We were here for lunch time at downtown Baton Rouge. This place decorations is hip. Have you seen a piano fully decorated with beads. They have one and is representing the local culture. I like the interior design of this restaurant. It is nice and good lighting. We have order the African Peanut Stew, Seared Trout, and Arepa for our entrée. We also has pork cachapas to start. I like the cachapas because it has good sweet corn pancakes below and top with pork on top and drizzle with cheese. The African Peanut Stew is something. We add the top with pork. It has rice, grilled okra and Berbere and top with African peppers. HMy friend love this dish. My dish trout is grilled and lightly seared. It has fried polenta to accompany. Service was a little spotty at first but everything was great otherwise. I got the Lavender Fields Forever as my cocktail and...oh my gosh. It was definitely in the top 3 cocktails I've ever had in my life. I let some of my family try my drink and they loved it so much they ended up abandoning their cocktails and ordering mine as their second drink. It was amazingly balanced and refreshing. I got the fresh catch as my entree and thought it would be more of a curry but still enjoyed it. I do wish the broth was a little more flavorful but that's my only critique, the fish itself was cooked perfectly. We really loved our seating as well. It was really cool to see the final touches being put on the plates before they went out for service. Like a lot of places in Baton Rouge, you can dress up or down to come here. My absolute favorite place in Baton Rouge. I've moved to Tennessee and we miss this place a lot! It was my always lunch spot and date night with my hubby. Incredible meals and ingredients. Cocha is one of those restaurants where I'll try foods that I haven't historically liked, because I trust the chef to work magic. Being a carnivore, I'm always tempted to order the steak or some such item, but the last time I was there I order the Indian fenugreek curry. Holy hell was it delicious ... I mean, soak-up-every-last-morsel-with-the-bread delicious. The wine parings have always been spot-on, and the service is consistently top-notch. Lovely brunch here on a Saturday morning! Came here after visiting the farmer's market (its only a block away). Service (shoutout to our server Keagan!) was excellent and food was pretty perfect. Can't wait to try their dinner offerings! We tried a bunch of things to share: Dutch baby, breakfast bowl, eggs, bacon and a cinnamon roll. Everything was delicious though my favorite bites were the Dutch baby and the eggs (perfectly cooked scrambled eggs!). Food is very high quality but still reasonably priced (unless San Francisco prices have screwed my reality). Space is beautiful and has really cool art featured throughout. Large bar and great lighting. Wasn't very crowded for brunch (we are realizing that downtown BR is quite a destination yet) but I think a reservation for dinner would be a good idea on a weekend. This one is worth going out of your way! The cuisine exquisite, and vegetarians will find plenty of high quality and creative options from which to choose. The staff really enhances the experience. The host spoke so highly of this establishment we asked if he was owner! (He wasn't.) Our server Ronni was an absolute delight. She was subtle, non intrusive and on top of every need. Add to that the ultra charming atmosphere of their outdoor patio and it was a heavenly experience. Absolutely peaceful and relaxing. The Yucca Fries were a great little bite to start the meal. Good texture, good seasoning, and two tasty sauces. Dinner: Seafood Cannolloni Beer: Paradise Park I found this to be slightly difficult to eat. But the flavor and textures were good. Dinner Saturday night at Cocha was awesome. Start with the amazing host co-owner Enrique, follow that with a comfortable and casual design, great service and food that doesn't necessarily rely on South Louisiana ingredients or preparations. There is a grilled Oyster dish that's yummy, a Crawfish pot pie that we did not sample this time and several duck features. The food has a definite South American direction but, uses ingredients more indigenous to great restaurants in Chicago, San Francisco or Charleston. Cocha is fun and it's casual but, a place fit for foodies. Prices are a value and the wine list is way above average and also a value. Try the Meatball bites and a few share plates like we did. Food was phenomenal from delicately spiced scallops, delicious cachaca and the exquisite cocha house salad to a wonderfully smoked duck and a lamb that exceeded well beyond expectation. The food was fantastic. The ossobuco was tender and juicy, and the bone comes with the marrow cooked within. Arancini is great with the horseradish sauce and the octopus was paired perfectly with the chorizo, beans and greens. Our waiter, Juan, was the best part of the night. He was very attentive, conscious of our food allergies, and had some great wine recommendations. He helped create the passion fruit mousse dessert, which turned out to be the surprise highlight of the meal. Light, fruity, but true tk the passion fruit flavor. We LOVE Cocha! We've been twice and always for special occasions. These pics are from a while ago, but I still remember how they tasted. We usually order tapas style and get 4-5 small plates. We got the Cachapas, sweet potato + beet latkes, yucca fries, scallops, and a stuffed poblano pepper with pomegranate and walnut sauce. SUCH unique flavors that went amazingly together. AND they cater to vegans (wanna be here) and gluten free patrons. Also a huge plus, they have a designated parking lot which is rare downtown. You've got to try this Baton Rouge gem! read more

Wow, what an over-price horrible to mediocre restaurant touting their "farm to table" fusion cuisine. I would have given the restaurant 3 stars when I first went there when they opened a few years ago but they have progressively gone downhill. I was there a few months back and the overpriced steak was fatty, tough, and uneditable. Deciding to give it a try last night with my friend it was even worse. The Korean short ribs literally couldn't be consumed as they were tough like leather. The waiter admitted to us that it's not the way short ribs should be cooked. The rest of the small dishes were mediocre at best. Will not visit this restaurant anymore. read more

Eh, honestly wasn't impressed. I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time now but it definitely was a disappointment. I went for a friend's birthday brunch and we were seated outside. The seating area was cute! Not sure if they always had it or it's new to COVID but I liked it. We were probably seated for 15 minutes before anyone approached us at all (no water, hello, nothing). This theme kept throughout the entire meal - extremely slow service. I eventually got a water but it remained empty about 10 mins after I got it until I left (~2hrs) despite asking for it ta few times. The food was decent, portions definitely small. I got a kale salad and it was pretty good. Everyone at my table seemed to enjoy their food - someone got a short rib, someone got a steak salad, someone had shakshouka, etc. I really don't have any complaints about the food, I'd give it a 4/5. Overall, would not recommend unfortunately. I would go back if a friend invited me to a brunch or something, but I probably wouldn't come back on my own. Food taking a while to come out is one thing, but little to no attention from the waiter isn't my favorite. read more

I had amazing experience here the first time but I had a aweful experience the second time. The differences was I went during dinner the first time and lunch the second time. They were never too busy every time I went, just the parking is extremely small so you would have to drive around or even pay for parking when you can't find spaces beside the restaurant. I believe they have different menu for lunch and dinner and their menu seasonally changes which I actually love because I like to try new things. I loved the food first time I went, they had wonderful appetizer and many vegetarian options to choose from. Everything tasted amazing then and I was quite excited to come back and try more. Second time I went it was during a lunch where I specifically picked this place to celebrate a birthday. The service was slow and food took at least 30 min to come out even though it did not seemed that busy. My soup came out first and it was small for the price but worse it was the saltiest soup I've ever had in my life; almost like they put a bag of salt in the soup; I could not finish more than few spoonfuls and my friends also tasted the same. My entree was a Sandwich and you can clearly see it was burnt. Both side of the bread was burnt I feel like they probably had different chef cooking this time. For the price of lunch they are definitely not a cheap restaurant. I could have told the waiter but we only had short hours for lunch and the food took more than half of the time to come out I basically end up going home not really satisfied. I believe a good restaurant should have consistency in how they prepare their food and honestly the last experience got me quite disappointed. I do think they are probably very good most of the time but I am hoping to go back one day and not meet with same experience. read more

Great options for delicious, healthy meals! There were vegan/vegetarian options along with other delicious plates serving meat and fish options. There were two options with Jackfruit, one of which one of our party tried. She enjoyed it! I enjoyed the beet salad, my partner loved the amberjack, and my mother enjoyed her soup, salad, and sandwich. The business lunch was large and affordable. The desserts were also great! I love the lemon tart, but the chocolate mousse was better! It had a touch of cayenne, if I remember correctly. The only downside of our experience here was that our cocktails took quite a while, but the management made things right. All said, I would recommend and return! read more

I found this restaurant on Open Table. It was a great experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is perfect, quiet, great date place. They have a variety of craft cocktails, I had one call Hot Mez (I think that was the name), I may or may not have had too many, but they were delish. I had the Cocha salad with grilled a Shrimp. Everything was perfect. My son, had the halibut, both meals were amazing. They use all fresh ingredients, not a heat and serve sysco kind of place. Prices were great. I came here with a friend while in town for work. The menu looked really good and I like the focus on local, ugh quality ingredients. We ordered the mezcal cocktail, the tostones, focaccia, and hummus. I got the cachapas and she got the rabbit stew. Oh, I also got the Panna Cotta (we hadn't eaten all day). Everything was absolutely delicious and extremely high quality. I loved that the small plates are small enough to try a couple, but also affordable that the bill doesn't become absolutely outrageous. I could have easily had an affordable dinner of one of the small bites and the cachapas. The Tostones were the best I've had (admittedly, I don't eat them super frequently). They were fresh and thin with a bit of a crisp and the touch of sea salt was perfect. The sauce served with them was amazing. Light and refreshing with a small kick. The focaccia was my least favorite of the dishes (and the only one we didn't finish), but it had nice flavor. I probably would not order it if I went back though. I also thought the Mezcal cocktail was just ok. I love mezcal, but didn't feel all the flavors of the cocktail came through. The 2 dips served with the hummus were great. Everything was fresh and the pita was thin and crispy. Different from traditional pita, but I liked it. The cachapas were my favorite. The jackfruit soaked up the flavors. The corn cakes were small and not overpowering, but went really well with everything. The dish (with the jackfruit) is not super filling on its own, but it's definitely delicious. The panna cotta was incredible. It was a Mexican Chocolate, which had perfectly balanced flavors and a subtle lingering spice. I was pretty full by the time I got it, but I HIGHLY recommend it. There was a light layer of a white liquid on top that tasted like horchata. It was definitely the best panna cotta I've had and extremely unique. Definitely not too rich or overpowering; it was extremely well balanced. Our servers, and everyone else at the restaurant were extremely friendly. We received great services and recommendations for things to check out in the area. The menu seems to be seasonal or change frequently, but with the quality of everything..I wouldn't hesitate to come back here and would highly recommend it. read more

Ahhh I'm SO happy I finally got to dine at Cocha!!! My parents came in town so I took them here (because I'm too poor to eat here regularly lol) and it was AMAZING! From the interior decor, the delicious cocktails, the lovely service, the unique menu, and the charming owner - this place was a culinary adventure! My parents loved this place too and my daddy is a bit of a food snob lol. Their portions aren't very big, so I don't think they're great for splitting, but that's fine with me. At the end of our meal, the owner sat down at the table and talked with us - he and his wife own and run the restaurant and he was such a delight to chat with! I truly wish more places were like this.. we showed up on Halloween.. in costume. We were the only ones dressed up but, "tis the season." Anyways, I am a fan of smaller tapas style appetizers. It's an appetizer, why do some establishments want to fill you up before a meal?! Cocha has perfect little options for only $5!! We ordered 1... Then 2... Then 3! The plantains with the 2 different sauces was absolutely amazing. Hummus was incredible and the focaccia was cut perfectly and so warm with a light crisp on the edges. I was so pumped for my entree, I ordered the rabbit stew. It was served pot pie style with an amazing airy, crisp top layer. By the time dessert came around I was beyond full but I did try a bite of my pals chocolate panacotta..... MAGIC That is honestly the only word I can use to describe this place.
