I believe they're now a permanent fixture in this wine bar during the day. Someone in the Sunset wanted to meet up and suggested Better Half. It was kismet that he picked a place near me! It's a great location, very walkable. I loved my Iced non-dairy latte with ispahan syrup. Ispahan blends rose, lychee, and raspberry--it's a unique (and great) floral flavor that I haven't seen at a cafe before! Service was nice. Clientele was diverse. There were some older people chatting and an older man reading a physical paper outside. There were also some tourists! I wonder if they came from the nearby cable car line. I will be back!

Instead of just pointing us in the right direction, the person working gave us attitude about it. We apologized and explained that we thought we were supposed to stand where we were, and he responded with something along the lines of, "Well, the cashier is here, so you should be standing here." Just a weirdly hostile interaction over a very normal mistake. Then I ordered my coffee and asked for vanilla. He told me they didn't have any, so I said no problem and asked if they had another sweetener. His response was, "No, we don't. I don't do that here." I said, "Oh, okay, interesting," and he responded, "Yeah, that's why there are other coffee shops. You don't have to come here if you don't want to." I also asked for 2% milk, and again got a very curt "I don't do 2% milk," instead of just telling me what they did have. I happily switched to oat milk -- none of my requests were a big deal to me, and I wasn't upset that they didn't have what I originally asked for. It was entirely the attitude. Not sure why every interaction needed to come with so much sass, especially when we were being perfectly polite. Coffee was fine, but the service made the whole experience uncomfortable. Definitely won't be back, and if you're expecting friendly or welcoming service, I'd go somewhere else.

Where else can I get an old fashioned-inspired coffee drink? It came with bitters and an orange peel to top. It was anything but good. The drink itself just looked like iced black coffee with a small orange slice (see pic). It also tasted just like black coffee accented with bitters and notes of cherry, which made it not good at all. Unless this is a popular drink, SPRO may want to consider removing this from their menu. Although my first visit didn't end with a coffee I enjoyed, there are a lot of other options on the menu I'd be interested in coming back to try.

The banana latte (I got mine with oat milk) has real banana squashed at the bottom with a drizzle of caramel sauce for sweetness. The drink required a fair amount of mixing to homogenize and the banana was more chunky than I like. Nonetheless, the sweetness of the banana + caramel paired wonderfully with the smooth, rich coffee. I appreciate that the coffee tasted like a darker roast, I don't think a more sour profile would have worked with the banana and caramel. The drink was pricy but what isn't pricy in SF? I think it can definitely be replicated pretty easily at home. Kudos to Upfordayz for making a banana drink that even I like!! I felt rushed, and when I asked about the pastries, all the one person that ordered it was: "this is what we have." I'm asking you to specify the pastries because... I GENUINELY don't know what they are? Like we're not experts at pastries compared to baristas that know their stuff -- let alone some random customer like me who doesn't know the name of EVERY pastry. Eventually, after that, I ordered the croissant and a cortado, and both tasted wonderful. The croissant was flaky and very buttery, and the cortado was a great combination to it as well. Ambiance isn't too bad -- there's small tables, but also, very spacious seating on the window side of the seating where there's a bar and more.
