I've always loved the matcha lattes from here and have told everyone it's one of the best. Today was not it. I came in and ordered through the kiosk while the lady, apparently she's the owner?, in the front was still helping the customer figure out what she wanted to order. After that customer ordered, she proceeded to make her order first. Fine, I have time (kind of) and yes, that customer was there first. She continued chatting away and I finally get my drink about 10 mins later. Now let's talk about the drink. I saw her scoop maybe a teaspoon of matcha into the shaker and shook it with the oat milk. I have been a loyal customer here for many years. It's definitely the best Boba place in Poway area. I would say it's the most consistent for sure so I have many points and many visits from here. I never had any issues with the service or anything like that this review is just for the quality of the drink from today as you can see from the photo I ordered the strawberry Matcha latte and I've gotten this drink many times but today the only thing that I can taste is the strawberry and the milk. Awww what happened? I don't think I've ever had a bad boba drink here...until today. Sad face. Our drinks were watered down significantly...you could even tell just by how they looked that they would not taste good. So I ended up just buying some oatmilk and trying to fix both of our drinks. My go-to is typically blueberry matcha, but they were out today. Not sure what happened but hopefully this experience was just a one off. We were even going to go to Ding Tea down the road but this was closer to where we had lunch. Note: their drinks are normally very good here. Today, not so much. We drank about 1/4 of ours and tossed it in the trash. It just wasn't good at all...not creamy and just plain watery like skim milk used even though we asked for oatmilk. The gal helping was a tad grumpy so we killed her with kindness and she was nicer after. There aren't many boba shops in Poway unfortunately so this was one of the few. Interior reminds us of boba guys and the drinks came out relatively quickly. Service was nice and friendly as well. Honestly, I love boba and it's upsetting that what could be such a great place because of the kind workers and nice seating area inside isn't that great because of the high pricing and the cost of every single item. Such a cool spot! Everything about this place was great from the decor and the friendly staff to the 90's hip hop playlist. This place is always poppin! Every time we come here, it's packed with adults, teens and families. And they crack out the drinks so fast! It's a neighborhood favorite for sure! Highly recommend the butterfly juice as it's no caffeine. My kiddos love it! Their matcha is from Japan!! Say what!!! They always play the best 90s music. Can't beat that!! Easy ability to order online. I've come here on both busy and not so busy days and the service is always the same. The drinks taste great and I like the option to count for sweetness levels when ordering online. I've always wanted to come back and try a fruit tea. I'm not a fan of fruit teas that use syrup. Most of the fruit teas here are made with 25% syrup. However, they have organic options like strawberry and blueberry that aren't syrup based. I tried the organic strawberry green tea, no sugar and added lychee jelly and it was very good! It was fresh and wasn't too sweet at all. Will def come back and try the organic blueberry as well. I've come here multiple times now and the boba is always good, the perfect amount of chew and texture. I like to try a different drink every time and this visit was the Oreo milkshake (written on the chalkboard at the counter, not sure if it's on the menu). We also got the organic house black tea and honeydew smoothie. All of them were super good, and while the honeydew drinks are a very unnatural bright green the taste is excellent. The person taking our order was friendly, and we got out drinks within 5 minutes (there was no one there but when we left a bunch of people came in). The place itself is clean, there's a couple spots to sit and music playing too. I wasn't sure what to expect from a local boba shop in the Poway area (I mainly frequent UTC and Convoy for my boba fix) but this place totally delivered! The boba itself was flawless and wonderfully cooked -- soft, chewy, and so syrupy which is exactly how I love my boba, and I thought it was actually much better than the boba at a lot of places on Convoy (e.g. Wushiland, Gong Cha). Got the rose matcha latte which was a beautiful drink and also tasted great, although despite ordering at 50% sugar it was still very sweet; might go for 25% next time. Place was quite busy when I came on a Sunday afternoon but service was still fast! Note no public restrooms here, though it is located in a large plaza with a lot of grocery stores/other businesses. Easy parking. Might not recommend studying here just because of the high traffic of customers and noise level. Will definitely come back if I'm ever in the Poway area! read more

Had this place bookmarked to try for a long time. Boba is good. Tea was disappointing though. The boba here is cooked nicely. Soft, chewy. I liked that the size of the boba was slightly bigger than most places - it gave a really satisfying chew. So many places undercook the boba but that wasn't the case here so that was great. My organic house jasmine green oat milk tea was disappointing though...love that they offer oat milk but the tea was bitter and while some people enjoy that...I do not. I like a smooth jasmine tea with a lot of jasmine aroma and no bitterness. So unfortunately the tea wasn't a good match for me. My husband had the brown sugar boba oat milk and it was okay, I didn't really enjoy the flavor of the brown sugar. Something about it tasted kinda off. We were in the area and decided to stop by this place since we have never tried it before. The ambience is a small yet cozy boba shop, and has photogenic decor on every wall. I ended up getting my "go to" drink which was the earl grey milk tea. I was honestly surprised they had it since most boba shops have a generic black milk tea. It was very flavorful, and tea forward. I was a patron of The Boba Co since they opened a few years back. I frequently visited their establishment during lunch when I worked in Poway. I was a huge fan of their Thai tea especially. It used to be sweet and creamy. Just a heads up, for those that like their boba a certain way, they serve their boba warm in a soft plastic cup. Some people may not like that, but I didn't mind it. They used to have a loyalty punch card for frequent visitors such as myself too. The decor is minimalistic, having photos of big hip-hop influences from the 90s on the counter tops was a nice touch. They also played 90s hip-hop/rap daily if you like that vibe. When COVID happened, I was relieved to see they survived. But since the pandemic calmed down, the quality of taste has severely downgraded. Prior to this visit, I haven't returned since 2022 because the Thai tea I had was so watered down and the boba was overcooked and slimy. I gave it 2 separate tries in case they were having a bad day but the results were the same. On top of that, they told me they weren't honoring their punch cards during the pandemic and told me to just throw it away. As a loyal customer, I think they could've phrased that better. I've moved out of town since then so coming to Boba Co. is really out of my way. But I really loved their tea and figured it was worth the drive deep into Poway. It's been 2 years so I thought, "Maybe they've gotten better by now." I ordered a Thai tea and my husband got this iced matcha latte. I am sadly disappointed that the Thai tea was worse than I remembered, having a strange aftertaste that I can't wash down with water. I selected 100% sweetness level but it was awfully bitter and not what I craved at all. The orange dye of the Thai tea also immediately stained my teeth which it's never done before. But what really set me over the top to write this review was this matcha latte. I have never tasted a matcha drink that tasted like nori (seaweed) before. I love sushi but I don't want to drink it. This had to be the final straw for me (no pun intended). I've given them plenty of time to train their staff to make the drinks with care. The boba tasted so fresh & chewy. It was really good. Seemed like the boba even had a slight honey flavor to it. I got 50% sweet but tbh the drink was still too sweet for me. SERVICE What I wish they would do is label the drinks with my name/order on it. Or at least a sharpie with my initials on it. Each cup comes out with no label whatsoever so it's super confusing when you're trying to find your order. People were grabbing the cups and turning them around to find a label. Kinda gross considering the ongoing pandemic. The staff here do not say anything when they're done making their drinks. They just leave them on the counter, one by one. Lol. And they're not labeled with the drink order, the order number, and they never took my name. You have to ask them what each drink is & if you hear the one you ordered, you just take it. What?? Came here with a friend the other day to get our boba fix! She swears by this place and says their boba is probably her favorite in town. I didn't even know it existed so I was happy to get to try a new boba spot. They're doing some adjustments to their menu so only a partial menu is available right now. I got their organic house jasmine green milk tea with regular boba. My friend got her usual drink the OG (which I'm going to try next time!)
