There definitely isn't a shortage of boba shops in San Diego, however, The Boba Co figured out a way to stand out. We walked in and first impression was that it was a clean, black & white decorated store, blasting hip hop / rap. The cashier was really friendly, chatty, and helped us customize our drinks. He was a big part of what made our first time there memorable. We picked this spot because we were looking for honeydew melon slush and they had it (both honeydew melon milk tea and slushie formats). We also got a Passionfruit Green Tea with Boba - 0% sweet. Both were perfect. The sweetness from the boba pearls was more than enough for my passionfruit tea and the honeydew melon slush was on point. The walls are decorated with framed black & white photos of hip hop / rap artists. After making our drinks, the cashier quizzed us on our hip hop artist knowledge :) If you grew up in the 80s-90s, this place will take you back to the golden days of hip hop/rap. Wow, who knew that San Marcos had boba this good?! Would totally recommend it over the other places nearby. I ordered the strawberry matcha, and next time I would get it almost no sugar since the boba and strawberries are sweet. Portion was great too, matcha was delicious. I came here with Justine and she ordered a white grape drink - that was pretty good too! Service was great. The owner was super nice to answer our questions and show us his matcha that was legit. :) Plenty of chairs to sit here and chill. Very instagrammable too with the white tiles haha. Service was fast. I ordered the Thai Milk Tea with boba. I got it cold with no ice and half sugar. I love that you can customize the drink. It had a good portion of boba and the boba was fresh and chewy. My only complaint are the lids. I prefer the sealed one so I can swirl my drink upside down to mix up the boba and drink. This was my first time trying boba co's matcha latte with boba. Their boba was amazing, super chewy and sweet, but the matcha latte was not that impressive. Even though I got light ice, it seemed slightly watered down. Before leaving, I even asked to confirm that there was milk in it, just because there wasn't much flavor. When we visited, it was not busy so we were able ask the employees which drinks they recommend or which are popular since it was our first time trying this shop. We ordered the Organic House Black Milk Tea with boba and the Lychee Fruit Tea with lychee jelly. Both drinks were really good and that was with 100% sweetness on both. They were not super sweet which is what I liked. The boba is the best boba consistency I've had in a while. It's the perfect amount of soft and chewy. They really know how to make good boba. Me and my wife came in for lunch after hearing how good this spot was, and we were immediately greeted by Kent & Miguel with extreme kindness and amazing service. We ordered 2 espresso milk teas and 3 quesabirria tacos. Our food came out very quick and Miguel brought us an extra quesabirria tacos. We chatted with Miguel for a while and had an amazing time and great conversation, and the food was amazing. We got to try a carnitas taco as well, that was amazing. The quesabirria was insanely flavorful, and extremely tender and not dry. The Habanero salsa packed the perfect amount of heat and was extremely flavorful as well. The drinks were delicious and the boba was perfect, Miguel told us they make the Boba every 3 hours to keep it fresh, and it definitely was. This was truly the best most friendly and attentive service we have ever had, and we will absolutely be back, and soon! Thank you Miguel and Kent for your amazing service and delicious food. I've never tried this place, but I left reasonably impressed. They have all the signs of a great and consistent tea place- sugar is dispensed by those Asian machines, milk is precisely measured out, tea is freshly brewed and not oversteeped, cold drinks are hand shaken with ice and then poured. Pretty good customer service to boot. Overall, a 4.5! Ordered the dark oolong milk tea with fresh milk and boba on a Saturday around 4, and there was no wait. It came out to a little over $6. Tea strength (4.5/5): could definitely taste the tea, but I personally prefer stronger tea flavor especially for dark oolongs. But they did a good job not oversteeping it. I ordered it with fresh milk, but I'm sure if you do it with the default non-dairy creamer, it will probably taste stronger. Tea sweetness (3/5): I ordered 50% sweet and it was still pretty sweet (I generally prefer things only slightly sweet). I could go down to 0% with boba or 25% without boba. Boba texture (4/5): It was QQ, but definitely a "harder" chew rather than a soft or medium. Acceptable, but could be slightly softer (I prefer medium QQ). It would probably be perfect with a hot drink instead of iced. Not to worry, the hardness of the chew wasn't to the point where the texture was gritty or anything. Boba flavor (5/5): Yummy and flavorful! Unlike other shops where it tastes like nothing. A solid drink that hit the spot. Wish they had popcorn chicken if they're already doing fried chicken steaks!!! Would definitely come back if I were back in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to make a stop. read more

This is The Boba CO's second location. They just opened this location two weeks ago. When you first walk in, you'll notice that they have a very open floor plan and a great interior design. They have a very unique hexagon flower tiled floor (see photos) and a series of photos of old school hip hop artists. To add in to the hip hop theme, they have a huge quote plastered on their wall- it says, "I got 99 problems, but boba ain't one." It made me giggle. Even though they were thirty mins away from closing time, the staff were very welcoming. We ordered a strawberry matcha with boba and a dark roasted oolong tea with boba. Shockingly, the drinks here were very reasonably priced- at $4.95 for a regular size. I haven't seen a price that low for boba in a long time. They even have Taiwanese popcorn chicken here! I'll try that next time. We really enjoyed our tea here, however, the boba was not cooked long enough so it was still slightly tough. The wait time for the drinks was also longer than other places but that's likely just because these were new staff members. Excited to go back and try a different drink next time! read more

I can't believe it took me this long to check this absolute gem of a place! Tucked away in the corner of the Walmart/ Kohl's/ Costco shopping center over by the taco there is the best boba shop I've been to in North County. The staff is incredibly friendly and we're happy to answer all our questions and even let my daughter sample some of the jellies before choosing which to add to her drink. I love that they have a zero sweetness option for their drinks and various milk alternatives as well as organic whole milk. The food is also delicious! My boba order is always a Thai ice tea with boba. Sadly, too many places fail at making a good Thai tea. ylYou know who made it perfect? This place! Drink was perfectly flavored where there wasn't too much or too little of anything. They even portion the boba to drink ratio perfectly. More importantly, no annoying layer that I need to poke the straw through. It was just a regular cup cover with a hole for the straw. Couldn't ask for a better drink. My husband, who is not big on boba and only has it for my sake, loved his sour apple green tea with boba drink. He told me that we can come back. I never thought I'd hear those words out of him. As for the atmosphere, I was telling the ladies behind the counter, I loved it so much. It feels like most boba places have this traditional cutesy atmosphere going. Honestly, I'm sick of it. The fact that this location has a hip-hop feel to it blew me away. Great music feom my childhood. Great art or hip hops greatest. I just felt cool being inside and I havent felt cool in many years. I couldn't taste much brown sugar. I ordered it as it came with non dairy creamer but there is the option to have it creamier if made with milk so I'll try that next time. About 6/10 (im also extremely picky w/brown sugar so it was about what I expected) *Passionfruit Butterfly: OH. This was ssoooo tasty!! I can't wait to try the other flavors of this. I got it with mango popping boba which not a lot of places have so it was a real treat. But it wasn't too sweet at all. I slurped it down so fast haha. 9/10 *Oreo Taro: this was also so yummy. Neither the Oreo or taro over powered each other. Ordered with egg pudding which they gave a generous amount of. Pretty tasty wish it was creamer in texture but flavor was great! *Chik Chop: 11/10.
