What a cool coffee shop. I sadly had never been here until recently. My first visit was a week ago and I snapped some pics of the interior and grabbed a coffee with a friend. I went back the following weekend bc I just had to try the coffee flight. It was an absolute downpour outside and the place was packed. Great to see. Staff was very friendly. Drinks were great. Been here a couple times. It's a decent spot. Nice seating, very good light. A spot that people come to for work or chilling out. The service is usually very good; cheerful and helpful. I get a London Fog Tea Latte, and it's okay. I need to ensure to ask for better frothed milk. The scone is good; but more the texture of bread than a scone, which should be dry and crumbly. Back again, nearly two years later and will stand by how authentic Pilcrow coffee flavors are! I'm not usually the coffee-goer that picks the coffee flavors that are funky, quirky, sweet. The baristas at Pilcrow are extremely patient and accommodating, giving me (and friends) a chance to try the flavors on tap. Getting to sample flavors has only helped me out with picking out the right cup for my chats and work! The Caramel Delite is a 4/5 for how delicately it balances the taste of the actual Girl Scout cookie that it's going after. I would've appreciated more coconut undertones as the caramel is pretty overpowering on it's own. The Cinnamon Toast crunch (based off the cereal) is a 4.5/5 - so yum! Again, more for the sweet coffee goers which I don't tend to lean into. They moved around the tables and chairs, welcoming more space for plants which I'm obsessed with and the decor really complements the sunny days. read more

I love love love Pilcrow and it's probably my favorite coffee in Milwaukee. They offer their standard menu plus four flavors that rotate monthly. You can try these flavors in a flight - which I think is unique. All their syrups are made in-house and they offer some seriously creative coffee creations! My favorite rotating flavor is Bucks in Twix and I enjoy the "sweet and creamy" on their standard menu. The drinks always come out super quick and the staff is always amazing. The bakery area provides many breakfast and snack options that range from savory to sweet. I highly recommend the sweet and salty cookie or the sausage and gravy pocket, but I've never been dissatisfied by any of the food items. There was ample street parking nearby and lots of available tables when I arrived. I ordered at the counter and one of the baristas was generous enough to bring my cold brew flight to my table. Finally stopped by Pilcrow Coffee and I'm so glad I did! I tried their seasonal Banana Foster latte and it was delicious! The flavors were perfect and it wasn't overly sweet. The staff were also super friendly and welcoming! One thing that's super fun about Pilcrow is that they have rotating coffee flights. Pilcrow coffee is a really cool retro-ish coffee shop that I'm so thankful I stopped at. I tried the cold brew flight which was little Debbie's themed and it was creamy, non bitter, and DELICIOUS. I could not believe some of the flavors that they were able to bring out in this coffee. I also really enjoyed the Brie and apricot scone which was light and well balanced. Ever since moving to Milwaukee from Minnesota last year, I was on the hunt for a coffee shop that offers iced coffee flights to replace my go-to spot up in Minneapolis, and Pilcrow was my answer! This coffee shop switches out their cold brew flights on a monthly basis, which keeps me coming back for more. (Yes, they only do cold coffee flights, not hot.) They always have seasonally-inspired flavors: In September, the flight included pecan pie, brown sugar maple, apple pie and pumpkin cold brews; and in October, Butterfinger, cookies & cream, "Bucks in Twix" and Heath bar. I have enjoyed 98% of every flavor of cold brew that I've tried at Pilcrow, and I'm pretty picky with my coffee! They have a fridge full of bottled, flavored cold brews in case you want to purchase one (or three) bottles to go for future days. If you become a Pilcrow fan, they also have cute merch to browse too. Parking is a little bit funky around Pilcrow, but I've never personally had a problem finding a spot. Usually, I can park right in front of the cafe so I can see my car from my table inside, which I appreciate. The ham and cheese croissant was delightful - fluffy, crunchy and the ham and cheese were balanced (& it was warmed to perfection.) The inside was clean, lots of seating, but very busy. I wish there was a little more attention to the acoustics because it's VERY loud but popped in my headphones and that wasn't an issue any longer. Came on a rainy Sunday around 9am and by 9:15 there wasn't an empty spot and the line stayed steady the entire time I was there. I asked the cashier what they would suggest since it was my first time being there and they let me know they specialize in cold brews. They said their favorite from the normal menu was the sugar cookie latte but from the special menu for that month they really enjoyed the thin mint so that's what I got and it was great. I am obsessed with this coffee spot!! They had so many specialty drinks including the latte flight which I thought was great. I got the coconut cream pie latte and I drank every drop of it! The service was great but it was super busy inside which made for much longer wait times. When my husband and I got there, the line was long all the way to the door. We visited this shop a second time so that a visiting family member could taste the flavored coffee flight. To avoid the unpleasant sour taste that I experienced with my espresso last time, I asked if one of the coffee beans was less sour and was told that the blended coffee would be less "fruity" than the single-origin (Ethiopian) coffee. This turned out to be true, as the espresso I got this time was significantly less sour than the one I got last time. Each of us also ordered a pastry item (almond croissant, sausage puff, and asparagus and prosciutto puff). The shop heats up the pastry in a commercial grade convection microwave oven, making it warm and soft. The pastry, after being warmed up slightly, did taste very good. So, our second visit to the shop certainly gave me a better experience than our first. read more

There is plenty of seating and outlets if you want to come here to study. Just a fair warning, it gets pretty busy and loud with the weekend crowd though. The interior decor seems a bit unfinished and may need some warm welcoming additions, such as some wall art. But that's just personal taste. I have never had a bad experience at Pilcrow Coffee! There's usually pretty readily available street parking. The staff is so friendly and can provide recommendations if you're unsure what to order. They always have a great playlist on so it's fun to come to work, socialize, or just grab a coffee to go. The flight is a fun thing to try, just know that there are no substitutions - it's a take it or leave it deal. They do change the flavors from time to time, so you can get it more than once...I'm really a sucker for a flight. The last time I went in, I got the Easy as Coconut Cream Pie latte which was on special - the toasted coconut, shortbread pie crumbs and homemade whipped cream were divine and the coconut cream pie syrup was subtle and not too sweet. read more

I loved the experience from beginning to end, starting with the retro chic exterior to the welcoming interior to the friendly barista and intriguing coffee menu--this will absolutely be a regular coffee stop from now on. For my coffee, I got their almond cookie latte made with almond milk. It was flavorful latte on the sweeter side (but not too sweet--just perfect!). For my breakfast, I got their apple gouda scone. Their pastries are courtesy of Greige Patisserie and are phenomenal. I typically prefer savory for breakfast but decided to order something out of the norm for me and was so glad I did. The scone was not the least bit dry and the flavors melded perfectly. It was fantastic. I noted while I was there that they do nitro flights, offering four, five ounce pours. Currently the offer is French Toast (billed as brunch in a glass), Bucks in Twix (a twix inspired beverage), Thai cold brew, and Yabba Dabba Brew (made with fruity pebbles cereal milk). I definitely want to do the flight sometime soon. I think this would be such a fun date idea. They have plenty of seating for working or socializing. I visited recently with a friend specifically to try the coffee flights and though they were very photogenic, they didn't taste like coffee. Each drink was overly sweet, some to the point that we couldn't finish them. My friend also got a croissant which was underwhelming. The space itself was cute. Service was fine. Maybe I'd visit again to try a more typical coffee drink, but there are so many great coffee shops in the area, and there just wasn't anything in my previous experience that made me really want to try again. Yay for Pilcrow and their brand new location (416 W Walnut St)! I believe their grand opening isn't until mid-September but they're currently quietly open from 8am-2pm, Thurs-Sun. We took a Saturday morning stroll to get our caffeine fix (and because I was curious about the new space, of course). You can tell they aren't quite done with all the odds and ends, but over it's an awesome spot already. I love their aesthetic... the signature cream white and soft red logo is splashed across the front of the building, they've got the mini square tiles making up the counter area and coffee tap bar area, and the whole vibe is open and airy. View their printed menu upon arrival or scan the QR to check out the full list of offerings. I've had their famous bottled cold brew before and dang is that stuff delish, and strong. You'll find them easy to grab-and-go in fridges to the right of the shop. Flavors like coconut cream pie, blueberry pancakes, and fudge malt are just a few of their many wildly creative offerings. They're definitely on the sweet side in my opinion, so just be prepared for that! This time around though, I was just lookin for a good ol' iced latte. The friendly employee whipped it up quick, and also poured my hubby a cold brew from the tap. Thumbs up all around. The coffee here is amazing, I can't believe I didn't try this place sooner. I tried a small hot latte. The temperature was perfect, I could drink it right away. It was super smooth and balanced. The baristas know what they are doing and were really quick. I also tried one of their specialty cold brews, the Circus animal cookie cold brew. It was good. I tasted a little bit of animal cookies but mainly just sweetness. When I went in it was really busy, kind of hard to find a seat. It was also a little cold. It is a super modern and plain space.
