Wow! Fantastic Peruvian chicken bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection; every bite was juicy and had a smoky flavor to it that was savory but not overpowering. The half chicken platter was probably the best meal I've had at a restaurant in a while, and the spices were on point, as were the french fries and the refreshing coleslaw. The horchata was creamy, smooth, and sweet as well. I walked out of this place full and content with the meal I'd just had and it even got me sleepy from how filling it was. I was happily graced by the smoky aroma coming from the kitchen on the way to my car. I ate here with a friend of mine for the first time yesterday after seeing the restaurant many times before driving through the area. We finally tried Cocorico after passing by it all the time. A no fuss or frill type of place. It's definitely the best chicken place in the Springfield area if you don't count Nando's. We got the family special #1 that comes with a whole chicken, two sides, and 2 drinks. The chicken was flavorful (esp. the skin part) and the sides are better than I expected. The yucca was crispy but not tough as a rock like other places. The plantains were good too. All this for less than $20 bucks and they deliver too! read more

This is a small place close to the new Springfield town center. I got my food to go and it was ready when they said it would be so no complaints there. I had heard that it got best Peruvian chicken in the area so of course I had to check it out. I got a whole chicken and this came with 2 sides as well. I chose the rice and fried yuca. I thought it was hilarious because they gave me a little container of rice and a HUGE box of yuca. I'm pretty sure they were supposed to be the same size, but im not complaining cause I love a good fried yuca. Anyways the main event: the chicken. Plump, juicy, well seasoned and lovely crispy skin parts. I love that they give an ample amount of sauce as well (white sauce and spicy green sauce). Overall a great experience with bargain prices. I'm not 100% sure if it really is the best Peruvian chicken in the area. I would have to try all the other places. I would say this place is worth it though! read more

I was in the mood for more Peruvian food after trying some a few weeks earlier. I had never paid attention to this "hidden in plain sight" restaurant near the mall, but I'm happy I tried it out. When I arrived on a Sunday afternoon, it was bustling with folks. I ordered the Lomo Saltado to go and waited about fifteen minutes for it to arrive. The lady I ordered from informed me that the dish would take about that long when I ordered, which I'm glad she had the foresight to tell me. The Lomo Saltado was great, and I'd like to see how different restaurants prepare it. The onions and vegetables melded well with the beef and the fries. I have been here a few times now and I like it! I usually get the quarter chicken with two sides. The chicken is delicious, it has a great smoky flavor. The salad side is pretty boring, just iceberg lettuce, and the beans are not super flavorful. The plantains and the yucca fries on the other hand are delicious! That's what you should get on the side! I've gotten the half chicken before which is enough for two meals - you can't beat that for only about $10! read more

Really delicious food is being served here, I got lomo saltado chicken and an order of pupusas, both of these items were served up hot and fresh, the only drawback that I can see with this place is that you have to pay extra for additional green sauce, which as you may or may not know is fairly obligatory when eating Peruvian food, but the food was wonderful,will go again and try other items on their menu!! read more

I get dinner from Cocorico at least once a month for our family of 6. Family meal #2 is a great option for us, as we have 4 young kiddos. Chicken is always warm, savory, seasoned well, and moist. The sides are tasty and healthy. While the side dishes could be a bit larger, the truth is the kids just want the chicken and fries anyway. So the veggies are enough for me. The new location on commerce is large, clean, and has better access now than before. Friendly staff, ready-to-eat empanadas, and a cooler displaying tres leches and rice pudding greet you at the counter. I fed our family of 6 for under $45, and only waited about 10 minutes for hot fresh food. Highly recommend! read more

If dining in, they will bring out your food for you. Huge easy to read menu. Half chicken dark meat: Comes with 2 sides, and we ordered yuca fries with salad. The meat has a wonderful charcoal flavor and is quite juicy, some of the best flavor I've had in the area. The yuca fries were tasty, not the best I've had but still delicious. Dish comes with several cups of dip, including the spicy green aji sauce served at every Peruvian chicken place around. Price is VERY competitive and I like how they charge less for dark meat - it's actually my favorite so for me it's a plus! I'm definitely coming back here again. read more

The food here is pretty good... can't really go wrong with pollo a la brasa. However this place literally gives THE smallest amount of rice ever . I usually get a quarter chicken dark and rice and salad ... any other place that's similar to this I have a hard time finishing all the rice.... but this place... I finish and I'm still hungry . Today I ordered a bowl and it was literally filled with iceberg lettuce and a half of a half a scoop of rice. I was fishing in my bowl for rice bc the lettuce made the whole thing watery. I understand trying to cut costs and not over feeding, however another scoop of rice with the meals would be sufficient- especially since I'm being charged for everything extra - including sauces. read more

The chicken was extremely moist and the portions were a good size for my appetite. I am sure others would probably prefer the half chicken, but the 1/4 was fine for me. The chicken was served with a yellow and green sauce of which I much preferred the green. Still, something was missing. I felt like some good american hot sauce would have been nice but overall it was a good value and pretty good food. The restaurant is fast casual with self seating and pickup. This place is amazing and needs to be featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I had the papa huancana which is a Peruvian cold potato dish with yellow pepper sauce and eggs. What a unique taste! I also had the cheese pupusas. Excellent! Their slaw was the best I have ever had! My dining companion had the lomo Saltado and loved it! I would call this place a Latin/Middle Eastern and other joint because their offerings are vast. We will definitely be going back to try other dishes such as the arroz chaufa which is a Chinese/Latin fried rice dish! Service was top notch. Decor- It's a fairly new place so it was decent. There was a leak in the ceiling when I went there but, that didn't stop me and my party from staying. Food- Got the 1/4 white meat chicken which was more on the dry side than I would have preferred but the jalapeo sauce made up for it- it was really spicy! The seasoning was a bit on the salty side also but, again, the jalapeo sauce and the dressing did just the trick to make it better. The rice was pretty good, not too greasy with a just a hint of garlic. The yuca was alright, but then again, it's just yuca...how can you mess it up? French fries was also a side order that I didn't get to try but, the table right next to us just totally massacred their order. There was this guy right next to us too that ordered 1 whole chicken for himself (whoa!)!!! Prices- excellent-$4.95 for 1/4 chicken and $1 extra for white meat comes with sides. Extra star for the variety of bottled drinks, the hummus, babaganous, and tabbouleh..very different from the typical Peruvian pollo place. read more

I've never had Peruvian chicken before trying this place and thought it was pretty good. The chicken had lots of citrus and herb flavors and the meat was pretty tender. I wasn't really into the white sauce (tasted like diluted mayo with a bit of lemon) but the green spicy sauce nicely complemented the chicken. The beans were ok, the rice was not that great. I would basically just eat the chicken. After Coco Rico, we tried what I thought was another peruvian chicken place called Edy's but the chicken there wasn't as flavorful (like regular rotisserie chicken, so how is this peruvian?), and it was kind of cold & dry when served. I need to do more research on Peruvian chicken. read more

Have had a couple times when a side is forgotten for carry out. Upon calling the restaurant they aren't able (or willing) to refund the difference so only options are to either go back to restraint or to get a credit next time you go back which obviously doesn't work for non-repeat visitors. Unsure why a purchase can't be refunded the specific amount... Overall recommend, just check your order before you leave if carrying out. read more

This is a small, bright, straightforward place with very good food. The menu has a range of Peruvian food, but also a few Middle Eastern items; also, from the sign on the door, their chicken is halal, which I thought was interesting. The staff is friendly. There's a decent amount of seating; however, the portion sizes for the food are large enough that -- saved possibly by the numerous people who order their food to go -- it might be very crowded here at lunch and dinner as people take their time working their way through heaping plates of goodness. I enjoyed Coco Rico and wanted to give it four stars but the restaurant was filled with an intense chemical smell, almost as if the entire place had been doused in bleach. It was strong enough that I almost walked out immediately after entering, but I was determined to try it. I'm glad I stubbornly stayed for the food, but if the smell is still there the next time I visit - or at least if it's as strong again -- then I don't imagine I'll return a third time. read more
