The empanadas here are delicious! My favorite is the carne asada but you really can't go wrong with any of them! Definitely recommend!

I was in the area for a bit and this shop kept me alive with some tasty treats and good espresso. Great staff, great environment.

From the first time I went in there, I was very impressed with the quality and sincerity of the Customer Service by the front of the house staff, Carlos and his employee never made me feel rushed on putting in my order of espresso drink, and did a great job with helping me pick The most outstanding flavored empanada choices. So far, I've had four different flavored empanadas scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese Carne Asada Barbecue pork And the first one was not an empanada but a croissant but it was the most buttery delicious tasting croissant I've ever had . Each of the empanadas had something you rarely run into when it comes to empanadas, which is there's plenty of protein inside the pastry, which is very rare to find, and the pastry itself was just the right level of pastries. It wasn't just pastries with a little bit of protein, it was quite the opposite, which was refreshing to say the least . And ending I give the customer service and the quality of the espresso drinks five stars !!! The quality of the products which included the empanadas and the croissants five stars !!! The ambience of the interior location five stars !! The coffee is some of the best I've ever had! Love the atmosphere and ambiance as well.

I was in town from Lake Tahoe and my phone had died. So my friend and I decided to go to a nice coffee shop in town, charge our phones and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and chat. We walked in Coffee Bodega and found seating towards the back. I walked to the register and asked the guy if there were any outlets where we were seated because I couldn't find one. He said it was on the side of the couch. And as I turned around to walk to let my friend know. He asked if I was meeting someone. I was confused as to why he was asking. And I told him, no that I am here with my friend. He said, are you buying something? This was within 2 minutes of me arriving, I didn't get a chance to put my items down and settle in. And so I told him I didn't get a chance to put my things down yet and asked if he was discriminating against me and that I will be making a purchase on my own time. (We were planning to stay for about an hour) About 10 minutes passed and the co-founder Carlos came to me...not my friend (Im guessing the first guy told him something) and he asked if I was going to make a purchase. I'm black and my friend is white. I asked him if he always ask his customers to make purchases within minutes of them stepping into the space. He avoided the question and in a combative tone of voice stated that I needed to make a purchase or leave. I told him why do I have to leave when I told him I was going to make a purchase, but on my own time. He didn't want to hear it and said that I needed to leave and when I asked what is the owner's name. He said in an egotistical way, Hi my name is Carlos and I am the owner. Fast forward, my friend said let's just go because I would ask a question and he was being combative about everything. He or the other associate ended up calling the property security. So I told him I would leave if he could go to a different area because I didn't feel comfortable with him behind me. More than 10x and I said please and I told him I would leave. My friend also told him I was willing but he refused and said don't tell him what to do in his coffee shop. As a business owner, trauma-informed trainer and advocate for domestic violence survivors and families impacted by violence, this is an example of discriminatory abuse. The moment I stepped in. He never said anything to my friend. All the questions was towards me. This was soooooooooooo embarrassing for $12 worth of drinks that I was eventually going to buy if both associates would have just been an inclusive welcoming host to a visiting community member. That whole 20+ minute of nonsense could have been avoided and it was unnecessary from the moment we stepped in. I would not recommend if you are a person of color or not dressed in business attire. You will be discriminated against. I rate this coffee shop a "0" but yelp will not let me rate it a "0". read more

The co-owner Carlos was horrible! He might be Carlos Jr. Looks about 25 years old. Aggressive, rude, egotistical, disrespectful are a few words I would use to describe the interaction with this person. A couple days ago a friend and I were in San Francisco from out of town. We walked in with the intent to charge our phones and order a couple drinks and a pastry. Being unfamiliar with the layout, my friend asked the cashier where the outlets were so we could choose a seat closest to an outlet. The cashier was completely rude to my friend by answering with a condescending tone and questioning as to whether she would place an order. We literally just walked in and weren't even settled in. About 10-15 minutes later after sitting down, getting our phones plugged up, using the restroom, Carlos approaches us. He asked if we would be ordering. I responded and told him that my friend and I would order but were in the middle of a conversation. He proceeded to tell us that their rush time was coming soon and priority goes to paying customers. At this time, I was kind of taken back because of the hundreds of times I've been to coffee shops, I've never been rushed to place an order. My friend began to question Carlos as to why he wasn't questioning anyone else. She asked for his name and in a very ego driven manner he introduced himself as Carlos, the owner. He sounded so proud, but I was surprised an owner would speak to customers in the tone he chose to use. The interaction between my friend and Carlos quickly escalated from my friend questioning his motive for only approaching us to Carlos telling us we needed to leave. As my friend and I were packing up our phone chargers, Carlos came back with building security but his tone was more aggressive and his energy was heightened. He continued to tell us to leave, but at this point my friend didn't feel safe walking out with Carlos behind her back. She asked him to step towards the counter area so she could leave without him walking behind her. He aggressively told her that it's his coffee shop and she can't tell him where to stand. I tried to intervene and tell him we are going to leave but since my friend doesn't feel safe, if he could please step to the counter area then we'll leave. Honestly, Carlos may have had such an issue with my friend because she's black, or she's a woman, or because we weren't dressed professionally at the moment. This was such a disheartening experience. We were on vacation and just wanted to have some warm drinks, a snack and get our phones charged. Carlos single handedly ruined that experience for us. If you are looking to get together with friends and have a good coffee shop experience, avoid this place! read more

Great place with great service! Beautiful spot with a nice setting to relax and take a break or get things done. They provide real pour overs not advertised ones that are just squeezed out of a thermos. They take pride in their coffee bean selection. An indie coffee joint taking over the old Peet's space in the FiDi. Feels pretty sparse with a limited coffee menu and small pastry case. But what they are serving is really good! Cold Brew: Very robust coffee, way better than most iced coffee. Tastes good by itself but can stand up to some milk and simple syrup too. A great way to get a refreshing jolt on a warm day. La Pastora Tarrazú Pour Over: Feels a lot like the Blue Bottle experience. A small cup of coffee meticulously hand brewed to order over a good bit of time. The result is a very complex cup of coffee that you're almost hesitant to pollute with cream and sugar. But my middle ground approach is to take a few mindful sips to appreciate it as is, then put in my typical cream & sugar fixings so I can sip it smoothly at my desk. Crumble Cookie: This was unique. Fruit jam in the middle with buttery crumbles around it. It was like someone served you just the top of the crumb cake, without the soft cakey bit underneath. I was a fan, since it went great with coffee. Cherry Danish: Wasn't a fan. The pastry surrounding the filling felt damp and day-old. Almost like those Costco frozen danishes you'd defrost the night before. The filling was yummy, with lots of cherry and lots of sticky glaze. Ahh! What a laid back vibe! Just thought I can settle down in Coffee Bodega after buying a cup of Joe. But since the friendly male owner tell me all the machines are brewing for hours, perhaps I have to come back this afternoon when it's ready. So here we go. Now that it's ready, I think having ice cold green tea lemonade, with a sustainable delicate straw. Despite how local and organically sourced the Farm-to-Table coffee beans are, I'm still not a fan of coffee due to the jittery aftermath. For coffee lovers who like Central to South American coffee beans, Coffee Bodega is one place you ought to try. With one sip, it'll have you come back another day or two. read more

Loved everything about this place! The salted maple latte was one of the best lattes I've vet had. I don't like syrups and lots of sugar so I usually stay away from lattes but couldn't resist trying this because it's made with real maple and not artificial syrups. Clean, if cramped seating area--and I think being to close to Embarcadero Bart and the Cable Car probably drives a good bit of traffic to this handy location. Barista was competent, coffee was a little bitter. I went in the early afternoon and it was quite quiet--I'll try again when it's busy. read more

This is one of the best coffee places I have been to in Fidi - they offer farm to table coffee with standard options as well as specialty drinks. The drink I got was the Honey Cinnamon Latte. When I first got it I was concerned it would taste too sweet, but it was well balanced and I could taste the bitterness of the coffee along with the sweetness of the honey. It was fantastic because it wasn't sickeningly sweet which I've found to be a common problem with other sweet lattes at other coffee shops. The service was fantastic, the staff were super friendly, and the place itself has a cozy but modern feel to it. Definitely recommend stopping by this place and getting one of their speciality drinks. The next time I go I'm going to pick up the Salted Maple latte for sure. They operate out of a window of Jaxson, a country bar, and only had outdoor seating available. Mixed service; there's one guy in the outdoor seating area offering coffee samples and is super nice, then there's the cashier. I asked if they did a vanilla iced latte and he was brisk about not doing that type of coffees, but did offer to add simple syrup to make it sweeter. I ordered the iced latte which was half ice, but strong in the amount of caffeine for the amount of liquid. I think their hot coffees are better than their iced coffees, mainly because they don't do artificially sweet drinks (which are my weakness!) It's a pretty small space and they don't do much branding either. Would say that if you're in the area do give them a try, but they are easy to miss. read more

Beautiful space, amazing coffee, fine service. The interior has lots of chairs and different little setups with larger and smaller tables. Easy to access wifi. Very nice difference from a lot of other coffeeshops in downtown SF that discourage sitting. I'm fine with $5-7 for a pourover so long as the coffee is quality and the space is good. And it's really good! Delicious and just as good as any other solid pour-over spot in town, with some unique information about the sourcing. Very glad that they do have signs asking people not to spend forever on loud work calls here. Maybe they could turn down the music otherwise though a bit. Service isn't going to be instant with pourovers, so do expect a bit of a wait, but there weren't a lot of people in line so it went fast. read more

I love everything about Coffee Bodega, from their ethically sourced amazing coffee and knowledgable, welcoming baristas to the relaxing atmosphere (love all the plants!). I first stopped in a year ago, drawn in by their fun sandwich board marketing sign with beautiful photography from the coffee fields promoting "Pure Latin American Dope" and the disclaimer "Not actually dope. Just great coffee. So good, it doesn't need sugar". The owner was friendly and took the time to discuss the business and the origins of the coffee. Every drink I've had there has been amazing and unique, unlike so many cookie cutter coffee shops. Ariana at the Fremont Street location was especially personable and a pleasure to interact with at my last visit. read more

One Friday, I decided to grab some coffee from this new coffee place in Marina/Cow Hollow I'd seen mentioned on Nextdoor. They touted farm-to-table specialty coffee grown, roasted, and packed by small farmers cooperatives in their natural Costa Rican environments--my interest was piqued! Did you know less than 0.1% of coffee trade in the world is roasted in the country where it was grown, and for no good reason? To my chagrin, one of the owners, the younger Carlos, told me he'd closed the register for the day. They must have seen how sad I looked, because they gave me some cold brew anyways, which was what I'd been planning on ordering anyways! That he gave me a cold brew after the register was closed for the day does tell you something not about their business model, but about their business, their values, goals, and the community they are cultivating. Carlos said to write a review in return, and I bit my lip--writing reviews is what I do, but he didn't need to know that at the time ;) My cold brew was delicious, rich, smooth, and refreshing (especially since I'd run a few blocks to get there!) That their coffee is sustainable and that they work with small farms is just an added, generous, socially-responsible "pro" that should be the norm for more businesses (especially the big ones which have the means to do so, but I digress.) Their parklet is clean, cute, and welcoming, begging to be sat in. I love the trees, lights, and small tables! I'll be back (quite a few minutes earlier than the closing time to be safe) to try their pourover and cappuccino, and I will bring my laptop and a book. We stopped by Coffee Bodega to try both of the pour overs, and the tl;dr is they're both rich, clean and delicious. On the mega-plus side: coffee is top-quality; customer service (by the owner) is friendly and attentive; space is large, welcoming, and comfortable if you're going to stay and enjoy your brew or pastry; Bodega is right near an Embarcadero Muni/BART. On the could-be-better-but-likely-can't-be-helped side: I believe the pour overs were $6 and $7 respectively, so more of a treat for most of us; our pour overs took several minutes (maybe 10?) because the owner/barrista was alone and working on everyone's orders, and there were a couple customers who kept trying to engage him in long conversations ‍. I mean, he's nice, makes great coffee AND is the owner - it's going to happen. Overall, you want to give this place a try if you demand better coffee - the pour over is so tasty you don't need milk or sugar! We will be back. read more

Stumbled upon this gem while in the financial district working. I heard about their amazing empanadas from a client and I couldn't resist... so I tried them.. Walked in after seeing some signs on the street. Clean store with really friendly owner! He explained to us that they recently moved locations from the Marina and he sources his beans directly from Costa Rica, where the farmers there grow and harvest. Simple, no frills menu. Great place, I definitely recommend it. I happened to walk by today and met Carlos at the new location near Market Street (off of Fremont, where Cabra used to be). It's been open for about a week. Carlos is a warm person who greeted me as soon as I walked in. We had a nice chat while he made me a pour-over coffee, which is VERY good! The space looks nice inside as well.
