I had a pretty disappointing experience at Coffee Wave. I ordered an iced salted caramel coffee with oat milk because I'm lactose intolerant, but when I received my drink it was made with regular milk instead. I didn't realize until after drinking some of it, and it ended up making me feel sick for the rest of the day. When someone specifically orders a milk alternative, especially for dietary reasons, it's really important that it's made correctly. The service also wasn't very welcoming. When we asked if our croissants could be warmed, we felt like we were being judged for even asking because there was a long line. Later, when we went up to politely ask if we could have a little more syrup in the coffee because it tasted mostly like milk, we were met with attitude. It honestly made me feel really uncomfortable and unwelcome, which is a shame because we were trying to be as nice as possible. We were planning to order more food, but we were told it would take about 20 minutes because they were short staffed on a Saturday. I understand being short staffed, but the combination of the incorrect drink, the very unprofessional behavior and the overall experience left a really negative impression. ***While I understand that being short-staffed is challenging, it shouldn't compromise basic safety, such as ensuring a guest with a dietary restriction receives the correct milk. Excellent coffee: we got the lavender latte and mocha. My first mocha was regular sweet which is probably perfect for most people, but the 2nd time I came in I ordered it less sweet and it was perfect for me. This cafe is small, but they did a great job maximizing their seating spaces. It has a clean, welcoming and cozy vibe. I really like the color theme and mural on the wall. They seem to be new and ironing out the kinks but everything is great! I got a SF Vanilla Latte that was delicious and a ham and cheese croissant. I was sitting enjoying my good and drink and observed the wave or rushes that came and went and the team handled it beautifully. Service was wonderful! Lovely guy and lady helping out. Tried to figure out where the accent is from. Should've just asked! I'm pretty sure somewhere middle eastern as I'm middle eastern myself so I could hear some of the accent. Drink was great! So cool they have heart shaped straws! There is no WiFi yet as they opened up 7 days ago so as a student still finishing finals it was a little challenging. The pastries is alright. It was bit on the dry side but I'm not mad. They did just open up so I'm giving them credit for all the great things that's going for them! They will be getting in much more new food and sandwiches so that's going to be exciting to see and taste. The seating area was so cute! Chairs, blankets and pillows give it a home vibe. Definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego. It's a really nice place to study or to just sit, relax and enjoy drinks or food. They have really good and different matcha drinks, and the matcha itself is very high quality, as an avid matcha drinker. The owners are very cool and sweet people.
