As for the food, it's a creative Indo-Western fusion concept that definitely caught my attention! I was especially excited to try the butter chicken ramen. While the flavors of the butter chicken were rich and well-executed, the ramen was underwhelming, because it just looks like it's Maruchan (instant noodles) making the dish feel a bit mismatched. Tap 65 is such a cool concept -- the self-pour beer wall makes it fun and interactive. The drinks themselves were perfection, and the food was just as great. The atmosphere is modern, relaxed, and a little trendy, and the service was excellent. The only downside is the pricing system. Since you're charged by the ounce, if your beer foams up or pours unevenly, you end up paying for the extra even if it's not your fault. It can add up quickly if you're not experienced at pouring draft beer. I think some kind of safeguard or system to prevent overcharges would make the experience even better. WARNING: THIS IS NO LONGER AN INDIAN RESTAURANT. Tap 65 has a new owner, and they have completely redone the menu. It's now overpriced and uninspired. The decor is the same, and my service was great, but the menu was disappointing. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, which were very tasty, and the Holy Trinity Hen. It's so named because it's served over 3 sides: black butter beans, green beans, and summer squash... but they were missing the green beans and squash, and we weren't warned until the food was served. New menu hiccups are understandable, and they discounted the order, but they literally only have 6 entrees on the new menu! The hen's breast was dry but it had a nice crispy skin... very small for the menu price, but what other meat I could find was flavorful. The beans were over-salted, and that's saying something for us, we like salty food. Lastly, several of the taps were unfilled. I'll post the new menu, but here's one of the new "gems": The Not-a-gumbo. "Wild" shrimp (note that menus in LA are supposed to state whether shrimp are imported), Harissa tomato sauce, okra, "cheese", toasted bread, avocado. I applaud them for knowing that isn't a gumbo, but it sounds like it's not food either. Bottom line, this new owner bought a unique destination restaurant and turned it into a generic blah. Nice date night. I booked reservations for 2 for 6:30 through open table. We arrived at 6:15 and were told to sit anywhere. I informed them of my reservations and asked if they could check me in so that I could reserve my points on Open Table. Otherwise, I don't think they would've worried about my reservation. There were only two parties inside. Outdoor has seating and is very nice. Our waitress was a friendly young lady. We decided on appetizers only. We started with nonalcoholic drinks. They were spritzers and pretty good. We were given a complementary bread and some type of dip that had a strong taste. I didn't really care for it. We ordered Mango wings, cauliflower, and shrimp and fries. Now everything was pretty good but a little too spicy for our palates. If you don't like spice I wouldn't recommend the food. I LOVE the design and vibe of this place!! They have a really unique style and I am here for it. I came here for brunch and tried both the "what came First" and the "Chicken and Biscuits". Both were absolutely amazing. Their fried chicken was so juicy and delicious (it did have a hint of spicy but I think even the most sensitive person to spice could handle this easily), the biscuits and gravy were perfect. I personally am not a big curry fan, but still wanted to try it and if you are a curry fan you will love the "what came first" brunch menu item! The espresso martini was not my favorite from here (and I love an espresso martini... except that one time I had to many and lost my whole wallet at the airport, but anyway) I most likely will have to try a different brunch cocktail next time I come back. They do have bottomless mimosas! The service was mostly good. When we first walked in no one greeted us and we stood there awkwardly for a good 5 minutes until someone finally came out. We weren't sure if it was self seating or a host would seat us, there were no signs suggesting to seat ourselves. When someone did come out they said we could sit anywhere (I'm assuming because it was fairly empty, just one large group in there and that was it). So still unsure if it's open seating or not but I'm thinking someone is supposed to seat you. Other than the initial walk in experience the staff was very friendly and overall did a great job! TAP 65: they have (I'm assuming) 65 taps, most of them beers ranging from lighter to craft as well as 9 of the 65 being dedicated to wine and seltzer taps. You can create your own flight of any 4 or just grab a larger glass and pour yourself your favorite tap! To drink from the Tap, you just tell them you want to , they basically leave your card open and give you a Tap card that you'll scan in order to pour and it will charge you by the amount you pour. Pretty easy to use and there's plenty to try from! This place offers both indoor and outdoor seating, although the inside is very cool, with their unique artwork on the walls. They also offer deals with private events if you're looking to do something for a special occasion! This was my second visit to Tap65 and it really is a great alternative to your traditional Louisiana cuisine. This is definitely a place you want to add on your date night list and explore your taste buds. The Indian cuisine is flavorful and complex. We ordered the charcuterie board and it was good! The chutney, carrots, samosas, cashews..everything was good on the board! We tried a few cocktails and mocktails. The Chai Fashioned was a overall tasty cocktail. The Nonalcoholic Desi Tropics was refreshing. Our entrees were the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Sandwich. The chicken tikka masala is a great dish with a lot of flavor! It was very spicy, but paired with the naan helped tame the heat! The chicken sandwich was okay, the chutney spread was overpowering. We also ordered dessert, GULAB JAMUN CHEESECAKE! There were no fans on the patio which I found odd but it was a pretty breezy night. The waitress was very friendly and the food came out pretty fast. They also gave us this complimentary chip and sauce that I didn't really care for. You receive a card upon entry if you plan to indulge, and the card links to your credit card. From there, you insert the card to the tap you want to try and pick your size pour. You're charged by the ounce. Beer not your thing? No worries... they have some delicious cocktails. I had the Dress to Empress, a gin drink with a beautiful lavender color. It was the most refreshing summer drink I could have imagined. I also tried some of my friend's chutney old fashioned, and wow, that one hit it out of the park. They also have a great wine selection, and the bartenders and servers will assist you in choosing something just right for you. Now, the food... oh that's an experience! The owners are of Indian heritage, and they have found a way to please your pallet with some delicious recipes. They certainly landed the right chef. I do not recall the name of the appetizer I had a bite of, but it exploded with flavor. (My friend described it as puffy rice balls to the server, and he knew what she meant!) The food alone is a reason to visit, and I look forward to learning more about the flavors used in Indian food as I enjoy future dinners, lunches, and weekend brunches there. But something that really makes the location stand out is the décor. From the colors to the lighted signs even to the bathroom, your eyes will be delighted. Indian food? In Baton Rouge? Absolutely, let's go! So one of my friends hit me up and wanted to try something different for dinner. An hour later, we ended up at Tap 65. Tap 65 is located on the corner of Government and Mouton with plenty of parking on the Mouton side. The restaurant has a really gorgeous interior, and has an ample amount of space. There's also outside patio seating that is very chic and trendy. I started out with the Desi Tropics, which is tequila based, while my friend got a frozen cocktail. They also have a tap wall with an assortment of beers on tap from the front of the restaurant to the back. We had the biting basket which consists of assorted papadum and fryums with green chutney and sweet and sour chutney. The flavor combinations of the chutneys were really good! I ordered the Rogan Gosh, which is goat (bone-in) with fried roti and garnished with cilantro yogurt chutney, and a side of fragrant jeera rice. My friend ordered the Butter Chicken Masala which comes with the jeera rice and buttered naan. The plating of each of these dishes was really nice. We ended the meal with the Gulab Jamun Cheesecake. The cardamom and saffron-spiced cake balls inside the cheesecake was a pleasant surprise and wasn't overwhelming at all. I'm not a big sweets eater but I'd definitely get it again. Please be cautious eating here if you have food allergies! I ordered butter chicken, when the food came l out I bit into shrimp before I realized what it was. I immediately spit it out but the damage was already done. I am severely allergic to shellfish and never thought that "butter chicken" would have shrimp in it. In my 16 years of having this allergy, this has NEVER happened to me before. So as we were trying to leave the restaurant so l can go get medical attention, as my throat and tongue were starting to swell up, the sever (don't remember his name) given my boyfriend the iPad to pay for the food! Food that was currently killing me, and food my boyfriend hadn't even had the chance to touch! The manager comes out and takes the butter "chicken" off the ticket but still tries to charge for the other meal, while I am having a medical emergency and need to leave, which was explained to him. Finally, the manager says we don't have to pay anything and apologized for what happened. Then he said the person making the food doesn't speak any English. Which is fine, but the restaurant should have better methods in place of communicating and making sure that orders come out correct, because that accident was completely avoidable but could have killed me. I spent my Friday night in the ER on monitors and was given epinephrine until the reaction subsided. Needless to say, that was my first and last time at Tap65. I stopped by while in BR for a few hours. Being an Indian food fanatic, I was so excited to try this place as they just opened and it looked really cute from photos online. I walked in around 5pm, the very beginning of the dinner rush and was met by a very unenthusiastic host who told me every single table was reserved so I could sit at the bar or outside under the covered patio. I chose the bar. My server came over and was also pretty unenthusiastic (a trend at this point), but that's okay, I came for the food! (No drink because I had to drive back to NOLA right after). The server took my order and that was literally the last time he spoke to me. The food came pretty fast but I didn't have any silver wear (as the server was making friendly chat with his coworkers and another bar patron). The other bartender noticed me and gave me silver wear (yay). Now we can enjoy what we came for, the food. Then I was hit with more disappointment. The food was so bland and not what I expected from a place that billed itself to be "Indian Street food". There was very little spice or flavor in any of the dishes I ordered. I was so disappointed. Maybe the beer is better, I wish I could have enjoyed it, but now we'll never know. I had such a bad first impression that I won't be back. Hopefully they can improve their service and food quality in the short term because the interior is so stinking pretty. I came here with my mom and brother for dinner on a Friday evening! Tap 65 is located in a complex with other stores and restaurants, so finding parking was tricky and we ended up having to park at the print shop next door. When we walked up the patio was pretty crowded, but we walked inside, and it was probably only about half full or so! The vibe was interesting and hip, with a mix of Indian elements and neon. We were seated immediately, and our server came over promptly with some water. It was a little hard to hear her because it was so loud inside, but she explained the whole concept, where you have a card and then take that card to the tap wall, where you hold the card against the sensor and dispense as much or as little beer as you want from the taps. You're charged based on the amount you pour. I got a card for the wall, and all three of us ordered chicken sandwiches. While we waited, I got to work trying all the beers. I made a little mistake at first and poured myself a big glass of one beer, which I then had to force myself to drink so I could morally justify going up to try more. They had flight glasses available too, so that's what I used after finishing my big glass to avoid making my first mistake of pouring too much again. I'm a little bit basic when it comes to my alcohol taste, so I tried mostly fruity and sweet stuff. I tried a strawberry milkshake IPA (cleverly named "Hop Tarts"), Mango Cart, Hard Sweet Tea from Abita, a pink guava gose (which I regretted immediately, not a fan of goses lol), and then something with "fruit medley" in the name and something else that was blood orange. And I think I also tried something grapefruit. I tried a lot, and they kind of blended together at times haha. Definitely was a bigger fan of some more than others. The short rib was tender and worked shockingly well in this sandwich. The mashed potatoes inside also added a nice moistening element.
