I can hear chasing a high from a previous take away order here of the same egg and cheese. Back then it was super gooey and warm and the perfect texture. Sadly it was not replicated this time. An average taste at best, egg was pretty cooked. With a latte and tip this was shy of 20 dollars Service was alright, very friendly staff, however I was rather off put that they stared at the screen as the tip section came on. This cafe was cute! Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was practically empty. I liked the atmosphere as there was a lot of seating and books in the bookshelves. The servers were nice but the pastries on the counter looked a bit old as they looked like they've been there a while. I got a hot chocolate and it came out really quick. However, I lifted up the cup and it felt like the drink was only filled 3/4ths of the way to the top which was disappointing. The hot chocolate was okay; it wasn't too sweet and didn't have anything special about it. I was kind of disappointed as it costed $5.50 which is pretty expensive for a 16 oz drink that was probably only 12 oz as it wasn't filled to the top. Probably won't be back here again. read more

This place has potential but again like many biz here its marred by the homeless peeps camped next to it. The cafe itself is quite homey & comfy with mix of wooden chairs & old leather upholstery bench, relaxing jazz music in the back ground. The latte was good. The barista said its her last day here because of safety concerns. As we spoke one of the homeless berserker was cussing & rampaging up & down the street, yelling at passers by, kicking trash bins & smashing chairs next door...sigh. Moka Coffee looked like a cute neighborhood cafe so I decided to pay it a visit. I ordered a Canadian bacon, egg, and cheese croissant and a cup of green tea. It was a very slow Tuesday morning. There was only one other patron in the cafe drinking coffee. When I got my sandwich, the cheese was stone cold so I went to the counter asking politely if she could heat up the croissant to melt the cheese. (The photo shows the cheese is just cold and hard inside of the croissant.) The cashier was chatting with her colleague, not busy at all. She seemed to be very annoyed with my request. She said she couldn't heat it up and that's just how they serve the sandwich...but she could put it in the microwave for me. It was clear that she didn't want to be bothered so I said don't worried about it. Then, I found out that my croissant doesn't have any Canadian bacon in it. I went back to the counter asking about it. Again, received quite a bit of attitude. The cashier said it's just a cheese and egg croissant. I ordered Canadian bacon, cheese, and egg croissant, paid for that and have the receipt showing that... She then realized her mistake and said she gave my croissant to another patron by accident. Only then, her attitude soften up. But apparently they ran out of Canadian bacon at 8:30am so no Canadian bacon for me. Mistakes happen and supplies run short sometimes. None of those really matter. What stinks is the cashier's attitude. I love visiting neighborhood cafe as I enjoy the friendly human exchange experience. However, I'll not be coming back to Moka Cafe. read more

Came here friday morning before work for breakfast. Inside is a cute coffee shop with lots of small tables. It seems like a good place to get work done. It was decently crowded with a short line when I got there. I noticed a lot of people ordering sandwiches, which came with a salad. Going to the side of the counter to order, I got a vanilla iced latte and canadian bacon, egg, cheese croissant. I also got a cucumber and cream cheese bagel. The drink was ready super fast. Food came shortly after. The baristas were super friendly and provided great service. The coffee was pretty strong. I wished it had a little more vanilla. The croissant was super flaky and was great for breakfast. They were generous in cucumbers and cream cheese for the bagel. Moka is a welcoming coffee shop on polk, and the only of its kind on this stretch of polk for some reason. The cafe has all the classic traits of a homely spot to spend an afternoon at, reading spots, large windows, a wall of ads and brochures, hardworking baristas knowledgeable about their craft, a nice variety of beans, coffee artillery on displays. I did not try the namesake coffee, but opted for an in-house latte, which was served up in a very nice ceramic mug. I sipped through it and failed at getting any work done at the window, instead people-watching on busy polk. read more

My wife and I just moved into the Nob Hill neighborhood at the beginning of May and we have been looking for a new coffee hangout. In my opinion, Moka Coffee and St. Frank's (I will do a review for them shortly) are the best coffee spots on Polk St. Moka Coffee is aptly named, as they have the best Mocha coffee I have had anywhere in California. They have a standard array of other coffee options, all of which have the great standard that you expect of the Bay Area. What really sells Moka Coffee for me is the amazing interior. It goes for a Mediterranean cafe vibe and I think it works beautifully. I am a real sucker for the music and design of the whole place. I would recommend Moka Coffee to anyone looking for a good hangout/date/study Coffee spot. It definitely is a place you want to sit down and savor in (St. Frank's is more of a pick-up and go place). Overall, Moka Coffee is a great place. Would definitely recommend, especially for Nob Hill natives. read more

Decent latte but nothing to write home about. The beans tasted like any modern coffee house. Relatively neutral on the pallete without much acidity, which means they were roasted in a good window of time. I personally wouldn't go back but they have soy milk as an option so I'll give it an extra star for that. read more
