    Zydeco pasta almost fully eaten
    Mindi A.

For a hotel lobby, they're serving some really good food. We thoroughly enjoyed the bbq and Rockefeller oysters to start. Then I had the trout with asparagus and rice. It was a littler saucier than I would have wanted, but the flavor was good and the portion generous. Kiddo had the margherita pizza. It was more of a flatbread and a little soggy. Not for me, but the kid enjoyed it and portion was huge. Hubs had the zydeco pasta. He really liked it, but the chicken was a little dry. Had a nice smoky flavor, though. For dessert we shared the turtle molten chocolate cake. It was ok. Needed a scoop of ice cream and more lava. Service was friendly. Overall, it's a good bet if you're close by, but probably not a destination. *Sorry all my photos were taken mid meal. Didn't think about reviewing until we were half done eating.

I had a quiet Friday lunch. I love the decor. My server was a nice gentleman named Topher. He explained the menu and gave suggestions on mocktails that I could try. I ended up getting a watermelon mocktail that was pretty good. For lunch I started with the crab and corn soup. I didn't care for this. It was too watery, My server asked about it and I told him it was too watery! He said the chef was working on thickening it up. I also tried the Philly eggrolls and LA bbq shrimp oysters. The eggrolls were the winner! Nicely fried and tasty. The oysters came out piping hot! They were okay but the bbq flavor could've been a tad better. I will definitely return to try more items. There is plenty of seating and a huge bar. I wouldn't mind going back during the evening time. It would also be nice if they had live music.

Well my lady was very excited she chose this place out for us, not knowing it's basically in the Marriott lobby. We walked in and they had a ton of people at the entrance so we waited and looked around. There's no one there waiting to greet you or bring you to a table so seat yourself I reckon. They have a full bar and a few options of beer on tap, she got the espresso martini and said it was good. Just good she said, and we mainly came for the oysters. She for whatever goofy reason ordered the crab fingers which are okay, just not my cup of tea, but if you're into that I would suggest it for sure. The oysters...they were just sort of disappointing. They were literally so hot it was hard to scoop them out with a fork and spoon. The plate thing they came on was so hot my bread legit burnt to the plate. As you can see they are very much so overcooked, but the one big one at the bottom of the picture was good. It's just not their specialty which I'm really not sure what would be. Bummed out, we ordered more food. The knife and fork burger absolutely made up for it. She got the Mardi Gras pasta which said was also good. Didn't see any asparagus though like the menu reads. My burger though, cooked maybe not long enough (not complaining (ordered it cooked medium)) was really good. I didn't know it came with chili but also apparently pepper jack cheese, jalapeños and onion rings...there was nothing I would've changed about this. The fries were also incredible. The bun, the patty, the jalapeños, everything about the burger was amazing. There's a bit of seating as well as the bar, a few televisions around. It's not a great vibe, it's was almost empty and so quiet when we went. Our server was nice and patient. Not the kind of restaurant we were expecting, but not the worst choice possible. Overall, she was disappointed with the oysters, my burger made up for it for me, she said it was kinda expensive for what it was...just get your own experience, I'll leave it at that

This wasn't really a destination meal. I would call it a "we're all tired, but hungry, so let's just go somewhere close by. This was it. We had 12 or 13 people in our party but had no issues getting seated together. Our orders had a wide range of selections. I had a burger, others had from club sandwiches to oysters to steak. The opinions were also a wide range regarding how well the food was enjoyed. My burger wasn't bad. Nothing special stuck out. Maybe too much bun compared to burger (the photo didn't capture it properly). It was a solid "C" for me. Only a couple of people said their meal was REALLY good. For the club sandwich, there wasn't enough mayo to soften the bread. I don't know if it was stale or that's how they keep it, but I watched as she tapped it with her fork and it sounded like a drum. We also had bread pudding with the same issue. It was just a slice of bread pudding ish with ice cream on top. No one finished it that ordered it. And the fried green tomatoes (which I didn't personally try) got poor reviews from those that tried them. Also, not finished by anyone. It's always hit or miss when dining at a hotel restaurant, but for me, this was a miss. But...had I been staying at this hotel and was in a pinch, I would order the burger again. I just wouldn't come as strictly a destination meal.

I recently visited Baton Rouge, Louisiana and found myself famished after a long flight. It was a bit early for dinner so I decided to visit River Rouge Kitchen & Bar in the Baton Rouge Marriott that I was staying in. It just so happened to be happy hour they offered half-price appetizers. I decided to order the smoked chicken wings (buffalo with blue cheese on the side) and Rugaroux Shrimp. Both were delicious. I, also, enjoyed a single shit of Tito's vodka on the rocks. My coworker mentioned to me that she has dined at this restaurant for dinner before and really enjoyed her meal. The servers were all very kind and highly personable. I truly enjoyed the dining experience and would highly recommend them for other business travelers.

Our bartender was very attentive. We had fried chicken sandwiches and pork rinds and crawfish dip were a must have. Pairs well with a Long island ice tea to drink.

First time in River Rouge and YOU have to go! It's the cutest little spot with amazing food. The crawfish pepper Jack dip is to die for. IT WAS FIRE!! The service we received from Bryan was so amazing and we will definitely be back again. He made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience.

As a local, I live on 35 minutes away. My husband & I go on what we call "date days" once a month. I wanted a place to have lunch that wasn't a chain. RR was our pick. Most people would never think to have lunch at a hotel, but I'm glad we did! We started with the boudin eggrolls. These are delicious and a change from our locals boudin & boudin balls. We both chose the fried chicken sandwich that came with fries. It was both great and very filling. Our waiter was the best! He made sure our drinks were full and our food was to our liking! He took the time to listen to our reasoning for coming and made us feel very welcome. We had conversations with him, and that made us even feel more welcome! For locals who want a different dining experience, head over to this hidden gem!!

    Wedge salad.

A hotel bar and restaurant with an interesting menu. I had the wedge salad, which had a local flair by adding muffaleta ingredients. Friendly servers.

Both good choices. Overall, the wine pairing was okay. I like the appetizer pairing of a nice light, white bubbly prosecco. The second was a classic red wine to pair with a steak. The last wine is where I was not impressed. It was a dessert wine that had a smell similar to a distilled whiskey. I took a sip and decided I rather another glass of prosecco. Shout out to the server who was accommodating and swapped out that glass for what I requested. He didn't have to, but he did! The food was mouth watering delicious. We started off with the sauteed shrimp and the piquillo peppers. THANK GOD the piquillo peppers are a Solera regular. I will be getting them again. The shrimp were just okay, nothing out of this world. Second course was the filet with polenta. It was absolutely delicious and packed with flavors that complimented each other well. Final course we had the rum bread pudding and the manchego cheesecake. The manchego cheese is definitely a rich and an acquiring flavor. Without the blueberry sauce, you would think its just a slab of cheese. The rum bread pudding was spectacular. I have never loved a rum sauce with my bread pudding, but the Solera one kept me wanting more. Overall and enjoyable experience, with a couple minor foods that lack the razzle dazzle of a 5 star review.

We were in Baton Rouge helping our grandson move into his dorm as an incoming freshman at LSU, and Parrain's kept coming up in our searches and reviews. We decided to give it a try, and I'm SO glad we did! We visited on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., and when I tell you EVERYBODY and their family was there... I mean everybody! The parking lot was packed. There is plenty of parking, but there were so many people that we still had to hunt for a spot. Thankfully, we found one under a shade tree because it was HOT! When we walked up, we fully expected a long wait. There is plenty of outdoor seating for people waiting, and I also noticed they have both steps and an accessibility ramp leading to the entrance. My daughter and I sat down while my husband stood in line to put our name on the list. About five minutes later, he was waving for us to come inside! Apparently, many of the people waiting were large groups and families coming from church, but since there were only three of us, they were able to seat us almost immediately. HUGE plus! Once inside, it was BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. It took our server a little while to initially get to us, but considering how packed the restaurant was, it really wasn't bad at all. Our waitress was very nice, and I was actually impressed with how quickly our food came out. Now let's talk about the FOOD!! We first ordered the onion rings for an appetizer... super delicious I ordered the fried shrimp platter, and those shrimp were fried to PERFECTION! Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The meal also came with salad, fries, hush puppies, and a side. The hush puppies were SO GOOD! They are shaped almost like little donut holes... crispy on the outside and soft and savory on the inside. Delicious! For my side, I chose the fresh green beans instead of the dirty rice. Unfortunately, those were the one thing I didn't enjoy. They didn't have much flavor to me and seemed a little undercooked. Next time, I'll definitely choose another side. My husband ordered the fried catfish platter with dirty rice, coleslaw, and fries, and he loved everything. I tasted his coleslaw, and OH MY GOODNESS! Get the coleslaw! It was different from any coleslaw I've had before. It has whole peanuts in it, which sounds unusual, but somehow it WORKS! The peanuts add this wonderful crunch and flavor. It was SO good. And the French fries!! I've never seen fries cut this way before. They're almost shaped like little Scoop Fritos, with a crispy outside and soft potato inside. So unique and really good! My daughter ordered the catfish strips and fries from the kids' menu. These weren't processed little nuggets... they were actual pieces of catfish cut into strips, and she really enjoyed them. She also ordered the crab fingers, and those were another 10/10! They were incredibly well-seasoned with a little spice and tons of flavor. I tasted one and wanted MORE! I'm watching my sodium intake, so I behaved myself, but they were absolutely delicious. Overall, Parrain's was a 10/10 for us. The only thing I wouldn't personally order again would be the green beans. Everything else, from the shrimp and catfish to those amazing hush puppies, unique fries, crab fingers, and especially that coleslaw, was DELICIOUS. Yes, it was crowded and lively, but we still received really good service and didn't have to wait nearly as long as we expected. With our grandson now attending LSU, we'll be making plenty of trips back to Baton Rouge, and Parrain's has officially made our list of places we will be visiting again!

She came across as short, unfriendly, and overall not very pleasant. I first ordered a Banana Foster's Martini, but she came back and said they didn't have the ingredients. No problem--I asked for an Espresso Martini instead. A few minutes later, after bringing everyone else's drinks, she returned and simply said they couldn't make that either and asked if I wanted something else. At that point, I just declined. When it was time to order, our table had nine people. She took my husband's order, then went around the table taking everyone else's order. By the time she got back to me, she said, "Okay, is that it?" I had to remind her that she hadn't taken my order yet. I ordered the crab and corn bisque, a salad, and the stuffed catfish with creamed spinach. The salad came out quickly and was very good. Then everyone else at the table received their meals while I only received my bisque. After waiting, I was told my stuffed catfish "didn't come out right" and had to be remade. At that point, I honestly wondered if it was a joke. It wasn't. By the time my entrée arrived, everyone else was nearly finished eating. To the restaurant's credit, they did remove the stuffed catfish from my bill, and I appreciated that. However, the entire experience left me feeling overlooked from start to finish. My biggest suggestion would be for our waitress to work on her customer service. A smile goes a long way. Saying things like "Give me that plate," slamming cups onto the table, and appearing annoyed throughout the meal doesn't create a welcoming dining experience. Hospitality is just as important as the food, and I hope this feedback is taken constructively.
