I love this place!! I started coming here when it barely opened and they served mango sticky rice in a carton to go plate. Since then I have been hooked! I love love love the banana matcha or their coconut water with matcha foam. To be completely honest, I was never a fan of their other dessert puddings or tiramisu's because of how overly sweet almost everything is. I think sometimes even the seasonal drinks can get pretty sweet as well. I'm not sure yet because I haven't asked but it would be nice to be able to adjust sweetness for drinks. This place has been on my radar for the longest time. I finally found myself up in North County and knew I had to stop by. From what I remember, Oh My Pate Cafe used to sell banh mi sandwiches. Now they focus on coffee, matcha, sugarcane juice, and desserts. Honestly, I think the drinks and banh mi would have been the perfect combo, but maybe one day they'll bring them back. When I walked in, the cashier was working by herself and helping another customer. I completely understand being busy, but there wasn't much acknowledgment when I came in, so the shop felt a little uninviting at first. The cafe itself was very clean and cute. I noticed their July special was the Corn Matcha, which immediately caught my attention because it's one of my favorite matcha flavor combinations. I knew that was going to be my order. I ordered the large Corn Matcha. Their menu advertises ceremonial Uji matcha made with Oatly oat milk. My 24-ounce drink came out to a little over $10 before tip, which honestly caught me off guard. I think that's the most I've ever paid for a matcha, even compared to shops in downtown San Diego. At that price, my expectations were definitely high. I did notice they pre-batch their matcha. Personally, that doesn't bother me too much because I don't think it changes the flavor that much. I know some people care about the authenticity of whisking each drink to order, especially when you're paying premium prices, but for me it comes down to whether it tastes good. The matcha itself had a smooth flavor and was strong enough to actually taste like matcha instead of milk. It even kept me awake for a few hours afterward, which is always a good sign. The corn cream on top was rich without being overly sweet, and I loved that they added real corn pieces along with corn flakes. It made the drink taste much more natural instead of tasting like artificial corn flavoring. The quality of the matcha was definitely there. My biggest hesitation is simply the price. It's hard for me to justify spending over $10 on one drink, even though I genuinely liked it. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time, and honestly, it was just okay. I ordered the banana matcha & overall it was pretty mid and way too sweet. I tried the matcha on its own before mixing, and I could barely taste it, which was disappointing. The banana cream by itself was really good and probably the highlight of the drink. Customer service was not the best, but a bit awkward. I asked a question about an ingredient and didn't really get a response, just a nod, which felt a little dismissive. How exciting to see a new Vietnamese business open up in this area! I often visit San Diego and am always looking for some yummy Vietnamese coffee and drinks. The interior was very cute and aesthetic. There are some tables and chairs around to chill or study. We ordered the pandan matcha, Ube matcha, and mango matcha. It a while for the drinks to come out and when it did, the worker just plopped the drinks onto the counter next to us. We were very confused and asked if it was ours. They said yes, but we saw that one of the drinks was pink and asked what it was. They said it was the strawberry one and we told them we didn't order that. They tried to argue with us and said yes, it is. I had to show them my receipt for them to do a double take. Another worker came by and helped them out but, what an odd experience. During this day, we saw on Instagram that they were giving out free chè. The person that took our order and plopped down our drink didn't give us any. I saw a new cashier give it to people after us and asked for some. Not sure what happened with that one worker but wasn't the best experience for us. I was really hoping the drinks would make up for the service but it was just okay to me. The flavoring for both the pandan and Ube didn't really taste like pandan or Ube. My review is based solely off of the bbq pork bahn bi sandwich I had today. The service was good, friendly staff, place was small but cute. But this sandwich...I was sadly disappointed. I love me a good bahn mi. This was probably my least favorite I have ever had. Where to begin? The bread was so crunchy that it hurt the roof of my mouth, it was painful to eat. The carrots had this extreme vinegar flavor, overpowering everything. The bbq pork had no flavor, very hard to chew as if it was old, and also had so many inedible fat pieces that I had to spit out. And there was basically a half of a cucumber placed inside. The portion was large but the flavors and quality was a miss for me. Sorry guys, I really wanted to like this place. My first time trying in the area, my boyfriend and i loved it! So much so he went back for another matcha! The staff was so friendly and gave us their favorites on the menu. Not saying the food is bad in San Marcos, but their matcha and banh mi were so impressive and delicious! We tried the crispy pork belly banh mi, bbq pork banh mi, blueberry matcha, and banana matcha. The banh mi bread was nice and crispy while still soft and fluffy. They don't skimp on the meat and the mayo is delicious. Their coffee is nearly as much as it cost for a báhn mì so seeing that turned me off. The drink options look great, but at $7.99 I rather just make my own at home. I've had my fair share or vietnames sandwiches considering my location of work and comparing their sandwiches to the restaurants I frequent during lunch break, I can clearly say that these sandwiches are at best 3/10. They practically give you a whole cucumber in your sandwich and a thick green jalapeño. The bread was overly toasted and irritated the roof of my mouth. Pork Belly was extremely fatty. Pieces of the pork belly skin could not be possibly consumed by human kind. and the same issue with a halved cucumber and chili pepper were shoved into this sandwich. Saw this place advertised on social media and decided to give it a try, my friend and I got the lychee green tea and the mango green tea. It was about $9 for a large each. The mango green tea was yummy I really enjoyed the mango chucks at the bottom of the drink it was really great. So, I'm back LOL. I noticed the cups were the same as shown on the menu which was a very pleasant change. I'd say this change has made the ranking of this shop in my list go from a "in the area" shop to a destination shop (will go out of the way to grab some because the drinks are worth it). The coffee quality is still good as always and the egg cream coffee is still a 10/10. I'm excited to see what new items will soon be added to the menu and this might just be my team's goto coffee & matcha shop with the growth and progress. I'm so glad an egg cream coffee place opened up, a good one, the Viet coffee is strong and it's an actual drink and not like a dessert drink. It's a bit pricey compared to my favorite one in Mira Mesa, but it's the only good one in town, and they open early. I've tried their matcha with ube foam, it's good but I'm just not a matcha person. Wish they had regular milk tea. I could use a good milk tea. It's a perfect stop for us to come by and grab some coffee before heading to the zoo. We also got a banh mi, the bbq pork (char siu style). I've also tried the pork belly and beef. The beef had a great peppery taste. I like! And The pork belly is amazing! So good. The banh mi is large and they are pretty generous with the portion, unlike other banh mi places in San Marcos. I'm a fan and hopefully they last. This location has been 2 other food joints. I hope they get their kinks worked out too. Currently it does take a bit for food and drinks to come out because they don't pre-make anything. It's made to order. Wow, what an amazing addition to the north county food scene! We tried the crispy pork belly and the pepper beef and both are so juicy and flavorful. The ham strips are my favorite part and the pate is creamy and luscious. The portions are huge! A sandwich is enough for two meals. I also tried the coconut sugarcane juice and it was so so good and sweet and tropical. The taro tea was also yummy. We got the pandan banana pudding and it was loaded with bananas and cookies. Everything is so so good. My only suggestion would be to offer some side items with the sandwiches. Even just some chips or a bowl of delicious steamed rice. The counter service is so friendly and sweet. There aren't a lot of tables so you might have to take it to go. The tables they do have are clean and modern though. read more

The first time I went there to order a banana matcha was really, however, it's not the same quality anymore :(. Also they don't do splits but instead they give you a cup of ice for you to pour the rest of your drink..but it's not the same. I am so happy there's a cafe serving Vietnamese coffee and matcha in north county, let alone San Marcos!!! We only tried the drinks this time but we are excited to come back. It wasn't that crowded. Drinks were ordered with no ice and minimal/25% sugar but came with ice and definitely sweeter. Taro milk tea was milk on bottom with a layer of taro cream on top - different and barely any taro flavor when mixed in. Went around 11:30am on a Monday and it was empty. Cafe was nice and clean and the staff was super friendly. We ordered two drinks and two Banh Mi's. Both drinks came out within 10mins and food within 15mins. She actually made the coffee fresh, which is bold because if you know how to make Vietnamese coffee, you know it takes time. At restaurants they will either have you make it at your table or pre-make it and just serve it upon ordering. So it was nice that they take the time to actually make it fresh. I did wish it would be a bit more strong and Vietnamese coffee is best for their strong flavor. The banana cream was really good with the appropriate amount of banana flavor and sweetness. Not too much of that fake banana flavor like some other places. Banh Mi came in their freshly made crispy and soft baguette with a lot of vegetables, pate and your choice of protein. All Banh mi's come with Pate, egg sauce, carrot, daikon pickles, cilantro, cucumber, and jalapeño. So if there's anything you don't like, make sure to tell them when you order. Loved their meat seasonings and the fresh taste of the vegetables. The beef didn't have such a strong garlic flavor incase you are worried.
