I came in here yesterday for lunch. I had never had Bolivian food before, so I had to try it. I have had Mexican, Cuban, and Salvadoran, but never anything South American. I got the pique meal and a couple of sodas. The meal was served with llajua ( spicy Bolivian sauce, https://boliviancookbook.com/sauces/llajua-spicy-bolivian-salsa/) as an appetizer. The pique had roast steak, chopped beef hot dogs, hard-boiled eggs, red and green peppers, tomatoes, onions, and green chilies served over french fries. The serving size was very large, so I took it home and had the other half for dinner. All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and reasonably quick. The meal was brought out in about 15 minutes. The decor was interesting with Bolivian folk themes. There were about 20 or 30 people in the restaurant, which is a good sign. They seemed to be a regular crowd. The total came to about $30.00. No complaints. Keep up the good work. I found the receipt and updated the review. The pique was $19.95, the Refresco de Sangria soda was $3.50, and the fruit juice was $3.75, for a total of $27.20. There was a sales tax of 6% ($1.63), and a Fairfax County food and beverage tax of 4% ($1.09). There was a 15% service fee that I do not recall being disclosed ($4.08). The total was $34.00; I left a $6.00 tip. A $27.20 meal thus became a $40.00 meal. Are you serious? This is 25% in fees and taxes before the tip is even left. If you include a 20% tip, that would be 45% in fees, taxes, and tips on top of the cost of the meal. The restaurant should charge the full price instead of adding on a 15% non-optional fee. Fairfax County should know better than to charge a tax which can and does hurt restaurant sales. read more

First time at this restaurant. We're Bolivian and love trying the different restaurants in the area. We walked in, weren't greeted. Disappointed with service, I walked and requested peanut and pork soup advertised on the window outside the establishment by front door, I was told they don't have soup and it's only on weekends......Ohhhhk ....probably should advertise that! But hey I'm just the customer wanting the food.... I went there to pick up a few saltenas for lunch! They were delicious! I got chicken and beef ones. These were full! Not half filled...very nice! There was only 1 lady helping customers. She was very nice and did they best she could to help everyone. She could use a hand. There was a sign outside indicating a new owner was taking over. We love El Sabor Boliviano. We often order api con pasteles for breakfast, and will also come here for lunch/dinner and order the silpancho. Recently we came here for a quick lunch, we had saltenas. The food is delicious and comes out quickly. Service could improve - staff are friendly but not very attentive. The environment is basic and needs some more decorative improvements. read more

We had been coming here for at least 10 years. There used to be a a mom and daughter team that provided exceptional and friendly service. After they left, this place went downhill fast. Service had always been slow and only a few select menu items were very good but most were just meh. About 3 years ago, we moved 45 minutes away but still visited from time to time for those few specific menu items. Today was my wife's birthday and she was craving the "charque" so we drove 45 minutes to the restaurant. I ordered the food and asked for a side of fava beans "haba" and was told that wasn't possible. I said I had no problem in paying for it because that's what my wife wanted. Again, the server told me the fava beans came only with the Lapping entree and the only way to get them was to pay for the full entree. Of course, that's ridiculous because I didn't want that item. I only wanted a side of fava beans and had no issue in paying $5, $7, $10 for it. When I again questioned why I couldn't just pay for it if they had it, the server said she didn't know. She said it was the owner's policy and probably because there was a "limited quantity". Then buy more so you can sell more or has anyone else heard of the great fava bean shortage of 2023? LOL! Needless to say I didn't buy anything, walked out, and went to a much better Bolivian restaurant, albeit 30 minutes farther but very well worth it. Save your time, money, and the hassle with trying to get decent food or service out of this place. Apparently new ownership took over recently. I can't possibly see this place lasting much longer with the existing sub-standard practices. Thought I might mention that I went there at 7:30pm on a Friday and there was a single table with 2 people in the entire place. That itself tells you all you need to know. read more

I absolutely love the food at this place! It doesn't seem very well known to anyone but the Bolivian/Hispanic community but their food is delicious. We always get their half/quarter chicken meal, and the grilled chicken sandwich meal. They have the best yucca I have ever had! The rotisserie chicken is (in my opinion) better than Pollo Rico (I know Pollo Rico is Peruvian and not Bolivian, but I'm talking rotisserie chicken in general) The chicken is perfectly seasoned. It's moist, tender, and falls of the bone. Mouthwatering! Fries are great and rice is perfect as well! The yellow sauce has a little tiny kick to it which I love! They recently bought the place next to them and renovated, making a huge dining space with plenty of room, and there's always a game or something entertaining on. They have lunch specials every day which is great! The only issue is not everyone working there speaks English, so when you call in or go in, make sure to ask whoever is at the counter to get someone who can speak English, just so your order doesn't get botched. I've had that happen only once before, but usually they're very good at figuring out what you would like to order. They also don't have a website, so I took the liberty of getting some pictures of their extensive menu. Try this place out!! I'd love to see it get more business because I would hate to have to go all the way to Arlington for some good Spanish chicken and rice. read more

This review is only based on the salteñas and rotisserie chicken, I have not tried the other dishes on the menu. I normally get my salteñas at Bakery, Bread and Grill in Jermantown ( highly recommend ), but decided to come here since it's closer to my residence. They are not bad, but the chicken is dry. I don't recommend ordering a rotisserie chicken. Just like the salteña, it is dry. In addition, the yucca tastes Bland. However, the plantains were prepared well today. Overall, the food was slightly below average. Not bad, but definitely subpar compared to other places in Northern Virginia. read more

I would give it 0 stars. Horrible service. There was only one cashier and one cook. The cashier was very rude. I asked her (in English) how much is for pique macho, the menu doesn't state the price. She rolled her eyes at me and told my friend the price in Spanish. Well okay, if you don't understand me then just tell me. We end up getting saltenas instead. I took one bite and it was disgusting. Worst saltenas ever. It felt like they kept it in the fridge and didn't bother heating it up. We were finished. We waited for her to take the dishes and give us our bill, but she was too busy flirting with two guys. To grab her attention, we walked to the cash register and waited for her. Ordered two saltenas and they seemed a little overpriced at $2.50, but they were good. Also ordered two Silpanchos ($10) and they were good but beware ... they did not come with french fries but rather boiled potatoes that were sliced lengh wise and seared. I could see this being a deal breaker for a lot of folks but it worked for me and it certainly was a healthier alternative. You got two eggs which was nice also. The decor of the place is warm and clean, parking is beyond plentiful. I will go back! Not many bolivian places in springfield. read more

YELP said that the restaurant opens at 8:00 a.m. on Mondays through Fridays. No, it opens at 9:00 a.m. weekdays (8:00 on Saturdays and Sundays). So, no salteñas to snack on. I walked through the door and the first thing I did was step on ice. I sat down with my family and we had Saltenas and Silpanchos. The Saltena's were not sweet enough and the beef wasn't fine enough and the olives had seeds (beware). The Silpancho was disappointing because while the steak was thin slice, it had no flavor and was breaded poorly with no crisp edges. I pay 13 dollars in any other restaurant for the same dish but it's of much higher quality. We took our food to go and for the entirety of our time there the ice did not leave the front door.
