A new coffee joint filling in the space of a long departed coffee joint. There are some unique coffee beverages on the menu that are pretty good. The pastries can be a little hit-or-miss, but there are a few goodies. Cherry Danish: Wasn't impressed. Felt like Costco quality. The dough wasn't flaky. The cherry filling wasn't very complex; didn't even have a little tartness. Cannonini Dulce De Leche: Couldn't resist the large vein of dulce de leche in the middle of this tubular pastry. The dulce de leche was, of course, delicious. The pastry itself seemed kinda dry. Alfajor: A classic way to deliver dulce de leche. Buttery cookies surrounding the filling. Excellent when paired with coffee. Carne Asada Empanada: Very hearty, almost like a mini meal. Lots of ground beef jam packed into the crisped pastry shell. Seemed reheated to order, so the dough was bordering on being over cooked, but the filling was great. Spinach & Cheese Empanada: Way more spinach than cheese. It was good for sure, especially if you like greens, but I was hoping for stronger cheese presence. Honey (Raw) Cinnamon Latte: Definitely had a strong cinnamon taste. Tasted sweet enough, so didn't need any extra sugar, though I wouldn't say the honey flavor was dominant. Tasty overall, but felt kinda small for $7. read more

I ordered a small iced mocha $7 + $1 milk substitute, and it was the most expensive 12oz iced mocha I bought. I understand it's in the financial district, farm to table business, but the price point isn't for me. But anyway the iced mocha was really good. The coffee took a while as well, seeing he's the only one working at that time. Even though I was the first person in line, it felt like I had to wait 5 minutes for my mocha. Coffee bodega is one of my favorite coffee shops downtown. There is a surprising lack of great coffee in the area, and Carlos & Carlos Jr have put in a lot of care in getting quality coffee. I usually get the cappuccino or cortado, and they're both great. Love the staff too. This new location is to the side of the salesforce building (next to tendergreens) on Fremont street, and it's got a nice swanky setup inside. Would def recommend. read more

I went here because I was recommended by a coworker. I wanted to try their mango drink but they ran out that day. Instead, I tried the matcha latte that was recommended by their cashier. It was so smooth and not grainy at all compared to other places I've tried. It's a super cute area to study or to get some work done. read more

I stumbled upon this shop during a group lunch outing to Tender Greens, I was in desperate need for a Matcha tea and luckily they had it on their menu . The barista, maybe the owner, appeared to be solo being the bar. He was not very personable, but did shame my oatmilk choice and pointed to coconut milk as the better alternative. I really wanted to like this place, as our downtown needs businesses and it replaces La Capra. In brief: good empanada, undrinkable Manguito, and in need of service lessons. First, the food. The BBQ pork empanada was freshly made, fully filled, and warm. I would have preferred cheese/more cheese, but it was fine. Second, the coffee. The description of the Manguito--a mix of mango powder, coffee, and other flavors--intrigued me. It was frankly undrinkable. Mealy, too rich, and too sweet. A few sips in, I began thinking of how to dispose of the beverage discreetly without offending the (then lone) employee. Third, the service. This is the big one. The place has a small placard that says "no long calls." I confess that I missed it. And so started a client call. Two minutes in, one of now three employees (who, BTW, was talking to two other employees) hails me from across the cafe. Abruptly interrupting my conversation mid-sentence, he basically tells me to "take it outside." No walking up to my table and politely saying, "I'm sorry. We have a no cellphone policy. Do you mind stepping outside?" Or waiting for me to finish (I almost was) and then advising me of the policy. And for context: For much of my visit, the place was empty. And then there was a couple joined -- who were engaged in their own audible conversation. Bodega: It's not the policy. Folks can respect that. From the reviews besides mine, the issue is how you communicate it. When you chastise a new patron in what is largely an empty establishment, can you really be surprised when they don't return? read more

I love everything about Coffee Bodega, from their ethically sourced amazing coffee and knowledgable, welcoming baristas to the relaxing atmosphere (love all the plants!). I first stopped in a year ago, drawn in by their fun sandwich board marketing sign with beautiful photography from the coffee fields promoting "Pure Latin American Dope" and the disclaimer "Not actually dope. Just great coffee. So good, it doesn't need sugar". The owner was friendly and took the time to discuss the business and the origins of the coffee. Every drink I've had there has been amazing and unique, unlike so many cookie cutter coffee shops. Generally most places with great coffee down here you have 50 people all "on a call" and talking at the top of their voice with no consideration of the people around them. I have read a couple of reviews about people being upset they can't take their work calls there. Go to your office, it's your business and your problem not anyone else's. No office? Go home then! Your roommate doesn't like it? Cool, I'm your roommate then and I don't like it either.
