The reservation fee is $25 per person. Keep in mind that this is not simply a reservation deposit like most places. You are actually paying $25 and in exchange you get a boarding pass, a welcome cocktail, a set of wings (this is a really nice quality pin, not the cheesy plastic wings they give the kids on Southwest), spicy nuts, and a sweet treat. When you arrive, you pick up your "boarding pass" at Wren and Wolf around the corner. This flight was going to Tokyo. There is a red-rope line that you wait in until your "flight" boards. At your reservation time, the "Captain" opens the door and a "flight attendant" takes you to your seat. Actually, they call them stewardesses because it's supposed to be 70's themed. The inside is kind of amazing. It's airline themed without being too literal. We have visited another airline themed cocktail lounge in Palm springs which literally had real airline seats. This is not that. It has a lot of beautiful shiny wood and great lighting and it's just generally a gorgeous space. There is a bar at the back. Throughout your 90-minute experience, there is a captain on the overhead letting you know what will happen next. They start by bringing you a welcome cocktail and a bowl of spicy nuts. Love the nuts, did not like the cocktail at all. I just poured mine into my husband's glass and he finished it. They come around next to take your cocktail order. My husband ordered a melon sour, and I ordered a chocolate martini. I'm sad to say I did not like this cocktail either, although I did finish this one. Hubby thought his was fine. After that round of cocktails the flight attendant and Captain come around with the cart to take Martini orders. It looked like less than half of the people ordered a martini. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, and so the two cocktails we already had were plenty and we did not order martinis. Then the flight attendant comes around with a plate of black and white cookies. They were so good - - they tasted homemade. This was really just fun. While I didn't love the cocktails, I did love the cookies and the spicy nuts and the whole experience and I really recommend it.

They were absolutely right. From the moment the friendly bouncer smiled and said, "Step right on in," I was hooked. Yoooow!! The first DJ was incredible. He was spinning all kinds of trip-hop, indie, electronic, and remix-style tracks that had everybody partyin'. It wasn't your typical dance music, but every song seemed to connect with somebody in the room. The crowd was incredibly diverse, and it was so much fun watching people of every age and style dancing and nobody cared. The second DJ, a younger woman, shifted the vibe a bit and leaned more toward a younger crowd. It wasn't quite my style, so I took that opportunity to grab a seat at the bar and do what I apparently do best... chat with complete strangers. I'm a talker, and thankfully they seemed just as happy to strike up a conversation. This isn't some fancy cocktail lounge, and that's exactly the point. It's authentic. There were people dancing at the bar, grooving in their booths, bouncing in their seats, and filling the dance floor with great energy. I came by myself, and within minutes a cool group of strangers invited me to squeeze into their booth like we'd all come together. That's the kind of place this is. At one point they even offered me a glass of beer from their pitcher. I politely declined (look at me making responsible life choices... sometimes), but then I realized almost everyone had pitchers! So I sauntered over to the bar. I did have to wait a bit; apparently chivalry doesn't extend to letting a woman cut the line, but once I reached the bartender, the service was fast and friendly. Every trip back to the bar was the same. No complaints there. As the night went on, the energy just kept building. Before I knew it, I was on the dance floor sweating, smiling, and dancing with complete strangers.
