I usually don't write reviews but i think this time i have to for the safety of others This place is so disgusting i would never recommend anyone to eat there, i ordered a whole chicken that came with fries as a side to go and while eating i found cockroaches in the fries as u can see in the attached picture. Me and my family got sick same night from there . After contacting Fairfax health department and after they have visited the place they confirmed that the place has cockroaches in the back of the kitchen and what caused them to be in food is they sprayed pesticides that made them go crazy and as the inspector confirmed they were active even after the pest service so if u don't get poisoned by the cockroaches probably u get poisoned by the pesticides ...... good luck read more

I just moved here for work from NY. I have family here in Virginia so my go to would usually be Pollo Rico out in Arlington. Which is still in my opinion the best chicken in the area, however cocorico can compete! In terms of location it is basically down the street from me which is a plus when I don't feel like driving out to Arlington. They have plenty of parking. Service was very friendly, and quick as my order was ready within 5 minutes. I ordered 1/4 white chicken with steamed vegetables, and mashed potatoes. (I know I didn't get fries and cole slaw) They have a variety of sides which are very healthy for those who are dieting! The steamed vegetables are well, steamed vegetables, nothing I can say more about that. Their mashed potatoes were made from real potatoes and deliciously seasoned. The chicken was really good. Skin was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I didn't feel like anything was greasy or dripping with fat. The chicken was very tender and juicy. I'm happy I found a great go-to chicken spot close by when I don't want to drive far. I was very happy with my meal and look forward to coming back soon. read more

We went to the original location and they had shut down. I typed in Peruvian Chicken near me and found they had moved up to Commerce Street. The new place is much larger then the original. I ordered a 1/4 dark with Yucca and black beans. The serving size seemed a bit smaller then it used to be but that sadly is a sign of the times now. Just glad they weathered the storm and are still in business. The chicken was very good, lots of meat, decent spices. The Yucca was done great, nice golden brown. The beans could have used some help, pretty bland. Another thing I noticed is they are stingy with the sauce, you only get two small ones and have to ask for more, shame. Let me start with saying that I'm Peruvian and grew up in Lima eating our delicious food, and I also make it at home. With that said, I tried the Pollo a la brasa and Lomo saltado from this location and it's not good. The jalapeño sauce was good, so was the mayo but the chicken was not only dry, the flavor just wasn't there. Clean place with good choice of food. Chicken was delicious, highly recommend it for chicken. Do not get steamed veggies or salad. The veggies are frozen that may be steamed in the microwave. The salad wasn't bad but covered with Ranch dressing. Might as well get something good like the rice and beans or other sides that were fresh and delicious looking. Nice employees. Do you know the episode of Family Guy where Peter Griffin has an epic smack down with a person in a chicken costume? I believe that chicken lives at Coco Rico. Their chicken mascot is the most bad ass, mean mugging chicken you will ever experience in your lifetime. Once I had a friend point at the chicken and laugh during a random intersection stop and the chicken made an "I will cut you" motion to him. NO LIE. Don't mess with this chicken! As far as food goes, Coco Rico gets a participation medal for competing in the Peruvian Chicken Olympics. Their chicken is seasoned well (albeit on the dry side) but it is nothing compared to the gold standards such as El Pollo Rico or Super Chicken. If the mascot does not off you before entering, this is a fine place to get your chicken fix if you are in the Springfield area. read more

My co-workers and I came here for some lunch that was treated by the admin. I have a favorite Peruvian chicken place, but I thought that this place was pretty good, too. Cocorico is located off of Franconia Rd in Springfield. The place itlself was hustling and bustling with people during the lunch hour. Their menu was very simple and straightforward - 1/4 Chicken (2 sides, 2 sauces), 1/2 Chicken (2 sides, 4 sauces) or a Whole Chicken (that came with 2 sides and 6 sauces) in terms of Peruvian Chicken. They also have combo meals with comes with a can of soda, as well as entree specials (lomo saltado, pollo saltaldo, arroz chaufa), sandwiches (fish sandwich, steak & cheese, chicken burrito, quesadillas, etc.), burrito bowls, and kids meals. Sides selection include: salad, french fries, yuca, rice, beans, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, plantains, tortillas, and garlic; they have have 'specialty sides' which are hummus, baba ghannouj, and toubleh. I had the 1/4 Chicken combo meal which came with 2 sides and 2 sauces and a can of soda. The chicken itself was very juicy, and I liked the seasoning on the skin (my favorite part, as always) - the yellow amarillo sauce was thick and creamy, and had a nice little tang to it. This is the best peruvian style chicken in all of Northern Virginia. I've eaten at over 20 different places in the area and this one is above ALL of them, nobody in their tier. I tell people this all the time and since they didn't read an article about it or because their sorority friends don't go there (Pollo Rico, delicious but not as good as Coco Rico) they won't even give it a try. So why is this tiny strange looking place under an overpass so good? The first thing is the way they marinate or season the chicken. Its the best there is. It has some kind of influence that the other area places don't have (I don't know specifically what country it is but its not south or central american). They took something delicious, added their own slight twist, and created the ultimate rotisserie chicken. If you don't like spiced delicious skin then hit up somewhere else. I would eat the skin if they sold it. They also cook the chicken so amazingly 99% of the time that the meat literally peels off the bone and into your mouth. The chicken is quality, looks good, tastes great. The second thing is the consistency. I say this because every since I started eating at rotisserie chicken places I've noticed that one day its great and another day they give you an uncooked chicken that tastes like rubber (Boston Market is the best at this). Coco Rico is on point consistently. Out of the 40 times I've been there over several years I've had 2 bad experiences. The third thing is that they are the best kept secret in CHEESESTEAKS. Get one of these, throw on the spicy green sauce (did I mention this is another great point about this place. It may not be the best sauce out of all the places but it is still 5 stars) and you will be shocked. Its a non traditional cheesesteak and a nice varied change that almost makes you feel like you are eating some new specialty meal. The cost is a little high. Getting a half chicken is almost the same price as getting quarter white so I always go half with an inca cola bottle. Runs me $12. I don't even work or live near Springfield anymore so anytime I go anywhere near the mixing bowl I make sure to stop there. That is the goto spot probably in a 5-10 mile radius (before you hit Vienna Inn in Vienna). If I moved to California and came back to visit DC or VA I would make it a requirement to stop at Coco Rico. I just hope that they don't change anything because they are doing it all right. read more

On a Friday night, around 7p, I was in Alexandria, I was hungry and wanted an inexpensive filling meal. So I opened up my trusty Yelp app and searched for restaurants in the area. Cocorico came up and I was intrigued. Hadn't had any Peruvian chicken in a minute so decided to check this place out. The restaurant is located on the corner of a busy intersection so depending on the time of day, it may be a little difficult to get to depending on which direction you are coming from. The inside of the restaurant is a nice size. I don't think you would have a hard time finding a seat if you decided to dine in and it was very clean. Always a plus in my book. Service was pretty good. Staff were polite and service was pretty fast. Now the food... I found it to just be ok. I ordered the 1/4 chicken white meat with two sides, rice and beans. The chicken was good and flavorful. So was the rice. But those beans... man... that is the reason I had to give 3 stars. They lacked so much flavor. I have been to a few different restaurants with similar menus and one thing that made them stand out to me, aside from the chicken, were their sides. Sad to say that this restaurant disappointed my taste buds... sigh... maybe it was an unlucky night for me because the portion sizes where also pretty small compared to what I am use to. So will I go back? Probably not... What is my recommendation to you? Hmmmmm, if you are really hungry and have your stomach set on some great Peruvian chicken with great sides, then this may not necessarily be the spot for you. read more

Finally tried this place today. The menu is limited, despite the signs posted on all the walls. I asked if they had fried rice (which was clearly posted on the wall) and she said no, just white rice. So I asked what came with the white rice....she said steamed vegetables. Being the fatty foodie that I am, I got turned off a bit that the options for sides were underwhelming. I ordered my pitiful little quarter chicken and white rice with black beans. It was ok. I mean, if you work nearby and looking for a quick, cheap lunch, I suppose it will do. But, when there are peruvian chicken spots on every block from here to woodbridge, you can do yourself a favor and hit up Su Pollo on Rte 1 or the King Pollo in Woodbridge. My dad really wanted us to love this place... I don't think we'll ever be back. It's Halal Peruvian Chicken with a lot of other things on the menu. In my opinion, the menu is all over the place! Coco Rico's specialty is the chicken and the chicken itself is good. The spices used are nice and flavorful. The chicken was cooked thoroughly and was still juicy. To give an idea of the all-over-the-place menu: in addition to the traditional they offer American food (cheese steak) as well as Middle Eastern (Falafel and Hummos). So that's three different types of food at one restaurant. I usually expect this from a diner, not a Peruvian Chicken place.... Anyway... I was pretty miffed when I had to pay for water. Isn't it common courtesy to provide water free of cost? There is a law for this, I am sure! My dad ended up buying four bottles for $1.25 each.. Pretty lame because I might as well asked for a soft drink. We ordered the Family Combo: Two whole chickens, six sides, and 12 sauces. The chicken came quartered. Again, it was very juicy so it was very easy to cut and eat. The sides ordered were Fries (2), red beans, mashed potatoes, rice, and plantains. BP also ordered a side of tortillas. I was really disappointed with the rice. For starters, it was white rice with literally three peas in the entire side dish. I was expecting yellow rice and have it be spiced, but nope, just got plain-old, goopy white rice. It was flavorless. Next, the mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a pouch as a powdered mix. They were unbelievably salty. Inedible. The red beans definitely came out from a can...and they were watered down. I don't think I have ever been a fan of plantains so of course I did not like them here. They were too sweet. BP, however, enjoyed them. The fries were good, but dull. We didn't ask for them to be unsalted, but they were. I would have liked them to be spiced. The tortillas were very small. Four inches, maybe? They were made of corn meal and very authentic, but because I am fairly certain they were frozen and then re-heated, they were very soggy. I think Coco Rico needs to stop doing things the easy way because it is tasteless. They need to be more passionate so more customers can come and enjoy their chicken. read more

I've dined in at Cocorico before, but I predominantly order delivery off UberEats because I'm lazy af. I'm giving Cocorico 3 stars because while I find their chicken to be on point, their sides are on the mediocre side and chicken ain't chicken without the sides! Usually, my go-to order is the Family Special #1, which comes with 1 whole chicken, 2 sides of your choice, 8 sauces, and 2 drinks. All of that food for under $20? Sign me up! As I said, I usually order my food to-go or get it delivered. Ordered delivery through ubereats, food came rather quick so i was suspicious of how fresh it would be. While it wasn't piping hot, the whole chicken was very flavorful by itself. Not dry, the dark meat was falling off the bone. Now when you introduce either sauce options, mild or spicy, thats when the meal really took off. The mild (yellow) sauce is incredible, like a spicy mustard with something else in it. For sides, I ordered coleslaw and plantains . Coleslaw was a little sweet (keto/lowcarb beware), but the plantains were top notch (according to my friend who had them). This chicken was delicious. read more

I like Coco Rico - I wish they had better reviews. I ordered 1/2 chicken with rice & yucca. I will say, most of the reviews advise you to order double rice - do it. I didn't really like the yucca much, but the rice was so good, and they aren't super stingy with their sauces. I believe the 1/2 chicken comes with 2 of each sauce. They also have combos that come with a drink, but I ordered the entrée only. They have a variety of foods, not just rotisserie chicken. My vegetarian friend ordered cheese quesadilla and she ate it all. The prices are also pretty good. Next time I'm camping out at my friend's house in Kingstowne, I will find myself here for more food. Love it. read more

I love coco rico. They have gotten better over the years. Recently we places a huge order for a family gathering. Everyone was pleased. I wad only upset that my pupusas were revueltas instead of just cheese. But they were still bomb! They cook the yuca and fries pretty perfectly! Have tasty flan, arroz con leche is so on point! The alfajors have too much cookie but are yummy. The empanadas are good, a bit different but the cheese was tastier than the chicken. Chicken is dope. Everyone is a fan, they cook it perfectly, and love their versions of the sauces. Also the quesadillas are some of the best. Simple but so good. Lomo saltado may not be peruvian but they do a great job, would reccomend them. Also their falafel is secretly DELICIOUS. read more

Cocorico has become my go-to spot for chicken in my area. I have tried Cocorico both via Grubhub and dining in and the consistency of the chicken always matches up. Just recently Alexis and I stopped by on a weeknight around 7 PM and the restaurant was 75% occupied which is always a good sign. We typically opt for the family meal at Cocorico as it's the best bang for your buck. With that being said, we opted for the family meal once again which consists of 1 whole chicken, two sides and two soda cans coming in at around $20 after taxes. I am personally a huge fan of their chicken. The sides we have tried aren't the best but they get the job done. The chicken is moist and seasoned well every time. Their yellow/green sauces are decent but definitely isn't the best I have had as it seems a bit watered down compared to other chicken spots. The rice served here comes mixed in with some vegetables (most likely the frozen mixed peas, corns, carrots bag you find at grocery stores). The rice isn't very tasty and doesn't have a unique flavor but it gets the job done if you're looking to eat some rice. Unfortunately the beans are a bit too watery which results in the lack of a distinguishable taste. Overall I enjoy the chicken here but wished their sides were a bit better. Perhaps I will try different sides next time I stop by with the hope that they are slightly better then the ones I normally opt for. If you live in the Springfield area, this is probably the best choice you have for chicken. read more

The food is very, very good. I have not been disappointed yet. The saltado rocks. However, it can take a while to get your food, and pretty much the only thing you will ever, ever see playing on their TVs there is soccer or Spanish-language soap operas. The prices are generally okay, but a bit high for some of the items where the portions are small. One tip: if you get the ceviche, order ahead so it has time to marinate before you eat it. First time order from here (bitesquad) got a whole chicken with salad and beans. The chicken was DRY as hell. Probably one of the dryest I have ever had. This thing was cooked a looong while before I got it. The wings were hard a rock and the legs not much better. The salad (side) was TINY and they put the dressing IN THE SALAD CONTAINER in with the salad. Imagin going to eat the salad and there is a PLASTIC container buried in there WITH THE SALAD WTF! The beans were OK, no complaints there. I had to discard a pretty good part of this chicken as it was too hard/dry to eat. This is sad because other (bitesquad) competition costs a few bucks more and who does not want to save a few bucks?. I got a half a chicken with two sides for $8.99, with a large Inca Kola and tax it was $11.38, and this was plenty of food for a hungry man.
