My sister and I went to this cafe and were wonderfully satisfied with our drinks! It was almost New Year's Day and the staff member was extremely patient and warm with us. We came right when the cafe opened and were the only ones there so far. Even though the drinks can be on the pricier side, they are well worth it! I got the peppermint mocha and it was delightful. I was scrolling on yelp for a good mom and pop coffee shop and found this hidden gem in Escondido. You all go not sleep on trying this place! You walk in and the vibes were so welcoming, clean, vibrant, comfy, and spacious. Loved all the details of the artwork and colors they put in to their space. Take time to read the captions of the photos on wall -- it made me feel so connected to the coffee shops origins! I love a good story and knowing the heartbeat of a business. I told the barista how I randomly found them asked her what was their most ordered drink? She told me the De La Olla Latte, Horchata Latte, and Blueberry Matcha. I was in a coffee mood so I went with the De La Olla Latte, got it half sweetened, with oat milk and got it hot. This cup of coffee was one of the best the had. The quality and taste of their coffee beans from Mexico do not disappoint! Also the extra flavoring for this speciality drink was so flavorful too. Well worth the taste, experience, and price! I also ordered a Cardamom Vanilla Cinnamon Morning Bun to go with it. My word the pastry was perfectly made with its softness and outside crunch, and the flavors were so well balanced none of it was over powering or too sweet. The barista's customer service was also so welcoming, kind, and took time to explain their drinks and any other questions I had. She put the cherry in top of my experience there. Mexican coffee shop that puts its reputation behind its quality brews. Their beans are award winning and they grind some freshly for purchase/ take-away. The chairs are super comfy. And the music is very chill (relaxing Spanish guitars and relaxing duets). This is not a fru-fru sugary sweet coffee shop. I'm sure it can be on request... I mean they have sugar. The drinks come out on the less sweet side, which is how we like it. The coffee drinks were rich, bold and perfection. They have a small assortment of pastries, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches as well. There are a few open plugs along the walls for those who "work from home". Service was awesome. The two ladies working were very kind and sweet. Service was quick too. There were about 8 people here and we noticed everybody got their orders quickly (there's some quality barista skills here). We learned this location has been open for 8 months, this is actually a coffee chain in TJ where they also roast their beans. We think they're going to do great here in Escondido! read more

Adorable, open floor plan coffee shop with plenty of seating inside. The bright pastel colors feel welcoming, made the space seem even bigger, and fun little photo op areas scattered throughout the shop. Staff was super friendly and patient! I ordered a dirty horchata latte without espresso, and it was probably the best one I have ever had! It was flavorful, creamy, and the perfect iced beverage for a warm day! Such adorable / happy / "retro" 80s colors and decor. Even the cane chairs were a nod to the 80s. Staff is super friendly and were ready to offer recommendations. We went with the iced Caffe de Olla and Canelatte (with almond milk), and both were delicious, the coffee itself was smooth and not bitter, and the drinks were not overly sweet. Plenty of seats inside, whether you are looking to sit at a table, couch or bar style seating. Lots of nooks to sit in. Really enjoyed the music that was playing - soft, jazzy, cool Mexican tunes at just the right volume. Felt like if you closed your eyes you could be sitting in someone's backyard. The Conchas looked beautiful and were really hard to resist. We will definitely have to try them next time. Lots of parking in the huge shopping center. Easy to find. Hard to believe this location has been open for over a year. We ordered the de la olla latte and the blueberry matcha latte. A concha was offered to us for free, we got the horchata concha. Service was slower than expected, especially knowing now that it's been open awhile. The team stayed busy waiting for orders to come in cleaning, restocking etc. Once orders were in the baristas got drinks out quickly enough. There's room for improvement on efficiency. Came for the nitro cold brew, but they were out. Opted for a Dirty Horchata Latte and a De La Olla Latte both iced with almond milk. Drinks were great and the service was friendly and quick. This is my new favorite coffee shop! The last 2 mornings I came before work and ordered an iced Horchata Latte. It was sooooooo delicious and strong! The coffee tastes different than every other place in the US because they cook the beans instead of roasting them. Cooking the beans is Mexican style, which makes sense since this company started in Mexico. It is SO cute inside, too; definitely instagram photo worthy. The last two days I tried the strawberry, Napolitano, and orchata conchas; the Napolitano flavor was my favorite. They change the flavor of those bakery items each day. The women who work here are very nice and service is fast. They have free wifi so you can bring a computer and work, or surf on your phone. It does get a little chilly inside since they leave the door open, so bring a sweater in the weather right now. I will 100% be back soon! I'm glad this place made their way to Escondido. read more

New place in esco that is also in TJ. I love the ambiance and bright cheerful colors. The interior is specious with plenty of big tables for working and meeting with friends and family. The coffee was actually pretty solid however they are priced too high... $7.30 for a 12oz specialty latte. There are other specialty coffee roasters in the immediate area that are priced way more reasonably, should be like $5.30. If they adjust their pricing, which I hope they do as we need more indy coffee shops in Esco I would return. read more

The Dirty Hortacha Latte is everything you expect when you order one at a cafe. It's not some knock-off chai latte. You can really taste the horchata. Im so impressed. They have their grand opening today, 4/12/25, and we went to try different items, but nothing was available. Someone was trying to get it going but then everything was taken away. Would've been nice to try their cold brew that was advertised. Staff was busy but still polite. They greeted you and seemed to be happy you are there. I hate it when I go to a place and staff are miserable. Not here. They all seemed enjoy their job. We got an iced dirty chai, $7.50, mini Oreo concha, $3+, and an americano, $4+. The concha was decent, dirty chai was on the sweeter side and the americano was delicious. I really wanted to try their cold brew because I have seen amazing reviews, but the price was a bit high and I figured I would try something different since they were supposed to have free cold brew for the grand opening. Inside feels like a pastel version of the 80s. Great for pictures and the music was quiet enough that if you wanted to having coffee with someone or do some work, you would be able to just fine. They are dog friendly and have WiFi too. Love that this place is different from every other coffee place, but a bit pricey to be my daily or weekly go to. Absolutely need to try this place though and see what your new favorite drink will be! read more

I came in on a Sunday morning and was delighted to see how vibrant the interior design is. Definitely love the vibe it gives off when you first walk in. The baristas were friendly. I'd never tried hot matcha before (I always get it iced), so I decided to try the blueberry matcha hot. Oh em gee it was so good, I was sad when it was finished. I've been on the hunt for good matchas in SD/Esco and the blueberry matcha did not disappoint! I think it's syrup and not fresh blueberry but it still tastes good and I finished it so fast lol. It is on the sweeter side tho but that's how I prefer it. For the IVL, you can taste a nuttier, chocolately flavor from how they prepare their beans and the drink is not too bitter while being not too sweet. Oreo concha and the sourdough sandwich was good for a quick lunch too. Cafe interior has comfy chairs and big tables if you wanted to come do some work (with free wifi!). Will be back :) read more

It's one of those places that looks better in pictures than in real life. I had a bagel and horchata latte. The bagel was forgettable, and the latte tasted mostly of cinnamon. It's hard to find a place that makes good, authentic cafe de olla here in Escondido and this place did not disappoint. Their matcha latte however, needs a little improvement hence the 4 star. I appreciate their matcha being a ceremonial grade but I think it's really grainy and needs more whisking to smooth out the powder. This place is amazing! They just opened. They are coffee roasters from Tijuana where they already own 2 shops. Their espresso is phenomenal and they put a lot of effort and care into it. I love that I keep seeing new cute small businesses pop up in Escondido! I had to come check out illustre when i saw how cute their interior was. The place is super clean and not too busy when I came which was good for me to chill out and read a book. I got a cafe de olla latte and it was strong, so if you pick me up definitely get that. The only thing i think hindering this place is the location, its not in a high traffic area with other shoppers willing to get coffee so it seems like theyre getting a slow start.
