topping and zest in the glaze sound like they'd make it overly sweet, but it was just right. While sitting for just a short while I was extremely impressed with the customer service here, above and beyond!!! There were waves of busy and quiet at the counter throughout my visit, but overall, it was an awesome spot to slow down, enjoy a really good coffee and pastry, and take in the cozy fall atmosphere. Upon arrival, I was captivated by the partially ivy-covered building and the prominent cornerstone inscribed with the establishment's founding year, 1884. The interior exudes a vibrant atmosphere, adorned with lovely artwork, and the aroma of freshly roasted coffee filled the premises.
