I was visiting San Diego and came across Matcha Maiko, so l decided to stop by because I'd been wanting to try their matcha. When I walked in, the kiosks weren't working, so ! waited at the front for someone to take my order. Instead, all I could hear was an older lady loudly screaming at one of the employees. It was loud enough that I could hear everything from the front counter, and it honestly gave me secondhand embarrassment. The employee was being embarrassed in front of everyone in the store, which made for a really uncomfortable atmosphere. Because of the confusion, I ended up ordering through their website instead. Unfortunately, the drink was disappointing. They added a huge scoop of strawberry syrup that completely overpowered the drink. I went there to try Matcha Maiko's matcha, not a cup full of strawberry syrup. On top of that, the syrup wasn't even mixed in properly, so l kept getting mouthfuls of syrup at the bottom I was really looking forward to trying this place, but between the uncomfortable experience in the store and the poorly made drink, it wasn't the experience I had hoped for. read more

We got two of the bubble waffle ice creams ($30 total). They were delicious, but value was a bit off. Didn't have a ton of ice cream for the price, and one of the cups had a pretty big air gap in the ice cream center. The kiosk was experiencing wifi issues, so after a very frustrating 7 minutes trying to place an order, we finally got to talk to someone at the counter to place our order. In the meantime, four line-cutters jumped in front of us. The staff member at the counter could have stopped them from cutting line, but didn't. I stopped by Matcha Cafe Maiko in Escondido for the first time and had a nice experience. It's a small, cute shop with nice decor and just a few seats inside. You can either order at the counter or use the self service kiosk. Even though it's a tight space, everything felt well organized, and my order came out pretty quickly. There's also plenty of parking in the shopping center. My date and I shared the matcha and ube swirl soft serve in a cup, and the portion was surprisingly generous. It was more than enough for the two of us. The soft serve was incredibly creamy and looked beautiful. I realized I'm just not a huge fan of matcha's earthy flavor, but that's completely personal preference. The ube side, on the other hand, was delicious, and I'd definitely order that again. This matcha place is really all about matcha. I got the tiramisu hojicha latte and the tiramisu matcha latte. Both drinks come with an actual slice of tiramisu on top, which surprised me, l thought it would be more like a tiramisu flavored drink with hojicha or matcha mixed in. The tiramisu itself is really good, but personally I don't think it goes well with the drink. The texture of the cake while sipping the latte feels a little off. I also tried the nitro Vietnamese coffee. It was unusual because when you hear "Vietnamese coffee" you expect something strong, but this one was light and you can really taste the milk. I really enjoyed the bubble waffle series-especially the Oreo one. It's really good. The honey toast series was okay, nothing special. I got the honey toast with ice cream, and I remember honey toast being crispy but still easy to eat. This one wasn't crispy at all and the bread was tough. Upon entering the establishment I was completely unaware that this location is self order on a kiosk. Employees would just look at us but don't greet customers. Whenever i see a Matcha Cafe Maiko it's a must to go! The matcha itself is delicious , but the banana pudding topping? AMAZING! (Third cup in) My favorite thing on the menu. My sister got the iced matcha latte with whip cream and loved it! (First drink) my boyfriend got the iced matcha latte with chocolate drizzle, his two favorite things, and wanted to go back for more from how delicious it was. I was so excited to try this location as I was just so happy to have found one on the mainland. I absolutely loved them when I lived on Oahu (their first cafe was in Honolulu), and I'm so happy this is no different! This location has just as great of options, service, and quality. I'm not sure if this location sources their matcha from Harima Garden, like the Honolulu store does, but their matcha is definitely richer than other local cafes that typically sell matcha. I really do love coming here for a sweet treat! It's super easy to order off of their kiosk and then wait a few minutes for your order. They do have a lot of seating inside but it is a tight fit, especially when busy. Luckily there is some outdoor seating as well. When they are busy it does take a bit of time for your order to be made, but it hasn't been a ridiculous wait any time I've gone. Their matcha is worth it! I recently ordered the Ube cold foam Matcha Latte and it was just pure heaven. Matcha and Ube always pair well together and the fluffiness of the Ube cold foam and the richness of the matcha together really just came together perfectly. It's a dream come true honestly. This was my first time coming here. I got a Matcha Tea with Mango Jelly and my daughter got a Strawberry Milk Tea with boba and crystal boba. Both were delicious. You can pick your level of sweetness too. I've been here a few times since it they opened. I like that they have seasonal menu options and their menu seems to have gotten bigger throughout the last few months. The place has gained more popularity and over the weekends can get pretty busy. However wait times aren't too long. I never wait more than 10 minutes for my order. I love their matcha lattes, very potent. I also very much enjoy the soft serve, especially the ube. It's nice to have an Asian dessert and cafe spot in north county.
