It was my first time at Coffee Bodega and won't definitely be my last! I was in the area for a meeting but wanted to grab a coffee and light breakfast before I went into the office. Coffee Bodega was just around the corner of my destination, and it was a 5 minute walk from the Embarcadero bus station where I made my stop. The cafe was located in a little alley way next to Tender Greens and an ice cream parlor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was feeling the earthy vibe of the place. I could see how the place paid homage to South American cultures with their coffee and food (i.e. arepas, empanadas, and alfajores).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the most welcoming barista, which honestly made my day. She went above and beyond with her friendliness, helpfulness, and overall hospitality. She knew that I wasn't a regular and kindly offered her recommendations of their salted maple latte and mushroom and cheese empanada. Both items did not disappointed. The salted maple latte hit the spot, but the empanada was particularly the showstopper. Can't wait to try their other empanadas next time. read more

It's very unfortunate that this is one of the cafe you'll see as soon as you get out of Embarcadero Bart station A2 exit. Wanted to purchase coffee and use their bathroom on an early morning Friday. There was only one barista working which seemed to be fine as again still early. There was one person infront of us who was finishing their transaction. The barista then proceeded to making that customer's coffee which is fine - but the barista never acknowledge us. He saw us, looked at us but ZERO acknowledgement. That's fine, it's early, I said to myself. 35 mins later (a bit of exxageration) he finally walked back to the register without saying anything. And so I said hi can I pls get abc. his attention still w the customer infront me. Mind you a few people were starting to pile behind me. He rung me up then walked back to the bar to finish the drink. Then stayed there while chatting w that customer infront of me. Now the folks behind us left. I'm still waiting for my pastry. Ofcourse my very observant self was watching that interaction between the barista and the customer infront of me - they were exchanging phone numbers! So finally I realized that perhaps this is a regular customer that the barista has a crush on and finally asked for her number?! Idk. Would that be the appropriate place and time for it given there are other customers waiting? Def not imo Barista walked back finally greeted me like the first time he's seen me. The iced matcha latte was decent. It was foamy, a bit earthy, but nothing too special or extraordinary. They had other drinks I wanted to try like the mango latte but it was always sold out from the two visits I made here. For their customer service, the latte came out fast, which is great. However, from my first visit, I did not know there was a self-ordering iPad, which was covered by customers chatting around it. So I went straight to the cash register waiting for someone to assist me, but it was an awkward 4-5 minutes of me just waiting, making eye contact with the staff, and yet no one came up to me. Until the customers blocking the iPad finally received their order and left, I was able to see the iPad and browsed through the menu. The mango latte was sold out, but there was another drink that was missing in the iPad (not crossed off), but was present in their wall menu. I went back to the cash register and this time, tried calling out for help and after about four times of saying "Excuse me, hello?", the staff near me finally acknowledged me and said that the drink I was looking for was sold out. Not to put any assumptions here, but I know that almost all of their customers are in suits and ties and I was just dressed casually, but hopefully next time they pay equal attention to all of their customers. Avoid this spot if you plan on working or hold business meetings/calls. One of the baristas is the rudest I've ever encountered. I'd use harsher language if it wouldn't risk this review getting taken down. I was a paying customer and was doing work in the cafe. I joined a work call when he snuck behind me, looked at my screen and told me video calls aren't allowed. When I explained my colleagues were on video and I was not (understanding the privacy concerns), he called me a liar and told me get out of the store. I can't understand a coffee shop that doesn't allow calls, and especially ones where they think it's appropriate to spy over customers laptops. read more

Tried the mango latte. Something new and unique. There's a little bit of a snarkiness when I asked what was in it... "uh, mango" was the reply. I knew there was obviously mango, but I was curious if it was a mango purée, mango syrup, freeze dried mango... I just wanted to understand more about this drink before I ordered it. I ended up ordering the mango latte less sweet with the recommended coconut milk. It was interesting - the first few sips I didn't mind it so much, until I drank about a quarter. Then it became too sweet and started tasting like I was drinking a melted mango fruit roll up. The espresso and coffee is good, but next time I'll stick to a simple typical order. I understand there is a huge issue with fake service animals and individuals bringing their pets into businesses in San Francisco. I appreciate this employees stance to protect those with active service animals and questioning the legitimacy of my guide dog PIT. However, I was disappointed in the way I was approached. Starbucks is not the best coffee I have ever had, but it is consistent. Given my past experiences, I walked into Coffee Bodega with some skepticism. I ordered a latte and a pastry. The latte was fantastic. And the pastry was good too. I was able to sit and drink my coffee before going to my next appointment. My coworker and I were looking for another coffee shop for our afternoon break and we decided to check out Coffee Bodega since it was near our office and the shop was decorated so beautifully! When you walk in, you see such a vibrant space with greenery. There are plenty of tables and seats that are pretty comfy! When my coworker and I came around 2-3PM, it was pretty much empty besides another party of 2. The owner and cashier were there taking orders and making coffee. Both were super welcoming, inviting, and very nice. My coworker ended up treating me to coffee and we got the following: -Mocha Ghirardelli Latte $7 -Organic Salted Maple Latte (I believe) $7 I believe we got oat milk, which was an additional charge. REVIEW OF EACH ITEM: -Mocha Ghirardelli: This was pretty good! You do get a light hint of Ghirardelli chocolate/cocoa, but it's not overwhelming at all. The mocha itself was smooth and not too strong of a roast. Definitely nice for an afternoon pick me up if you don't want anything too energizing. 4/5 -Organic Salted Maple Latte: I got to try a sip and I really like this! My favorite coffee spot in all of San Francisco. The coffee is delicious, with drinks like El Saladito (organic maple syrup with a touch of pink salt), La Canela (organic raw honey and cinnamon) and Manguito (a mango latte). I have tried them all and they're all fantastic. I don't know how they source their coffee, but it is delicious and unique and is the best I've tasted in the city. In addition to having the best coffee in SF, they have a great location (right above Embarcadero BART) and very friendly and kind baristas. I go out of my way to come here before work because their coffee and service put Peet's and Starbucks to shame. We popped in here, and while there was only one baristi (male version of barista -- had to look that one up), my group, which included five or six people, didn't have to wait long for our orders, which ranged from coffee to more complicated lattes. I got an iced coffee, something easy to keep the line moving. And I liked how flavorful my coffee was. This is close to the Embarcadero MUNI station, so I stopped by for a latte when I saw their rows of empanadas that are baked-to-order. I had to get one. Came here for a coffee chat and this might be my new go to coffee shop in downtown! I ordered the salted maple latte and the mushroom empanada and spinach empanada to split with a friend. The salted maple latte was good but it didn't have a ton of the salted maple flavor. Would've preferred to just order a regular latte since they do have good quality espresso based on my drink. The empanadas were fried to order so it came out piping hot which was amazing! We both preferred the mushroom one since it had more flavor and was really cheesy. I was downtown and needed coffee and remembered this place being by the bart station, so I made my way back. I was intrigued by the farm to table concept and was pleased to see they had a basic, but sufficient (for me), espresso menu. I asked the gent behind the counter for his recommendation and ended up with the cinnamon latte and a muffin. I appreciate how cozy the cafe feels and that folks feel pretty intentional about being here. There's a sign for no long calls or speakerphone, the music isn't too loud, and any conversation has been with inside voices (which you would think is the case at all coffee shops but not true). I wanted something different than my typical cup of coffee from Starbucks so I wondered into the Coffee Bodega. I had been seeing signs for it but never made it in and finally decided to try it. Thankfully the line was short and I was able to order a cup of drip coffee and go. While waiting I met one of the owner and he was pretty dope. He gave me some history on the place and why they opened and I don't know, but it made the coffee that much better. I hate that they didn't offer a size bigger than 12oz., but it was strong enough to do what I needed so I'm appreciative. I paid about $4 for my cup of coffee and tipped $1 for the talk. This is by far the most convenient and high-quality coffee shop near Embarcadero station! With less than 13 minutes before my train, Carlos (the co-owner and usually the ONLY barista) amazes me every time by making a delicious latte in less than 10 min, even with people waiting ahead of me. I feel like I'm watching a live-action Overcooked! Eventually I'll branch out to try their other drinks, but for now I'm enjoying the Honey Cinnamon Latte.
