I've been to Compa Coffee Roasters in Rancho Bernardo twice now. The first time I ordered an americano, just black, and the second time, a cortado. Both coffees were really good, which is the main point of coming to a coffee shop. Really smooth espresso, no burnt flavor, and good body + profile. The staff are really nice, despite the place sometimes getting super busy and hectic. There's always a bright, inviting vibe and atmosphere in the store. Tons of people use this place for remote work, too, so the Wi-Fi is probably pretty good. They also have a large food menu. read more

I really like their lattes (vanilla or honey cinnamon), and their drip coffee has a great flavor. They have a great selection of breakfast items to choose from (we like the 9-5 and croissants), and everything is reasonably priced. The staff is friendly, and they're quick to bring out your order. After a long hike in the morning, compa coffee really hit the spot with their coffees and breakfast options. I can't resist a good bagel and lox with an iced coffee. They also had a banana chia pudding which was a much larger bowl than I expected. I probably should have just ordered that but I wanted to try them all and took home leftovers. There is seating inside but also a row of tables outside on the side in the shade. I love a good coffee roaster, and Compa Coffee has officially gained another fan. My sister-in-law recommended this spot, so we stopped by one morning to grab coffee. It was already busy, and the plaza itself tends to get crowded, so navigating into the area for parking can be a bit frustrating especially during prime time. I ordered the Lavender Thyme Latte, while my sister chose the Maple Salt Latte. Both drinks were well balanced and thoughtfully crafted. The lavender and thyme came through subtly and complemented each other nicely without overpowering the coffee. I really enjoyed my drink and would order it again. I also took a sip of the Maple Salt Latte, which was just as good--flavorful but not too sweet, and not overly milky. The coffee still shined through. Overall, this is another solid coffee shop worth visiting in the RB area, and I'll definitely be back. read more

I joined my sis-in-law at her book club meeting for the first time. This month, the book besties chose COMPA COFFEE ROASTERS in Poway, and it was everyone's first visit. The cafe was poppin! Long line, but worth waiting for the yummy treats and caffeinated drinks. Even found a perfect seating area for our group of 10. The merch was super cute too!! I ordered the Golden Milk Latte with a shot of espresso, Chia pudding bowl, and a side of egg. YUM!! Everything was so healthy and delicious to me!! I love this place for studying/reading since I've never had trouble finding seats! This is one of the better/more convenient coffee shops in North County since it's so close to the freeway and thankfully they have good drinks here. Pro tip: there's honey at the bottom of the parfait, so make sure to mix it in, it makes every bite perfect. The granola in is spectacular. Truth be told I was not planning on coming here today, I had a business meeting with a client at Pete's coffee up the street which to my dismay I found out it was permanently closed when showing up today. So my client and I came over to Compa and, aside from the super busy parking lot that I'm just complaining about for no reason (lol), everything about it was just great. Really a fun, warm inviting atmosphere to hang out and chat with friends or meet with your business partners. Great music they've got playing in the background and definitely lots of active chatter throughout with people enjoying their day and their coffee. Plenty of seating inside and outside. If I were giving some constructive advice to the owners here, I would ask that they look into maybe purchasing some outside chairs without armrests attached so bigger guests could be more comfortable. Today I didn't get any food but everything looked delicious whether hot off the menu or in their little bakery case. I did order an iced b-side that was absolutely delicious. I could probably order five of these and want more. My client ordered just a regular hot coffee and it was also great. Was not expecting beer and wine to be available here but that is definitely cool for social gatherings... If I were close by I would definitely come here to hang out and have a beer in the evening. I liked that there were options to scan their QR codes and their bathroom was really nice and well kept. Also bonus... They have a changing table in the bathroom, and some toys on the outside patio. Writing this review off of a single cup of the Nitro Flash Brew. The coffee had great mouthfeel from the nitro pour and was creamy. The flavor however, wasn't great. Coffee was missing some roastiness and was borderline sour. I didn't even finish my cup. Absolutely love their matcha latte here. It's hard to go anywhere else after having Compa's. I love that you can customize the sweetness to your liking. I prefer just using simple or honey, but it pairs well with their vanilla or salted maple syrup too. I've had the Best Coast bagel (their lox bagel) and it's pretty amazing! They literally stuff it and it's delicious. Loooove that they put fresh dill in it, I literally inhale that stuff. I was in the area when I needed a lunchtime pick-me-up. I drove around The Mercado and found it. Its name Compa piqued my interest. Compa is short for compadre, or friend. With that name, I had a feeling this coffee shop would be welcoming and all about its customers. I stepped inside a really cuuute shop...digging the decor. I was looking forward to coming here because of all the great reviews on yelp; but unfortunately when we arrived to pick up our drinks, the staff were borderline hostile, giving us very dirty looks. The gentleman making our drinks seemed disorganized, and when we received our iced lattes we brought up that they were overwhelming sweet and tasted off. The iced dark mocha tasted metallic and my lavender thyme latte had no flavor, just sweetness. And I love my drinks sweet, but this was disgustingly sweet. He gave me a hard time when I brought up the odd taste in our drinks, so we gave up tossed the drinks. I would not recommend coming here, which is unfortunate since we thought their menu looked so good! Save your money and try somewhere else. read more

What a great hidden gem tucked away in the corner of Rancho Bernardo! My daughter had gone with a friend and decided to take me there to grab some coffee. Compa is not just any regular coffee shop. They have a wide variety of beverages to keep yourself awake and caffeinated throughout the day (as well as non caffeinated options as well) and an extensive food menu as well. Everything from a charcuterie board to sandwiches, breakfast items, and baked goods. The food is very reasonably priced and quite tasty as well. The turkey club, charcuterie board and biscuit's were a few of our favorites. We also tried something different, half coffee/half lemonade. We were pleasantly surprised it was tasty and refreshing but not sure it would be my go to. Was glad we tried though. Compa also has a nice variety of beer and wine which is pretty cool. Plenty of indoor and outdoor door seating if you decide to grab a bite and drink and relax. The staff is always on point! Such a rad place! Right when you walk in you're greeted & the place was super cozy & clean! It has a good variety of options to choose from. We were recommended for this coffee shop that is in Rancho Bernardo and my husband really liked it and thought that the coffee was really good. He has gone back several times, but however, I do have to say that the decaf Americano is not really the best. It seems like it's more of a hipster type place which I don't mind honestly. I just think that because I have to drink decaf coffee that it just didn't really suit me. My husband continues to go there, but I don't order or let him know that I want a coffee from there. I ordered in-house Matcha Latte with Oat milk and Lavender syrup, and the Ham&Cheese Croissant. I was pleasantly surprised with the Croissant!
