It was my first time at Coffee Bodega and won't definitely be my last! I was in the area for a meeting but wanted to grab a coffee and light breakfast before I went into the office. Coffee Bodega was just around the corner of my destination, and it was a 5 minute walk from the Embarcadero bus station where I made my stop. The cafe was located in a little alley way next to Tender Greens and an ice cream parlor. I was feeling the earthy vibe of the place. I could see how the place paid homage to South American cultures with their coffee and food (i.e. arepas, empanadas, and alfajores). As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the most welcoming barista, which honestly made my day. She went above and beyond with her friendliness, helpfulness, and overall hospitality. She knew that I wasn't a regular and kindly offered her recommendations of their salted maple latte and mushroom and cheese empanada. Both items did not disappointed. The salted maple latte hit the spot, but the empanada was particularly the showstopper. Can't wait to try their other empanadas next time. read more

Coming to the financial district means there are no longer any Starbucks to sit and have a coffee. Whenever I go to a local coffee shop, I am usually disappointed with the coffee. Starbucks is not the best coffee I have ever had, but it is consistent. Given my past experiences, I walked into Coffee Bodega with some skepticism. I ordered a latte and a pastry. The latte was fantastic. And the pastry was good too. I was able to sit and drink my coffee before going to my next appointment. The store is quiet enough to have a conversation and there were seats available. It close to the Embarcadero bart. I will come back again the next time I am in San Francisco. read more

Tried the mango latte. Something new and unique. There's a little bit of a snarkiness when I asked what was in it... "uh, mango" was the reply. I knew there was obviously mango, but I was curious if it was a mango purée, mango syrup, freeze dried mango... I just wanted to understand more about this drink before I ordered it. I ended up ordering the mango latte less sweet with the recommended coconut milk. It was interesting - the first few sips I didn't mind it so much, until I drank about a quarter. Then it became too sweet and started tasting like I was drinking a melted mango fruit roll up. The espresso and coffee is good, but next time I'll stick to a simple typical order. The employees there were friendly and remembered my name :) I took off a star because friends I was with had their orders mixed up, the wait time was very long, and the tablet where you're supposed to order wasn't working properly. I have had great experiences at Coffee Bodega in the past and very much enjoyed their coffee. However, last week I stopped by with my Guide Dog for the Blind Puppy in Training and was asked to leave. I understand there is a huge issue with fake service animals and individuals bringing their pets into businesses in San Francisco. I appreciate this employees stance to protect those with active service animals and questioning the legitimacy of my guide dog PIT. However, I was disappointed in the way I was approached. I did not plan on sitting down at Coffee Bodega regardless and was just getting a coffee on my way to work. I would have been happy to wait with my dog outside, after ordering, but the barista didn't even give me that option. read more

I came for the free WiFi, stayed for the chai by David Rio and empanadas. My friend and I planned to meet here to co-work and catch up. Upon first glance at the menu, I thought they only served coffee here, but I was pleased to see they also have tea latte options, and I got an iced chai with coconut milk, which was well-spiced but a tad too sweet. I also got a Mediterranean empanada, as they were out of the chicken, which I originally wanted, but I was satisfied with the veggie option I received. My favorite coffee spot in all of San Francisco. The coffee is delicious, with drinks like El Saladito (organic maple syrup with a touch of pink salt), La Canela (organic raw honey and cinnamon) and Manguito (a mango latte). I have tried them all and they're all fantastic. I don't know how they source their coffee, but it is delicious and unique and is the best I've tasted in the city. In addition to having the best coffee in SF, they have a great location (right above Embarcadero BART) and very friendly and kind baristas. I go out of my way to come here before work because their coffee and service put Peet's and Starbucks to shame. My coworker and I were looking for another coffee shop for our afternoon break and we decided to check out Coffee Bodega since it was near our office and the shop was decorated so beautifully! When you walk in, you see such a vibrant space with greenery. There are plenty of tables and seats that are pretty comfy! When my coworker and I came around 2-3PM, it was pretty much empty besides another party of 2. The owner and cashier were there taking orders and making coffee. Both were super welcoming, inviting, and very nice. My coworker ended up treating me to coffee and we got the following: -Mocha Ghirardelli Latte $7 -Organic Salted Maple Latte (I believe) $7 I believe we got oat milk, which was an additional charge. REVIEW OF EACH ITEM: -Mocha Ghirardelli: This was pretty good! You do get a light hint of Ghirardelli chocolate/cocoa, but it's not overwhelming at all. The mocha itself was smooth and not too strong of a roast. Definitely nice for an afternoon pick me up if you don't want anything too energizing. 4/5 -Organic Salted Maple Latte: I got to try a sip and I really like this! I can see why this is a fan favorite from this shop. The balance between honey and cinnamon was perfect. This is close to the Embarcadero MUNI station, so I stopped by for a latte when I saw their rows of empanadas that are baked-to-order. I had to get one. It came out toasty and delicious and paired with my honey cinnamon latte, it was the perfect breakfast. It might not be great to come if you're in a huge rush as there was one person working everything when I was there. Coffee Bodega was a solid option for a quick coffee on the way to the office for my recent work conference. We popped in here, and while there was only one baristi (male version of barista -- had to look that one up), my group, which included five or six people, didn't have to wait long for our orders, which ranged from coffee to more complicated lattes. I got an iced coffee, something easy to keep the line moving. And I liked how flavorful my coffee was. I will probably be back in SF next year -- more than likely staying at the same hotel and going to the same office -- so this may become a regular spot we stop at. read more

Came here for a coffee chat and this might be my new go to coffee shop in downtown! I ordered the salted maple latte and the mushroom empanada and spinach empanada to split with a friend. The salted maple latte was good but it didn't have a ton of the salted maple flavor. Would've preferred to just order a regular latte since they do have good quality espresso based on my drink. The empanadas were fried to order so it came out piping hot which was amazing! We both preferred the mushroom one since it had more flavor and was really cheesy. I was downtown and needed coffee and remembered this place being by the bart station, so I made my way back. I was intrigued by the farm to table concept and was pleased to see they had a basic, but sufficient (for me), espresso menu. I asked the gent behind the counter for his recommendation and ended up with the cinnamon latte and a muffin. I appreciate how cozy the cafe feels and that folks feel pretty intentional about being here. There's a sign for no long calls or speakerphone, the music isn't too loud, and any conversation has been with inside voices (which you would think is the case at all coffee shops but not true). I wanted something different than my typical cup of coffee from Starbucks so I wondered into the Coffee Bodega. I had been seeing signs for it but never made it in and finally decided to try it. Thankfully the line was short and I was able to order a cup of drip coffee and go. While waiting I met one of the owner and he was pretty dope. He gave me some history on the place and why they opened and I don't know, but it made the coffee that much better. I hate that they didn't offer a size bigger than 12oz., but it was strong enough to do what I needed so I'm appreciative. I paid about $4 for my cup of coffee and tipped $1 for the talk. I love the ambiance of this place too. It was very cozy and inviting. Definitely a place I can see working on my laptop and enjoying a cup. I'll definitely be back. read more

This is by far the most convenient and high-quality coffee shop near Embarcadero station! With less than 13 minutes before my train, Carlos (the co-owner and usually the ONLY barista) amazes me every time by making a delicious latte in less than 10 min, even with people waiting ahead of me. I feel like I'm watching a live-action Overcooked! Eventually I'll branch out to try their other drinks, but for now I'm enjoying the Honey Cinnamon Latte. I've gone back and forth if I should leave this review, but after seeing the owners retaliatory and aggressive nature I feel the need to share my story... i walked in and I got denied entry with my service dog immediately. I was approached very aggressively and mockingly, told that "that's not a service dog". He then proceeded to break the law by asking me what my disability was. I was shutting down bc of his temperament while he was asking me if I'm disabled and what his task is. I tried to explain that he's a psychiatric service dog (which is different than an ESA) and his task is alerting and grounding, like deep pressure therapy. My dog sensed he was needed at that moment and started doing his task, so I pointed and was told demeaningly "sitting on your foot isn't a service dog". So I'd like to take this time to educate the owner and employees that there is such a thing as psychiatric service dogs that is different than an ESA and not everyone "looks disabled". He has tried to slander my name saying I broke the law by trying to pass my dog off as a service dog but he had zero proof other than him discriminating against what me and my dog physically look like. I left the shop in tears dumbfounded by how a taller older man just stood over me speaking to me like that. my dog is in fact a service dog and I was a victim of a civil rights violation. As a tica, i was excited to try their coffee too, what a shame. read more

If I could rate zero stars, I would. Went in to ask to use the restroom. I was feeling ill and needed the bathroom urgently. I asked politely. Person at counter said restrooms were for paying customers. I responded I would buy something as soon as I came out. Person still refused. I begged with him and he still said no.
